The Texans' linebacker was flagged and later fined $11,255 for a late hit out of bounds on Titans running back Tony Pollard last week. Stroud led the NFL in yards and TD-to-interception ratio during his rookie season, which is an efficiency statistic considering he didn't get his first interception until his sixth regular-season game against the New Orleans Saints. While Stroud was a part of the league MVP conversation for most of the season, he didn't ultimately win the title. The Rogers County Commissioners kicked several agenda items down the road during their regular Monday meeting. One such agenda item was a proposal to create a county employee benefit program to recognize outstanding county employees. Commissioners Dan DeLozier and Ron Burrows decided to wait until the Jan. 6 meeting to take action because District 2 Commissioner Steve Hendrix was absent. Todd Wagner, the county's attorney, said state law empowers county commissioners to establish such a program, for which he'd written a draft resolution. "The best approach would be to have the Board of County Commissioners recognize this authority and then pass a resolution enacting that," Wagner said. "The statute provides that each department and division office may spend monies from their operating funds for recognition awards, and that those awards may be given at a formal luncheon and banquet ceremony." Wagner said his resolutions allows each county department to determine their own standards for recognizing its employees. Burrows said he liked the idea, but he wanted to set limits on how much each department could spend on awards since they'd be funded with taxpayer money. Wagner said statute doesn't contemplate limits, so the commissioners could likely set them if they wanted. "I don't want to see another line item show up on our budgeting process," Burrows said. "...I think there just really needs to be some very specific parameters around how much money can be spent." The commissioners also passed on accepting a $50,000 quote to repair or remove a failed microwave link between Chelsea and Rogers State University. Dicus Benton, Catoosa's fire chief, said the commissioners should make a decision next week because Jon Sappington, undersheriff for the Rogers County Sheriff's Office, wasn't at the meeting. They also decided to reject the only bid the county received for a shipping container for the firing range the sheriff's office is building. The sheriff's office sent out five bids but got one back: a $7,300 quote from Technology International, based in Lake Mary, Florida. DeLozier said the bid was excessively expensive, and Burrows said he would rather source a shipping container from a local vendor. "Are we bound to have this shipped from Florida to here?" Burrows said. "Appreciate their bid, really don't want to discount that, but I know Catoosa has two [vendors] that just come to mind." Most of the items the commissioners approved Monday were purchases or contract agreements. The commissioners approved a $225,000 contract with Shuterra, a vegetation management company based in Kingfisher. Burrows said he's had problems with tall Johnson grass, a weed that grows along many county roads, and hiring Shuterra would make it cheaper for the county to manage it. He said it may take a few years to notice improvement. DeLozier said hiring Shuterra would "darn sure" save the county a lot of money because his crews are mowing along county roads five times a year. They also agreed to make their annual $100,000 contribution to the Rodeo Arena Interlocal Cooperative, a trust that manages the Will Rogers Stampede Arena. Burrows commended DeLozier for his work with the cooperative and the improvements the trust has made to the arena. The commissioners decided to spend what remains of the county's American Rescue Plan Act funds to cover operational expenses the county has incurred managing the funds. Wagner said Dec. 31 is the deadline to obligate ARPA funds, and putting them toward covering expenses makes sure each penny will be used. "We've spent this money very well and made sure that we used it in a lot of different areas," DeLozier said. "I think we were one of [the governmental entities] that I believe have done right."The Arizona Cardinals are 6-6 through 12 games, which makes them an average football team. (The Center Square) – After an Iranian national was arrested on Monday in a Boston suburb for his alleged ties to a terrorist attack that killed three U.S. service members, the town's leaders unanimously voted to pass a sanctuary city ordinance. On Monday, Iranian-born Mahdi Mohammad Sadeghi, a resident of Natick, Mass., was charged in federal court in Boston "with conspiring to export sophisticated electronic components from the United States to Iran in violation of U.S. export control and sanctions laws," The Center Square reported. Sadeghi and others allegedly conspired to evade U.S. export control and sanctions laws by procuring goods, services, and technology from American companies and exporting them to an Iranian-based company that contracts with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a US-designated foreign terrorist organization. The company allegedly manufactured the drones used by the IRGC that killed U.S. soldiers stationed in Jordan in January. Sadeghi faces up to 20 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy that goes back nearly 10 years , according to the complaint . His arrest occurred after an unprecedented number of Iranian and special interest aliens were apprehended after illegally entering the U.S., The Center Square reported . The experts also blamed the surge on unhealthy diets, particularly processed foods. According to the World Health Organisation, kidney diseases are now the 10th leading cause of death globally, stating that mortality has increased from 813,000 in 2000 to 1.3 million in 2019. The Nigeria Association of Nephrology says about 20 million Nigerians are presently living with chronic kidney diseases. Speaking with PUNCH HealthWise in an exclusive interview on the worrisome rise, a Consultant Nephrologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Dr. Theophilus Umeizudike, identified an increase in Type 2 diabetes which he blamed on the consumption of processed and unhealthy foods as a major cause of kidneys diseases globally. Umeizudike also blamed the rise in kidney diseases on hypertension and glomerulonephritis. The nephrologist explained, “Globally, the cause mainly is because of the increase in Type 2 diabetes which is also rising in our environment. “The reason why Type 2 diabetes is rising globally is because of people abandoning natural foods for processed foods. “So, processed foods are the reasons why people are coming down with Type 2 diabetes and people with Type 2 diabetes come down with kidney diseases later in life. Hypertension is also increasing cases of kidney diseases.” The kidney specialist noted that kidney diseases were on the rise in Nigeria. “In our clime, we have a very young population that are prone to many infections and inflammatory conditions that can affect the kidneys. “Oftentimes, the early signs of infection or inflammation of the kidney are silent. So, years down the line, these things begin to manifest. “In sub-Saharan Africa, we have glomerulonephritis that affects the kidney. It causes kidney damage over months or years usually within a period of five to 10 years. There are viral infections like hepatitis B, C, and HIV that cause kidney diseases”, he said. The nephrologist also attributed the surge in kidney diseases to a lack of access to affordable healthcare. Umeizudike said, “Another cause is that many of these young people do not have access to affordable healthcare. So, they resort to alternative therapies like herbal remedies which can damage their kidneys. “Again, we have a predisposition to coming down with kidney diseases as people of African origin because of gene mutation.” On how people can avoid coming down with kidney diseases, the nephrologist enjoined them to embrace a healthy lifestyle and to go for regular health checks for early detection and proper management. Umeizudike explained that when people keep living on processed foods, the tendency to come down with kidney diseases is high. “Eating processed foods pushes people to Type 2 diabetes and increases the risk of kidney diseases later on in life”, he reiterated. According to him, for someone to know whether he has a kidney issue, the person must go and do a test, adding that without a medical test, kidney diseases cannot be detected.
