The Conservatives have called on Sir Keir Starmer to reject an international arrest warrant issued for Benjamin Netanyahu as they accused the Government of holding a “nonsensical” position on the issue. In a letter to the Prime Minister, shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel and shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick claimed the decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) had “no proper basis in international law”. They said the UK’s refusal to explicitly say whether or not the Israeli premier would be detained if he arrived in the country “opens the farcical spectre of your Government trying to sanction the arrest” of an ally to Britain. Criticising the ICC warrant, the shadow ministers said: “It is hard to escape the conclusion this is an activist decision, motivated by politics and not the law.” They argued the court was established to pursue cases in instances where countries do not have robust and independent judiciaries, which could not be said of Israel. “The UK Government’s response to the decision has been nonsensical,” they said. “On Friday, the Home Secretary refused to say whether Mr Netanyahu would be detained if he travelled to the UK. “This opens the farcical spectre of your Government trying to sanction the arrest on UK soil of the leader of an ally of the UK, while you continue a diplomatic charm offensive with the Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping. “It falls to you to clarify the Government’s position – now. The Government must make clear that it does not support an arrest warrant being issued which has no proper basis in international law.” Downing Street on Friday indicated that Mr Netanyahu could face arrest if he entered the UK, refusing to comment on “hypotheticals” but saying Britain would always follow its “legal obligations”. The International Criminal Court Act 2001 states that a Secretary of State must, on receipt of a request for arrest from the ICC, “transmit the request and the documents accompanying it to an appropriate judicial officer”. Asked whether the UK would comply with requirements under the Act, Sir Keir’s spokesman said: “Yes, the Government would fulfil its obligations under the Act and indeed its legal obligations.” The ICC has issued a warrant for Mr Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Number 10 previously said the domestic process linked to ICC arrest warrants has never been used to date by the UK because no-one wanted by the international court had visited the country. It added that Israel remained a “key partner across a range of areas”. The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “It is important that we have a dialogue with Israel at all levels to reach the ceasefire that we all want to see, to bring an end to the violence, to protect civilians and ensure the release of hostages.” The ICC also issued a warrant for Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas’s armed wing, over the October 7 2023 attacks that triggered Israel’s offensive in Gaza. A domestic court process would be required before Mr Netanyahu faced arrest if he set foot in the UK. The ICC said there are “reasonable grounds to believe” Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant were responsible for “the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare, and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution and other inhumane acts”. The court’s pre-trial chamber also found “reasonable grounds to believe that Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant each bear criminal responsibility as civilian superiors for the war crime of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population”. The impact of the warrants is likely to be limited since Israel and its major ally, the US, are not members of the ICC.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Jagaba’s block-moulding industry along the Eastern Bye-Pass in Minna, the state capital. Abdulhakeem is accused of stabbing the retired official in the head and fleeing with his Toyota Camry. An eyewitness, Nuhu Abubakar, told reporters that the attack was sudden and unprovoked. “The incident happened on Saturday. The panel beater came to the Jagaba industry to fix the car. There was no argument. “The next thing we saw was that the panel beater entered the car and drove away while the perm sec was lying in a pool of his blood and writhing in pain,” Abubakar stated. Jagaba, who previously served in the Niger State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the stolen vehicle. Abiodun revealed that Abdulhakeem had conspired with some of Jagaba’s workers to carry out the crime. “On December 7, 2024, at about 3 pm, a report of an incident of culpable homicide was made at Tudun-Wada Division, that at about 11:30 am, a yet-to-be-identified person(s) trespassed into a block industry located along Eastern Bye-pass, Minna, attacked and stabbed one Adamu Jagaba on the head and made away with his vehicle. “The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost and was confirmed dead,” he stated, adding that police operatives visited the scene. During interrogation, Abdulhakeem reportedly confessed to the killing and implicated others in the crime. He revealed that some of Jagaba’s workers provided information to facilitate the attack. “Fortunately, on the local circulation of the vehicle’s details to all police points and formation within the state, on the same date at about 7 pm, the Police Crack Squad of the Command intercepted the vehicle along Bosso Estate Road, Minna, with the suspect named Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, aged 18 years of Tayi Village via Bosso Minna. “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the victim’s car painter and visited him at his block industry located at Eastern Bye-pass, via Maitumbi, opposite PDP Secretariat Minna. “He said after discussing changing the vehicle bumper, he deliberately stabbed the deceased severally on the head and neck, and also hit him multiple times with a stapler in the office and made away with his Toyota Camry vehicle with registration number MNA 61 AE. “He confessed further that he conspired with some of the deceased’s workers, who gave him the target and more information in carrying out the crime. “He said he has other gang members he does such heinous acts with, as he mentioned their names for investigation,” Abiodun added. The command’s spokesperson revealed that an effort is ongoing to apprehend the members and the suspect will be charged in court for prosecution immediately after the investigation. MIAMI — Lionel Messi, fresh off accepting his MLS MVP trophy, kicked off the holiday season by traveling 6,870 miles to Azerbaijan this week and brought along teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba for a private charity event in the capital city of Baku. Azerbaijan is a landlocked country in Southwestern Asia, bordering the Caspian Sea, Iran, Russia, Georgia, and Turkey. Messi and his friends attended a gathering on Wednesday at the Crystal Hall, a famous music and sports venue. The event included a concert featuring French singer Willy William and Romanian group Morandi. The Argentine legend received a personalized rug with an image of himself lifting the World Cup trophy. “I have discovered the culture and the people of Azerbaijan,” Messi said. “Thank you for the warm greeting. Thank you very much for the support.” Messi, Suárez, Busquets and Alba also paid a visit and laid flowers at the tomb of former Azerbaijani leader Heydar Aliyev, on the eve of the 21st anniversary of his death Dec. 12, 2003. That part of the visit drew some criticism on social media from opponents of Aliyev’s regime. Inter Miami vs. Club America in Las Vegas? Speaking of travel, Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas said last week that the club is not planning another four-country, seven-game globetrotting preseason tour, as it did last year. The team played in El Salvador, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Japan in early 2024 and wound up dealing with injuries to a few players and a controversy when Messi sustained an injury and was unable to play in Hong Kong. Mas said the team does plan a trip abroad in early 2025, but it will be a more compact itinerary, and that a high-profile game was being planned in the United States. Deporte Total USA reported that Inter Miami will play Mexican power Club America in Las Vegas and that the game is tentatively set for Jan. 18. An MLS source confirmed that Inter Miami and Club America are in talks about a game, but details had not been finalized. Also, the club announced it will play a friendly match against Orlando City in Tampa on Feb. 14. CJ Dos Santos traded to San Diego FC Inter Miami traded backup goalkeeper CJ dos Santos to expansion club San Diego FC in exchange for $100,000 in 2025 general allocation money (GAM). Dos Santos, 24, signed for Inter Miami ahead of the 2022 MLS season. He made three appearances for the first team — two in MLS and one in the Leagues Cup, in which he kept a clean sheet against Mexican side Club Puebla in 2024 — and 28 matches for Inter Miami II in MLS NEXT Pro. New ‘Fortitude’ jersey unveiled Inter Miami on Thursday released its new “Fortitude” away jersey for the 2025 season. It has black and granite-gray blocks with the trademark pink trim. The club explained in a press release that the name came from the Latin word “Fortis,” which means strength, and the Spanish word “Fortaleza,” which stands for resilience and determination. This shirt also serves as a tribute to Fort Lauderdale, “a city that has become a fortress for Inter Miami CF and the stage for some of the Club’s most significant milestones”. This coming season will be the team’s final season in Fort Lauderdale before moving to Miami Freedom Park in 2026. The new kits are on sale at the team store at Chase Stadium beginning Thursday (Dec. 12), while supplies last. It is also available online at MLSstore.com and adidas.com . Royal Caribbean, the club’s official jersey partner, will soon have the jersey available for purchase on its ships. ©2024 Miami Herald. Visit miamiherald.com . During the ceremony, Sio Chong Meng presented books to representatives of the University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, City University of Macau, Macau University of Tourism, University of Saint Joseph of Macau and Macao Public Library. In his address, Sio Chong Meng explained that Lek Hang Group’s commitment to revitalizing Hotel Central extends beyond its prime location; it is also a tribute to the hotel’s historical significance. He stressed the value of history, noting that Hotel Central not only records its own story but also mirrors the transformations along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro for over a century since its establishment in 1918. Acknowledging the challenges and risks of the revitalization project, the Group decided to document the entire renovation process, along with the century-long history of Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro and Hotel Central, resulting in the documentary “The Story of Centenary Hotel Central.” This initiative aims to preserve and share the historical narratives of the district with the public. Sio Chong Meng revealed that the book project originated during the initial planning phase of the revitalization, with the intention of creating a “Historical Cultural Corridor” on the hotel’s ground floor. However, significant gaps in historical materials led the Group to invited Professor leng Weng Fat, a historian from Macau, to conduct research and gather evidence. Through Professor leng’s in-depth exploration, a wealth of previously unknown historical materials and stories related to Hotel Central was uncovered. To meticulously present the development history of Macau’s historical district, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro and Hotel Central, he and the book’s author decided to document this history. The book “The Story of Centenary Hotel Central” spans nearly 300,000 words and features approximately 400 illustrations. It provides insights into the development of Macau’s tourism and gaming industries through the lens of Hotel Central, narrating the early 20th-century efforts to build a tourism and entertainment city. The book also explores Macau’s journey through challenges, starting from a century ago, to guide readers through social changes and the lives of its people over the past hundred years. Accompanying the book’s launch, the documentary “The Story of Centenary Hotel Central” vividly recounts the hotel’s historical value and revitalization process through rich archival footage and beautiful reenactments, featuring key officials and respected figures from the Macau SAR government. It highlights the dedication of those working to preserve Macau’s historical district. The book “The Story of Centenary Hotel Central” is now available at various bookstores in Macau, including Livraria Uma, Seng Kwong Bookstore, Pin-to Livros, Wan Tat Bookstore and Plaza Cultural Macau. Additionally, the documentary is also available for free viewing in Hotel Central’s guest rooms, with future screenings planned in mainland China and Hong Kong-Macau. Hashtag: #Macao #Hotel #HotelCentral #LekHangGroup #Travel #Heritage The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. Established in 1991, Lek Hang Group has become a pillar of Macau’s business landscape, adhering to a philosophy of “Diligence and Focus, Grounded in action” and growing alongside the region. Over three decades, the group has diversified into real estate, construction, hotel management, dining, mall operations, and advertising planning, all while actively engaging in corporate social responsibilities. These efforts include revitalizing old districts and contributing to the community, reflecting the group’s commitment to long-term strategic planning and the stable development of its businesses.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple has known about this content for years, but has refused to act to detect or remove it, despite developing advanced technology to do so. The plaintiffs are being represented by Marsh Law Firm. Additionally, Heat Initiative is providing some support for this lawsuit as part of the organization's broader Ignite program , which provides legal and advocacy support for victims of child sexual abuse through referrals, research, and funding to empower them to use their voices and hold technology companies accountable. The images and videos of the plaintiffs' childhood sexual abuse, which have been stored thousands of times, would have been identified and removed had Apple implemented its 2021 "CSAM Detection" technology. However, Apple terminated the program after its announcement. Other leading technology providers have been proactively detecting and reporting illegal child sex abuse images and videos for more than a decade. Apple's belated efforts, and subsequent cancellation, leave it among the very few major platforms that do not engage in proactive detection and removal. The full complaint, as well as a fact sheet and other supporting materials, can be found HERE . "The knowledge that images of my abuse are still out there is a never-ending nightmare – Apple could have stopped this, but has chosen not to act," said Jane Doe , a plaintiff in the lawsuit. "Apple has the technology to stop this from continuing, yet they knowingly turn a blind eye. This isn't just about my story – it's about standing up for every survivor who deserves safety and dignity. Apple has a responsibility to protect us, and I'm here to demand that they fulfill it." "Today, thousands of brave survivors are coming forward to demand accountability from one of the most successful technology companies on the planet. Apple has not only rejected helping these victims, it has advertised the fact that it does not detect child sex abuse material on its platform or devices thereby exponentially increasing the ongoing harm caused to these victims," said Margaret E. Mabie , Partner at Marsh Law Firm, representing the plaintiffs. "Our clients have endured unimaginable abuse, and yet Apple's top executives continue to ignore their pleas, fully aware that this illegal contraband remains on their platform. By abandoning their state-of-the-art detection program without offering an alternative, Apple has chosen to prioritize its own corporate agenda over the lives and dignity of survivors. This lawsuit is a call for justice and a demand for Apple to finally take responsibility and protect these victims." "Apple wants people to think they are the 'responsible' tech company, and this lawsuit demonstrates clearly that, on this issue, they are not," said Sarah Gardner , Founder and CEO of the Heat Initiative, an organization dedicated to encouraging leading technology companies to combat child sex abuse on their platforms. "The plaintiffs and countless other survivors of child sexual abuse are forced to relive the worst moments imaginable because Apple refuses to implement common sense practices that are standard across the tech industry. They will argue that this is a privacy issue, but they are failing to acknowledge the privacy and basic humanity of the children being raped and sexually assaulted in the videos and images Apple stores on iCloud." In August 2021 , Apple announced it would implement a new "CSAM Detection" feature, which would have identified known child sexual abuse material in iCloud using NeuralHash, a type of hashing technology that Apple developed. However, after the program was announced, Apple executives reversed their decision and ultimately killed the implementation of the program . At the same time, in 2023, five major tech companies collectively reported more than 32 million pieces of child sexual abuse images and videos on their platforms– Apple reported only 267 . The lawsuit is seeking injunctive relief for Apple to implement basic child safety measures on behalf of the plaintiffs. Exports, which performed better than expected recently, could be affected by US trade policies under Trump 2.0 and if China allows the yuan to weaken in 2025 to brace for higher US tariffs, said Soraphol Tulayasathien, senior executive vice-president of the SET. "Analysts have raised concerns over potential trade policy uncertainties ahead, warning that if Trump follows through on his campaign pledge of severe trade tariffs against China, it could undermine the US economy and compel investors to shift their portfolios towards safe-haven assets," said Mr Soraphol. If the disinflation progress is hampered by escalating trade tensions, the Federal Reserve may have to delay its interest rate reductions to curb the risk of a resurgence of inflation. "A more restrictive monetary policy stance could heighten volatility across global financial and capital markets over the next 1-2 years," he said. According to Mr Soraphol, the Thai economy in 2017 during Trump's first tenure was stronger than today, as evidenced by GDP growth and the current account surplus. Thai GDP expanded 3% in the third quarter of 2024, driving the nine-month figure to surpass analysts' expectations at 2.3%. The National Economic and Social Development Council upgraded its full-year growth projection to 2.6% based on the tourism recovery, export growth and public investment expansion. Earnings of listed companies improved continuously during the past three quarters, even though declining oil prices and narrower refining margins weighed down net profits of the oil and petrochemical sectors. "We have started to see increasing offshore investments from US tech companies, including Google, Amazon and Nvidia, in this part of the world, recently followed by similar moves from Chinese firms," he said. According to the SET's CEO survey, 75% are planning to increase their investments over the next 12 months, and they see Southeast Asia as a major growth opportunity, said Mr Soraphol. At the end of November, the SET index finished at 1,427.54 points, down 2.6% from the previous month, moving in line with regional peers. The Thai bourse rose 0.8% from the end of 2023, with technology the only industry group that outperformed the benchmark index. The average daily trading value of the SET and the Market for Alternative Investment decreased 3.4% year-on-year to 44.3 billion baht (roughly US$1.29 billion) last month. For the first 11 months, the figure averaged 47.1 billion baht, a decrease of 13.5% on an annualised basis. However, local institutional investors' trading value has risen for two consecutive months, accounting for more than 10% of total trading value. The bourse's forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio at the end of last month was 16.3 times, above the average of Asian stock markets at 12.6 times. The SET's historical P/E ratio was 19.3 times, exceeding the Asian stock markets' average of 14.3 times. The SET's dividend yield ratio was 3.34%, higher than the Asian stock markets' average of 3.1%.
