November 21 - The Washington Capitals will be without their captain and goal-scoring machine Alex Ovechkin for four to six weeks after he was diagnosed Thursday with a fractured left fibula. Ovechkin, 39, exited Monday's 6-2 win over the Utah Hockey Club with 14:30 remaining following a collision with Utah forward Jack McBain. A teammate had to help him off the ice. The Capitals announced Tuesday that Ovechkin was considered week-to-week as he underwent further evaluation on his leg. On Wednesday, the team placed him on injured reserve and recalled forward prospect Ivan Miroshnichenko from AHL affiliate Hershey. The injury interrupted Ovechkin while he was on a hot streak. On Saturday, the Bison had “The Drive,” taking almost an entire quarter for an apparent game-winning score and a Missouri Valley Football Conference championship all to themselves. ADVERTISEMENT Then came “The Meltdown.” What transpired in the final four minutes at the Fargodome was a hard lesson for the Bison, a 29-28 loss that seemed almost over, but it wasn’t. “No. 1, there should be no one crying in there,” said head coach Tim Polasek, pointing at the locker room. “This isn’t time to cry. Polasek, when asked if he would have done anything different in the last two minutes, said he would have taken a time out before the last touchdown pass. “The book tells you not to, but just to regroup our defense and make sure our pass rush was ready to go,” he said. Ultimately, it was a collection of big plays that did in the Bison. Trailing 28-17 and facing fourth-and-10, USD quarterback Aidan Bouman hit Phelps for 37 yards to the NDSU 40-yard line. Sales of electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles have been boosted by a Labor Government EV discount that makes efficient cars cheaper to lease than petrol or diesel equivalents. The discount has turbocharged sales of plug-in hybrid cars that blur the lines between “self-charging” hybrid cars such as the Toyota Corolla and dedicated battery electric vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3. Electric car sales have dropped this year. Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV is one of Australia’s most popular plug-in hybrids. But sales of PHEVs have more than doubled as Aussies warm to cars that can be plugged in and driven as an electric car on short trips, or run on petrol for longer journeys. The EV discount allows people to lease cars without paying fringe benefits tax. It puts PHEVs on par with cheaper cars. Mazda’s plain old petrol-powered CX-5 costs about $40,000 to buy, or $235 per week to lease through popular firm Maxxia. For the same weekly fee, customers can pick up a more efficient Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV worth $57,000, or a flash Cupra Formentor VZe plug-in hybrid that ordinarily costs $64,990 to buy.
