It is an ongoing problem, has been for years now. Consumers are paying too much for goods and services, and the residual effect of that infects the entire economy. High prices persist because of failed economic policies. Let us use the Consumer Price Index as a gauge of prices. It is published monthly by the Bureau of Labor Statistics , and it quantifies annual price increases. An increase of 2.7 percent for all items is the CPI recording in November of 2024 from November of 2023. But that is not when this story begins. The CPI recording in February of 2021, the first full month of President Joe Biden's tenure, from February of 2020 is 1.7 percent. Since that recording, March of 2021 through November of 2024, there is not one annual CPI recording for all items below 2.4 percent. But that still does not tell the full story. For seven months, April of 2022 through September of 2022, the CPI is recorded at upwards of 8 percent, even hitting 9 percent in June of 2022. For 12 months, a calendar year, from December of 2021 through November of 2022, the CPI is recorded at greater than 7 percent. For 17 months, from October of 2021 through February of 2023, the CPI is recorded at more than 6 percent. For 21 months, from June of 2021 through February of 2023, the CPI is recorded at over 5 percent. For 26 months, from April of 2021 through May of 2023, the CPI is recorded at upwards of 4 percent. In seven months of President Biden's time in office are CPI recordings less than 3 percent, and as mentioned, the only recording less than 2 percent is February of 2021. The Federal Reserve has repeatedly stated that its goal for inflation is 2 percent. Prices are rising too high, too fast. Inflation is too high, has been for years now. The high inflation occurring under Biden is horrible, as are its consequences. A slight cost of living increase periodically is an economic norm, but prolonged high inflation is not. High inflation taxes the entire economy, and the overall economic impact of this period of high inflation would be difficult to quantify. Democrats push spending, spending, and more spending. If high inflation is too much money chasing too few goods and services, it stands to reason that spending cuts are a method of inflation reduction. An example of where Democrats are is the counterintuitively entitled "Inflation Reduction Act" . Democrats push tax increases. High taxes affect everyone and everything in an economy. An employee is personally paid less of his earned income due to a higher tax rate, and the employment options are more limited because an increasing amount of corporate revenue is being paid in taxes rather than employee compensation. Higher taxes force those struggling to make ends meet into increasingly basic and survival-based economic decisions. Consumer budgets are tighter due to higher tax rates, so there are less dollars being spent into the economy. As a result of that trickle-down effect of high taxes, there are fewer buying options available to consumers because some entities are taxed out of business and because investors who would otherwise put capital behind innovative, entrepreneurial endeavors and start-ups are paying more of that capital in taxes. High taxes impact the quality of goods produced and services offered because there is less money available in corporate budgets to be spent toward that end. The regulatory environment must be considered as another contributing factor to high inflation. If a business is forced to allocate more of its economic capital, more of its employee manpower and brainpower, more of its time and legal exposure, and more of its overall resources to comply with federal regulations, some of which are highly questionable, that business is left with less employee manpower and brainpower for its own business functions; it is left with less time for its own work; it must find and pay for necessary legal counsel; and it is left with fewer overall resources. The inevitable results are fewer employment opportunities, fewer goods produced and services offered, and fewer spending and investment dollars flowing throughout the economy. A go-to political concept of Democrats is the idea of redistribution. Beyond safety nets for those who need them, Democrats talk about soaking the wealthiest and redistributing the product of that to those who are not considered to be wealthy. It may be easy to conceptualize and psychologically soothing for some to think of government in a command-and-control manner redistributing and spreading around the wealth in a nation, but that is not a serious and long-term solution because it bears no long-term investment quality. A government "stimulus" is little more than a momentary economic sugar pop to the nation. Whereas marketplace earnings are meritoriously acquitted, spending is doled out at the government's pleasure to whom the government pleases to dole it. A nation cannot be economically sustained or economically healed by government spending. Economic recovery and economic prosperity come through markets and private industry. A major problem is that Democrats seem to approach all societal issues through the lens of government. It is conspicuous how few working solutions Democrats attempt to apply to the continuing problem of high inflation. All Americans would have been better served had Democrats used their political capital to cut wasteful federal government spending, to reduce taxes across the board, and to eliminate onerous regulations without seeking increasingly creative ways to further regulate. Commerce in the United States comes down to employees who work sincerely for their employers and the customers they serve, business owners who are careful custodians of the people they employ and those they serve, innovators who use modern technological advancements to meet timeless challenges, entrepreneurs who recognize and fill pockets of demand, inventors who add to possibilities through new products and services, and many more of the same strain of ethic. NASA has announced that it is delaying its ambitious Artemis II and Artemis III missions, which will see astronauts travel around and then land on the moon for the first time in over 50 years. The missions will be pushed to April 2026 and mid-2027 respectively, which is around six months later than previously planned. The delay is due to problems with the Orion spacecraft’s heat shield. Orion is the capsule in which crew members for each mission will travel, and it must withstand temperatures of nearly 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit during re-entry through the Earth’s atmosphere. On the previous Artemis I mission in 2022, the Orion capsule was used in an uncrewed test and fared generally well, completing the mission as planned. However, on landing it was revealed that the heat shield around the capsule, which will protect astronauts inside from extreme temperatures, had degraded more than anticipated. The heat shield is designed to be ablative, meaning it will be worn down somewhat during re-entry, but the charring of the material was worse than expected and a report released earlier this year found that there were “ critical issues ” with the shielding that needed to be fixed before it could be safe for astronauts to travel in. “Throughout our process to investigate the heat shield phenomenon and determine a forward path, we’ve stayed true to NASA’s core values; safety and data-driven analysis remained at the forefront,” said Catherine Koerner, associate administrator of NASA’s Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate in a statement . “The updates to our mission plans are a positive step toward ensuring we can safely accomplish our objectives at the Moon and develop the technologies and capabilities needed for crewed Mars missions.” NASA also shared that it had identified the issue with the heat shield material, which was that gases were building up in a layer of material called Avcoat and could not escape, causing the material to crack. It emphasized that if there had been crew inside Orion during Artemis I, they would still have been safe and would not have been exposed to dangerous temperatures, so the 10-day Artemis II mission will go ahead using the current heat shield system, but the trajectory of re-entry will be adjusted to minimize these issues. New heat shields will be manufactured for Artemis III to allow gases to permeate the material. “The Artemis campaign is the most daring, technically challenging, collaborative, international endeavor humanity has ever set out to do,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “We have made significant progress on the Artemis campaign over the past four years, and I’m proud of the work our teams have done to prepare us for this next step forward in exploration as we look to learn more about Orion’s life support systems to sustain crew operations during Artemis II. The accused, Mohammad Jamil bin Mohammed Iqbal, a resident of Kuala Lumpur, used to buy SIM cards from India and sell them in Malaysia, which cyber fraudsters used to cheat people in this country while sitting abroad, police said. Police have recovered a Malaysian passport, an international driving licence, one health card, one debit card, one mobile phone, and Indian and foreign currency notes from the possession of Iqbal, who was arrested from Trichy in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Iqbal, who arrived in India on Thursday, took more than 150 SIM cards to Malaysia on two occasions, police said. Two persons who arranged SIM cards for the accused were caught in August along with two others for their alleged involvement in duping a Gurugram resident of Rs 2.81 crore in the name of investment in stock markets. During interrogation, the accused disclosed the name of Iqbal, which prompted the cyber police to issue a look out circular in his name. As soon as he landed in Trichy on Thursday, the airport police caught Iqbal and informed Gurugram Police who took him into custody on Saturday. “Iqbal’s mother was from Tamil Nadu. He also got married to a woman from the state and was well-versed in Tamil. Iqbal, who came to India with another Malaysian accomplice, came in contact with a gang of cyber thugs in February. A 40-year-old man has fallen prey to scammers in shares trading investment fraud and lost over Rs40 lakh in two months. According to the police, the complainant is a resident of Dombivali and works in a private company in Airoli. On October 6, the complainant’s mobile number was added to a WhatsApp group on which information about buying, selling and profits generated on investment was being shared. The complainant also showed interest in investing after which the scammers asked him to download a bogus trading app on October 10. Accordingly, between November 2 and December 3, the complainant ended up transferring Rs40.37 lakh in multiple online transactions in different bank accounts, on the instructions of the scammers. The complainant could also see the profits generated on his investments on the trading app. However, when he tried to withdraw his earnings, his requests were denied. When the complainant confronted, the scammers, he was asked to pay 30% more on the profits he had earned, which the man refused. Later, when the scammers began giving evasive replies he realised that he had been duped. He then approached the police and got an offence registered. In his police complaint, the complainant has details of contact numbers of the scammers, bogus trading app and transaction details. A case has been registered by the Thane police under section 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the Information Technology Act.

(AP) — President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping and other world leaders to his inauguration next month — an unorthodox move that would fold U.S. allies and adversaries into a very American political tradition. Trump said Thursday during an appearance at the New York Stock Exchange , where he was ringing the opening bell to kick off trading for the day, that he’s been “thinking about inviting certain people to the inauguration” without referring to any specific individuals. “And some people said, ‘Wow, that’s a little risky, isn’t it?’” Trump said. “And I said, ‘Maybe it is. We’ll see. We’ll see what happens.’ But we like to take little chances.” His comments came soon after his incoming White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed during a Thursday morning appearance on “Fox & Friends” that Trump had invited Xi and other world leaders to attend his inauguration. No head of state has previously made an official visit to the U.S. for the inauguration, according to State Department historical records. Incoming U.S. president Donald Trump is brushing off Ontario’s threat to restrict electricity exports in retaliation for sweeping tariffs on Canadian goods, as the province floats the idea of effectively barring sales of American alcohol. On Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford said Ontario is contemplating restricting electricity exports to Michigan, New York state and Minnesota if Trump follows through on a threat to impose a 25 per cent tariff on imports from Canada. “That’s OK if he that does that. That’s fine,” Trump told American network CNBC when asked Thursday about Ford’s remarks on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. “The United States is subsidizing Canada and we shouldn’t have to do that,” Trump added. “And we have a great relationship. I have so many friends in Canada, but we shouldn’t have to subsidize a country,” he said, claiming this amounts to more than US$100 billion annually in unspecified subsidies. Meanwhile, an official in the Ford government says it’s considering restricting the Liquor Control Board of Ontario from buying American-made alcohol. The province says the Crown agency is the largest purchaser of alcohol in the world. The investors in the offering consisted of an institutional fund and certain officers and directors of the Company.
