35 amazing, historical facts we've learned about the Darlington area in 2024Franklin Opera House hosts Festival of Trees on Dec. 6-8North Korean leader Kim Jong Un vowed to implement the “toughest” anti-U.S. policy, state media reported Sunday, less than a month before Donald Trump takes office as U.S. president. Trump’s return to the White House raises prospects for high-profile diplomacy with North Korea. During his first term, Trump met Kim three times for talks on the North's nuclear program. Many experts however say a quick resumption of Kim-Trump summitry is unlikely as Trump would first focus on conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. North Korea's support for Russia's war against Ukraine also poses a challenge to efforts to revive diplomacy, experts say. During a five-day plenary meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party that ended Friday, Kim called the U.S. “the most reactionary state that regards anti-communism as its invariable state policy.” Kim said that the U.S.-South Korea-Japan security partnership is expanding into “a nuclear military bloc for aggression." “This reality clearly shows to which direction we should advance and what we should do and how,” Kim said, according to the official Korean Central News Agency. It said Kim's speech “clarified the strategy for the toughest anti-U.S. counteraction to be launched aggressively” by North Korea for its long-term national interests and security. KCNA didn't elaborate on the anti-U.S. strategy. But it said Kim set forth tasks to bolster military capability through defense technology advancements and stressed the need to improve the mental toughness of North Korean soldiers. The previous meetings between Trump and Kim had not only put an end to their exchanges of fiery rhetoric and threats of destruction, but they developed personal connections. Trump once famously said he and Kim “fell in love.” But their talks eventually collapsed in 2019, as they wrangled over U.S.-led sanctions on the North. North Korea has since sharply increased the pace of its weapons testing activities to build more reliable nuclear missiles targeting the U.S. and its allies. The U.S. and South Korea have responded by expanding their military bilateral drills and also trilateral ones involving Japan, drawing strong rebukes from the North, which views such U.S.-led exercises as invasion rehearsals. Further complicating efforts to convince North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons in return for economic and political benefits is its deepening military cooperation with Russia. According to U.S., Ukrainian and South Korean assessments, North Korea has sent more than 10,000 troops and conventional weapons systems to support Moscow's war against Ukraine. There are concerns that Russia could give North Korea advanced weapons technology in return, including help to build more powerful nuclear missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last week that 3,000 North Korean troops have been killed and wounded in the fighting in Russia's Kursk region. It was the first significant estimate by Ukraine of North Korean casualties since the North Korean troop deployment to Russia began in October. Russia and China, locked in separate disputes with the U.S., have repeatedly blocked U.S.-led pushes to levy more U.N. sanctions on North Korea despite its repeated missile tests in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions. Last month, Kim said that his past negotiations with the United States only confirmed Washington’s “unchangeable” hostility toward his country and described his nuclear buildup as the only way to counter external threats.

Jones accounts for 4 TDs, defense adds two TDs, NC Central swamps Delaware State 52-10In the current market of fintech which is filled with automation, creativity and growth, there are platforms that are needed which can assist the organization in combing through a multitude of complicated financial transactions in a seamless manner. Lohith Paripati, a visionary in the product space, has transformed the financial technology landscape through his efforts in building a single revenue platform which not only changed the way businesses worked but also raised the bar of the industry in general. Such inefficiencies also stem from the proliferation of management systems with many face values such as log systems and may increase manufacturing, maintenance and violation activities. Early in his career, Lohith Comprehended these issues and began planning for a revenue platform that could efficiently integrate all of the different processes regarding the revenue of a large range of products. His goal was to bring all of these systems under one roof and create an advanced, unified platform that could easily tackle multi-faceted monetization with security and compliance at ease. Very importantly, Lohith approached the task with keen appreciation of customer needs. He undertook detailed interviews and sponsored customer research so this platform was created for the user. This care for the customer not only informed how the development was done but also made certain that the product built, addressed the needs of the users as they exist in the world. A salient contribution of the project Lohith undertook was the adoption of Design for Delight which he describes as a unique design methodology. It involved designing workshops that stimulated the need to look for a variety of solutions that would be synthesized to the best through continuous testing and prototyping. This approach not only nurtured creativity in the team but logically ensured the practical relevance of the developed solutions. It is worth noting that Lohith’s leadership in promoting this design methodology was key in creating a platform that would be appealing to the eye. Emirates Retail decided to invest time in user experience which allowed them to focus on making sure that all features developed were designed with pain points in mind. Redesigning and transforming the revenue architecture of an organization is no small task and Lohith was well aware that many heads would be involved in the success of this particular project. He actively engaged with the finance teams to come up with products that specifically addressed customer needs and also fit within the company’s wider strategy. Unlike what would have been the case without these consultations, it was imperative that the platform could accommodate new monetization methods to enhance growth and profit. Apart from finance teams, Lohith worked together with the architects on the implementation of a modern microservices-based design. The change from monolithic code to a microservices architecture was surely a big task, but it was very critical in enhancing the reusability and scalability of the platform. Lohith’s skill of pulling off multidisciplinary teams and steering them through complex change was affirming of his leadership and strategy. Unified Revenue Platform developed and implemented some operational changes that were felt greatly. In solving the revenue cycle problems, Lohith’s platform worked towards making the closing books of finance teams done in a quite accurate and efficient manner. The system integration realized so many benefits: minimizing maintenance cost, better security, compliance and general system integration of higher standard capabilities than the expectations in the industry. A key benefit of the platform is its capacity to enhance new and creative models for monetization. This has helped to introduce new products targeting new markets such as the gig economy, which has further facilitated job creation and economic expansion. The platform’s advancement has not only enhanced the company aspects but also raised the bar on more reasonable expectations in the fintech sector. For Lohith, it was not just a matter of completing a working platform, it was about establishing the bedrock for ongoing growth of new ideas. By adopting a customer-driven mindset and leveraging the power of doing things differently, Lohith guaranteed that the platform was able to expand and evolve in order to address the issues of the sector. This project further expanded Lohith’s understanding of commerce and monetization within the fintech industry and consolidated his position about the necessity of being innovative. It calls attention also to the essential contribution of teamwork, planning as well as strong focus on customer needs in creating new products. Paripati contributed towards the realization of a unified revenue platform for Architech supporting a hands-on approach to applying leadership in the fintech space. Being the originator of unprecedented strategies, creative design processes as well as strong teamwork Lohith has developed a solution that overcomes today’s problems and prepares the company for future growth. His work has been impactful to the organization and the entire sector and his achievements still serve as motivation to other players in the fintech sector to advance the existing levels of remarkable developments. The fact that Lohith Paripati is a product leader in fintech does not come as a surprise, as he is fascinated by innovation. Thanks to his background in product management, strategic planning and customer experience, Lohith has taken several transformational programs and projects that redefine business processes and create industry benchmarks. His passion for learning and acquiring skills through practice brings him into the inner circle of the fintech world where most of his works remain instrumental in development and change. A pair of teams with minimal rest will face off in Nassau, Bahamas, on Sunday when No. 22 St. John takes on Georgia. St. John's (5-1), which will play its third game in four days, began the stretch in the Bahamas Championship on Thursday, dropping a heartbreaker to No. 13 Baylor. The Red Storm led by 18 in the first half before Baylor forced overtime. From there, St. John's rallied from five down with 1:47 left to send the game to a second overtime, where it saw Baylor knock down a pair of 3-pointers in the final seven seconds -- including Jeremy Roach's buzzer-beater -- to knock off the Red Storm 99-98. In the third-place game on Friday, St. John's breezed past Virginia 80-55. RJ Luis Jr. led the way with 18 points and four steals, followed by Kadary Richmond's 12 points, as the Red Storm took a one-point lead with 15:21 left in the first half and didn't trail again. "I'm really impressed with our guys, coming off a double-overtime, extremely emotional loss," St. John's head coach Rick Pitino said. "To respond that way was extremely impressive, both offensively and defensively." Pitino, in his second year with the Red Storm, was moved by something off the court on Friday, involving captain Zuby Ejiofor, who chipped in eight points, nine boards, two steals and two blocks. Ejiofor was serenaded by St. John's fans during the win, following his two missed free throws at the end of double overtime against Baylor. "When you've only been in a job for a year, you search for things you love about a place," Pitino said. "Tonight I found out what I love about St. John's. Our fans chanted Zuby's name the whole game, which doesn't happen anywhere else in America. I was really impressed with our fans and I thank them for making Zuby feel good, because he gives you all the energy." Luis leads the Red Storm with 17.3 points per game, followed by Ejiofor (10.7), Aaron Scott (10.5), Deivon Smith (10.3) and Richmond (10.2). Georgia enters Sunday's matchup looking to rebound from its first loss after falling to No. 15 Marquette 80-69 on Saturday. We just have to embrace the process and enjoy it." Five-star freshman recruit Asa Newell was held to a season-low nine points but leads the team with 15.5 points per game. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)The losing run may have been halted – but the questions remain for Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players. From 3-0 up, City contrived to throw away victory with self-inflicted mistakes, three goals conceded in 14 minutes underlining the scale of the ongoing crisis facing Guardiola. Catastrophic defending allowed Feyenoord a way back into a game that should have been beyond them, but Guardiola's side proved obliging opponents with their late collapse. City travel to Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, where a repeat of such mistakes will be punished ruthlessly by Arne Slot 's formidable side. An error from Josko Gvardiol 15 minutes from time, a sloppy backpass that allowed Feyenoord to score, showed City's propensity for self-inflicted damage. More defensive chaos, seven minutes later, allowed Feyenoord to pull another goal back and leave City fans fearing another home implosion, after Saturday's 4-0 mauling to Spurs. Those fears were well-founded with the Dutch side grabbing an equaliser a minute from normal time, after more slapstick defending from City saw them punished once again. Feyenoord always looked threatening, even when they went behind and the game seemed beyond them, Brian Priske's side deserving huge credit for refusing to accept they were beaten. They had to wait until midway through the first-half for their sight of the City goal, Igor Paixao sending a spectacular volleyed effort high and wide under pressure from Foden. A minute later, at the other end, Wellenreuther came to his side's rescue with another stunning save, diving at full-stretch down to his left to turn away a low goal-bound strike from Foden, Guardiola unable to contain his despair at another near-miss. After a bright start to the game, City's passing began to go awry, with Ederson, Silva, Akanji and Matheus Nunes all guilty of conceding possession cheaply, to the increasing dismay of Guardiola. Paixao was presented with another opportunity to score just after the half-hour, but his half-hearted attempt a a lob was gathered easily by Ederson. A thunderous shot from Hwang was deflected behind off Nunes, as City continued to live dangerously and invite pressure. What's going wrong for Man City? Share your thoughts in the comments below When Haaland was put through on goal by Foden, it seemed inevitable he would score, but the forward's shot was blocked by David Hancko. But Haaland was not to be denied a third time, converting from the penalty spot in the 44 th minute after he was adjudged to have been fouled to win a fortuitous spot-kick. City doubled their lead five minutes after the restart, when a volley from the edge of the area from Ilkay Gundogan took a deflection off Hancko, leaving Wellenreuther no chance of saving it. Haaland made it 3-0 two minutes later, sliding to turn the ball into the net from a Nunes cross, who was set scampering down the right courtesy of a sublime pass from Gundogan. Gvardiol's mistake allowed Anis Hadji Moussa to pull a goal back, then the nerves were further shredded when sub Santiago Gimenez chested the ball in from close range after more slapstick defending from City. Feyenoord completed the miracle comeback in the 89 th minute when Paixao got to the ball ahead of Ederson and crossed for Hancko to head into the empty net. There was no show of anger from Guardioa, who simply scratched his head, seemingly incredulous at how his side had imploded at home for the second time in four days. No. 22 St. John's, Georgia pack busy schedule with game on SundayBryce Young had the look he wanted. With 54 seconds to go, trailing by six and with no timeouts in his pocket against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Carolina Panthers quarterback saw the opposing secondary presenting a coverage that would allow Xavier Legette to sneak behind the defense on the post route head coach Dave Canales had dialed up. Young took the second-and-4 snap and from the Philadelphia 32-yard line. As the pocket formed around him, he confidently stepped up into the middle as Legette made his break toward the end zone. Young fired in his direction, and everything about the play had the makings of a touchdown that would tie the game at 22 prior to an extra point. The Panthers were on the cusp of knocking off arguably the NFL's hottest team in the Eagles, who entered with an eight-game winning streak. But the officials never signaled touchdown. Replay made it clear what they saw on the field; Legette, the 32nd overall pick in the draft out of South Carolina, never secured the ball before the pigskin hit the turf, and the ground clearly caused the ball to move. Incomplete. The Panthers had two more chances to gain 4 yards and secure a new set of downs. No dice. “(Expletive), I thought I caught that (expletive),” Legette told reporters after the game. All things Panthers: Latest Carolina Panthers news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more. Legette said he didn’t know the ball hit the ground until a replay was shown on the Lincoln Financial Field jumbotron. Asked if he felt like he had control before the ball hit the ground he said: “Hell yeah.” Inside of two minutes, and without any timeouts, Canales had no way to ask for an official review. “I thought it would have been the protocol," Canales said of a potential review. "The ball moved around a little bit ... the officials saw it, we saw it on the sideline, it was close. Gonna have to look at it again.” Canales said that the mishap was "absolutely" a play he expects Legette to make. "That’s a big play we’re counting on. He’d be the first one to tell you he’s got to make that play," Canales said. "Bryce steps up, makes a beautiful throw in that situation, had the coverage we wanted. Those are the types of plays we have to make to get back in the winning column." The Panthers have been lining up Legette as the "X" receiver, a position that presents plenty of target opportunities, Canales said. Legette finished with two catches for 39 yards on eight targets. Legette was on the other side of Young's most impressive play of the day. As Carolina started the final drive from its own 3-yard line, Young evaded a sack that would have resulted in a safety and dropped a dime to Legette near the left sideline while almost throwing across his body. “Felt like we were gonna be 97 yards with a chance to win,” Canales said. Legette came up slow after the pickup of 31 yards and was briefly evaluated on the sideline before returning. "We're counting on him ... these are all things that we take and we learn and we grow (from), and I truly believe that we’re going to be in high-stakes games going against great teams and great players and we’re going to have to make those plays," said Canales, alluding to his team's loss last Sunday in overtime against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which came after running back Chuba Hubbard fumbled as the Panthers were in game-winning field-goal range. Young (19-for-34, 194 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception) said his belief in Legette remains strong and that he is a "great player" with a "super-bright future." "I know he knows I always believe in him," Canales said. "I always know he’s going to make the next one. I’m always going to have faith in that. I see how hard he works, the type of guy he is. Great for us, great in the locker room. It’s tough for us. We all miss things." Young said he will reinforce his words by showing him – the quarterback’s not going to stop throwing him the ball. “I trust him in every situation," Young said. "That’s not going to change.” Fellow Panthers wideout Adam Thielen hadn’t talked to the Legette yet when he met the media after the game, but the 11-year veteran wants the 23-year-old to know every receiver has experienced something similar at some point in their careers. “He’s a hard worker," Thielen said. "He does things the right way. We’re proud of him. He had a great game. Just keep working, and we’re there for him."

Losing to older brother John Harbaugh and seeing the Los Angeles Chargers’ four-game winning streak snapped Monday night might be the least of Jim Harbaugh’s problems this week. The Chargers are holding their breath that running back J.K. Dobbins isn’t seriously hurt after he left with a knee injury late in the first half of the Chargers’ 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens . Harbaugh, who dislikes discussing injuries and eschews questions about any player’s status with the tried and true “I’m not a doctor” answer, will get plenty of inquiries about Dobbins’ health this week. There were no updates on Dobbins’ status Tuesday. The Chargers return to practice on a short week before having to travel cross-country to Atlanta. After injuries derailed Dobbins’ four years with the Ravens, the 2020 second-round pick decided to bet on himself by signing only a one-year deal with the Chargers. Though the first 10 1/2 games, the bet appeared to be paying off. Dobbins had 40 yards on six carries when he was wrenched backward by linebacker Malik Harrison and then gang-tackled on a play for no gain on third-and-1 at the 50-yard line. RELATED COVERAGE Malik Nabers says calling the Giants ‘soft’ was wrong but he doesn’t regret speaking out Commanders place kicker Austin Seibert on injured reserve Ravens’ running game was crucial in a big win over the Chargers, especially on 4th down Dobbins is fourth in the AFC in rushing with 766 yards and averages 4.8 yards per carry, third highest among AFC backs with at least 100 carries. Dobbins’ production throughout the season has made the offense more balanced. Los Angeles had 14 rushes for 68 yards before he was injured. They had seven carries for 15 yards the rest of the game. Without Dobbins and a 14-13 deficit at halftime, the Chargers tried to count on Justin Herbert and the passing game to rally back. Herbert was 11 for 22 for 125 yards and sacked three times in the five drives after Dobbins’ departure and didn’t get back into the end zone until Gus Edwards’ 1-yard run with 46 seconds remaining. Edwards will be counted on to be the lead back if Dobbins has to miss games. Edwards missed four games during the middle of the season because of an ankle injury and has 25 carries for 93 yards in three games since returning to the lineup. Hassan Haskins and rookie Kimani Vidal will be counted on to provide depth. “Obviously, I’m hoping J.K. is OK. Gus has been an awesome addition, being able to run and go and get some yards,” Herbert said. “We just got to stay with it. I think that offensive line has done a great job all year. It didn’t go our way today, but we’re going to keep pounding the ball and keep getting after it.” Dobbins’ injury also could not come at a worse time for the Chargers. They are 7-4 and hold the sixth seed in the AFC, but have tough upcoming tests against playoff contenders Atlanta (6-5), Kansas City (10-1), Tampa Bay (5-6) and Denver (7-5) the next four weeks. What’s working Herbert on the run. Herbert has at four scrambles of at least 12 yards in the past five games and got his second rushing touchdown of the season on the opening drive with a 5-yard carry up the middle. What needs help Not giving up big-play touchdowns. Rashod Bateman’s 40-yard touchdown late in the second quarter (which would have been pass interference on Kristian Fulton if it wasn’t completed) marked the third straight game the Chargers allowed a passing TD of at least 40 yards. They had allowed only two in the first nine games. Stock up LB Joey Bosa had four tackles, his most since he had seven in Week 1 against the Raiders. Bosa missed three games earlier in the season because of a hip injury, but had only two tackles in the four games since his return until Monday night. Stock down WR Quentin Johnston is the second Chargers receiver since 2009 to be targeted at least five times and not have a catch according to Sportradar. Travis Benjamin also had five targets and no receptions against the Jets in 2017. Besides being held without a catch, Johnston had two critical drops during the second half. Injuries In addition to Dobbins, CB Eli Apple suffered a hamstring injury in the first half and did not return. CB Cam Hart was inactive because of an ankle injury and was in a walking boot. LB Denzel Perryman (groin) and TE Hayden Hurst (hip) were also inactive because of injuries. Key numbers 57 — Points allowed by the Chargers in the past two games. They had given up 68 in their first five games after their bye week. 73 — Games it took for Herbert to reach 1,800 completions, tying him with Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes as the fastest players in NFL history to reach that mark. 6 — Games where Daiyan Henley has had double-digit tackles. The second-year linebacker had 10 tackles (four solo) on Monday night. What’s next The Chargers will make their second trip in three years to Atlanta on Sunday. They won the 2022 meeting in Week 9 when Cameron Dicker hit a 37-yard field goal on the last play of the game. Los Angeles is 2-0 against the NFC South this season and has a four-game winning streak against teams in the division. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLParamount + 's new rom-com The Road Trip landed on our screens over the festive period – and viewers have given their verdict on the series. Based on Beth O'Leary's popular romance novel of the same name, the six-parter follows exes Addie (Emma Appleton) and Dylan (Laurie Davidson) who are forced to travel in a campervan from Bristol to Spain together to attend the wedding of a mutual friend. Taking to social media, viewers heaped praise on the series, which also stars Isabella Laughland (Harry Potter) as Addie's sister Deb, David Jonsson (Rye Lane) as Dylan's friend Marcus, Angus Imrie (Fleabag) as Rodney, and Hannah (Bridgerton) as Grace. One person penned: " Such a great series. Loved it. " while another added: "Second chance and close proximity trope delivered. Enjoyed Addie and Dylan." A third fan binge-watched all six episodes in one sitting, writing: "I usually hate the miscommunication trope, but #theroadtrip did it SO WELL! I just binged the whole show in one go," while another encouraged others to tune in: "Go watch #TheRoadTrip for a good end of year/start of a new one." For those yet to tune into the series, here's the official synopsis: "When Addie sets off from Bristol on an epic road trip to a wedding in Spain with her sister Deb, she's barely out of the city when her knackered VW campervan is rear-ended by a speeding Porsche containing her ex, Dylan, and his obnoxious best friend Marcus. Addie and Dylan haven't spoken since their messy breakup but – headed to the same wedding and with best man Dylan's ride totalled – Addie agrees to put their differences aside and travel together." It continues: "A thousand miles is a long time to be stuck in a campervan with so much buried history though, especially when you're on your way back to the exact place you first fell in love. The mystery of Addie and Dylan's breakup looms large. What really did happen? Why have they had no contact? Who, if anyone, was to blame? It’s going to be a bumpy ride..." 30 greatest TV shows of 2024: the ultimate countdown Babygirl viewers all saying the same thing about Nicole Kidman's erotic thriller Strike: The Ink Black Heart: How the book differs to the series Bad Sisters season 2: Apple TV+ show's bittersweet ending explained Unlike the book, which is set in the UK, Addie and Dylan's road trip takes place in Spain, as they attempt to make it to a wedding held at the villa where they first met. Speaking about the change in location, author Beth told Paramount+ that while she misses the original setting, the European backdrop adds a layer to the story. "I'm going to give you a totally honest answer to this – I slightly miss the UK setting for the road trip itself!" she said. " I just loved the absolute lack of glamour to a British road trip versus the iconic ones we usually see on screen. Like, the M3 is so comically dull. But I have to say the team have done an amazing job of keeping that vibe with a different and more visually exciting setting. And actually, I love the symmetry of their journey taking them back to the exact villa where it all began. I think that’s so smart, and really adds a layer to the story." The Road Trip is available to stream on Paramount+ in the UK. A US release date has not yet been confirmed.
