Dr. Johnson highlighted the importance of enhancing intelligence-sharing, border security, and counterterrorism cooperation among countries to combat the spread of extremism and disrupt terrorist networks. "Preventing the radicalization of individuals, countering terrorist financing, and promoting deradicalization and rehabilitation programs are essential components of a holistic approach to addressing the terrorism threat emanating from the Syrian crisis," she suggested.East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr., a potential first-round pick, declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday. "After an incredible journey at East Carolina, I am officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft," the senior posted on social media. "... Pirates nation, thank you for your unwavering energy and support every game. Representing ECU is an honor, and I look forward to continuing to do so on Sundays!" Revel recorded two interceptions in three games this season, returning one 50 yards for a touchdown on Sept. 14 against Appalachian State. Over three seasons with the Pirates, Revel had three interceptions, 15 passes defensed and 70 tackles in 24 games. He was a second-team All-American Athletic Conference selection last season. NEW YORK — In the thick of holiday travel, another unticketed passenger attempted to stow away on a Delta Air Lines flight. The stowaway, who has not been identified by name, boarded a flight from Seattle to Honolulu on Christmas Eve. Atlanta-based Delta said that the unticketed passenger was discovered while the plane was taxing for departure. The aircraft returned to the gate to remove the unticketed passenger — and law enforcement later apprehended them, the airline added. According to the Port of Seattle, which operates Seattle-Tacoma International, all other passengers were also deplaned and returned to a Transportation Security Administration checkpoint for rescreening "out an abundance of caution." Delta flight 487 later left the Seattle airport and continued on to Honolulu — but the trip was delayed by 2 hours and 15 minutes as a result, according to Delta. According to an incident description from the Port of Seattle, the stowaway went through a TSA security checkpoint the evening before the flight, "without a boarding pass but was properly screened." The individual also gained access to the loading bridge without a scanned ticket at the gate, the port said. Tuesday's incident comes less than a month after another stowaway boarded a Delta flight from John F. Kennedy International and flew to Paris. She was arrested when and flown back to the U.S. NEW YORK — One person is dead and several others are injured after an overnight fire at a Tyson Foods plant in southwest Georgia, the company said Dec. 27. Tyson said it was working with local authorities to determine the cause. A union, which represents 1,600 workers at the plant said a boiler had exploded. The plant in Camilla, which has a population of about 5,000, is the largest employer in Mitchell County. Tyson bought it in 2018 as part of its $2.16 billion purchase of Keystone Foods. The union said the plant primarily produces chicken nuggets and chicken filets for restaurants. WASHINGTON — A ninth U.S. telecommunications firm has been confirmed to have been hacked as part of a sprawling Chinese espionage campaign that gave officials in Beijing access to private texts and phone conversations of an unknown number of Americans, a top White House official said Dec. 27. Biden administration officials said this month that at least eight telecom companies, as well as dozens of nations, had been affected by the Chinese hacking blitz known as Salt Typhoon. Anne Neuberger, a deputy national security adviser, said a ninth victim had been identified after the administration released guidance to companies about how to hunt for Chinese culprits in their networks. Though the FBI has not publicly identified the victims, officials believe senior U.S. government officials and prominent political figures are among those whose whose communications were accessed. NEW YORK — Maryland is suing the company that produces the waterproof material Gore-Tex often used for raincoats and other outdoor gear, alleging its leaders kept using "forever chemicals" long after learning about serious health risks associated with them. The complaint, which was filed in federal court, focuses on a cluster of 13 sites in northeastern Maryland operated by W.L. Gore & Associates. It alleges the company polluted the air and water around its facilities with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, jeopardizing the health of surrounding communities while raking in profits. The lawsuit adds to other claims filed in recent years, including a class action on behalf of Cecil County residents in 2023 demanding Gore foot the bill for water filtration systems, medical bills and other damages. A Gore spokesperson said the company is "surprised by the Maryland Attorney General's decision to initiate legal action, particularly in light of our proactive and intensive engagement with state regulators over the past two years." MIAMI — Florida condominium owners are looking at higher costs from their homeowner associations in the new year, a consequence of a safety law passed by state lawmakers in 2022. It requires associations to have sufficient reserves to cover major repairs and to conduct a survey of reserves every decade. Because of the law, older condos are facing hefty increases to association payments to fund the reserves and repair costs. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the law in response to the partial collapse of Champlain Towers South, which killed 98 people in Surfside in June 2021. New regulations require condo associations for buildings with three or more stories to file an inspection report focused on structure, maintenance and expected costs for repairs or renovations by Dec. 31.NEW YORK — Stocks fell broadly on Friday as Wall Street closed out a holiday-shortened week on a down note. The losses were made worse by sharp declines for the Big Tech stocks known as the “Magnificent 7”, which can heavily influence the direction of the market because of their large size. The S&P 500 fell 66.75 points, or 1.1%, to 5,970.84. Roughly 90% of stocks in the benchmark index lost ground, but it managed to hold onto a modest gain of 0.7% for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 333.59 points, or 0.8%, to 42,992.21. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite fell 298.33 points, or 1.5%, to 19,722.03. Semiconductor giant Nvidia slumped 2.1%. Microsoft declined 1.7%. Each has a market value above $3 trillion, giving the companies outsized sway on the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. A wide range of retailers also fell. Amazon fell 1.5% and Best Buy slipped 1.5%. The sector is being closely watched for clues on how it performed during the holiday shopping season. Energy stocks held up better than the rest of the market, with a loss of less than 0.1% as crude oil prices rose. “There’s just some uncertainty over this relief rally we’ve witnessed since last week,” said Adam Turnquist, chief technical strategist for LPL Financial. The S&P 500 gained nearly 3% over a 3-day stretch before breaking for the Christmas holiday. On Thursday, the index posted a small decline. Despite Friday’s drop, the market is moving closer to another standout annual finish . The S&P 500 is on track for a gain of around 25% in 2024. That would mark a second consecutive yearly gain of more than 20%, the first time that has happened since 1997-1998. The gains have been driven partly by upbeat economic data showing that consumers continued spending and the labor market remained strong. Inflation, while still high, has also been steadily easing. A report on Friday showed that sales and inventory estimates for the wholesales trade industry fell 0.2% in November, following a slight gain in October. That weaker-than-expected report follows an update on the labor market Thursday that showed unemployment benefits held steady last week. The stream of upbeat economic data and easing inflation helped prompt a reversal in the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy this year. Expectations for interest rate cuts also helped drive market gains. The central bank recently delivered its third cut to interest rates in 2024. Even though inflation has come closer to the central bank’s target of 2%, it remains stubbornly above that mark and worries about it heating up again have tempered the forecast for more interest rate cuts. Inflation concerns have added to uncertainties heading into 2025, which include the labor market’s path ahead and shifting economic policies under incoming President Donald Trump. Worries have risen that Trump’s preference for tariffs and other policies could lead to higher inflation , a bigger U.S. government debt and difficulties for global trade. Amedisys rose 4.7% after the home health care and hospice services provider agreed to extend the deadline for its sale to UnitedHealth Group. The Justice Department had sued to block the $3.3 billion deal, citing concerns the combination would hinder access to home health and hospice services in the U.S.
In conclusion, the optimization of financial and monetary policies to meet market expectations and strengthen extraordinary countercyclical regulation is essential in navigating economic complexities and fostering sustainable growth. By embracing a proactive and strategic approach, policymakers can enhance policy effectiveness, promote market stability, and bolster economic resilience in the face of uncertainties and challenges.务票,服务友好,预约方便快捷。The mother and daughter, whose identities have not been disclosed, were lured into investing a significant sum of money in a scheme that promised high returns within a short period of time. The Bulldogs had their eyes opened and fortitude tested as they needed 8 overtimes to take down Georgia Tech 44-42 Nov. 29. The Dogs failed to cover as 17-point favorites to cap off a 3-9 season against the spread (ATS). Georgia went 6-2 in SEC play, losing at the Ole Miss Rebels 28-12 and at the Alabama Crimson Tide 41-34. The Longhorns finished up with an impressive 17-7 win over Texas A&M Nov. 30, covering as 4.5-point favorites. Texas went 7-5 ATS during the regular season and 7-1 in the conference. The Longhorns' only loss was to these Bulldogs, at home, in a 30-15 setback Oct. 19 as 4-point favorites. Georgia QB Carson Beck threw 3 INTs, but RB Trevor Etienne ran in 3 TDs. Georgia vs. Texas picks and predictions Prediction Georgia 24, Texas 21 Moneyline Etienne is listed as questionable with a rib injury, and he has missed 3 straight games. He has been limited in practice this week, but this feels like a situation that he was held out in order to be ready for this one. If the Longhorns lose this game, they can probably still get in the college playoff. However, it's probably lights out for the Bulldogs if they don't win. With this game being in Atlanta, that motivation for the Bulldogs, and the previous win by them, I like Georgia here. Texas has a little bit of a quarterback controversy with Arch Manning mixing in the offense, and Ewers averaged just 195 yards passing the last 3 games. Take GEORGIA +125 . Against the spread Since we're going with the value at the ML, forget the spread. Instead, take QUINN EWERS UNDER 233.5 YARDS PASSING ( -115 ). He has not eclipsed this moderate number in 6 of his last 8 games. Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now ! Over/Under Texas is 3-6-1 O/U in its last 10, and Georgia is 6-4. These teams have met twice since 2019; both went Under and had fewer than 51 total points scored. I look for a tightly contested matchup where the run game will be key. Take the UNDER 50.5 ( -115 ). LOS ANGELES (AP) — OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is planning to make a $1 million personal donation to President-Elect Donald Trump's inauguration fund, joining a number of tech companies and executives who are working to improve their relationships with the incoming administration. A spokesperson for OpenAI confirmed the move on Friday. The announcement comes one day after Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, said it donated $1 million to the same fund. Amazon also said it plans to donate $1 million. “President Trump will lead our country into the age of AI, and I am eager to support his efforts to ensure America stays ahead," Altman said in a statement. Altman, who is in a legal dispute with rival Elon Musk, has said he is “not that worried” about the Tesla CEO's influence in the incoming administration. Trump is putting Musk, the world’s richest man, and Vivek Ramaswamy , an entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate, in charge of the new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which is an outside advisory committee that will work with people inside the government to reduce spending and regulations. Musk, an early OpenAI investor and board member, sued the artificial intelligence company earlier this year alleging that the maker of ChatGPT betrayed its founding aims of benefiting the public good rather than pursuing profits. Musk recently escalated the lawsuit by asking a federal judge to stop OpenAI’s plans to convert itself into a for-profit business more fully. —— The Associated Press and OpenAI have a licensing and technology agreement allowing OpenAI access to part of the AP’s text archives.
