Anthony Scaramucci , former White House communications director, on Monday drew parallels between President-elect Donald Trump’ s nomination of Kash Patel for FBI director and Matt Gaetz ‘s unsuccessful bid for attorney general. The Details : Scaramucci told CNN's Anderson Cooper that Trump’s initial cabinet picks aim to please his MAGA base, but he likely has backup candidates if the initial nominations fail. "He‘s doing that because he looks at his base and saying these [picks] are for you," Scaramucci said. Scaramucci pointed to Trump's quick selection of Pam Bondi as a replacement candidate for attorney general after Gaetz withdrew, facing resistance from Senate Republicans and ongoing investigations into alleged misconduct. "I think it‘s the same thing with Kash Patel. I don‘t think the expectation is that he‘s going to get through," he added, referring to Patel’s chances of confirmation. The main difference is that a trading account is used for buying and selling shares in the secondary market, and its effect such as debiting or crediting securities are reflected in the demat account. Let’s explore how these two accounts differ from each other. A Demat account, short for Dematerialized account, stores your securities in electronic form. It converts physical shares into an electronic format, allowing you to hold assets such as shares, bonds, futures and options, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual funds, and other securities. Each Demat account has a unique account number, similar to a bank account. You can open a Demat account with zero balance, and there is no requirement for a minimum number of shares to be held in the account. While a trading account allows you to buy and sell shares of different companies on the stock market, it facilitates your transactions, enabling you to trade shares. The trading account works in conjunction with a Demat account, meaning the shares you purchase through the trading account are stored in your Demat account. When you wish to sell the shares, you can use your trading account for that purpose. Similar to a Demat account, a trading account also has a unique account number.

I flew business class from Australia with Vietnam Airlines. Here's what you can expectALPHARETTA, Ga. , Nov. 25, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Arclin, a leading material science company, officially launched its new brand on November 12, 2024 . This modern rebranding reflects the company's evolution as a material science provider with a focus on protective and mission-critical products and its expanded presence as a global leader across key market sectors. To better align its brand with its evolving vision, Arclin embarked on a year-long research, strategy, and creative development process. The initial months focused on gathering insights from internal stakeholders, existing customers, and industry experts to identify key strengths, value propositions, and areas for growth. "The research phase was pivotal in helping us sharpen our focus and align internally so that we could better represent our true value and potential to different internal and external audiences," said Mark Glaspey , Arclin's Chief Operating Officer. A key partner in this transformation has been Matchstic, a brand identity firm based in Atlanta, GA. Collaborating closely with the Arclin team, Matchstic helped transform the company's narrative from a chemical and applications company to that of a global leader in formulated technologies that are essential to meeting worldwide demand. As part of its overall rebranding effort, Arclin also worked with Whiteboard, a Chattanooga, TN , based company, to completely overhaul its website onto a more robust, easier-to-navigate platform that more clearly represents the depth and breadth of the company's offerings. Inspired by the Arclin out-of-the-box approach to thinking and innovating, the new brand symbol is a nod to a deconstructed cube. The shape of the panels implies movement and momentum that speaks to the company's continued innovation and commitment to bringing life-changing products to the world. "The selection of a vibrant orange as our primary color represents a bold departure from our previous brand," said Jana Wright , Arclin's Vice President of Brand & Marketing. "This change signals a confident transition, positioning Arclin as a leading material science company. Our new logo reflects our philosophy of technological precision and innovation." The stenciled wordmark visualizes the relationship between the seen and the unseen with intentional gaps inside the letterforms. This idea highlights the seemingly invisible science that is the backbone of Arclin products—technologies that are vital and found in essential protective products across numerous industries, enhancing our lives in ways that many people do not realize. "We've been around for many years, but never have we been able to fully articulate or capture what we do," stated Bradley Bolduc , Arclin's President and Chief Executive Officer. "It's a complex process, producing polymers and materials that touch so many products and areas of life. We've always taken a back seat in that story. But now is the time to change that, highlighting our transformation over the past five years, by making a bold change in how we present ourselves to our employees, customers and industry as a whole." About Arclin Arclin is a leading materials science company and manufacturer of polymer technologies, engineered products and specialized materials for the construction, agriculture, transportation infrastructure, weather & fire protection, pharmaceutical, nutrition, electronics, design, and other industries. An estimated 20 terminally ill people in the UK die in unrelieved pain each day, according to a study by the independent Office of Health Economics (OHE). According to its research, to be presented to MPs on Tuesday, one in four people receiving palliative care in England have “unmet pain needs”. The OHE said it used “the most conservative of estimates [suggesting] the true number is likely to be much larger”. It calculated that, even with the “highest possible standards of hospice-level palliative care”, more than 7,300 people across the UK died with unrelieved pain in the last three months of their lives in 2023. In 2019, the comparable figure was nearly 6,400 people a year – a 15% increase over four years. It also said that fewer than 5% of terminally ill people in England who needed hospice care in 2023 received it. The OHE’s findings will feed into an intensifying debate over the legalisation of assisted dying ahead of a historic vote by MPs on Friday. Supporters and opponents of Kim Leadbeater’s private member’s bill are making final efforts to persuade undecided MPs, with few willing to predict the result of the free vote. The last few weeks have exposed divisions over the issue within the government, despite an appeal by Keir Starmer for ministers to remain neutral in the debate. Two justice ministers are understood to be planning to vote in favour of assisted dying, after the justice secretary, Shabana Mahmood, said over the weekend that she was fiercely against the proposals. Jess Phillips, the safeguarding minister, said that she was “a person who fundamentally believes in the right for people to make a choice about their bodies”. But she defended Mahmood’s intervention, saying it was up to each individual MP to make their own moral choice. Heidi Alexander, the courts minister, is also understood to be in favour of the bill and was formerly the chair of the all-party parliamentary group on end-of-life care. The OHE said that irrespective of the outcome of Friday’s vote, investment in high-quality end-of-life care should be a “crucial component of the conversation around assisted dying”. Its research supports the argument advanced by advocates for assisted dying that even excellent and comprehensively available palliative care cannot guarantee a pain-free death and that all options should be available to terminally ill people. Demand for palliative care in England increased by 15% between 2019 and 2023, from 378,427 to 436,022 patients. Between now and 2040, demand is expected to increase by a further 25%, the OHE said. Prof Graham Cookson, the organisation’s chief executive, said: “Our research finds that even assuming the highest standards of care, there remains a group for whom no amount of pain relief will ease their suffering in the last few months of their life. Sign up to First Edition Our morning email breaks down the key stories of the day, telling you what’s happening and why it matters after newsletter promotion “However, the reality is that there is an increasingly widening gap in access to palliative care, and this number is only projected to grow, across settings, over the years. The true number of people dying in unrelieved pain in the UK is likely to be much higher than our conservative estimate.” Mark Jarman-Howe, the chief executive of St Helena hospice in Colchester, Essex, said the palliative care sector needed to be more honest. Speaking in a personal capacity, he said: “I’m a great advocate for hospice and palliative care. It can be transformational for people, but it cannot possibly resolve all symptoms and all pain at the end of life. “There are at least 20 people a day in the UK dying in pain, and that doesn’t include other unresolved symptoms such as uncontrollable nausea. Even if we have the best possible funding for hospice care, that would still be an issue that we need to address.” Rebecca Gillanders, a barrister, said her mother’s “excellent” palliative care did not stop a capable, robust and positive woman from being “reduced to a desperate, tormented creature” who begged to die. Gillanders’ mother was diagnosed a year ago with brain cancer and died two months later at the age of 69. “She was on the strongest possible medication, but it took 10 desperate, miserable, brutal days for her to die. Her death was emblematic of the experiences an awful lot of people have behind closed doors.”

School administrators are being urged to encourage teachers and parents to maximise the additional time given to ensure adequate preparation of the students for the assessment. -JISSanta Cruz (California), Dec 24 (AP) Two people were rescued and a third swam to safety after a California pier under construction partially collapsed and fell into the ocean Monday as the state's central coast was pounded by heavy surf from a major storm expected to bring hurricane-force winds to the seas off the Pacific Northwest, authorities said. Residents were warned to stay away from low-lying areas near the beaches around the Santa Cruz Wharf, about 70 miles (112 kilometers) south of San Francisco, as the storm rapidly gained strength. “You are risking your life, and those of the people that would need to try and save you by getting in or too close to the water,” the National Weather Service's Bay Area office said on the social platform X. Lifeguards rescued two people from the water, officials with Santa Cruz Fire Department said. No one had serious injuries, Mayor Fred Keeley said. The mayor said the section of the wharf that collapsed had been damaged over time. The structure was in the middle of a $4 million renovation following destructive storms last winter. “It's a catastrophe for those down at the end of the wharf," said David Johnston, owner of Venture Quest Kayaking, who was allowed onto the pier to check on his business. Tony Elliot, the head of the Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department, estimated that about 150 feet (45 meters) of the end of the wharf fell into the water around 12:45 p.m. It was immediately evacuated and will remain closed indefinitely. Some of the wharf's pilings are still in the ocean and remain “serious, serious hazards” to boats, the mayor said. Each piling weighs hundreds of pounds and is being pushed by powerful waves. Gov. Gavin Newsom's has been briefed and the state's Office of Emergency Services is coordinating with local officials, his office said. Forecasters warned that storm swells will continue to increase throughout the day. “We are anticipating that what is coming toward us is more serious than what was there this morning,” the mayor said. Ocean swells along California's central coast could reach 60 feet (18 meters) as the Pacific storm gains strength through Monday, the weather service said. “A rapidly developing storm will bring hurricane force winds to the areas well offshore of the Pacific Northwest tonight,” the weather service's Ocean Prediction Center said on X. The end of the pier that broke off had been shut down during renovations. The portion, which included public restrooms and the closed Dolphin restaurant, floated about half a mile (0.8 kilometers) down the coast and wedged itself at the bottom of the San Lorenzo River. Those who fell into the water were two engineers and a project manager who were inspecting the end of the wharf, officials said. No members of the public were in the area. Building inspectors were now looking at the rest of the Santa Cruz Wharf's structural integrity. Monday's collapse came about a year after the Seacliff State Beach pier just down the coast was battered beyond repair by a heavy winter storm. Further up the West Coast, dangerous surf conditions and waves up to 30 feet (9.1 meters) were expected from the central Oregon coast up through southwestern Washington. Winds could peak near 80 mph (130 kph) and a high surf warning in effect until 10 p.m. Monday night, forecasters said. In a post on X, the National Weather Service office in Portland, Oregon, said “it will likely go down as some of the highest surf this winter.” (AP) AS AS (This story has not been edited by THE WEEK and is auto-generated from PTI)
