On Monday, Tallulah Willis revealed on social media that she is engaged to musician Justin Acee. In an adorable Instagram post , Willis shared photos from the special moment, showing a close-up of a ring and the couple leaning in for a kiss. She also shared footage seemingly captured by her fiance as he documented the romantic, holiday-themed scenery from the engagement, complete with a candlelit pathway adorned with rose petals. Willis, who in recent years has launched a clothing line, captioned her post “everyday @justinacee,” tagging her beau. Older sister Rumer Willis celebrated the good news on her Instagram stories. “ Baby Sis is Engaged ,” the “Empire” actor wrote while reposting Monday’s announcement. Rumer Willis also showed love under her younger sister’s Instagram post, commenting: “The most beautiful love to witness and watch grow. I love you both so much. Justin I’m so lucky I get to call you my brother.” She added: “Baby Lula my gift my queen my heart is so full. Obsessed with you both.” Their middle sister, Scout Willis, joined in on her own Instagram stories, writing, “My angels are engagedddddddddddddd.” Like Tallulah Willis, Rumer and Scout Willis are the adult daughters of Bruce Willis and Moore, his ex-wife. Technology Don't miss out on the headlines from Technology. Followed categories will be added to My News. While most Australians support Bunnings using facial recognition technology (FRT) to protect customers and staff, one of the nation’s leading experts in the field has warned it’s far from foolproof. In a poll conducted by news.com.au, 78 per cent of the almost 11,000 people who voted backed the company’s use of the controversial program as an “important tool”. It comes after the Privacy Commissioner found Bunnings had breached Australians’ privacy over the course of three years, ruling “just because a technology may be helpful or convenient, does not mean its use is justifiable”. Former Human Rights Commissioner Edward Santow has explained why the “experimental” technology was unsettling for authorities despite the “legitimate concerns” of issues like crime prevention. An alleged assault at Midland Bunnings in 2020. Picture: Bunnings He said the current generation of FRT generally relied on data captured without “rigour” by big tech companies scraping our social media. “So there’ll be people caught up in that who have never been accused, let alone convicted, of any crime,” Mr Santow said. “What you’re creating with this sort of facial recognition is a kind of virtual line up and we’re always in it every time we walk into one of those stores.” Bunnings was this week found to have breached privacy by capturing the faces of “likely hundreds of thousands” of Australians who entered 63 Bunnings stores in Victoria and NSW from November 2018 to November 2021. It has not used the technology since its trial ended in November 2021. Bunnings Managing Director Michael Schneider said the company believes it was using FTR lawfully. Picture: AAP Image/Joel Carrett The hardware giant maintained that using the technology was an important safety measure, and released a compilation of shocking incidents in stores which included clips or armed robbers, staff being physically attacked, and a naked man following an employee. Managing Director Michael Schneider said the ruling did not “pass the pub test”, adding images were captured and held for 0.00417 seconds – “or less than the blink of an eye”. “I think any reasonably minded person is going to understand that is not capturing and storing data,” Mr Schneider said. “Particularly when you look at it through the lens of keeping our team and our customers safe.” Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind said FRT had “emerged as one of the most ethically challenging” issues in recent years. She accepted Bunnings had “well-intentioned efforts to address unlawful activity” but found “deploying facial recognition technology was the most intrusive option, disproportionately interfering with the privacy of everyone who entered its stores, not just high-risk individuals”. Some kinds of facial recognition technology is still considered “experimental”. Picture: iStock Mr Santow, co-founder of the University of Technology Sydney’s Human Technology Institute, said the privacy commissioner’s ruling was “balanced” in recognising Bunnings’ good intentions and declining to impose any financial penalties. “But what (Ms Kind) was really saying was that in this specific situation, they weren’t taking strong enough privacy protections,” he said. On its website Bunnings states how the technology is used with matches to a “potential offender” sending an alert to staff who then manually check the images. If confirmed, a loss prevention officer would then decide to deploy a security officer to monitor the person, inform store leadership and/or call police. Bunnings was using the technology between 2018 and 2021. Picture: NewsWire / Andrew Henshaw Mr Santow said from a safety perspective, the problem for staff confronted by a person armed with a weapon was not whether you could identify them. “Your problem is whether you can get a police or a security guard or something to protect your staff,” he said. “I’m very, very sympathetic to any staff member or anybody else who’s affected, but it’s got almost nothing to with facial recognition.” The human rights lawyer said Australia’s laws surrounding FRT were “pretty vague”, and “don’t set clear rules about when you can and can’t” use it. He said lists of banned or suspected individuals were usually maintained by companies, not “official” databases created by police or government agencies. It’s understood Bunnings used sources such as staff reports, CCTV and police advice to compile its database. This man was captured on camera after entering the Taree store naked last year. Picture: Bunnings Another issue with this type of facial recognition is that error rates were “significantly higher” for people with dark skin, women, those with physical disabilities and young people. “So that actually takes in quite a lot of the community, basically anyone who doesn’t look like me. I’m a white, middle aged man,” Mr Santow said. “It’s pretty accurate for people who look like me, but if you don’t make that description, it’s less accurate, and that means that you’re having the errors cluster, particularly in respect of those sorts of groups where that’s really unfair.” Former Human Rights Commissioner Edward Santow says there needs to be a balance between privacy and safety. Picture: AAP Image/Joel Carrett Mr Schneider said using the technology was “all about safety”, and that it was targeting people who were not the kind “you want your family, your kids around at any time”. “We’ve seen a significant rise in violent and aggressive behaviour towards frontline workers, whether they’re in a Bunnings store, in a fast-food outlet, in a supermarket environment,” he said. “It’s something that as an industry we’ve been working hard to get legislation changed to raise the awareness of this. “The types of people we’re talking about here, no one wants to be around. They’re convicted felons, they’re people who have been identified as perpetrating violent crime.” He said “70 per cent of incidents are caused by the same group of people” and the high volume of customers coming through the doors made it “virtually impossible” to enforce bans. A staff member was pushed to the ground at Greenacre Bunnings in 2018. Picture: Bunnings Mr Santow said there may be a place for FRT in addressing crime, and pointed to the example of the European Union which had recently provided guidelines for its use to agencies. “Our privacy law was passed in the 1980s before the rise of the internet, let alone things like facial recognition technology and it’s dangerously out of date,” he said. “Obviously, my background is as a human rights lawyer, so I care really deeply about the community, but I actually really care about business as well. “Because I think they suffer from the law being so out of date because the rules are not as clear as they need to be.” Consumer group Choice, which brought attention to Bunnings, Kmart and The Good Guys using facial recognition technology in 2022 , said this week’s determination was a “landmark decision”. NEW YORK — New York Yankees star Aaron Judge did it again — and made more history. Judge earned his second American League MVP award, this one unanimously, on Thursday night, claiming it after posting an astounding 218 wRC+, the highest ever recorded by a right-handed hitter in either league. Judge received all 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America to finish with 420 points, well ahead of second-place Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. (270 points). Judge’s teammate Juan Soto (229 points) finished third. Advertisement Judge also won the honor in 2022, when he hit an AL-record 62 home runs. Judge became the seventh player in Yankees history to win multiple MVPs, joining Alex Rodriguez, Mickey Mantle (three times), Roger Maris, Yogi Berra (three times), Joe DiMaggio (three times) and Lou Gehrig. Judge finished the 2024 season with a majors-leading 58 home runs and 144 RBIs, and a slash line of .322/.458/.701. His 11.2 fWAR ranked as the 10th-best single-season performance in franchise history and the 19th-best of all time. The 6-foot-7 center fielder was so dominant that his .701 slugging percentage was higher than the OPS of 11 teams. “It’s greatness right in front of us,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in September while describing Judge. GO DEEPER The best Aaron Judge trading cards to collect Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora in September called Judge’s performance “the best version” of his nine-year career. Judge led MLB in home runs, RBIs, walk rate, ISO, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, wOBA, wRC+, and fWAR. The campaign was statistically better overall than his 2022. He did it while hitting behind Soto, who put up a career year with 41 home runs and is poised to land one of the biggest contracts in free-agent history this winter. Judge also led MLB in Statcast’s run value metric against four-seam fastballs, sinkers and sweepers. Despite facing the highest volume of sweepers among all hitters, he slugged an incredible .816 against the pitch. Over the past two seasons, pitchers have frequently attacked Judge with sliders, hoping he would chase pitches off the plate. In 2024, Judge also faced the most sliders of his career. He responded with a remarkable .984 OPS against all types of sliders. Judge is a perfectionist, constantly seeking ways to refine even the smallest aspects of his game as evidenced by the tweaks he made to his swing this season . Topping his 2024 output will be no easy feat, but if he does, another MVP trophy could bear his name. (Photo: Jason Miller / Getty Images)None
Stocks fall for second dayBAKU, Azerbaijan—United Nations climate talks adopted a deal to inject at least $300 billion annually in humanity’s fight against climate change, aimed at helping developing nations cope with the ravages of global warming in tense negotiations. The $300 billion will go to developing countries that need the cash to wean themselves off the coal, oil and gas that causes the globe to overheat, adapt to future warming and pay for the damage caused by climate change’s extreme weather. It’s not near the full amount of $1.3 trillion that developing countries were asking for, but it’s three times a deal of $100 billion a year from 2009 that is expiring. Some delegations said this deal is headed in the right direction, with hopes that more money flows in the future. But it was not quite the agreement by consensus that these meetings usually operate with and some developing nations were livid about being ignored. COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev gaveled the deal into acceptance before any nation had a chance to speak. When they did they blasted him for being unfair to them, the deal for not being enough and the world’s rich nations for being too stingy. “It’s a paltry sum,” India negotiator Chandni Raina said, repeatedly saying how India objected to rousing cheers. “I’m sorry to say we cannot accept it.” She told The Associated Press that she has lost faith in the United Nations system. Nations express their discontent A long line of nations agreed with India and piled on, with Nigeria’s Nkiruka Maduekwe, CEO of the National Council on Climate Change, calling the deal an insult and a joke. “I’m disappointed. It’s definitely below the benchmark that we have been fighting for for so long,” said Juan Carlos Monterrey, of the Panama delegation. He noted that a few changes, including the inclusion of the words “at least” before the number $300 billion and an opportunity for revision by 2030, helped push them to the finish line. “Our heart goes out to all those nations that feel like they were walked over,” he said. The final package pushed through “does not speak or reflect or inspire confidence,” India’s Raina said. “We absolutely object to the unfair means followed for adoption,” Raina said. “We are extremely hurt by this action by the president and the secretariat.” Speaking for nearly 50 of the poorest nations of the world, Evans Davie Njewa of Malawi was more mild, expressing what he called reservations with the deal. And the Alliance of Small Island States’ Cedric Schuster said he had more hope “that the process would protect the interests of the most vulnerable” but nevertheless expressed tempered support for the deal. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a post on X that he hoped for a “more ambitious outcome.” But he said the agreement “provides a base on which to build.” After tough talks, some feel relief There were somewhat satisfied parties, with European Union’s Wopke Hoekstra calling it a new era of climate funding, working hard to help the most vulnerable. But activists in the plenary hall could be heard coughing over Hoekstra’s speech in an attempt to disrupt it. Eamon Ryan, Ireland’s environment minister, called the agreement “a huge relief.” “It was not certain. This was tough,” he said. “Because it’s a time of division, of war, of (a) multilateral system having real difficulties, the fact that we could get it through in these difficult circumstances is really important.” U.N. Climate Change’s Executive Secretary Simon Stiell called the deal an “insurance policy for humanity,” adding that like insurance, “it only works if the premiums are paid in full, and on time.” The deal is seen as a step toward helping countries on the receiving end create more ambitious targets to limit or cut emissions of heat-trapping gases that are due early next year. It’s part of the plan to keep cutting pollution with new targets every five years, which the world agreed to at the U.N. talks in Paris in 2015. The Paris agreement set the system of regular ratcheting up climate fighting ambition as away to keep warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. The world is already at 1.3 degrees Celsius (2.3 degrees Fahrenheit) and carbon emissions keep rising. Hope that more climate cash will follow Countries also anticipate that this deal will send signals that help drive funding from other sources, like multilateral development banks and private sources. That was always part of the discussion at these talks—rich countries didn’t think it was realistic to only rely on public funding sources—but poor countries worried that if the money came in loans instead of grants, it would send them sliding further backward into debt that they already struggle with. “The $300 billion goal is not enough, but is an important down payment toward a safer, more equitable future,” said World Resources Institute President Ani Dasgupta. “This deal gets us off the starting block. Now the race is on to raise much more climate finance from a range of public and private sources, putting the whole financial system to work behind developing countries’ transitions.” And even though it’s far from the needed $1.3 trillion, it’s more than the $250 billion that was on the table in an earlier draft of the text, which outraged many countries and led to a period of frustration and stalling over the final hours of the summit. Other deals agreed at COP29 The several different texts adopted early Sunday morning included a vague but not specific reference to last year’s Global Stock take approved in Dubai. Last year there was a battle about first-of-its-kind language on getting rid of the oil, coal and natural gas, but instead it called for a transition away from fossil fuels. The latest talks only referred to the Dubai deal, but did not explicitly repeat the call for a transition away from fossil fuels. Countries also agreed on the adoption of Article 6, creating markets to trade carbon pollution rights, an idea that was set up as part of the Paris Agreement to help nations work together to reduce climate-causing pollution. Part of that was a system of carbon credits, allowing nations to put planet-warming gasses in the air if they offset emissions elsewhere. Backers said a U.N.-backed market could generate up to an additional $250 billion a year in climate financial aid. Despite its approval, carbon markets remain a contentious plan because many experts say the new rules adopted don’t prevent misuse, don’t work and give big polluters an excuse to continue spewing emissions. “What they’ve done essentially is undermine the mandate to try to reach 1.5,” said Tamara Gilbertson, climate justice program coordinator with the Indigenous Environmental Network. Greenpeace’s An Lambrechts, called it a “climate scam” with many loopholes. With this deal wrapped up as crews dismantle the temporary venue, many have eyes on next year’s climate talks in Belem, Brazil. By turning sunlight into power, property owners save money on their property bills and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels. It is for this reason that maintaining solar panel cleanliness is important. When solar panels accumulate layers of debris, it hinders their ability to generate electricity. Additionally, dirty solar panels are less attractive and will negatively affect the appearance of any property. Golden State Pressure Washing, [ http://www.goldenstatepws.com ] a local business that provides solar panel cleaning services, [ https://www.goldenstatepws.com/solar-panel-cleaning-company-in-san-jose-ca/ ] understands the processes needed to restore solar panels and shares more knowledge on the subject below. Why Solar Panels Collect Dirt and Debris Solar panels must stay outside in order to collect the maximum amount of sunlight. However, surfaces that stay outside are prone to building up surface debris. This is natural, and this debris can take on many forms, including dirt, dead bugs, bird droppings, pollen, and moss. Natural as this debris buildup may be, though, it can cause negative effects over time. For this reason, it is important to consider cleaning solar panels on a yearly basis. Boosting Solar Energy Output Via Solar Panel Cleaning By cleaning solar panels, residential and commercial property owners can increase their electricity production. The reason for this is simple. The surface area of a solar panel is used to convert solar energy, or "photons", into electrical energy. When surface area is blocked by dirt and debris, these photons cannot be absorbed; thus, efficiency is lost. By gently cleaning solar panels with low-pressure water, this debris can be removed in its entirety. This allows solar panels to achieve their maximum productivity. It is important to clean solar panels with low-pressure water because high-force pressure washing [ https://www.goldenstatepws.com/pressure-washing-company-in-san-jose-ca/ ] can actually cause damage to them. Additionally, it is important to power off solar panels before cleaning them. Golden State Pressure Washing Provides Solar Panel Cleaning Services in San Jose, CA The process of cleaning solar panels can be a big time commitment. Furthermore, it requires a specific set of tools and knowledge, and not everyone has these things at their disposal. For these reasons, Golden State Pressure Washing is proud to provide solar panel cleaning services to the San Jose community. This allows residential and commercial property owners to bring shine back to their solar panels without having to go through the process of cleaning them. Golden State Pressure Washing soft washes solar panels all throughout the community, including those in precarious locations. For example, cleaning solar panels on roofs is a simple affair for the company's team of professionals. Golden State Pressure Washing uses ladders to reach, deactivate, and safely wash these sophisticated pieces of machinery. About Golden State Pressure Washing Golden State Pressure Washing is a small business that proudly provides pressure washing and exterior cleaning services to San Jose, CA [ https://maps.app.goo.gl/Q6ZucLkAyxafaHW67 ] and the surrounding areas.
