Discover which therapies are expected to grab the major Down's syndrome market share @ Down's Syndrome Market Report Down's Syndrome Overview Down's syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. This chromosomal anomaly disrupts normal development, resulting in a range of physical and cognitive differences. The condition is primarily caused by random genetic mutations during the formation of reproductive cells or early embryonic development, though advanced maternal age increases the likelihood of having a child with Down's syndrome. People with Down's syndrome typically exhibit distinct facial features, such as a flattened face, almond-shaped eyes that slant upward, and a small nose. Other common symptoms include developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and a variety of health issues like heart defects, respiratory and hearing problems, and a higher susceptibility to infections. Despite these challenges, many individuals with Down's syndrome lead fulfilling lives with appropriate support. Diagnosis of Down's syndrome can occur prenatally through screening and diagnostic tests, such as blood tests and ultrasounds in the first and second trimesters, or through more definitive tests like chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis. Postnatal diagnosis is typically confirmed by a physical examination and a karyotype analysis to identify the extra chromosome. Early diagnosis and intervention can help address developmental needs and improve the quality of life for individuals with Down's syndrome. Down's Syndrome Epidemiology Segmentation The Down's syndrome epidemiology section provides insights into the historical and current Down's syndrome patient pool and forecasted trends for the 7MM. For some individuals, immediate surgery may be needed after birth to correct heart defects or long-term dietary modifications may be required for digestive concerns. Common interventions include assistive devices such as hearing aids, mobility aids, and adaptive technology to support learning and daily tasks. People with Down's syndrome often face an earlier and more pronounced cognitive decline than the general population. Treatments for Down syndrome-associated dementia (DSAD) may include medications like rivastigmine, galantamine, memantine, and donepezil, which inhibit acetylcholine breakdown, providing notable benefits. Seizure management for those with Down syndrome may involve anticonvulsants like carbamazepine and phenytoin, although these can exacerbate other Down syndrome-related issues. Respiratory problems are also common due to immune deficiencies and respiratory tract abnormalities, often requiring antibiotics or inhaled bronchodilators for effective management. Along with pharmacological treatments, non-pharmacological therapies such as physical, speech, occupational, and behavioral therapies play a vital role in the early development of children with Down syndrome, promoting independence and productivity. Physical therapy aims to improve motor skills, build muscle strength, and enhance posture and balance, laying the groundwork for key abilities. Speech-language therapy focuses on boosting communication skills and addressing physical challenges like low muscle tone to avoid long-term complications. Occupational therapy adapts daily tasks to suit the individual's abilities, teaching crucial skills such as eating, dressing, writing, and using a computer. Emotional and behavioral therapies tackle challenges like frustration from communication barriers, compulsive behaviors, and ADHD by identifying triggers and creating strategies to foster positive behaviors and reduce undesirable ones. The $3.3 trillion company, whose tech has helped drive the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), will launch the next version of compact computers for humanoid robots — dubbed Jetson Thor — in the first half of next year, the Financial Times (FT) reported Sunday (Dec. 29). According to the report, Nvidia is jockeying to become the top platform in what it argues is a coming robotics boom. “The ChatGPT moment for physical AI and robotics is around the corner,” Deepu Talla , Nvidia’s vice president of robotics, told the FT, adding that he believes the market is at a “tipping point.” The FT report noted that this effort comes as Nvidia is expecting more competition for its chips from rivals like AMD , as well as cloud computing titans like Google and Amazon. Now, the company is investing in the “physical AI” space to help the new robotics firms grow. For example, it joined Microsoft and OpenAI in a February funding round that valued humanoid robotics company Figure AI at $2.6 billion . While Nvidia does not break out figures for its robotics product sales, the FT report said that this part of its business represents a smaller share of its revenue. Data center revenue, for example, made up around 88% of the $35.1 billion in sales Nvidia reported in the third quarter . In other robotics/AI news, PYMNTS wrote recently about research at MIT that developed an AI system that could let warehouse robots deftly handle odd-shaped packages and navigate crowded spaces without putting human workers in danger. It’s a breakthrough happening at a moment when retailers and logistics companies are facing increasing pressure to automate amid surging eCommerce demand. Although robots excel at repetitive tasks such as moving pallets, MIT’s PRoC3S technology could finally solve the long-standing challenge of robots safely performing more complex warehouse jobs that usually require human dexterity and spatial awareness. “In theory, PRoC3S could reduce a robot’s error rate by vetting its initial LLM-based assumptions against more specific and accurate understandings of the warehouse environment,” Erik Nieves , CEO and co-founder at Plus One Robotics , told PYMNTS. “Think about it like this: A warehouse robot operating solely on LLM guidance has been described how to complete a task. The PRoC3S concept goes one step further by placing a digital robot in a simulated environment of that task. It’s essentially the difference between classroom instruction and a really good field trip.” As PYMNTS has reported, robotics and AI technologies are transforming traditional distribution yards via specialized autonomous vehicles outfitted with robotic arms that can handle complex tasks such as connecting brake lines and positioning trailers, operating alongside human workers.

Nadra DG sacked over 'fake degree'
The businessman was described as a ‘close confidante’ of Andrew. The Duke of York has said he “ceased all contact” with the businessman accused of being a Chinese spy when concerns were first raised about him. Andrew met the individual through “official channels” with “nothing of a sensitive nature ever discussed”, a statement from his office said. The businessman – known only as H6 – lost an appeal over a decision to bar him from entering the UK on national security grounds. He brought a case to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) after then-home secretary Suella Braverman said he should be excluded from the UK in March 2023. H6 was described as a “close confidante” of The Duke. Judges were told that in a briefing for the home secretary in July 2023, officials claimed H6 had been in a position to generate relationships between prominent UK figures and senior Chinese officials “that could be leveraged for political interference purposes”. They also said that H6 had downplayed his relationship with the Chinese state, which combined with his relationship with Andrew, 64, represented a threat to national security. A statement from Andrew’s office said: “The Duke of York followed advice from His Majesty’s Government and ceased all contact with the individual after concerns were raised. “The Duke met the individual through official channels with nothing of a sensitive nature ever discussed. “He is unable to comment further on matters relating to national security.” At a hearing in July, the specialist tribunal heard that the businessman was told by an adviser to Andrew that he could act on the duke’s behalf when dealing with potential investors in China, and that H6 had been invited to Andrew’s birthday party in 2020. A letter referencing the birthday party from the adviser, Dominic Hampshire, was discovered on H6’s devices when he was stopped at a port in November 2021. In a ruling on Thursday, Mr Justice Bourne, Judge Stephen Smith and Sir Stewart Eldon, dismissed the challenge.Share Tweet Share Share Email Today, with more than 80% of Americans subscribed to a broadband internet service, a life without internet is nearly unthinkable. While the core priorities of connectivity —latency, capacity, and availability—remain constant, the demand for performance has skyrocketed. To understand how businesses can keep up with uncompromising consumer expectations, we turned to Roshin Unnikrishnan , Senior Director of Growth and Revenue Operations at Cisco , who shared his insights on the state of networking and connectivity and what lies ahead for millions of users worldwide. Core Demands Meet New Applications “Most users today, especially those who didn’t experience the early days of dial-up, come with high expectations,” says Unnikrishnan. “And those expectations have quickly become industry standards, pushing the entire industry to adapt.” Applications like autonomous vehicles, remote surgeries, and a massive wave of IoT devices require extremely low latency, measured in milliseconds. At the same time, the explosion of video streaming and hybrid work has driven throughput demands to record levels, while coverage needs have expanded well beyond urban centers. Wi-Fi, however, remains the dominant choice for wireless connectivity, with a staggering 4.1 billion Wi-Fi devices shipped in 2024 alone . “We can confidently call it a staple technology now, and it’s expected to be available and supported everywhere,” Unnikrishnan notes. Wi-Fi’s versatility and ease of use have solidified its role across both consumer and industrial sectors. With Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 expanding into the 6 GHz spectrum, its capabilities are set to stretch even further with multigigabit speeds, low latency, and greater reliability. But, as Unnikrishnan points out, “While expectations keep rising, we need to meet them with robust security. Connectivity without security is pointless.” Rising Expectations and Evolving Industry Standards Heightened geopolitical tensions, corporate espionage, and evolving cyber threats have made network security essential for maintaining both customer trust and business continuity. “‘Securing the network’ used to mean protecting data, but now it’s about preserving relationships and ensuring uninterrupted operations,” Unnikrishnan explains. AI’s role in networking is also transforming the way networks are managed. By 2027, 90% of enterprises are expected to automate network operations using AI capabilities. “It’s streamlining network management and addressing much of the overhead that previously slowed us down. The telecom industry hasn’t hesitated to adopt it,” says Unnikrishnan. AI-driven automation now enables real-time adjustments to changing performance needs, supporting advanced use cases such as autonomous vehicles, extended reality (XR), and edge computing. Unnikrishnan also points to the growing market share of satellite providers like Starlink, which are broadening the definition of connectivity by delivering coverage to underserved areas. “There’s an understanding now that localized networks won’t meet today’s range and density expectations,” he observes. Satellite solutions are bridging gaps in resilience across diverse environments, while homes increasingly leverage mesh networks and hotspots for more consistent coverage. Meanwhile, the data generated by businesses has put new demands on data centers. “Currently, centralization and codependency are the biggest risks in data storage,” Unnikrishnan explains. “But factors like liquid cooling and facility size, as well as global regulations around sustainability, make data centers a complex geopolitical issue as much as an operational one.” He explains that events like mechanical failures or political turbulence can trigger massive outages, highlighting the need for resilient data infrastructure. But some of these changes may need to occur closer to home. U.S. Leadership in Innovation, Standards, and Supply Chain Security Given the competitive global market, connectivity innovation has grown into something bigger than a technology issue. “We’re at a point where innovation in connectivity is a national concern,” Unnikrishnan emphasizes. Sustained innovation is essential to maintain U.S. leadership in connectivity, especially amid rising geopolitical pressures. “For decades, the U.S. has led the development of connectivity standards, but that leadership is at risk if we lose sight of these discussions.” Securing the supply chain for critical hardware components is just as essential. “Controlling the supply chain end-to-end, ideally through nearshoring, helps ensure availability, mitigates many of the dependencies and, consequently, risks,” he notes. “Self-sufficiency will become incredibly important in the years ahead.” Policies like the CHIPS Act represent promising steps toward a resilient supply chain, ensuring local innovation and security for the connectivity infrastructure. What the Future Holds for Connectivity Looking to the future, Unnikrishnan predicts that connectivity demands will continue to rise. “The future of connectivity will introduce new expectations: smarter, more personalized experiences, which require higher throughput and low latency to accommodate user data. But sustainability will also be a priority, and that requires careful planning,” he shares. And as connectivity infrastructure has grown, so has its environmental impact. The carbon footprint of data centers and networking equipment has become a major concern, and future connectivity solutions will need to balance performance with energy efficiency. Sustainability initiatives in connectivity, such as energy-efficient network equipment and low-power data centers, are becoming more mainstream as organizations strive to reduce their carbon footprint. But the effort works in both directions: 5G-enabled technologies are forecasted to contribute 20% towards the U.S.’s 2030 emission reduction targets. Advancements in AI and quantum computing will also reshape network administration . “Network administration is one of the biggest optimization opportunities for AI,” Unnikrishnan explains. Quantum computing, though still in its early stages, has the potential to transform encryption and data processing, laying the groundwork for a more secure and efficient network infrastructure. The Future of Networking & Connectivity Unnikrishnan emphasizes that the evolution of networking and connectivity has implications that reach beyond technology . “Connectivity is often taken for granted—especially secure connectivity,” he explains. “But in an increasingly tense world, that assumption may no longer hold up. We need to consider the potential impact of large-scale disruptions or security compromises, particularly as critical infrastructure in sectors like power, healthcare, and air travel still relies on vulnerable, outdated networks.” To ensure a resilient future, Unnikrishnan calls for policymakers, businesses, and consumers alike to approach connectivity with renewed urgency, recognizing its vital role in both daily life and in building a more secure, interconnected world. CommentsHemant Soren stands vindicated. The Jharkhand Chief Minister who spent months behind bars in alleged corruption cases has emerged victorious in one of the most difficult political battles of his life. The JMM-led coalition is poised to form its government with partners Congress, the RJD and the CPI(ML) without much ado. The Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 not only gave him the opportunity to prove himself innocent, it also pushed the BJP and its politics of alleged vendetta and aggressive Hinduism to the oblivion at least for the time being. After the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the son of “Guruji” Shibu Soren on January 31 this year in an alleged land scam case under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, the political dynamics of the state underwent a change. The JMM accused the BJP and the Narendra Modi-led union government of political vendetta and targeting him for not falling in line. It also raked up the issue of the humiliation of a tribesman insult of the state of Jharkhand. But JMM’s main emphasis was on the planks of development and secularism as it successfully tried to consolidate the tribals and the Muslims. The JMM’s gamble paid off as it staunchly protested against the proposed Universal Civil Code. The BJP tried to break the possible consolidation of the Muslim-tribals votes by assuring that the tribals would be kept out of the UCC. Buoyed on the success of the NRC and the issue of infiltration of Bangladeshis in Assam, the BJP tried to play the trump card in the state of Jharkhand as well, but it failed. The BJP failed to the gauge the impact of this issue and overhyped it. From stalwarts like PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to local leaders, all took additional efforts to raise the issue that millions of Bangladeshis have infiltrated and affected the democracy of the state, particularly that of Santhal Pargana. The saffron party targeted the Muslim community without taking its name and tried to sell the idea that the minority would disturb the demographic balance and dominate in the coming years, an old story it had played in other parts of the country that the Hindus are in danger. The Election Commission slammed the saffron party for posting on its social media sites a video showing a group of men capturing the house of a leader of the party. It wanted to drive the point that the outsiders would capture your house one day. The ploy did not work and the people did not accept what the BJP wanted to say. Similarly, the BJP’s attempt of humiliating the tribal people did not work when it played the card of Champai Soren. After Hemant Soren was released from jail on bail, he became the Chief Minister of the state once again and Champai Soren vacated the seat, but reluctantly and grudgingly. The BJP lapped up the occasion, took Chmpai under its wings with the promise of making him the Chief Minister of the state after the election. However, it backfired. Champai Soren failed to bring his own vote bank to the BJP, he failed to impact his old area of impact- Kolhan. Even his son Babu Lal Soren lost the Ghatshila seat on the BJP ticket to JMM’s Ram Das Soren. All the tricks of the BJP failed, all its cards fell on the ground and the people of Jharkhand voted against the saffron party. Written By Pramode Mallik
On his way out of the White House, President Biden is reportedly making a last-minute plea to Congress for $24 billion in aid for war-torn Ukraine to bolster its military support and replenish US stocks that had dwindled. The White House Office of Management and Budget suggested that Congress could fold the renewed aid into its solution to avert a government shutdown next month, according to a request obtained by Politico Pro . Several lawmakers saw the proposal Monday and it features $8 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative to fund US company contracts to arm Kyiv and $16 billion to refill US weaponry stock, per the report. Already, some Republicans cried foul over the reported ask. “Joe Biden just gave away 4.7 billion in your taxpayer dollars by unilaterally “forgiving” loans to Ukraine. Congress must not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump’s peace negotiations on the way out the door. Any Biden funding demands should be DOA,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) posted on X . Last week, the Biden administration informed Congress of its intention to also forgive $4.65 billion worth of Ukrainian debt. “President Biden will make the case that we do need ongoing resources for Ukraine beyond the end of his term,” National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CBS News’ “Face the Nation” earlier this month. “The threat to Ukraine will remain no matter what exactly happens on the battlefield or at the negotiating table, and the United States should not walk away from its commitment, either to Ukraine or to 50 nations that we have rallied in defense of Ukraine in both Europe and Asia.” US lawmakers last passed a major tranche of aid to the beleaguered ally back in April, nearly nine months after Biden’s first request in August of last year. After the lower chamber wrangled through the $61 billion Ukraine aid, that was nestled in a larger $95 billion package, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) moved to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) Ultimately, Democrats lept to his rescue, but the ordeal underscores the dicey politics of furnishing new aid to Ukraine. That package also entailed about $10 billion in economic loans for Kyiv. Republican fiscal hawks have long grumbled about requests to rubber stamp more spending without deeper reforms. Congress is currently staring down the barrel of a Dec. 20 deadline to avert a government shutdown either through a temporary spending patch or the traditional appropriations process. Biden’s reported entreaty also comes amid uncertainty over the future of the US approach to the bloody war unfolding half a world away in Ukraine. President-elect Donald Trump has crowed about how he could end the bloodshed within 24 hours and has signaled a strong interest in negotiating an end to the conflict. Meanwhile, Ukrainians have been beset by losses on their eastern front as Russia gains ground in the Donbas region . Earlier this month, Biden gave Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky permission to use long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to hit targets deep within Russian territory. That came in the wake of revelations that North Korea had deployed some 10,000 troops to help Russia’s unprovoked invasion of its neighbor. Ukrainians had long pleaded with the US for laxer restrictions on the weapons it was supplied, complaining that the Kremlin was able to stash key military equipment, supply lines, ammunition depots and other critical assets within its territory, off-limits for Ukrainian forces. The Post contacted the White House, Pentagon and Trump reps for comment.Analyzing Provident Financial Services (NYSE:PFS) and Bluegreen Vacations (OTCMKTS:BVHBB)

"Los Angeles is coming off a loss and looking to avoid its third two-game losing streak of the season while hosting the Denver Nuggets. Luckily for L.A., Denver is on the second night of a back-to-back after using up its energy in the 24-point comeback that ended in a three-point loss. The Lakers have opened games with authority averaging 60.6 first-half points per game over the last five (6th) and averaging 51/40/80 shooting splits, ranking top 11 in each. Denver allowed Dallas to score 73 first-half points last night, plus 72 and 56 to Brooklyn and Utah in the lone second night of a back-to-back this season. I grabbed the Lakers First Half Team Total Over 60.5 and would go up to 61.5. With the rest advantage and motivation for Los Angeles against Denver -- I think we see a strong start from the Lakers." ATLANTA—Jimmy Carter, the peanut farmer who tried to restore virtue to the White House after the Watergate scandal and Vietnam War, then rebounded from a landslide defeat to become a global advocate of human rights and democracy, has died. He was 100 years old. The Carter Center said the 39th president died Sunday afternoon, more than a year after entering hospice care, at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, who died in November 2023, lived most of their lives. The center said he died peacefully, surrounded by his family. As reaction poured in from around the world, President Joe Biden mourned Carter’s death, saying the world lost an “extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian” and he lost a dear friend. Biden cited Carter’s compassion and moral clarity, his work to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless and advocacy for the disadvantaged as an example for others. “To all of the young people in this nation and for anyone in search of what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning – the good life – study Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith, and humility,” Biden said in a statement. “He showed that we are a great nation because we are a good people – decent and honorable, courageous and compassionate, humble and strong.” Biden said he is ordering a state funeral for Carter in Washington. A moderate Democrat, Carter ran for president in 1976 as a little-known Georgia governor with a broad grin, effusive Baptist faith and technocratic plans for efficient government. His promise to never deceive the American people resonated after Richard Nixon’s disgrace and U.S. defeat in southeast Asia. “If I ever lie to you, if I ever make a misleading statement, don’t vote for me. I would not deserve to be your president,” Carter said. Carter’s victory over Republican Gerald Ford, whose fortunes fell after pardoning Nixon, came amid Cold War pressures, turbulent oil markets and social upheaval over race, women’s rights and America’s role in the world. His achievements included brokering Mideast peace by keeping Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin at Camp David for 13 days in 1978. But his coalition splintered under double-digit inflation and the 444-day hostage crisis in Iran. His negotiations ultimately brought all the hostages home alive, but in a final insult, Iran didn’t release them until the inauguration of Ronald Reagan, who had trounced him in the 1980 election. Humbled and back home in Georgia, Carter said his faith demanded that he keep doing whatever he could, for as long as he could, to try to make a difference. He and Rosalynn co-founded The Carter Center in 1982 and spent the next 40 years traveling the world as peacemakers, human rights advocates and champions of democracy and public health. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, Carter helped ease nuclear tensions in North and South Korea, avert a U.S. invasion of Haiti and negotiate cease-fires in Bosnia and Sudan. By 2022, the center had monitored at least 113 elections around the world. Carter was determined to eradicate guinea worm infections as one of many health initiatives. Swinging hammers into their 90s, the Carters built homes with Habitat for Humanity. The common observation that he was better as an ex-president rankled Carter. His allies were pleased that he lived long enough to see biographers and historians revisit his presidency and declare it more impactful than many understood at the time. Propelled in 1976 by voters in Iowa and then across the South, Carter ran a no-frills campaign. Americans were captivated by the earnest engineer, and while an election-year Playboy interview drew snickers when he said he “had looked on many women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times,” voters tired of political cynicism found it endearing. The first family set an informal tone in the White House, carrying their own luggage, trying to silence the Marine Band’s traditional “Hail to the Chief” and enrolling daughter, Amy, in public schools. Carter was lampooned for wearing a cardigan and urging Americans to turn down their thermostats. But Carter set the stage for an economic revival and sharply reduced America’s dependence on foreign oil by deregulating the energy industry along with airlines, trains and trucking. He established the departments of Energy and Education, appointed record numbers of women and nonwhites to federal posts, preserved millions of acres of Alaskan wilderness and pardoned most Vietnam draft evaders. Emphasizing human rights, he ended most support for military dictators and took on bribery by multinational corporations by signing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He persuaded the Senate to ratify the Panama Canal treaties and normalized relations with China, an outgrowth of Nixon’s outreach to Beijing. But crippling turns in foreign affairs took their toll. When OPEC hiked crude prices, making drivers line up for gasoline as inflation spiked to 11%, Carter tried to encourage Americans to overcome “a crisis of confidence.” Many voters lost confidence in Carter instead after the infamous address that media dubbed his “malaise” speech, even though he never used that word. After Carter reluctantly agreed to admit the exiled Shah of Iran to the U.S. for medical treatment, the American Embassy in Tehran was overrun in 1979. Negotiations to quickly free the hostages broke down, and then eight Americans died when a top-secret military rescue attempt failed. Carter also had to reverse course on the SALT II nuclear arms treaty after the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979. Though historians would later credit Carter’s diplomatic efforts for hastening the end of the Cold war, Republicans labeled his soft power weak. Reagan’s “make America great again” appeals resonated, and he beat Carter in all but six states. Born Oct. 1, 1924, James Earl Carter Jr. married fellow Plains native Rosalynn Smith in 1946, the year he graduated from the Naval Academy. He brought his young family back to Plains after his father died, abandoning his Navy career, and they soon turned their ambitions to politics. Carter reached the state Senate in 1962. After rural white and Black voters elected him governor in 1970, he drew national attention by declaring that “the time for racial discrimination is over.” Carter published more than 30 books and remained influential as his center turned its democracy advocacy onto U.S. politics, monitoring an audit of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results. After a 2015 cancer diagnosis, Carter said he felt “perfectly at ease with whatever comes.” “I’ve had a wonderful life,” he said. “I’ve had thousands of friends, I’ve had an exciting, adventurous and gratifying existence.” Alex Sanz is a former Associated Press reporter.Unconvincing Canada tops Germany 3-0 at world juniors
