A late-game rally derailed by a missed field goal and Cowboys stun Commanders 34-26Malique Ewin finished with team highs of 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Florida State Seminoles to a 92-59 victory over the Massachusetts Minutemen in each team's final game of the Naismith Hall of Fame Tip-Off on Sunday afternoon in Uncasville, Conn. The Seminoles (6-1) won their third consecutive game and went 2-0 in the event as they pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 36 points. It's Florida State's best start since the 2019-20 season when it went 7-1. UMass (1-5) dropped its fifth in a row following a season-opening win over New Hampshire despite a strong game on Sunday from Jaylen Curry, who scored 17 points. Curry, with six free throws, helped propel the Minutemen on a 10-0 run over a four-plus minute span in the first half to take a 24-23 lead with 4:22 left. FSU closed the half on a 13-3 run to lead 37-27 at halftime. A 15-4 surge to open the second half helped the Seminoles break the game open. Florida State's defense frustrated UMass shooters throughout the contest, especially on the perimeter, limiting the Minutemen to 3-for-24 shooting (12.5 percent) from 3-point range and 18-for-58 (31 percent) overall. The Seminoles finished with 22 points off 17 UMass turnovers. On the flipside, Florida State had one of its best shooting games of the season. The Seminoles moved the ball well throughout the game and finished with 25 assists while only turning the ball over 10 times. The Seminoles shot 33 for 58 (57 percent) from the field and made 9 of 18 three-pointers to put together a season-high scoring output. Once again, Florida State shined thanks to its depth as 10 players scored and four scored in double figures. The Seminoles were able to have 16 players participate in the game as well. Jamir Watkins finished with 14 points while Jerry Deng and Justin Thomas each had 10 points. For UMass, Daniel Rivera finished with 12 points and six rebounds while Nate Guerengomba had 10 points. Daniel Hankins-Sanford collected a game-high 13 rebounds. --Field Level Mediaall slots vip

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Ten yards into a scramble, Patrick Mahomes could have easily slid for a first down or simply ducked out of bounds and moved on to the next play. Instead, the three-time Super Bowl MVP cut back inside and raced another 23 yards up the field, helping to set up Spencer Schrader's 31-yard field goal as time expired as the Chiefs held on to beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday. “At that point, yards are more important than getting out of bounds,” Mahomes said. “With three timeouts, I just tried to just cut through and Justin Watson had a great block and was able to get down the field and get out of bounds.” The game-winning drive was the 21st of Mahomes' career, and the Chiefs won a game decided in the final seconds for the fifth time this season. Eight of the Chiefs' wins have come by one-score margins. “You always want to have some blowouts and be a little calmer in the fourth quarter, but I've always said it could be a good thing when you get to the playoffs later in the season knowing that you have been in those moments before, and knowing how to attack it play by play not making it too big of a moment,” Mahomes said. Then he smiled and said: “But I would say this more than anybody, I would love to win a game not by the very last play.” Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns in his first game at Bank of America Stadium and ran for 60 yards — including 33 on that last-minute play — as the Chiefs (10-1) scored on six of their eight possessions. Noah Gray caught four passes for 66 yards and scored two touchdowns for the second straight week, and DeAndre Hopkins also found the end zone for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Kareem Hunt ran for 68 yards on 16 carries and caught three passes for 19 yards. Bryce Young played well for Carolina (3-8), finishing 21 of 35 for 262 yards and a touchdown while leading the Panthers back from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game on Chuba Hubbard's 1-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion with 1:46 remaining. Panthers coach Dave Canales, who benched Young earlier this season for veteran Andy Dalton, said last year's No. 1 overall draft pick “absolutely” will remain the team's starting QB next week. That's a break from Canales' recent pattern of waiting a few days to name a starter. “Bryce is certainly making the most of his opportunities,” Canales said. “And he is making a statement to all of us. Showing us he can make plays in critical areas. He did a great job extending today.” Said Young: “For me, I just want to focus on what I can control. Regardless, I always have the same mindset and preparation, wanting to be better throughout the week. I am definitely grateful for confidence.” Still, there is room for improvement. The Panthers moved the ball well but struggled in the red zone, resulting in field goals of 30, 32, 29 and 33 yards for Eddy Pineiro, the most accurate kicker in NFL history. The Chiefs wasted no time setting the tone as Samaje Perine returned the opening kickoff 56 yards and Mahomes found Gray for a 35-yard touchdown strike on the third play of scrimmage for a 7-0 lead. Gray went nine games without a TD catch before hauling in two last week against Buffalo. His 11-yard score late in the second quarter gave him two more against the Panthers . Chiefs coach Andy Reid praised Mahomes' poise but said he was concerned about his team's nine penalties for 90 yards. Kansas City's Travis Kelce had six catches for 62 yards and moved into third place in career yards receiving by a tight end. He ranks behind only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten. However, Kelce failed to find the end zone for the ninth time in 11 games this season. Running back Jonathan Brooks made his NFL debut for Carolina, but the second-round pick was limited to 7 yards on two carries. Panthers: Rookie TE Ja'Tavion Sanders was taken to a hospital, where he was evaluated for a neck injury and released . He landed awkwardly on his head after making a catch near the end of the second quarter. Chiefs: Host Las Vegas on Friday. Panthers: Host Tampa Bay next Sunday. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

Nov 25 (Reuters) - England wicketkeeper Jordan Cox has been ruled out of the three-test series against New Zealand after fracturing his thumb in a net session during a tour match in Queenstown. Cox was set to make his test debut in the series opener in Christchurch, which starts on Thursday, as cover for regular gloveman Jamie Smith, who is skipping the tour for the birth of his first child. "I'm gutted for Jordan. He has been shaping up nicely, both with the bat and gloves, since we got to New Zealand," coach Brendon McCullum said in a team statement on Monday. "That's sport, and unfortunately, these things happen. We will get around him and look after him. He is resilient, and his time will come at some point in the future." Ollie Pope took the gloves for Sunday's second and final day of the tour match against the New Zealand Prime Minister's XI and a replacement for Cox will be announced "in due course", the team said. Around half of Aussies find saving money a challenge - recent research shows up to 20 per cent of us are unable to (or choose not to) save at all. or signup to continue reading Are good savers just "born" that way, with an innate ability to manage money well, or do they learn it? There has been a lot of research in this space, and three key areas have a significant impact on your approach. It's true, certain personality traits may mean some individuals find saving easier than others. People who are naturally conscientious, for example, more organised, future-oriented, and self-disciplined - may find this also plays out in their financial habits, like saving. On the other hand, those who pride themselves on being spontaneous and impulsive may struggle with the delayed gratification element of saving. However, at its core, personality comes down to a set of behaviours, and your behaviour isn't set in stone. While some traits may give people a head start when it comes to managing finances, others can learn these skills over time. A person's upbringing plays a crucial role in shaping their financial habits. Children who grow up in households where they're told saving is important are more likely to internalise these behaviours early on. How we see money being handled by our parents or primary caregivers can have an impact on our financial decisions as an adult. If you didn't have exposure to positive habits, you may be more likely to struggle initially. The good news is that saving is a skill that can be learned. Financial education has been shown to positively impact people's saving behaviours, regardless of background or personality. Even if saving doesn't come naturally, you can learn to save with the right tools and mindset. You don't have to read the whole book by James Clear on Atomic Habits (although it is a good one) to know that people can change their habits by setting small, achievable goals and practicing healthy routines. For instance, setting up automatic transfers to your savings account is an easy hack, regardless of how good you are at self-control. In reality, anyone can become a good saver. The combination of temperament, upbringing, and learned habits all influence an individual's saving behaviour - but we're also highly adaptable creatures, and can learn new tricks. LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Austin Seibert missed his second extra point of the game with 21 seconds left after Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin connected on an 86-yard touchdown, Juanyeh Thomas returned the ensuing onside kick attempt for a touchdown and the Dallas Cowboys pulled out a 34-26 victory Sunday that extended the Washington Commanders’ skid to three games. Seibert, who missed the previous two games with a right hip injury, was wide left on the point-after attempt following a low snap. Thomas then took the kick back 43 yards as the Cowboys (4-7) ended their losing streak at five in improbable fashion. Part of that was the play of backup Cooper Rush, who threw for 247 yards and two TDs in his third start in place of starter Dak Prescott. Part was also the defense forcing two turnovers, as Chauncey Golston ripped the ball out of Brian Robinson Jr.’s hands for what was called an interception of Daniels in the second quarter, and Donovan Wilson stripped John Bates midway through the fourth. KaVonte Turpin provided the fireworks with a spinning, 99-yard kickoff return TD seconds after Daniels found Zach Ertz in the end zone and scored on a 2-point conversion to cut the deficit to three with 3:02 left. In the final three minutes alone, the Commanders (7-5) scored 10 points and allowed Thomas’ TD. All that after the score was 10-9 through three quarters before madness ensued. CHIEFS 30, PANTHERS 27 CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 269 yards and , Spencer Shrader kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired and Kansas City beat Carolina to reach double-digit wins for the 10th straight season. Noah Gray caught two TD passes as the Chiefs (10-1) bounced back from last week’s 30-21 loss at Buffalo and won at the buzzer yet again in a season of narrow escapes. for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, who scored on their first five possessions. Bryce Young finished 21 of 35 for 262 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (3-8), who had their two-game winning streak snapped. David Moore had six receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Trailing 27-19, Young completed a fourth-down pass to Adam Thielen to move the chains, then went deep for the veteran receiver, who drew a pass-interference penalty on Chamarri Conner. That set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Chuba Hubbard. LIONS 24, COLTS 6 INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — and David Montgomery added a third touchdown run, leading Detroit to a victory over Indianapolis. Gibbs finished with 21 carries for 90 yards as the Lions (10-1) extended their league-high winning streak to nine straight. Detroit has its been 11-game record since the franchise’s inaugural season in 1934. Jared Goff continued his sensational season, too, completing 26 of 36 throws for 269 yards. The Colts (5-7) lost their second straight home game and for the fourth time in their past five games. with 172 yards while rushing 10 times for 61 yards. the NFL’s highest-scoring offense largely in check Sunday, it was doomed by its inability to finish drives with touchdowns. BUCCANEERS 30, GIANTS 7 EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Baker Mayfield catapulted into the end zone for one of Tampa Bay’s four rushing touchdowns, and the Buccaneers beat the Giants and new starting quarterback Tommy DeVito, snapping a four-game losing streak and extending New York’s skid to six. The Giants’ decisions this week to bench and then release quarterback Daniel Jones did nothing to help the NFL’s lowest-scoring offense. DeVito threw for 189 yards, mostly in the second half with New York well on its way to its sixth straight loss at home, where it is winless. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers dominated in every phase in a near-perfect perfect performance that featured TD runs of 1 yard by Sean Tucker, 6 yards by Bucky Irving and 1 yard by Rachaad White. After recent losses to the Ravens, 49ers and Chiefs, Tampa Bay (5-6) moved within one game of idle Atlanta in the NFC South. Tampa Bay scored on five of its on first six possessions to open a 30-0 lead, and none was more exciting than Mayfield’s TD run with 12 seconds left in the first half. On a second-and-goal from the 10, he avoided pressure and went for the end zone. He was hit by Cor’Dale Flott low and Dru Phillips high around the 2-yard line, and he was airborne when he crossed the goal line. The ball came loose when he hit the turf but he jumped up and flexed — — as the Bucs took a 23-0 lead. DOLPHINS 34, PATRIOTS 15 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Tua Tagovailoa threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns, including two scores to running back De’Von Achane, and Miami routed New England. The Dolphins (5-6) have a thin margin for error the rest of the season but have kept themselves afloat with a three-game winning streak. With their win at New England (3-9) in Week 5, the Dolphins have swept their division rivals in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1999-2000. Tagovailoa, who moved to 7-0 in his career against New England, entered the game with a league-high 73.4% completion rate and went 29 for 40. Backup Skylar Thompson replaced Tagovailoa with about 11 minutes left in what was already a blowout, but a bad handoff on his first play resulted in a fumble that was recovered by cornerback Christian Gonzalez and returned 63 yards for a touchdown. It cut New England’s deficit to 31-15, and Tagovailoa returned the next drive. TITANS 32, TEXANS 27 HOUSTON (AP) — Will Levis threw for 278 yards and his 70-yard touchdown pass to Chig Okonkwo put Tennessee on top in the fourth quarter and the Titans held on for a win over the Texans. Okonkwo grabbed a short pass and rumbled for the touchdown to put the Titans (3-8) up 30-27 with 9 1/2 minutes remaining. Safety Eric Murray missed a tackle that would have stopped him near midfield. The Texans (7-5) had a chance to tie it with less than two minutes remaining, but Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 28-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide left. He fell to the ground after the miss before getting up and slamming his helmet on the field. Titans coach Brian Callahan held both hands in the air and smiled after watching the miss that allowed his team to win on a day it had three turnovers. The Texans forced a three-and-out, but couldn’t move the ball after that and Harold Landry sacked C.J. Stroud in the end zone for a safety to make it 32-27 and allow Tennessee to snap a two-game skid. VIKINGS 30, BEARS 27, OT CHICAGO (AP) — Sam Darnold threw for 90 of his 330 yards in overtime to set up , and Minnesota outlasted Chicago after giving up 11 points in the final 22 seconds of regulation. Darnold threw two touchdown passes, Jordan Addison caught eight passes for a career-high 162 yards and a touchdown, and T.J. Hockenson had 114 yards receiving for the Vikings (9-2), who remained one game behind Detroit in the rugged NFC North. Caleb Williams threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns for the Bears (4-7), who lost their fifth straight. Minnesota appeared to have the game in hand, leading 27-16 with 1:56 left after Romo kicked a 26-yard field goal. But the Bears weren’t finished. Deandre Carter made up for that led to a touchdown in the third quarter with a 55-yard kickoff return to the 40. Williams took it from there, capping an eight-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Keenan Allen. A 2-point conversion pass to DJ Moore made it 27-24 with 22 seconds remaining. The Bears recovered the onside kick and Williams hit Moore over the middle for a 27-yard gain to the 30 before spiking the ball. Cairo Santos made a 48-yard field goal as time expired. BRONCOS 29, RAIDERS 19 LAS VEGAS (AP) — Bo Nix passed for 273 yards and had two touchdown passes to break the team’s rookie record, and the Denver finally won in Las Vegas with a victory over the reeling Raiders. The Broncos (7-5) took another step toward an unexpected playoff spot with their second victory in a row. Las Vegas (2-9) has lost seven consecutive games, its longest skid since the 2017-18 seasons. Nix finished 25 of 42, and his to Sutton in the third quarter broke the club rookie record of 14 set by Marlin Briscoe in 1968. Nix and Sutton later hooked up for a 2-yard TD with 5:30 left to give the Broncos a two-possession lead. Denver lost its previous four games at Allegiant Stadium. This also was the Broncos’ first road win in this series since defeating the then-Oakland Raiders on Oct. 11, 2015. PACKERS 38, 49ERS 10 GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Josh Jacobs rushed for 106 yards and matched a career high with three touchdowns and Green Bay trounced short-handed San Francisco. This marked the first time in the past 55 regular-season games that any individual had rushed for 100 yards against the 49ers. That represented the longest a team had gone without allowing a 100-yard rusher since at least 1955. Justin Fields had rushed for 103 yards for the Chicago Bears against the 49ers on Oct. 31, 2021. Aaron Jones had rushed for 108 yards in the Packers’ to San Francisco last season. All three of Jacobs’ touchdowns came from 1 yard. The 49ers team that took the field Sunday bore only a passing resemblance to the squad that ended the Packers’ 2023 season. SEAHAWKS 16, CARDINALS 6 SEATTLE (AP) — Coby Bryant and Leonard Williams had 2 1/2 sacks as the Seahawks tormented Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, and Seattle beat Arizona to move into a tie for the NFC West lead. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had six catches for 77 yards and the first offensive touchdown against the Cardinals (6-5) in three weeks. But it was the defense that made the difference for the Seahawks (6-5) against their division rivals, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Seattle has won six straight and seven of eight over Arizona. The teams play again in two weeks. The Cardinals averaged more than 29 points per game in their previous three, but the Seahawks held them to 298 total yards and 49 yards rushing while sacking Murray five times. Williams also had four hurries and a pass deflection. Geno Smith threw for 254 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception for Seattle. Murray threw for 285 yards, and tight end Trey McBride had 12 catches for 133 yards. EAGLES 37, RAMS 20 INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Saquon Barkley ran for touchdowns of 70 and 72 yards in the second half and finished with an Eagles-record 255 yards rushing in streaking Philadelphias’ seventh consecutive victory over Los Angeles. Barkley racked up the ninth-most yards rushing in a game in NFL history largely thanks to his huge TD runs bookending the second half. He on the opening snap of the third quarter, and he added with 2:44 to play. had 302 total yards while becoming the first NFL player with two 70-yard TD runs in a game since Maurice Jones-Drew in 2009. Barkley leads the league with 1,392 yards rushing, including a league-best seven 100-yard rushing games in his seismic first season with Philadelphia. While averaging 9.8 yards per carry, Barkley obliterated the Eagles franchise record of 217 yards rushing by LeSean McCoy in 2013. He also had the biggest rushing performance ever against the Rams, exceeding DeMarco Murray’s 253 yards for Dallas in 2011.

NoneThere's no need to check the record books to see that a very considerable amount of snow fell on the city of Calgary Saturday. A look out the window will do. Heavy snowfall expected through weekend across Alberta Eric Van Lochem, an operational meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says Saturday's snowfall amounts vary, depending on which side of the city is being measured and who is doing the measuring. "We did get some unofficial reports in Calgary that were perhaps as high as 25 or 30 cm. A lot of those were sourced from social media reports," Van Lochem told CBC News. "But the Calgary airport itself received 17.8 cm." That was the accumulation recorded for the calendar day of Nov. 23. And that is a new record, beating the previous mark of 13.2 cm set in 2018. "We beat the old record for Nov. 23 by quite a significant margin," Van Lochem said. It was a record-setting day for snow depth as well, with 24 cm of snow measured on the ground Saturday. That beats the old record of 20 cm, which was set in 1966 and equalled in 1996. The snow depth takes into account what was accumulated on Friday as well. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Saturday’s storm is connected to the atmospheric river that hit the coast of B.C. earlier in the week. (Jo Horwood/CBC) According to the Calgary Police Service, in the period stretching between Friday's morning commute and midnight on Saturday, officers responded to 208 non-injury collisions on the city's roads. Another 27 collisions resulted in injuries, all of which were minor in nature. There were an additional 53 hit-and-runs reported with no injuries resulting, and six hit-and-runs with minor injuries. Sgt. Sean Sherman is with the Calgary police traffic response unit. He told CBC News that it had been a long time since he saw a snowstorm as big as the one on Saturday, adding it was fortunate it didn't occur on a weekday, when there would have been much more traffic on the roads. While the collision numbers weren't as high as they could have been because of the reduced volume, Sgt. Sherman says he still saw drivers travelling faster than they should and using the fast lane when they are driving slower. "It just causes a lot more chaos," he said. Sherman says there appear to be fewer tire-related issues during snowstorms lately, something he attributes to a change in habit by Calgary motorists. "I think it's becoming more widely accepted by people to put winter tires on their vehicle," he said. But when it comes to driving in harsh winter conditions, he returns to the basic message Calgarians hear every time there's a major storm — if you don't have to go out somewhere, stay home. In a news release Sunday morning, the city said it did not anticipate the need to call for a snow route parking ban. Spokesperson Chris McGeachy said the city has activated its priority snow plan and the focus for city crews will be on completing maintenance work, including plowing and applying materials on Calgary's busiest routes, like Crowchild Trail, Memorial Drive and Glenmore Trail. Calgarians are asked to ensure sidewalks are clear of snow and ice and to consider helping a neighbour in need by shoveling their sidewalk. (Jo Horwood/CBC) City crews will also focus on clearing pedestrian infrastructure. He asked Calgarians to ensure sidewalks are clear of snow and ice and to consider helping a neighbour in need by shoveling their sidewalk. City bylaws say sidewalks should be cleared 24 hours after snowfall ends. Calgary transit has activated snow detours , which are expected to stay in effect until the start of service on Monday. Meteorologist Van Lochem said Saturday's storm is connected to the atmospheric river that hit the coast of B.C. earlier in the week. "It's all part and parcel of the same weather pattern, if you will, but not the exact same system," he said, explaining that weather systems tend to be torn apart as they cross the Rocky Mountains, before reforming as new low pressure systems on the Alberta side. Van Lochem says it's possible Calgary will see a few more centimetres of snow before the end of the month, but he doesn't see any more significant snowfall amounts in the forecast. "Things are going to quiet down here over Alberta for the next few days, but it's going to remain cold, probably through to the end of November," he said. "For all intents and purposes, this is the start of winter."

Watt famously tweeted a semi-ambiguous spoiler shortly before the award was announced at last season's NFL Honors, which the Steelers star did not attend, simply stating, "Nothing which I'm not used to." Despite TJ being the one shortchanged by the awards ceremony, Myles Garrett waited over nine months to bring his own grudge up on Tuesday as his Cleveland Browns prepare to welcome Watt's Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. Garrett told reporters, "No, he didn't say nothing to me. He's got to apologize to me when I see him," when asked about the Wisconsin native's social media post from February. "I've never complained about the trophy not being in my house and vice versa. He shouldn't be feeling two ways about it going to me," Myles added, "So I'm just going to play the game, I don't play against T.J., he doesn't play against me. But we have a plan to go out and do what we're supposed to: win the game and dominate on defense. But it's up for grabs this year, and we'll see the best man win." When asked about these comments on Wednesday by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review , the four-time Steelers team MVP replied, "I have respect for everybody in the league. Obviously, he's a guy who has been a top pass rusher in the league for a long time. But I don't compete directly against him. It's our team versus their team, and at the end of the day, I just want the Pittsburgh Steelers to come out with a win." In 2023, Watt lead Garrett in nearly every statistical category , including sacks, turnovers forced, tackles for loss, and QB hits. The fact that Pittsburgh's star outside linebacker did not rise to the bait, instead taking the high road by speaking on his respect for every opponent and desire to come out of the game with a win, shows that Watt is focused singularly on Thursday night's outcome rather than drama in the media. The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brazil’s Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) to enhance agribusiness development across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. The agreement, signed at the FGV Headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, focuses on private sector development in fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology, and agricultural finance. The Permanent Secretary of FMAFS, Mr. Temitope Fashedemi, signed on behalf of Nigeria, while the President of FGV, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, represented Brazil. Fashedemi highlighted that the partnership enables Brazil to collaborate with Nigeria’s growing agricultural sector. Together with FGV, we are poised to unlock the potential of private sector investment in key areas critical to our food security,” Fashedemi said. The MoU is linked to the Green Imperative Project (GIP), a $1.2 billion collaborative initiative launched in 2018 to modernize Nigeria’s agricultural sector using Brazilian expertise in tropical agriculture. The Green Imperative Project, supported by Deutsche Bank, will deliver transformative agricultural technologies and capacity-building programs over its 10-year duration. Key goals include: Empowering one local agribusiness in each of Nigeria’s 774 LGAs will receive technical and financial support over the next five years. The project is projected to draw $4.3 billion in private-sector investments in fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology, and agricultural finance. Nigeria aims to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and enhance food production to ensure food security. Professor Leal emphasized Brazil’s commitment, stating, “Brazil is eager to transfer its expertise in tropical agriculture to support Nigeria’s journey towards food security and economic growth.” The Nigerian government’s drive to boost its agricultural sector has gained significant momentum with recent partnerships aimed at transforming the industry. Brazilian meatpacking giant, JBS, has committed $2.5 billion to Nigeria’s livestock sector, while the federal government has also partnered with Mastercard to enhance financial inclusion for farmers across the continent. JBS signed a memorandum of understanding to establish six factories over five years—three for poultry, two for beef, and one for pork production. This investment will also include feasibility studies, budget planning, and the development of Nigeria’s local supply chain. In line with efforts to strengthen food security in Nigeria, the Federal Government is implementing various initiatives aimed at boosting food production and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Honourable Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, outlined several key priority actions during his address. “As part of our focus, we are prioritizing the distribution of agro-inputs to farmers, repositioning agricultural institutions, and fostering deeper engagement between farmers, herders, and local communities,” Kyari explained. The minister also emphasized other collaborative efforts, including the improvement of water resource irrigation systems, soil fertility enhancement, and the development of agricultural information systems. “Additional initiatives include partnering on irrigation projects, strengthening soil fertility and information systems, establishing research institute laboratories, and repositioning relevant universities, faculties, and colleges,” Kyari further elaborated.Rico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title with the Atlanta Braves, dies at 85
