Hours after Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid was formally indicted on multiple charges, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that his party has nothing to do with the matter. The former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) faces multiple offences, including engaging in political activities and violating the Official Secrets Act, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday. The process of field general court-martial (FGCM) was initiated against the retired general under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act on August 12, the army's media affairs wing said. Speaking to Geo News on Tuesday, the central leader of the former ruling party clarified: "The party has already said this that the charge sheet against General (retd) Faiz is an internal matter of the military." The PTI has nothing to do with the issue, said Barrister Gohar, adding: "The military operates under its own rules and regulations, under which it conducts trials." Reacting to General Faiz's arrest, the former prime minister, who was removed from office via a parliamentary vote in 2022, said that an open trial would benefit the country and allow it to prosper. "I demand an open trial of Faiz Hamid with media should be given access to cover it," said the ex-premier on August 21 during an informal interaction with journalists in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail where he has been imprisoned for over a year in different cases ranging from corruption to terrorism. "If the military wants accountability for General Faiz [then] it should proceed and do it," Khan said, asserting that it is the army's internal matter. The former premier welcomed the development, saying that it was good that the army launched the process of internal accountability. However, he urged the military to ensure that the process of accountability should be across the board. In today's media talk, Barrister Gohar also replied to a question regarding the party's recently announced civil disobedience movement, saying that the upcoming anti-government movement is the party's founder Imran Khan's call and it would be discussed with him. It should be mentioned here that the incarcerated party founder on December 6 warned the government of launching a "civil disobedience" movement if his demands, including the judicial probe into the crackdown on party supporters, are not met.Trudeau told Trump Americans would also suffer if tariffs are imposed, a Canadian minister says

Srinagar, Dec 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday promised the revamp of Jammu and Kashmir’s medical facilities. Conducting surprise inspections of premier health institutions in Srinagar to gain firsthand knowledge of the facilities and services being provided to patients and their attendants, CM Omar visited the Bone and Joint Hospital, Barzulla, one of the region’s top orthopaedic healthcare facilities. During his inspection, he toured various sections and wards, interacting with patients and attendants to understand their concerns. Accompanied by Minister of Health, Sakeena Itoo, senior faculty members and doctors, the CM engaged with hospital staff to assess the winter arrangements, treatment facilities, and the availability of medical professionals and paramedics. CM Omar also inspected the state-of-the-art additional block of the hospital, constructed under the Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) with funding from the World Bank. Designed with earthquake-resilient technology, the block will add 160 beds, increasing the hospital’s total capacity from 150 to 310 beds. During his visit, the CM emphasised the need to expedite the completion of the new block, which is critical for addressing the space crunch caused by a fire incident in 2022 that reduced the hospital’s original capacity of 200 beds. He directed the executing agencies to ensure its swift operationalisation by January 2025 to enhance patient care and to dedicate the facility to public service. CM Omar also inspected the 500-bedded Children’s Hospital in Bemina, where he interacted with patients, attendants, and hospital staff. During his visit, attendants from far-flung areas raised concerns about the lack of a Sarai (inn) for their stay. The CM immediately directed the concerned authorities to construct a Sarai to accommodate attendants and alleviate their suffering. The hospital staff highlighted the challenges of expanding super-speciality facilities due to express space constraints. CM Omar assured them that the issue would be addressed on priority. He also promised to resolve the shortage of medical staff, including doctors and paramedics, not only at this hospital but across healthcare facilities in J&K. Furthermore, the CM instructed hospital authorities to ensure the timely availability of medicines and other essential facilities for patients. During the inspections, he reiterated his government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, ensuring better facilities for the public and addressing manpower shortages in health institutions across J&K. The CM was accompanied by Minister of Health Sakeena Itoo, Medical Superintendent of the Children’s Hospital and senior faculty members.
