Sunday, December 8, 2024 Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, participated in the 22nd Doha Forum, underscoring the airline’s dedication to sustainable growth, strategic partnerships, and innovation during a conversation with CNN anchor Julia Chatterley. Held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Forum brought together global leaders, policymakers, and experts to explore innovative solutions to pressing global issues, from security challenges to technological advancements. During the discussion, Engr. Al-Meer highlighted the importance of transformative investments, navigating complex geopolitical dynamics, and capitalizing on opportunities in emerging markets. He also shared insights on Qatar Airways 2.0, a key initiative focused on employee well-being and retention. Additionally, Al-Meer celebrated the airline’s strategic partnerships, spanning regions from Africa to Australia, and the prestigious recognition of Qatar Airways as the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax for the eighth time in 2024. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “I was proud to represent Qatar Airways at this year’s Doha Forum.” “Our increasingly connected world has introduced unique challenges, but has also unearthed new opportunities for cross-cultural understanding, much to the benefit of the aviation industry. Qatar Airways has strong and strategic diplomatic ties across the world and is a key player on the global stage. The demand for our services has remained high during both peak and low travel seasons.” He continued: “With our partnerships in the emerging markets in Africa, the Americas, and India, we have built on our strengths of agility and commitment to sustainable growth to prove time and time again that Qatar Airways remains resilient, nimble, and responsive to change. These qualities are essential for growth in a multi-lateral environment.” “Owing to our new era of Qatar Airways 2.0, dedication to our workforce, and growing investments and partnerships, our airline serves as the optimal case study for thriving businesses in rapidly evolving landscapes.” Qatar Airways delivered a record profit of $1.7 billion in the previous financial year, continuing to strengthen its position by investing in cutting-edge technologies. Notably, it became the first global airline to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet. The airline also expanded its global footprint with the acquisition of a 25% stake in Southern Africa’s regional carrier, Airlink. Additionally, Qatar Airways has received interim approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to engage in co-operative conduct with Virgin Australia under an integrated alliance. This follows the Group’s announcement in October of its intention to acquire a 25% minority equity stake in Virgin Australia from Bain Capital, pending FIRB approval, as part of its commitment to enhancing global connectivity.Taylor Swift fans notice 'heartwarming' Travis Kelce slip up on New Heights podcast READ MORE: Jason Kelce reveals whether he and Kylie want more kids after four By JAKE FENNER Published: 20:08 GMT, 27 November 2024 | Updated: 20:39 GMT, 27 November 2024 e-mail View comments Fans of pop superstar Taylor Swift are in stitches after her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce , accidentally slipped up on the latest episode of his 'New Heights' podcast. Travis and his brother Jason Kelce were discussing their latest movie review - when they recalled one of the first films they analyzed: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, as demanded by a group of Swift's fans. While trying to recall their review of that movie, Travis accidentally fumbled his words - referring to one of the 'Look What You Made Me Do' singer's recent works. 'What did we give, uh, Tortured-,' Kelce said before cutting himself off while he realized he was about to say the name of Swift's latest album, 'The Tortured Poets Department.' '—I mean, not Tortured,' he quickly corrected, laughing under his breath. 'What did we give, uh, Traveling Pants?' Neither brother dwelled on the mistake, but Swift's fans caught it and blew up on social media. Taylor Swift fans pounced on a 'heartwarming' slip up on the latest Travis Kelce podcast episode Kelce accidentally referred to Swift's most recent album, sending her fans into stitches Read More Former NFL star Kroy Biermann takes job at 'rigging and erection' company amid 'messy' divorce 'Travis almost saying tortured poets instead of traveling pants lmfao,' read one post on X, formerly Twitter, while another user commented that it was 'comedy gold.' 'I'm dying at the cuteness of this omg he has her album on his mind, it's so heartwarming,' someone else posted, while another declared it to be 'possibly the cutest thing that has ever happened in the history of forever.' 'Taylor is ALWAYS on his mind and it's absolutely adorable,' another fan gushed, while others joked, 'I also bring up tortured poets in every single conversation I have.' Swift hasn't made any road trips to any Chiefs games this season, choosing instead to attend multiple home games in Kansas City so far this year. With some time off before her final shows in Toronto and Vancouver, it's possible that Swift could be back in KC this week as the Chiefs play a game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday. Kelce's had a sluggish season so far - leading the team in passing yards but is only fourth among tight ends in the league. Major retailers in UK and Ireland pull products associated with Conor McGregorNoneLook to your left. Look to your right. One of those people is about to discover Balatro for the first time . The other has already been secretly playing it every spare moment they get. Balatro was one of 2024's early breakout hits on Steam . Its roguelike twist on traditional poker combined clever deckbuilding mechanics with an incredibly satisfying and click-y presentation. By the summer it seemed like the “just one more round” sensation may have peaked. It now feels like Balatro -pilling has just gotten started. For anyone who hasn’t already played it, Balatro tasks players with using poker hands to score points . Players need to hit certain thresholds to progress, and earn gold for successful rounds that can then be spent on customizing their decks and acquiring powerful jokers that boost how their hands are scored in all kinds of ways. There’s no actual betting, but the constant risk-reward analysis required at every turn provides the stakes and tension associated with real games of chance. After exploding back in February, Balatro ’s second wave began in September. Developer LocalThunk brought the card game to mobile, which turned out to be a perfect platform for chasing rare jokers and high scores. App Magic reported that the game made $1 million in its first week, a small fortune for a $10 game in the App Store world of microtransaction- and ad-fueled free-to-play hits. Then in November, Balatro scored multiple nominations at The Game Awards 2024 , sending the whole thing into overdrive. It was represented not just in the best indie and mobile game categories, but in best direction and debut as well. It even snagged the most coveted prize of all, a 2024 GOTY nod, for five nominations in total. In a testament to both the impact of host Geoff Keighley’s awards show and how small Balatro ’s footprint still was, tons of new players began to take notice. Sales spiked on mobile, with Balatro reportedly raking in $4.4 million since it launched on smartphones and over $727,000 last week alone following the Game Awards 2024 nominees reveal earlier this month. The game has also seen a resurgence in its concurrent player counts on Steam, as well as thousands of fresh reviews on the Valve-owned storefront (where the game is also currently 15 percent off). But Balatro is clearly on the move in the popular gamer conscience as well. A common encounter with the name from a newbie goes like this . Someone who has never heard of Balatro finds out about it. They think the game can’t possibly be that hype and then they give it a try. The next thing they know, it’s all they can think about. Fans new and old have taken to expressing this obsessive quality by posting explanation-less images of the game’s iconic joker face under any mention of the game on social media. Possibly adding to the renewed zeitgeist around the game is a bit of reactionary controversy surrounding its official GOTY nomination. While some players have been griping about Elden Ring ’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC getting a nomination instead of full games released this year like Stellar Blade or Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 , others have been denigrating Balatro as “ just a card game ” or a shallow splash in the mobile pan. It seems like a good bet that Balatro will win at least one prize at the Game Awards, which will raise its profile even further. And deservedly so. Balatro is a masterclass in how a game can get its hooks in a player and then never let go. It helps that LocalThunk has been prodigious with updates the last few months, adding crossovers with popular properties ranging from The Witcher 3 to Dave the Diver . I wouldn’t be surprised if we get at least a couple more before the year is out. Balatro cannot be stopped. .Calls Mount For Removal Of Major College Football Coach After Rivalry Game

Dozens of new laws will come into force after a late-night scramble by the government to tick off most of its to-do list in a single night. There are a few things that didn't survive the rush — election donations, a gambling ad ban, and a national environmental protection agency were the big policies left off the list. But otherwise, the government has given itself clear air to call an election in January, if it wants to. So, all of a sudden, the law is about to be different on several big issues. Some of it was more technical, or helped to support other laws already passed earlier this week. Some of it was pretty major. Here's a round-up of the biggest changes. Tax benefits for developers to build affordable rentals New tax incentives for developers to build apartment complexes that include affordable rentals were passed on Thursday night. Build-to-Rent apartments would offer five-year leases to tenants, with at least 10 per cent of apartments offered as "affordable" tenancies below market rate. Build-to-Rent developers would be discounted on some taxes and the government estimates it will help to build 80,000 new rental homes. As part of Thursday night's wheeling and dealing, the Greens also secured an additional $500 million to upgrade the energy efficiency of public housing through things like new air conditioning, insulation, solar panels and hot water systems. Build-to-rent projects like this one at Denman Prospect in the ACT are popping up across Australia. (Supplied: Capital Estate Developments) Children and teens banned from social media The biggest headline from Thursday night is a ban on children and teenagers under 16 from being able to use social media. It's a massive step taken by the government, one that it hasn't yet tested to see how it will work and has few examples overseas to learn from. The social media giants will have a year to develop age-assurance technologies to implement the ban. Protections for victims of sexual... Jake EvansNonePHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Wednesday she’s suing a for allegedly violating a public nuisance law, contending that its groundwater pumping threatens the public health, safety and infrastructure of local communities in a rural western county. The complaint filed in Maricopa County Superior Court alleges that the pumping at a Fondomonte Arizona, LLC. alfalfa farm has had widespread effects in the Ranegras Plain Basin of La Paz County, harming everyone who depends on basin water by drawing down supplies, drying up wells and causing the ground to crack and sink in some areas. The lawsuit is the latest action by Arizona against foreign companies that use huge amounts of groundwater to grow thirsty forage crops for export because of climate challenges in other countries. Rural Arizona is especially attractive to international businesses because it has no groundwater pumping regulations. The lawsuit alleges that since 2014, Fondomonte has extracted huge amounts of water that accelerated depletion of the basin’s aquifer. The company is a subsidiary of Saudi dairy giant Almarai Co. “We find the allegations of the Attorney General totally unfounded, and we will defend any potential action against Fondomonte and our rights vigorously before the competent authorities,” Fondomonte said in a statement Wednesday. “The company has invested significantly to bring the latest conservation technology and applies environmentally sustainable practices on these long-established farms,” it said. “Fondomonte has continued to develop responsibly during its time farming in the state and the company complies with all state regulations. ” across the West, particularly in states like Arizona, which relies heavily on the dwindling Colorado River. The drought has also made groundwater — long used by farmers and rural residents without restriction — even more important for users across the state. Mayes told reporters Wednesday that the Arizona Legislature has done nothing to fix the groundwater problem despite knowing about the problem for years. “While laws regulating groundwater pumping could have prevented this situation, the legislature’s inaction has allowed the crisis to grow,” Mayes said. “When the legislature fails to protect our most basic resources, the attorney general must step in.” La Paz County Supervisor Holly Irwin, a Republican, commended Mayes, a Democrat, for attempting to address what she described as her community’s “most challenging” concern. “I know that my constituents will be thrilled over this, that somebody is actually paying attention to the real problems here,” Irwin said during Wednesday’s news briefing via a video conference call. Mayes’ lawsuit alleges that Fondomonte’s actions are a public nuisance under a state statute that prohibits activity that injures health, obstructs property use, or interferes with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property by a community. Mayes called the company’s groundwater pumping “unsustainable” and said it caused “devastating consequences” for people in the area. “Arizona law is clear: no company has the right to endanger an entire community’s health and safety for its own gain,” she said. The lawsuit seeks to enjoin the company from further groundwater pumping it says is “excessive” and require that an abatement fund be established. Arizona officials have been targeting Fondomonte for more than a year over its use of groundwater to grow forage crops, by not renewing or canceling the company’s leases in in western Arizona. Some residents there had complained that the company’s pumping was threatening their wells. ___ Gabriel Sandoval is a corps member for the Associated Press/Report for America Statehouse News Initiative. is a nonprofit national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on undercovered issues. The old adage that “speed kills” is ringing true among the world’s fastest roller coasters that have been closing at an alarming rate — but fortunately for thrill seekers a new coaster king will soon arise in 2025. Kingda Ka at New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure — the reigning champ for speed (128 mph) and height (456 feet) — became the latest of the world’s fastest coasters to fall. ALSO SEE: Six Flags to spend $1 billion on 11 coasters over next 2 years Six Flags announced last week that Kingda Ka would be removed and replaced by a new record-breaking launch coaster in 2026. “Kingda Ka has delivered more than 12 million rides since 2005,” Six Flags said in a statement. “What was cutting edge roller coaster technology 20 years ago has been surpassed by more modern advancements.” Four other coasters on Roller Coaster Database’s world’s fastest list are currently “standing but not operating.” That leaves Red Force (112 mph) at Spain’s Ferrari Land as the reigning world’s fastest coaster. Fury 325 (95 mph) at North Carolina’s Carowinds currently holds the title as America’s fastest coaster . The Superman reverse freefall launch coaster will reclaim the U.S. title it hasn’t held in more than two decades when the Magic Mountain ride eventually returns to operation. The Superman: Escape from Krypton coaster closed for repairs in September, according to Magic Mountain officials. A reopening date has not yet been announced. ALSO SEE: Six Flags Magic Mountain plans 21st roller coaster for 2026 The record-setting coaster opened at Magic Mountain in 1997 as Superman: The Escape — tying Tower of Terror at Australia’s Dreamworld as the world’s fastest coaster. The nearly identical Intamin shuttle coasters shared the throne until the 112 mph Dodonpa coaster opened in 2001 at Japan’s Fuji-Q Highland. Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster grabbed the title of world’s fastest coaster in 2003 with a top speed of 120 mph. Kingda Ka became the king of the world when the top hat-style Intamin Accelerator coaster debuted in 2005. Formula Rossa snatched the world’s fastest crown in 2010, but the coaster has been closed since January to repair the launch system — a process that can take a year or more, according to Screamscape . Ring Racer remains an expensive but worthless white elephant — operating for only a few days when it opened in 2013, but still “standing but not operating” to this day. ALSO SEE: Coaster war brewing between Six Flags Magic Mountain and relatively unknown European rival Ferrari World’s Formula Rossa, Cedar Point’s Top Thrill 2 and Magic Mountain’s Superman are all eventually expected to reopen. Cedar Point closed Top Thrill Dragster for the entire 2022 and 2023 seasons after a metal piece flew off the ride and seriously injured a woman waiting in the attraction queue in August 2021. The rechristened Top Thrill 2 replaced the Intamin hydraulic launch system with a Zamperla electro-magnetic propulsion launch system in May — but the ride only operated for about a week before the park closed the coaster again due to mechanical issues. The world’s fastest coaster list will be reshuffled again in 2025 when Falcon’s Flight debuts at Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia. Falcon’s Flight will become the world’s fastest coaster at a blistering 155 mph — 6 mph faster than Formula Rossa’s top speed of 149 mph.Rising Pistons Combine Defense, Grit For Promising Young Team
