Greenfire Resources Announces Reconstitution Of The Company's Board Of Directors, Acquisition Of Additional Greenfire Securities By WEF And Continuation Of The Strategic Review
By Clarissa-Jan Lim Former Rep. Matt Gaetz , whose political career was dramatically upended in the past month, has lined up a new gig as a political talk show host on the conservative One America News Network (OAN). The network, announced on Tuesday that “The Matt Gaetz Show” will run every weeknight starting in January 2025. Gaetz will also begin co-hosting a podcast with OAN’s Dan Ball, which will cater to a younger audience next year, the network said. Gaetz’s pivot to right-wing talk show host is not totally out of left field; the former congressman has a reputation for pushing baseless claims about the Jan. 6 attack , insulting his opponents, and stirring up drama with his colleagues . News of his latest gig follows a tumultuous few weeks in his career. In mid-November, President-elect Donald Trump sent shockwaves throughout Washington, D.C., when he announced he would nominate the Florida Republican as his attorney general. Gaetz, who was being investigated by the House Ethics Committee at the time, abruptly resigned from Congress after Trump's announcement, effectively ending the panel’s jurisdiction over him. But the ethics investigation remained an issue for Gaetz, and his former House colleagues were divided along party lines about whether or not to release the ethics report on the probe. (A separate Justice Department investigation into allegations that Gaetz engaged in sex trafficking ended last year without any charges being brought against him. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing.) As the pressure over the report’s release grew, Gaetz withdrew from consideration for attorney general . He subsequently said he would not join the new Congress , despite having easily won re-election in November. Gaetz has not appeared to have completely abandoned his political aspirations, however. He has amplified a follower’s suggestion on social media that he run for governor of Florida, even though he has publicly denied that he was interested in the position. In the meantime, Gaetz seems intent on staying in the spotlight, judging by his recent moves. Aside from his upcoming job as a talk show host, he joined the platform Cameo two weeks ago, making personalized videos for fans for hundreds of dollars apiece. Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, he drew attention to the reduction in violence and insurgency in the region, attributing it to historic peace agreements and efforts to resolve border disputes. "Thousands of young people have abandoned the path of violence and embraced the path of development. Incidents of violence have significantly decreased, and many districts have been removed from the list of disturbed areas," he said. Modi said, "For years, development in the northeast was sidelined due to a focus on vote-based politics. This govt has reversed that trend, investing over Rs 5 lakh crore in the region over the past decade, a figure unmatched in previous decades." "In the last 10 years, nearly 5,000 km of national highways have been completed. Rail connectivity has increased manifold, and the first Vande Bharat train in the northeast has started running. Projects like the Sela Tunnel and the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway are expanding connectivity." He said the mahotsav is not just a celebration, but an opportunity for the entire world to witness the strength and diversity of the northeast, a region, which, he said, plays a pivotal role in shaping India's future. It is a celebration of the northeast's promising future and a new dawn of development that will accelerate India's mission of becoming a developed nation, he added. Addressing an audience that included artisans, investors and dignitaries, as well as CMs of the NE states, Modi underscored the pivotal role the region plays in shaping India's future. "After the West-centric era, the 21st century belongs to the East, to Asia, and to India. In this context, I firmly believe that the future of Mother India lies in eastern India, in our northeast," he said, as he highlighted the shift in focus from India's western cities to emerging hubs in the northeast. He expressed confidence that cities like Guwahati, Imphal, and Shillong will define the next chapter of India's growth story. The event showcases the region's textiles, traditional craftsmanship, tourism avenues, and unique GI-tagged products. Modi lauded the cultural and economic significance of the northeast, likening its eight states to the eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - South Korean lawmakers are set to vote later Saturday on impeaching President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived attempt to impose martial law, as protests grew nationwide calling for his removal. But it appeared more likely after the leader of Yoon's own party on Friday called for suspending his constitutional powers, describing him as unfit to hold the office and capable of taking more extreme action, including renewed attempts to impose martial law. Impeaching Yoon would require support from 200 of the National Assembly's 300 members. The opposition parties that jointly brought the impeachment motion have 192 seats combined. That means they would need at least eight votes from Yoon's People Power Party. On Wednesday, 18 members of the PPP joined a vote that unanimously canceled martial law 190-0 less than three hours after Yoon declared the measure on television, calling the opposition-controlled parliament a "den of criminals" bogging down state affairs. The vote took place as hundreds of heavily-armed troops encircled the National Assembly in an attempt to disrupt the vote and possibly to detain key politicians. Parliament said Saturday that it would meet at 5 p.m. It will first vote on a bill appointing a special prosecutor to investigate influence peddling allegations surrounding Yoon's wife, and then on impeaching Yoon. The turmoil resulting from Yoon's bizarre and poorly-thought-out stunt has paralyzed South Korean politics and sparked alarm among key diplomatic partners, including neighboring Japan and Seoul's top ally the United States, as one of the strongest democracies in Asia faces a political crisis that could unseat its leader. Opposition lawmakers claim that Yoon's martial law declaration amounted to a self-coup and drafted the impeachment motion around rebellion charges. The PPP decided to oppose impeachment at a lawmakers' meeting, despite pleas by its leader Han Dong-hun, who isn't a lawmaker and has no vote. Following a party meeting on Friday, Han stressed the need to suspend Yoon's presidential duties and power swiftly, saying he "could potentially put the Republic of Korea and its citizens in great danger." Han said he had received intelligence that during the brief period of martial law Yoon ordered the country's defense counterintelligence commander to arrest and detain unspecified key politicians based on accusations of "anti-state activities." Hong Jang-won, first deputy director of South Korea's National Intelligence Service, later told lawmakers in a closed-door briefing that Yoon called after imposing martial law and ordered him to help the defense counterintelligence unit to detain key politicians. The targeted politicians included Han, opposition leader Lee Jae-myung and National Assembly speaker Woo Won Shik, according to Kim Byung-kee, one of the lawmakers who attended the meeting. The Defense Ministry said it had suspended the defense counterintelligence commander, Yeo In-hyung, who Han alleged had received orders from Yoon to detain the politicians. The ministry also suspended Lee Jin-woo, commander of the capital defense command, and Kwak Jong-geun, commander of the special warfare command, over their involvement in enforcing martial law. Former Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun, who has been accused of recommending Yoon to enforce martial law, has been placed under a travel ban and faces an investigation by prosecutors over rebellion charges. Vice Defense Minister Kim Seon Ho, who became acting defense minister after Yoon accepted Kim Yong Hyun's resignation on Thursday, has testified to parliament that it was Kim Yong Hyun who ordered troops to be deployed to the National Assembly after Yoon imposed martial law. Deadly protests erupted when the preliminary results wereannounced at the time. Venâncio Mondlane, who came second, has been calling on hissupporters since the election to demonstrate against what he said was a riggedvote. On Monday, protesters could be heard chanting his name, burning tyres, barricading roads and throwing stones at police. The securityforces have responded with tear gas. Mondlane, himself, is in exile. In a weekend social media message, he said there could be a"new popular uprising" if the result was not overturned. While maintaining that the candidate of the governingparty, Frelimo, had won the election, the constitutional court revised hismargin of victory downwards. Initial results in October said the victor gained a 71%share of the vote to Mondlane's 20%. The court has now ruled that Chapo won 65%to his main rival's 24%. A California man confessed to helping the North Korean regime prepare for an attack in a “sophisticated scheme” to illegally obtain restricted weapons and military grade technology, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday. Shenghua Wen, a Chinese national residing unlawfully in Ontario, California, conspired with North Korean officials to obtain prohibited items before traveling to the US as a student in 2012, the Justice Department alleged in a criminal complaint. Wen, who allegedly overstayed his visa and remained in the U.S. illegally, was arrested Tuesday by the FBI. Download the CTV News App for breaking news alerts and video on all the top stories During interviews with the FBI, Wen said “he believed the North Korean government wanted the weapons, ammunition, and other military-related equipment to prepare for an attack against South Korea,” according to the complaint, which adds the North Korean government paid Wen US$2 million to obtain the items. In addition to weapons and equipment, Wen told investigators the North Korean regime also tasked him with obtaining military uniforms in the US, which “would subsequently be used by the North Korean military to disguise their soldiers to conduct a surprise attack on South Korea,” the complaint states. Thousands of U.S. military personnel are stationed in South Korea to help bolster security and stability in the region. Justice Department officials said the arrest was unrelated to Tuesday’s internal political turmoil amid a declaration of martial law and clashes outside South Korean parliament. Prosecutors allege Wen established an export company in Texas, where firearms and ammunition were procured and transported to the Los Angeles area, then ultimately packed in cargo containers bearing fake inventory manifests for shipment to North Korea as recently as 2023. While executing a search warrant at Wen’s home, authorities seized 50,000 rounds of ammunition, sophisticated chemical detection equipment, and a tool used for detecting listening devices, which Wen allegedly said he intended to also ship to North Korea. During a search of his cell phone, the FBI discovered numerous messages “between Wen and several (North Korean) co-conspirators with images of firearms and electronic devices,” the complaint states. “There is no telling what additional damage Mr. Wen could have committed if not for the intervention of law enforcement,” said US Attorney Martin Estrada during a news conference Tuesday. Follow the CTV News channel on WhatsApp CNN is attempting to locate attorney information for Wen. If convicted of violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, he faces up to 20 years in prison, Estrada said. “The consequences of these actions cannot be overstated when technology and sensitive items fall into the wrong hands, especially those of hostile nations,” said Shawn Gibson, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations. Akil Davis, head of the FBI’s Los Angeles division, said: “Not only did the investigative team prevent additional restricted items going to the North Korean regime, but they gathered valuable intelligence for the United States and our allies.”
