The event, running from December 12 to December 18, celebrates Qatar’s rich cultural heritage while showcasing locally produced food and non-food items. Since its debut in 2010, the festival has grown into a key event across all LuLu outlets, underscoring the retailer’s commitment to supporting small Qatari businesses and entrepreneurs. The initiative highlights a wide range of locally sourced goods, from fresh produce, dairy, and meats to health and beauty products, linens, and more. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Saud Al Marri from the Food Security Department at the Ministry of Municipality, Ahmed Al Yafei from the Agricultural Affairs Department, Fardan Al Fardan, General Manager of Safwa Farm, and Mohammed Ismail Al Mohammed, General Manager of Mahaseel Company. Also present was Dr Mohamed Althaf, Global Director of LuLu Group, alongside senior officials from LuLu management and distinguished representatives from both public and private sectors. He said, “Qatar has made remarkable strides in strengthening its agricultural capabilities and enhancing food security. This initiative not only celebrates the nation’s agricultural progress but also showcases high-quality, pesticide-free products that reflect Qatar’s growing self-sufficiency.” Over the past eight years, Qatar’s agricultural sector has made significant strides, now meeting 80 percent of the nation’s food requirements. This achievement is attributed to the adoption of modern farming technologies and sustainable agricultural practices, which have boosted both the quantity and quality of local produce. Althaf further emphasised the festival’s role in promoting local farming traditions, stating, “This festival is a celebration of Qatar’s agricultural heritage, connecting consumers with the nation’s rich farming traditions and ensuring the preservation of knowledge passed down through generations.” The festival features over 300 locally produced items from 35 Qatari farms, including renowned brands like Baladna, Safwa Farm, Agrico Qatar, Dandy, and Al Maha, among others. These products demonstrate the country’s increasing self-sufficiency in food production, particularly in short-life perishables, which can now be supplied within a two-to-three-day window, ensuring continuous availability of fresh produce. LuLu Hypermarket has played a pivotal role in supporting Qatar’s agricultural sector, helping to market local produce and contribute to the nation’s food security and sustainability goals. The retailer’s long-standing partnerships with Qatari farmers have created a sustainable supply chain that benefits both consumers and local entrepreneurs. This year’s festival also invites visitors to explore Qatar’s culture, traditions, and culinary heritage. It is an opportunity for shoppers to support local businesses while experiencing the nation’s agricultural progress firsthand. ( MENAFN - IANS) Seoul, Dec 16 (IANS) South Korea's Semiconductor exports face growing threats from China, Taiwan and Malaysia amid intensifying global competition in advanced industries, an industry report showed on Monday. The report from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, better known as KOTRA, on the export similarity index (ESI) for semiconductors showed China as being South Korea's top competitor in the sector, with an ESI score of 72.2 in the third quarter of the year. Taiwan's ESI with South Korea in semiconductors rose significantly, increasing 7.6 points over four years to reach 32.5, the largest growth among major semiconductor exporters, reports Yonhap news agency. Malaysia's ESI increased 6 points to 50.5 over the same period, marking the second-highest growth after Taiwan. KOTRA noted that Malaysia has emerged as a notable competitor, ranking fifth globally in semiconductor exports and handling 13 per cent of the world's semiconductor assembly, testing and packaging processes. The report highlighted concerns that South Korea's failure to secure a technological edge over competitors could weaken its export competitiveness in the sector. "This is a critical time to leverage technological strengths to expand South Korea's market share in export sectors," KOTRA said in the report, adding, "South Korean firms must urgently prepare strategies to strengthen their export competitiveness." Meanwhile, South Korea's exports grew 12.4 per cent from a year earlier in the first 10 days of this month on strong shipments of semiconductors, data showed on Wednesday. Outbound shipments reached $17.6 billion in the December 1-10 period, compared with $15.6 billion tallied a year earlier, according to the data from the Korea Customs Service. Imports gained 11.6 per cent on-year to $19.1 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $1.55 billion. Adjusted for the number of working days, daily average exports increased 5 percent on-year to $2.34 billion, the agency said. This year's period included 7.5 working days, compared with 7 working days over the same timeframe last year. "Our exports continue to show upward momentum as both the total and daily average exports have increased compared to the same period last year," said Jo Eek-no, director general for international trade policy at the industry ministry. Exports of semiconductors surged 43 per cent on-year to $3.61 billion over the cited period. -IANS na/ MENAFN15122024000231011071ID1108995780 Legal Disclaimer: MENAFN provides the information “as is” without warranty of any kind. I really don’t care as long as we get the best players, we get the most that we can, I’m happy with whatever,” Judge said Friday, a day after he was a unanimous winner of his second AL MVP award. “That's never been something on my mind about who gets paid the most.” Judge led the major leagues with 58 homers, 144 RBIs and 133 walks while hitting .322 as New York reached the World Series for the first time since 2009, only to lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers . Soto batted .288 with 41 homers, 109 RBIs and 129 walks in his first season with the Yankees and finished third in MVP voting, also trailing Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt. Jr. A free agent at 26, Soto has met with the Yankees, Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, and he plans to meet with the Philadelphia Phillies, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the meetings have not been publicly announced. Negotiations are not likely to intensify until after Thanksgiving. Judge hasn’t spoken with Soto since the World Series. Judge went through the free-agent experience after hitting an AL record 62 homers in 2022. “The best thing is to really give those guys space," Judge said. "I talked to him all season and he knows how we feel about him and I think the most important thing is now let him do his thing with his family, pray about it, talk with people and come to the right decision for him and his family.” Soto met with Yankees officials on Monday at a hotel in southern California, a group that included owner Hal Steinbrenner, team president Randy Levine, general manager Brian Cashman, manager Aaron Boone and senior adviser for baseball operations Omar Minaya. “We had a good meeting. It was a very honest back-and-forth dialogue, a couple hours long,” Steinbrenner said Wednesday. Asked how confident he was about keeping Soto, Steinbrenner said: “No idea. We’ll be in the mix. I’ll leave it at that.” Soto and Judge filled the Nos. 2 and 3 slots in the Yankees batting order in a franchise-record 153 games, topping the 145 of Joe Dugan and Babe Ruth in 1923, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. “I get to see a lot of pitches," Judge said. "He's going to be a tough at-bat in front of me. He’s going to wear down the pitcher right there in the first inning, within the first 15 pitches or so. Yeah, I think that was a big impact just having having a guy like that in front of you. "If I could have eight Juan Sotos in the lineup with me, I would love that.” After the World Series, Judge spent about a week in Tampa, Florida, where the Yankees hold spring training, and met with Steinbrenner. “We kind of just discussed a lot of things from Juan to other guys that are kind of out there that I think could definitely help this team,:" Judge said. "So I kind of just gave my input on a couple things.” Judge said when he agreed to his big deal in late 2022, Steinbrenner wanted to have a deeper relationship. They've been meeting every week or two, and pitcher Gerrit Cole has developed a similar exchange with the owner. “I think just having that relationship to where I can kind of communicate with him about what I’m seeing, what I’m feeling, what I see with the guys, what I see against other guys that we play against,” Judge said. “I think it’s a cool part to where I think just the more communication you have from top to bottom, it just — it makes everybody better.” Judge's contract is baseball's fourth largest behind the deals of the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani ($700 million), the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout ($426.5 million) and the Dodgers' Mookie Betts ($365 million). Judge cited the example of teammate Giancarlo Stanton, whose $325 million deal was the highest when he joined the Yankees ahead of the 2018 season but now ranks tied for ninth. “Even though he signed one of those — the first big mega-contracts back in Miami, once he came here he didn’t care about the highest-paid guy. He just wanted good players around him,” Judge said. In joining Mickey Mantle in 1956 as the Yankees' only unanimous MVPs, Judge credited his teammates. “You look at every single one of my teammates in that room and know that each and every single one of them impacted me in a way that put me in that position,” Judge said. “So it’s always going to be a team award in my book.” ___ AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB Ronald Blum, The Associated Press

Engineering technologists in the Town of Sussex are using a drone to help collect topographical data and pictures to help fast-track survey work for flood mitigation infrastructure. The light detection and ranging drone uses light, invisible to the human eye, to measure the distance and position of objects in its path. That data is later used to create maps and 3D models of that location. "We're able to filter out vegetation and buildings and other obstructions and get the true earth surface," Mike Allen said, the drone's pilot and a senior technologist with Gemtec Consulting, a New Brunswick engineering consultancy that helps conduct geotechnical, material and environmental tests and surveys. Accurate topographical data in turn helps engineers and technicians to make better design decisions, he said Mike Allen, an engineering technologist, says he's been able to collect more accurate data using his drone than if he'd done it manually. (Rhythm Rathi/CBC) Allen said his drone can pick up millions of data points in an hour, mapping large construction sites, while the same work would take weeks to be completed manually by a surveyor using a hand-held GPS data collector. "I do a lot of the post processing and design work in the office afterwards and when you have [the drone] data, you know what you're dealing with. There's no second guessing what's actually there," he said. WATCH | Data collected by drone could help control floods faster: Drone helps Sussex speed up work to reduce impact of future floods 42 minutes ago Duration 3:35 A drone is collecting topographical data to help fast track a surveying process that’s essential for designing flood mitigation infrastructure in Sussex. Allen said his colleague also collects specific data points manually, such as hydro poles, fire hydrants and culvert inlets, as a backup. "If a car is passing over a manhole, we might not see that in the [drone] survey, but we collect that information as a due diligence and accuracy check as well," he said. The drone surveys the land topography, collecting data and pictures using lasers, invisible to human eye, says Allen. (Rhythm Rathi/CBC) Scott Hatcher, the town's chief administrative officer, said this latest technology helps the town to fast-track the process of building flood mitigation infrastructure. The town has had major flooding over a number of years, including in 2014, 2019 , 2020 , 2022 and early 2024 . Hatcher said building the infrastructure in a timely fashion is important to protect the residents from any further loss. "The data would be used in several projects to make the overall strategy happen. And we're using the technology to speed up the process of the data collection and allowing our engineers to get to work sooner." Scott Hatcher, chief administrative officer for Sussex, says the flood mitigation project is expected to cost more than $38 million, paid for by all three levels of government. (Rhythm Rathi/CBC) Sussex is building a flow-diversion channel at the town's eastern limits, another such channel on Parsons Brook and storm-water infrastructure upgrades in the town's northeast and northwest corners, including two overpasses and a new berm in and around the Meadow Crescent area, Hatcher said. The first project in the plan — a $1.2-million berm behind Gateway Mall — was completed in 2019 . Hatcher has said the project is expected to cost more than $38 million , paid for by all three levels of government. But the Meadow Crescent berm will cost an additional $2.1 million, equally divided between the province and the town. "Within the next couple of weeks, you'll see a public tender to construct a $2.1-million berm to protect 85 homes in that subdivision. That work we believe could be completed by late summer 2025 and would provide immediate effective control of adverse flooding in that neighborhood," he said, adding that the plan is to complete the larger project by the end of 2028. Kurtis Carter and Kassandra Chudiak moved to Sussex in late 2022 and have had their property flood about 10 times so far. Carter said they will directly benefit from the upcoming Meadow Crescent berm. (Rhythm Rathi/CBC) Kurtis Carter, who lives in the flood-prone area of Meadow Crescent, will benefit from the berm. He said his family moved to the area in 2022 and has experienced "probably in total around 10 flooding events," with the last one leaving four feet of water in their basement. He's grateful that work on the infrastructure is happening, as his neighbours have experienced flooding for more than a decade. "They used to enjoy the sound of rain and now they kind of dread it," Carter said. "So ... if we could get back to a point where you enjoy the sound of rain hitting your roof and knowing that it's not going to be in the basement, then I think that's a wonderful thing." Elmer Cole of Sussex says he faces erosion in his backyard every time his neighbourhood floods. (Rhythm Rathi/CBC) Elmer Cole, who lives a few away houses from Carter, has had erosion on his property. "I lose about five feet every time it floods," said Cole, pointing to a large hole in his backyard. He has lived in the same house for 37 years and has been fighting floods for over three decades, he said. Sussex Resident Elmer Cole loses about five feet of top soil from his backyard in each flood, he says. (Rhythm Rathi/CBC) He said the town's mitigation plan gives him hope that it could provide the best fix for his neighbourhood's extreme flooding. "They're going to do it right. I know they are, because the berm is going all the way up and across by the elementary school," he said. "Hopefully it'll hold the water back."Faruqi & Faruqi Reminds Flux Power Investors Of The Pending Class Action Lawsuit With A Lead Plaintiff Deadline Of December 31, 2024 – FLUX

The billing of London-born former Chelsea boss Hayes against England’s Dutch manager Sarina Wiegman – arguably the best two bosses in the women’s game – had generated more buzz in the build-up than the players on the pitch, despite it being a rare encounter between the two top-ranked sides in the world. Hayes enjoyed her return to familiar shores but felt the US lacked the “killer piece” after they looked the likelier side to make the breakthrough. Elite meeting of the minds 🌟 pic.twitter.com/R4d8EArqTp — U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) November 30, 2024 Asked what was going through her mind during the national anthem, Hayes said: “I was definitely mouthing (it), and Naomi (Girma) and Lynn (Williams) could see that I was struggling with where to be and all that. “I got to the end of the anthems and I thought, ‘that’s so ridiculous. I’m proud to be English and I’m proud of our national anthem, and I’m also really proud to coach America’. “Two things are possible all at once. I don’t want to fuel a nationalist debate around it. The realities are both countries are really dear to me for lots of reasons, and I’m really proud to represent both of them.” The Lionesses did not register a shot on target in the first half but grew into the game in the second. US captain Lindsey Horan had the ball in the net after the break but the flag was up, while Hayes’ side had a penalty award for a handball reversed after a VAR check determined substitute Yazmeen Ryan’s shot hit Alex Greenwood’s chest. Hayes, who left Chelsea after 12 trophy-packed years this summer, said: “I’ve been privileged to coach a lot of top-level games, including here, so there’s a familiarity to being here for me. “It’s not new to me, and because of that there was a whole sense of I’m coming back to a place I know. I have a really healthy perspective, and I want to have a really healthy perspective on my profession. “I give everything I possibly can for a team that I really, really enjoy coaching, and I thrive, not just under pressure, but I like these opportunities, I like being in these situations. They bring out the best in me. “You’ve got two top teams now, Sarina is an amazing coach, I thought it was a good tactical match-up, and I just enjoy coaching a high-level football match, to be honest with you. I don’t think too much about it.” Hayes had travelled to London without her entire Olympic gold medal-winning ‘Triple Espresso’ forward line of Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith, all nursing niggling injuries. Before the match, the 48-year-old was spotted chatting with Wiegman and her US men’s counterpart, fellow ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was also in attendance. England were also missing a number of key attackers for the friendly including Lauren Hemp, Lauren James and Ella Toone, all ruled out with injury. She said: “I think we were really defending as a team, very strong. We got momentum in the second half, we did better, and of course both teams went for the win. “So many things happened in this game, also in front of the goal, so I don’t think it was boring. “We wanted to go for the win, but it was such a high-intensity game, you have to deal with a very good opponent, so you can’t just say, ‘Now we’re going to go and score that goal’. “We tried, of course, to do that. We didn’t slow down to keep it 0-0. I think that was just how the game went.”
