The Bears (8-4, 6-3 Big 12) scored touchdowns on three consecutive possessions in the first half to take a 21-7 lead, then found the end zone on all three of their drives in the third quarter. Bryson Washington ran for 192 yards on 27 carries that included a 10-yard TD run and punching in from the 1 in the second half for Baylor. Kansas (5-7, 4-5) entered on a three-game winning streak — all against ranked teams — to be in position for bowl eligibility with a win. But the Jayhawks had no answers for Baylor’s offensive. Baylor, which started 0-3 in league play, had to wait for the outcomes of games later Saturday. Arizona had to beat Arizona State, Kansas State had to beat Iowa State and Houston had to beat BYU for the Bears to get into next week's conference title game. Robertson was 23-for-31 passing, with TDs of 36- and 39-yards to Monaray Baldwin in the first quarter before a 14-yard score to Josh Cameron in the second. Baldwin caught seven passes for 119 yards, and Cameron added eight receptions for 102. Devin Neal ran for 133 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for Kansas. Jalon Daniels was 12-of-23 passing for 280 yards passing, and had two passes intercepted by Baylor safety Devyn Bobby. Kansas: The Jayhawks rarely had issues moving the ball in the first half. Despite trailing 21-10 at intermission, the Jayhawks had outgained Baylor 301-283. Their problems came with holding onto the ball and scoring when they had the chance. Tabor Allen missed a 38-yard field goal to end the Jayhawks’ first possession, and they had promising drives end on a Daniels interception and Tevita Noa fumble after a 39-yard reception. Baylor: The Bears made a remarkable turnaround in the second half of the season. They began the year with coach Dave Aranda’s future considered tenuous at best, and a 2-4 start only made calls for him to be replaced louder. But Aranda and Baylor haven’t lost since Oct. 5 against Iowa State. Kansas’ season is over. Baylor had to wait to see when and where it will play its next game. A history of the Panama Canal — and why Trump can’t take it back on his own
Drake Maye spoke up in support of the Patriots ’ coaching staff after Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, calling all the criticism they’ve received “ some BS .” It’s the first time the rookie quarterback really spoke out in a postgame press conference, and it meant a lot to Jerod Mayo. “It means a lot. It means a lot. Hopefully, those guys know I care about them not only as football players, but as men,” the coach said during his weekly video conference on Monday . “That’s always been my message, and it’s been consistent all year. I care about these guys as men, and I have to continue to get better so we can get in the win column and push forward.” The coaching staff has been the target of a slew of criticism for much of the season between the play calling and decision making. The staff was put under the spotlight once again Sunday when Mayo decided to punt on fourth-and-5 on their own 45-yard line with 8:33 to play and the Patriots down 24-14. Mayo chalked it up to field position , but it was just another moment that followed criticism. The players have backed Mayo as their coach despite a rough 2024 season. Several reports point to him returning in 2025 unless there’s a catastrophic setback over the final games of the campagin. More Patriots Content
A Hampshire charity has launched an urgent appeal to raise £50,000. Autism Hampshire is asking for donations to cover a critical shortfall in funding for its community group for autistic adults. The charity, which has been operating these groups for more than a decade, relies heavily on donations and grants to sustain its Serendipity Community Groups, which provide essential support for more than 200 autistic adults across Hampshire. Due to the challenging external fundraising environment, securing funding has become tougher than ever. The Serendipity Community Groups, which are an essential resource for autistic adults facing social isolation and mental health challenges, offer a safe, welcoming environment for autistic adults where they can connect, develop friendships, and access support for their mental health and wellbeing. Maxine Gibson, acting head of community services at Autism Hampshire, said: "Without these groups, many of our members would feel isolated, without a place to truly be themselves. "The groups allow people to unmask, make friends and find the support they need. "We have every faith and confidence that together, we can raise all the funding we need to keep the Serendipity Community Groups running. "Every contribution helps, and the more support we receive, the better positioned we are to keep these vital services running long-term. "We're hopeful that with the community’s generosity, we can close the gap and continue empowering autistic adults across Hampshire." Autism Hampshire currently has groups at 14 locations across the county and are open to any autistic adult over the age of 18, even if they are still waiting for a diagnosis or have chosen not to receive a formal diagnosis. As well as the Serendipity Community Groups, Autism Hampshire also provides autism-focused training, supported living services, an information, advice and guidance team, a local autism directory and an autism alert programme for emergency services. New technology analyzes the deformation of stretchable structures in real-timeDENVER — Amid renewed interest in the killing of JonBenet Ramsey triggered in part by a new Netflix documentary, police in Boulder, Colorado, refuted assertions this week that there is viable evidence and leads about the 1996 killing of the 6-year-old girl that they are not pursuing. JonBenet Ramsey, who competed in beauty pageants, was found dead in the basement of her family's home in the college town of Boulder the day after Christmas in 1996. Her body was found several hours after her mother called 911 to say her daughter was missing and a ransom note was left behind. The gravesite of JonBenet Ramsey is covered with flowers Jan. 8, 1997, at St. James Episcopal Cemetery in Marietta, Ga. JonBenet was bludgeoned and strangled. Her death was ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever prosecuted. The details of the crime and video footage of JonBenet competing in pageants propelled the case into one of the highest-profile mysteries in the United States. The police comments came as part of their annual update on the investigation, a month before the 28th anniversary of JonBenet's killing. Police said they released it a little earlier due to the increased attention on the case, apparently referring to the three-part Netflix series "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey." In a video statement, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said the department welcomes news coverage and documentaries about the killing of JonBenet, who would have been 34 this year, as a way to generate possible new leads. He said the department is committed to solving the case but needs to be careful about what it shares about the investigation to protect a possible future prosecution. "What I can tell you though, is we have thoroughly investigated multiple people as suspects throughout the years and we continue to be open-minded about what occurred as we investigate the tips that come in to detectives," he said. The Netflix documentary focuses on the mistakes made by police and the "media circus" surrounding the case. A police officer sits in her cruiser Jan. 3, 1997, outside the home in which 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered Dec. 26, 1996, in Boulder, Colo. Police were widely criticized for mishandling the early investigation into her death amid speculation that her family was responsible. However, a prosecutor cleared her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, and brother Burke in 2008 based on new DNA evidence from JonBenet's clothing that pointed to the involvement of an "unexplained third party" in her slaying. The announcement by former district attorney Mary Lacy came two years after Patsy Ramsey died of cancer. Lacy called the Ramseys "victims of this crime." John Ramsey continued to speak out for the case to be solved. In 2022, he supported an online petition asking Colorado's governor to intervene in the investigation by putting an outside agency in charge of DNA testing in the case. In the Netflix documentary, he said he advocated for several items that were not prepared for DNA testing to be tested and for other items to be retested. He said the results should be put through a genealogy database. In recent years, investigators identified suspects in unsolved cases by comparing DNA profiles from crime scenes and to DNA testing results shared online by people researching their family trees. In 2021, police said in their annual update that DNA hadn't been ruled out to help solve the case, and in 2022 noted that some evidence could be "consumed" if DNA testing is done on it. Last year, police said they convened a panel of outside experts to review the investigation to give recommendations and determine if updated technologies or forensic testing might produce new leads. In the latest update, Redfearn said that review ended but police continue to work through and evaluate a "lengthy list of recommendations" from the panel. Mayor Reece Keener chose a few words to describe her: wise, discerning, resolute and grounded, and he presented her with a plaque “on behalf of the city for everything you have done the past 12 years.” Councilman Chip Stone said she was the pivotal reason he ran for council, and he complimented her over her mayor pro tempore duties. “If you want a short meeting, she does it,” he said Dec. 10. Councilman Giovanni Puccinelli said sitting on the council can be a thankless job, but “it has been a pleasure working with you.” “I’m certainly not going to miss stressful situations, but I will miss the people,” Simons said by phone Dec. 11. “I’m going to just spend more time with my family.” She is termed out, and her replacement is Marissa Lostra, who will be sworn in Jan. 6. The next regular council meeting is Jan. 14. Others with ties to the Elko City Council through their work or past work also spoke as the council honored Simons. Elko Regional Airport Manager Jim Foster thanked Simons for her support of the airport as the council’s liaison, and he presented her with Elko Regional Airport socks, reporting that socks with airport names are “super popular in the industry. You are one of the first recipients of Elko airport socks.” Simons said in the call that the city has hired “great consultants and formed a group of interested parties working hard to see what they can do” to keep SkyWest serving Elko. “They’ve put up money, but it is still up to the airlines. If we can keep the 50-seater, that is a good size for the community.” The Flight Alliance of Northeastern Nevada, with city funds from lodging taxes, a grant from Elko County and a contribution from Eureka County, provides a revenue guarantee for SkyWest for its daily flights to and from Salt Lake City. Simons has been airport liaison for all 12 years in office. During the ceremony honoring her, retired Elko Police Chief Ben Reed congratulated Simons, stating that she is the person to look to for compromise. He also said she was on the council when he was hired in 2013, and he recalled that when the council was considering constructing a new police station, she said “enough already. Build it.” The police department moved into a new building in 2016. City Attorney Dave Stanton told Simons he was “going to really miss your sense of humor, and the fact that you did the tough stuff the council needs to do. Elko is a much better place because of you.” City Manager Jan Baum and Assistant City Manager Scott Wilkinson also praised Simons, and Scott Gavorsky from the audience thanked Simons on behalf of the Elko County Republican Party for her service. Councilman Clair Morris praised Simons for her ability to juggle children and their activities and her council job. According to the city’s website, Simons moved to Elko after marrying Mason Simons in 2005 when he took a job with the public defenders’ office, and they have four children. Mason Simons is now a district judge. Mandy Simons said one child is in college and the others are still at home. She was on the council when her youngest child was born in 2015. She was elected for the first time in 2012 and again in 2016 and 2020. Looking back on her council years, she said one of the challenges was dealing with Covid-19, and the council’s accomplishments have included working with the Veterans Administration for the new cemetery and the Elko Boys and Girls Club for the new recreation center and pool facility and the planned events center. Simons said Elko has “amazing people and is a great community, with lots of people willing to step up and get things done.” The councilwoman, who has a degree in political science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is also a pianist and plays with the Adobe Middle School Choir and the Elko High School Choraliers. “I get a stipend,” she said in the call, recalling that her grandfather could play honky-tonk on the piano, and that inspired her to take piano lessons from age 9 “all through college.” The mayor said there will be a reception for Simons after the holidays. Nerazzurri President Beppe Marotta feels that there are “still many trophies” left for Inter Milan to win despite the club’s illustrious history. Marotta spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews . He outlined his ambitious mindset for Inter. In each of the past four seasons, Inter have won silverware. Last time around, it was the Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana. Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri reached the Europa League final in the 2019-20 season, and the Champions League final in the 2022-23 campaign. This is a far cry from where Inter were a decade or so again. They had several years where they were unable to win any major titles. However, throughout Inter’s history there have been many periods where they were successful. Therefore, seeing the Nerazzurri at the top of the Italian – and European – game has a familiar feel. This season, Inter are fighting on a number of fronts. There is Serie A, where they have just won against Como to keep the pressure on in the title race. Next month, Inter will try and win the Supercoppa Italiana for the third season running. And then there are the Coppa Italia, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup to fight for. Beppe Marotta: “Inter Milan Have Many More Trophies To Win” Inter President Marotta noted that “Along my journey, I’ve experienced working with many Presidents and management models.” “I’m a lover of the world of sport and football,” he said. “Passion is what moves me. Nothing gives you a rush of adrenaline quite like football.” Marotta noted that “In sport you have to be ambitios.” “With a view of a winning path forward, and with great results for Inter.” “The history and the trophy cabinet of this club shows us that they’ve already won many trophies,” Marotta said. “But there are still many, many more left for us to win.”In death penalty case, state Supreme Court denies Baton Rouge man's request for new judge
December's full cold moon: What to knowSUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Spencer Knight made 20 saves, Mackie Samoskevich scored with less than a second left in the second period, and the Florida Panthers got four goals in the third to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-0 on Saturday and complete a two-day sweep. Aleksander Barkov, Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad, Evan Rodrigues and Adam Boqvist also scored for Florida, which won 6-3 at Carolina on Friday. The Panthers have won three straight — that streak following a stretch of six losses in seven games for the Stanley Cup champions. It was Knight's fourth career shutout, his first since Nov. 9, 2022 — also at home against Carolina. Spencer Martin made 23 saves on 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped four of their last six games (2-3-1). It was Martin's fourth consecutive start for Carolina. Hurricanes: This was the first time all season that the Hurricanes failed to get a point in the game immediately following a loss. Carolina was 4-0-1 after a defeat entering Saturday. Panthers: A big day for Samoskevich — his alma mater Michigan beat Ohio State in football on Saturday, that game ending just before the Florida-Carolina game started. The Panthers are 5-0-0 when he scores this season. Sam Reinhart had each of the four most recent Florida goals at 19:59, before Samoskevich got his Saturday. The Panthers scored two goals 11 seconds apart in the third to make it 5-0, and Yaniv Perets replaced Martin in the Hurricanes' net with 8:12 remaining. It was the second NHL appearance for Perets, who came on once in relief for Carolina last season. Ekblad's goal was his first in a span of 1,045 regular-season shifts since Feb. 20. Carolina starts a two-game homestand Tuesday against Seattle. Florida goes to Pittsburgh to start a two-game trip on Tuesday. AP NHL: https://www.apnews.com/hub/NHL
