4. How is China perceived by other countries in terms of its economic influence?

NoneAmidst the uncertainties brought by global economic fluctuations and trade tensions, China has maintained a steady course, focusing on fostering domestic consumption, promoting innovation, and deepening structural reforms. The government's commitment to a proactive and prudent monetary policy, coupled with targeted fiscal measures, has played a crucial role in stabilizing the economy and promoting sustainable growth. In recent years, the global economic landscape has undergone significant transformation, with the emergence of new trends and dynamics shaping the future of consumption and investment. Against this backdrop, the concept of cultivating a comprehensive system to fully unleash potential and drive positive change through the dual wheels of consumer investment has gained traction, promising to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity.(CNN) — The US’ key anti-ISIS partners in Syria said on Wednesday that the ISIS detention facilities they guard are coming under attack and that they have been forced to halt anti-ISIS operations, complicating the US military’s efforts to prevent the terror group from reconstituting following the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad . US officials have been scrambling to ensure that the terrorists can’t regroup in Syria and have carried out dozens of airstrikes on ISIS targets in recent days, as dozens of competing factions, including some backed by Turkey, now vie for control in different parts of the country. But the US’ most important partner there, the SDF, has come under relentless attack by Turkish-backed militants in recent days, raising concerns among US officials and experts about the security of the more than 20 detention facilities and camps holding suspected ISIS members and their families in northern Syria. The SDF is largely made up of Kurdish fighters from a group known as the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG), which is considered a terrorist organization by neighboring Turkey. The SDF’s top commander in Syria, General Mazloum Abdi, told CNN on Wednesday that the SDF has had to begin relocating ISIS detainees because the prisons have been threatened. “With the increasing threats that faced the city of Manbij, we relocated ISIS detainees from the prisons there to other, more secure detention facilities,” Mazloum said. “As Turkey-backed factions advanced toward the city center, cells launched attacks on detention centers holding both civilians and terrorists,” he added. “Currently, detention centers in both Raqqa and Hasakah are facing similar threats, necessitating enhanced cooperation and additional security measures to protect these sites.” The SDF has now withdrawn from Manbij altogether following what it is describing as a fragile ceasefire with the Turkey-backed groups, which was brokered with the help of the US on Tuesday. The fighting has also forced the SDF to halt its anti-ISIS operations, Mazloum told Sky News on Wednesday. “At the moment, joint operations against ISIS are halted, this is not a decision, but a military reality,” he said. “If these attacks persist, joint operations will remain suspended. ISIS is now stronger in the Syrian desert.” Mazloum said that previously, ISIS was hiding, but their activities have now “increased” in areas under SDF control. Additionally, “plans for breaking out from detention centers is also on their agenda,” he added. It is an “inordinately complex situation at the moment” in Syria, said Ian Moss, a former senior State Department official who worked on counterterrorism and is now with the law firm Jenner & Block. “We absolutely cannot stay out of it,” Moss told CNN. He added that there is “broad bipartisan agreement” that the situation in the camps is “not sustainable.” A congressional official agreed and noted that “there are still many facilities the SDF is guarding and may be shifting away from as the Turkish strikes increase and [the SDF forces] have to redeploy.” Senior US officials, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff CQ Brown, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have all spoken with their Turkish counterparts in recent days to underscore the need for communication and deconfliction as Syria undergoes a highly complex political transition. Blinken is on his way to the region and will visit Turkey later this week where he is likely to raise the attacks by the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army against the US-supported Kurds in northeast Syria. Further underscoring the chaotic nature of the fighting right now, the SDF downed a US MQ-9 Reaper drone on Monday because they thought it was Turkish, multiple officials told CNN. The MQ9 is remotely piloted by the US Air Force and is capable of conducting surveillance and carrying out offensive strikes. Asked about the downed drone, an American defense official said that US forces have recovered some of its components and destroyed remaining portions of it. “US Air Forces Central is actively assessing the actions that led to the incident and will adjust tactics, techniques, and procedures to safeguard US, Coalition, and partner forces and their associated assets,” the official said. It is not clear what the drone’s mission was at the time it was shot down, but the US has continued conducting anti-ISIS operations in Syria in recent days and carried out dozens of strikes against ISIS targets just one day after Assad’s ouster. Around 900 American troops remain in Syria as part of an anti-ISIS coalition that includes the SDF, and defense officials have said the US intends to maintain its presence in the country to prevent the terror group from reconstituting. Austin told reporters in Japan on Wednesday that the US will continue to work with the SDF going forward. “We have a good relationship with them and I think it will remain that way,” Austin said. The explosive growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) market has minted a lot of millionaires. For example, a modest $3,000 investment in the AI chipmaker Nvidia just 10 years ago would be worth nearly $1.5 million today. But with a market cap of $3.6 trillion, it could be tough for Nvidia to replicate those millionaire-making gains over the next decade. Therefore, investors looking for those kinds of life-changing returns should seek out smaller companies that have more room to grow. I believe these three companies -- Symbotic (NASDAQ: SYM) , Serve Robotics (NASDAQ: SERV) , and Lemonade (NYSE: LMND) -- might just make the cut. Start Your Mornings Smarter! Wake up with Breakfast news in your inbox every market day. Sign Up For Free » 1. Symbotic Symbotic produces fully autonomous robots for processing pallets in warehouses. It claims a $50 million investment in just one of its modules (which includes its robots and software) can generate $250 million in lifetime savings over 25 years. Its top customer is Walmart , which tasked the company with automating all of its U.S. regional distribution centers over the next decade. That deal accounted for 88% of Symbotic's revenue in fiscal 2023 (which ended last September). Walmart is also one of Symbotic's leading investors. Symbotic is overwhelmingly dependent on Walmart, but it's been gaining additional major customers like Target , Albertsons , and C&S Wholesale. It's also providing more robots to GreenBox, a new warehouse-as-a-service joint venture it launched with its big backer SoftBank last year. Symbotic's revenue jumped 55% in fiscal 2024, and analysts expect its top line to keep growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32% over the next two years as it continues to fulfill its long-term deal with Walmart and lock in new customers. Analysts also expect it to turn profitable on a generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ) basis in 2025. With an enterprise value of $3.1 billion, Symbotic's stock still looks cheap at 1.3 times this year's sales. It faces some near-term macro and competitive headwinds in the warehouse automation space, but it might just become a millionaire-maker stock over the next few years. 2. Serve Robotics Serve Robotics develops autonomous sidewalk delivery robots. It was originally created as a unit of Postmates, which was acquired by Uber Technologies in 2020. Uber spun off Serve in 2021, but it still uses its robots to fulfill some of Uber Eats' orders in Los Angeles. Serve still generates all of its revenue from Uber, and it only operated 59 active robots across the Los Angeles area in the third quarter of 2024. But in 2025, it plans to deploy up to 2,000 robots for Uber Eats across the L.A. and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas. For 2024, analysts expect Serve to generate less than $2 million in revenue as it racks up a net loss of $34 million. But in 2025, they expect its revenue to jump to $13 million as it narrows its net loss to $31 million. In 2026, they see its revenue more than quadrupling to nearly $60 million as it narrows its net loss to $25 million. We should take those estimates with a grain of salt, but Serve's business could start gaining momentum as more businesses use its robots to make short-range deliveries. That growth could help it attract more customers to reduce its dependence on Uber. With an enterprise value of $379 million, Serve doesn't seem terribly expensive at 6 times its 2026 sales. It remains a highly speculative stock, but it could still have plenty of upside potential and counts Nvidia as one of its top investors. 3. Lemonade Lemonade is an online insurance company that simplifies the onboarding and claims process with its AI-powered chatbots. That simple digital-first approach made it popular with younger and first-time insurance buyers, and more than 70% of its customers were under the age of 35 at the time of its initial public offering in 2020. It initially only offered renters and homeowners insurance, but it now offers term life, pet health, and auto insurance policies. It ended its latest quarter with 2.31 million customers, compared to just over 1 million customers at the end of 2020. For 2024, Lemonade expects its in-force premiums to rise 26%, its gross earned premiums to grow 22%-23%, and its total revenue to increase 21%-22%. It also sees its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) improving from negative $173 million in 2023 to negative $151 million-$155 million in 2024. Lemonade hasn't proven its business model is sustainable yet, but it's growing much faster than its larger competitors. With an enterprise value of $2.9 billion, it trades at just 4 times next year's sales -- so it might generate millionaire-maker gains if it scales up its business, narrows its losses, and widens its moat.
