Share Tweet Share Share Email Understanding The Risks In The Digital Asset World The digital asset landscape has experienced exponential growth in recent years, with cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and other blockchain-based assets becoming increasingly mainstream. However, this rapid expansion has also brought with it a significant increase in the risks associated with these investments. From hacking and phishing attacks to scams and fraudulent schemes, digital asset holders have found themselves facing a myriad of challenges when it comes to protecting their investments. One of the most pressing issues in the digital asset world is the prevalence of scams and fraud. Scammers have become increasingly sophisticated in their tactics, using a variety of methods to lure unsuspecting investors into their schemes. These can range from fake cryptocurrency exchanges and investment platforms to social media-based Ponzi schemes and even outright theft of digital assets. Recovering from such scams can be a daunting task, as the decentralized nature of blockchain technology can make it challenging to trace and recover stolen funds. This is where the need for experienced and trusted cryptocurrency recovery experts becomes crucial. Scammed Digital Assets Recovery In Asia Asia, with its rapidly growing digital asset market, has become a prime target for scammers and fraudsters. From the bustling financial hubs of Hong Kong and Singapore to the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, digital asset holders in the region have faced a range of challenges when it comes to recovering their stolen funds. Share Tweet Share Share Email Home remodeling is an exciting opportunity to reimagine your living space and turn it into something that perfectly suits your lifestyle and tastes. However, a successful remodeling project requires careful planning and thoughtful execution. With a solid plan and a clear vision, you can bring your dream home to life while avoiding common pitfalls. Let’s explore the essential steps to plan your home remodel effectively. 1. Define Your Remodeling Goals Every remodeling project starts with a purpose. Ask yourself: What do you want to achieve with this remodel? Is the focus on aesthetics, functionality, or both? Are you upgrading for personal enjoyment, increased property value, or future resale? Clearly defining your goals will guide your decisions throughout the project and keep you focused on your priorities. 2. Establish a Realistic Budget Setting a budget is one of the most critical steps in home remodeling. Determine how much you’re willing to spend and allocate funds to different aspects of the project, such as materials, labor, and permits. It’s wise to leave a contingency fund for unexpected expenses that may arise during construction. For cost-effective guidance, consider consulting professional home remodelers in Kirkland who can provide budget-friendly solutions without compromising quality. 3. Create a Detailed Plan A detailed plan ensures that every aspect of your remodel is accounted for. Start by listing the areas you want to remodel and the changes you envision. Sketch rough layouts or collect inspiration from magazines, online platforms, or design apps. Collaborate with designers or contractors to refine your ideas into a practical blueprint. 4. Prioritize Functionality While aesthetics are important, functionality should always take precedence. Think about how you use each space daily and design accordingly: Optimize kitchen layouts for efficient cooking and cleaning. Add storage solutions to reduce clutter and maximize space. Consider open layouts for improved flow and connectivity. When functionality is a priority, your remodeled space will not only look great but also work seamlessly. 5. Choose the Right Materials The materials you choose for your remodel can significantly impact its durability and appeal. Select high-quality materials that align with your style and budget. For example: Quartz or granite for kitchen countertops. Hardwood, laminate, or tile for flooring. Energy-efficient windows to reduce utility costs. Balancing quality with affordability ensures a long-lasting and visually appealing result. 6. Incorporate Modern Trends While timeless designs are always a safe choice, incorporating a few modern trends can elevate your remodel. Some popular ideas include: Smart home technology for lighting, appliances, and climate control. Eco-friendly materials like reclaimed wood and low-VOC paints. Minimalist designs with clean lines and neutral palettes. These trends not only enhance your home’s functionality but also make it more appealing to future buyers. 7. Work with Trusted Professionals Choosing the right professionals is essential for a smooth and successful remodeling process. From architects and designers to contractors and tradespeople, experienced experts can bring your vision to life while ensuring quality craftsmanship. Businesses like New Day Construction offer expertise in all aspects of home remodeling, making them a valuable partner for your project. 8. Secure Necessary Permits Home remodeling often involves structural changes that require permits from local authorities. Ensure you research the permits needed for your project and obtain them before starting construction. Working with a licensed contractor simplifies this process, as they can handle the paperwork on your behalf. 9. Stay Flexible with Your Timeline While it’s important to establish a timeline for your remodel, unexpected delays are common in construction projects. Material shortages, weather conditions, or unforeseen structural issues can slow progress. Staying flexible and prepared for adjustments will help you navigate these challenges without undue stress. 10. Optimize Your Kitchen Remodel The kitchen is often the focal point of a home remodel, as it’s a space where functionality and aesthetics intersect. Consider these tips for a successful kitchen transformation: Use the “work triangle” principle to enhance efficiency. Add storage features like pull-out pantries or deep drawers. Invest in energy-efficient appliances to reduce operating costs. Thoughtful planning ensures your kitchen remains practical and beautiful for years to come. 11. Enhance Comfort and Livability Remodeling isn’t just about improving appearances—it’s also about creating a comfortable and welcoming environment. Incorporate features that enhance livability, such as: Insulated walls and windows for better climate control. Lighting systems that balance natural and artificial light. Cozy design elements like soft textures and warm tones. Your remodel should reflect your personal style while providing a space where you feel truly at home. 12. Don’t Overlook Outdoor Spaces Outdoor spaces are an extension of your home and deserve attention during a remodel. Upgrades like patios, decks, or landscaped gardens can enhance curb appeal and provide additional areas for relaxation and entertainment. Consider integrating indoor and outdoor spaces with large glass doors or seamless flooring transitions. 13. Stay Organized During the Process Home remodeling can feel overwhelming without proper organization. Keep track of your plans, expenses, and progress with a project management tool or a dedicated notebook. Regularly communicate with your contractors to ensure everything is on schedule and address any issues promptly. 14. Add Personal Touches Finally, make your remodeled space uniquely yours by incorporating personal touches. Whether it’s custom-built furniture, family photos, or a favorite color scheme, these details make a house feel like a home. Personalization transforms your remodel from a generic upgrade to a true reflection of your style and personality. Remodeling your home is a rewarding process that breathes new life into your living space. By focusing on careful planning, prioritizing functionality, and working with experienced professionals like New Day Construction , you can turn your dream home into a reality. With the right approach, your remodel will enhance your home’s value, comfort, and style for years to come. They encrypt your online traffic and hide your true IP address from would-be hackers or other snooping third parties. While the best VPNs are usually dedicated apps, you may have also heard about VPN browser extensions. They look appealing due to their ease of use and affordable price. But which should you choose? Below I'll give you a rundown of what a VPN browser extension does and help you decide which is the best option for you. What is a VPN browser extension? A VPN browser extension is essentially a VPN that protects the browser that it's a part of, and only that browser. For example, a Chrome VPN browser extension will cover only that Chrome browser. Other apps that connect to the internet outside of the browser, such as games or streaming apps, won't be protected by the extension. It might help to think of a VPN app as a fortress that protects all of your assets and a VPN browser extension as more like a small personal safe that only protects a few carefully selected items. Pros and cons of a VPN browser extension Pros A VPN browser extension can be a nice upgrade to your personal privacy and security while online. It might not come with the complete coverage of a VPN app, but it does have its advantages. VPN browser extensions are typically lightweight and don't take up nearly as many resources as a full VPN app. As a result of this simplicity, they are also extremely easy to use. While most VPN apps require you to pay a premium for a subscription, a VPN... Sam Singleton

With word of these levies against goods imported from Mexico, Canada and China, Trump sent auto industry stocks plummeting, raised fears for global supply chains and unnerved the world's major economies. For Washington-watchers with memories of the Republican's first term, the impromptu policy volley on Monday evening foreshadowed a second term of startling announcements of all manner, fired off at all hours of the day from his smartphone. "Donald Trump is never going to change much of anything," said Larry Sabato, a leading US political scientist and director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics. "You can expect in the second term pretty much what he showed us about himself and his methods in the first term. Social media announcements of policy, hirings and firings will continue." The first of Trump's tariff announcements -- a 25 percent levy on everything coming in from Mexico and Canada -- came amid an angry rebuke of lax border security at 6:45 pm on Truth Social, Trump's own platform. The United States is bound by agreements on the movement of goods and services brokered by Trump in a free trade treaty with both nations during his first term. But Trump warned that the new levy would "remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country" -- sowing panic from Ottawa to Mexico City. Seconds later, another message from the incoming commander-in-chief turned the focus on Chinese imports, which he said would be hit with "an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs." The consequences were immediate. Almost every major US automaker operates plants in Mexico, and shares in General Motors and Stellantis -- which produce pickup trucks in America's southern neighbor -- plummeted. Canada, China and Mexico protested, while Germany called on its European partners to prepare for Trump to impose hefty tariffs on their exports and stick together to combat such measures. The tumult recalls Trump's first term, when journalists, business leaders and politicians at home and abroad would scan their phones for the latest pronouncements, often long after they had left the office or over breakfast. During his first four years in the Oval Office, the tweet -- in those days his newsy posts were almost exclusively limited to Twitter, now known as X -- became the quasi-official gazette for administration policy. The public learned of the president-elect's 2020 Covid-19 diagnosis via an early-hours post, and when Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani was assassinated on Trump's order, the Republican confirmed the kill by tweeting a US flag. The public and media learned of numerous other decisions big and small by the same source, from the introduction of customs duties to the dismissal of cabinet secretaries. It is not a communication method that has been favored by any previous US administration and runs counter to the policies and practices of most governments around the world. Throughout his third White House campaign, and with every twist and turn in his various entanglements with the justice system, Trump has poured his heart out on Truth Social, an app he turned to during his 20-month ban from Twitter. In recent days, the mercurial Republican has even named his attorney general secretaries of justice and health via announcements on the network. "He sees social media as a tool to shape and direct the national conversation and will do so again," said political scientist Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University professor. cjc/ft/dw/bjt

Beirut: Insurgents’ stunning march across Syria gained speed on Saturday (Sunday AEDT) with news that they had reached the suburbs of the capital Damascus and with the government forced to deny rumours that President Bashar al-Assad had fled the country. The lightning rebel advance suggests that Assad’s government could fall within the next week, US and other Western officials said. A giant portrait of Syrian president Bashar Assad sets on a building, as empty streets seen in Damascus, Syria, on Saturday. Credit: AP Since the rebels’ sweep into Aleppo a week ago, government defences have crumbled at a dizzying speed as insurgents seized a string of major cities and rose up in places where the rebellion had long seemed over. The twin threats to the strategically vital city of Homs and the capital, Damascus, now pose an existential danger to the Assad dynasty’s five-decade reign over Syria and the continued influence there of its main regional backer, Iran. The rebels’ moves around Damascus, reported by an opposition war monitor and a rebel commander, came after the Syrian army withdrew from much of the southern part of the country, leaving more areas, including several provincial capitals, under the control of opposition fighters. If the insurgents capture Homs, they would cut the link between Damascus, Assad’s seat of power, and the coastal region where the president enjoys wide support. The advances in the past week were among the largest in recent years by opposition factions led by a group that has its origins in al-Qaeda and is considered a terrorist organisation by the US and the United Nations. In their push to overthrow Assad’s government, the insurgents, led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, or HTS, have met little resistance from the Syrian army. For the first time in the country’s long-running civil war, the government now has control of only four of 14 provincial capitals: Damascus, Homs, Latakia and Tartus. Credit: Getty Images The UN’s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, on Saturday called for urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an “orderly political transition”. Speaking to reporters at the annual Doha Forum in Qatar, he said the situation in Syria was changing by the minute. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, whose country is Assad’s chief international backer, said he feels “sorry for the Syrian people”. In Damascus, people rushed to stock up on supplies. Thousands went to Syria’s border with Lebanon, trying to leave the country. Many shops in the capital were shuttered, a resident told the Associated Press, and those still open had run out of staples such as sugar. Some were selling items at three times the normal price. “The situation is very strange. We are not used to that,” the resident said, insisting on anonymity, fearing retributions. “People are worried whether there will be a battle [in Damascus] or not.” It was the first time that opposition forces reached the outskirts of Damascus since 2018 when Syrian troops recaptured the area following a years-long siege. The UN said it was moving non-critical staff outside the country as a precaution. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad: Backed by Russia and Iran – both of which are bogged down in separate conflicts. Credit: Saudi Press Agency/AP Assad rumours Syria’s state media denied social media rumours that President Assad had left the country, saying he was performing his duties in Damascus. Assad has had little, if any, help from his allies. Russia is busy with its war in Ukraine and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which at one point sent thousands of fighters to shore up Assad’s forces, has been weakened by a yearlong conflict with Israel. Iran has seen its proxies across the region degraded by regular Israeli airstrikes. US President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday posted on social media that the US should avoid engaging militarily in Syria. Pedersen said a date for talks in Geneva on the implementation a UN resolution, adopted in 2015, and calling for a Syrian-led political process, would be announced later. The resolution calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body, followed by the drafting of a new constitution and ending with UN-supervised elections. Credit: AP Foreign ministers and senior diplomats from eight key countries, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Egypt, Turkey and Iran, along with Pederson, gathered on the sidelines of the Doha Summit on Saturday to discuss the situation. No details were immediately available. The insurgents’ march Rami Abdurrahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, said insurgents were in the Damascus suburbs of Maadamiyah, Jaramana and Daraya. Opposition fighters were marching toward the Damascus suburb of Harasta, he added. An insurgent commander, Hassan Abdul-Ghani, posted on the Telegram messaging app that opposition forces had begun the “final stage” of their offensive by encircling Damascus. HTS controls much of northwest Syria and in 2017 set up a “salvation government” to run day-to-day affairs in the region. In recent years, HTS leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani has sought to remake the group’s image, cutting ties with al-Qaeda, ditching hardline officials and vowing to embrace pluralism and religious tolerance. Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani. Credit: Al Jazeera Syria’s military, meanwhile, sent large numbers of reinforcements to defend the key central city of Homs, Syria’s third largest, as insurgents approached its outskirts. The shock offensive began on November 27, during which rebel fighters captured the northern city of Aleppo, Syria’s largest, and the central city of Hama, the country’s fourth-largest city. Opposition activists said insurgents entered Palmyra on Friday, which is home to invaluable archaeological sites, that had been in government hands since being taken from the Islamic State group in 2017. To the south, Syrian troops left much of the province of Quneitra, including the main Baath City, activists said. The Syrian Observatory said government troops had withdrawn from much of the two southern provinces and were sending reinforcements to Homs, where a battle loomed. If the insurgents capture Homs, they would cut the link between Damascus, Assad’s seat of power, and the coastal region where the president enjoys wide support. The Syrian Army said in a statement that it had carried out redeployment and repositioning in Sweida and Daraa after its checkpoints came under attack by “terrorists”. The army said it was setting up a “strong and coherent defensive and security belt in the area”, apparently to defend Damascus from the south. The Syrian government has referred to opposition gunmen as terrorists since conflict broke out in March 2011. Diplomacy in Doha The foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey, meeting in Qatar, called for an end to the hostilities. Turkey is a main backer of the rebels. Qatar’s top diplomat, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, criticised Assad for failing to take advantage of the lull in fighting in recent years to address the country’s underlying problems. “Assad didn’t seize this opportunity to start engaging and restoring his relationship with his people,” he said. Sheikh Mohammed said he was surprised by how quickly the rebels have advanced and said there was a real threat to Syria’s “territorial integrity.” He said the war could “damage and destroy what is left if there is no sense of urgency” to start a political process. Loading Many shops in the capital were shuttered, a resident told the Associated Press, and those still open had run out of staples such as sugar. Loading The Syrian Observatory said government troops had withdrawn from much of the two southern provinces and were sending reinforcements to Homs, where a battle loomed.
