MUMBAI: There is scope for bank credit to outpace growth of the economy given the relatively low share of credit to GDP, according to RBI. "India's total credit-to-GDP ratio (including credit extended by banks as well as NBFCs) at 90.1% in 2022 was below that of advanced economies and of emerging market economies (EMEs) as well as the estimated threshold (of 113.1%). As such, higher credit growth remains supportive of economic growth," RBI said in its report on Trend and Progress of Banking in India. The report includes a cross-country analysis of credit-to-GDP ratio, concluding that higher credit growth in India remains supportive of economic growth. A separate analysis on deposits has concluded that income growth has a significant positive impact on bank deposits. Ready to Master Stock Valuation? ET’s Workshop is just around the corner!

Tampa Bay (7-6) at Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) Sunday, 4:25 p.m. EST, FOX BetMGM NFL odds: Chargers by 3. Against the spread: Buccaneers 8-5; Chargers 9-4. Series record: Chargers lead 8-4. Last meeting: Chargers beat Buccaneers 38-31 in Tampa, Fla., on Oct. 4, 2020. Last week: Buccaneers beat Las Vegas 28-13; Chargers lost to Kansas City 19-17. Buccaneers offense: overall (3), rush (8), pass (6), scoring (5). Buccaneers defense: overall (28), rush (11), pass (30), scoring (22). Chargers offense: overall (24), rush (19), pass (25), scoring (13). Chargers defense: overall (11), rush (T-14), pass (8), scoring (1). Turnover differential: Buccaneers minus-2; Chargers plus-11. Buccaneers player to watch QB Baker Mayfield is trying to lead Tampa Bay to a fourth consecutive NFC South title. He’s already matched a career-best for touchdown passes with 28, but also hasn’t done as good a job of taking care of the football as a year ago. He threw for 295 yards and three TDs in last week’s 15-point win over Las Vegas. He also turned the ball over three times in the first half to help the Raiders stay close until the fourth quarter. Chargers player to watch WR Quentin Johnston bounced back from a couple of tough performances to make five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs. But inconsistency has been the defining trait of the slow start to Johnston’s NFL career, so being able to follow it up will be telling. The Chargers needed the 2023 first-round pick to step up with rookie Ladd McConkey sidelined because of knee and shoulder injuries last week. With McConkey's status to play Sunday uncertain, Johnston could be called on again. Key matchup Chargers RB Kimani Vidal vs. Buccaneers LB Lavonte David. Vidal, a rookie from Troy, seems to have increased his standing in the Chargers’ backfield that definitely missed J.K. Dobbins (knee). Vidal had eight carries for 34 yards while playing 53% of the offensive snaps in Kansas City, more than starter Gus Edwards. The Chargers are going to stick to the run under coach Jim Harbaugh, which means the newcomer Vidal will have to outfox a 13-season veteran in David. At 34, David remains a force, making seven tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and recovering a fumble against the Raiders. He is eight tackles away from his 11th season of triple-digit stops. Key injuries Bucs S Antoine Winfield Jr. left last week’s game with a knee sprain and is expected to be sidelined a couple of weeks. S Mike Edwards (hamstring), OLB Markees Watts (knee), LB K.J. Britt (ankle) and WR Kameron Johnson (ankle) will also miss Sunday's game. Leading rusher Bucky Irving has a back injury and is listed as questionable. ... Chargers QB Justin Herbert is dealing with a sprained left ankle, but was a full participant in practice Friday. TE Will Dissly (shoulder) and WR Jalen Reagor (finger) are out. Series notes While the Chargers won eight of the first nine meetings between the franchises, Tampa Bay took the past three. ... This will be the Buccaneers’ third trip to Los Angeles and second to SoFi Stadium, where they lost 34-24 to the Rams in September 2021. Stats and stuff The Bucs are 7-1 in December/January regular-season games going back to last season. They’re 19-5 in those games going back to 2020, the first of Tom Brady’s three years with Tampa Bay. ... WR Mike Evans needs 17 receptions and 426 yards over the next four games to finish with his 11th consecutive season with at least 60 catches and 1,000 yards receiving. ... Evans had seven receptions for 122 yards and a TD the previous time Tampa Bay faced the Chargers (Oct. 4, 2020). ... The Bucs have rushed for 100-plus yards in 10 of 13 games. That’s after doing it just nine times over 34 games the past two regular seasons. ... With leading rusher Bucky Irving sitting out most of last week’s game against Las Vegas with a back injury, starter Rachaad White took up the slack with 90 yards rushing on 17 attempts — both season highs. He also scored two TDs, one receiving. ... White’s rushing TD was the 14th for Tampa Bay. That’s more than the Bucs scored on the ground in 2022 (five) and 2023 (eight) combined. ... The Chargers have turned the ball over a league-low six times. The franchise record for fewest giveaways in a season is 15, which they did in 2006 and 2017. ... Herbert hasn’t thrown an interception in 11 straight games. That is tied with Brady for the longest streak in NFL history. Brady closed out the 2010 regular season for New England without being picked off after Week 5. ... S Derwin James Jr. has three tackles for loss and two sacks in his past three games. ... PK Cameron Dicker has made 65 of 66 field goals under 50 yards in his career, with his 98.5% success rate the best in league history. Dicker has made all 30 attempts inside of 50 yards at home. ... The Chargers defense allowed 17 of 31 third down conversions (54.8%) in two games against the Chiefs. They have held their other 11 opponents to 45 of 146 (30.8%). Fantasy tip The Buccaneers find ways to play shootouts, with eight of their games seeing the winner score 30 or more points. The Chargers find ways to play grinding affairs, with only two of their games seeing the winner score 28 or more points. Whoever dictates the style of play will determine how much fantasy value comes out of this game. Heartlung Technologies To Present Four Cutting-Edge Research Studies On AI-CACTM, Autobmdtm, And AI-CVDTM At RSNA 2024NoneA Florida woman who was sentenced to life in prison, four years after her boyfriend was found dead after being abandoned in a suitcase following a drunken game of hide-and-seek, has described the experience of her time in jail to a court. Sarah Boone, 47, was convicted in October on charges of second-degree murder for the death of her 42-year-old boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., in 2020. Judge Michael Kraynick, a Florida Circuit Court judge in Orlando, sentenced Boone to life in prison at a hearing on Monday. She previously rejected a plea deal that would have seen her serve a 15-year sentence on reduced charges of manslaughter. ADVERTISEMENT But moments before her sentence was handed down, Boone reflected on the more than four years she has spent in jail since her arrest. “Everyone supposes that this is one of the worst experiences of my life, and it’s actually been one of my greatest,” Boone told the court. “If I were not beaten to death, I was going to work myself to death on the outside, and I never had time to get back into my bible and to pray and to be with the Lord.” According to State’s Attorney Andrew A. Bain’s office, Boone and Torres spent the night drinking together before his death. Torres climbed into the suitcase on his own accord, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement , but Boone zipped the valise shut. Boone woke up to find Torres unresponsive in the suitcase and called 911. In an initial police report, Boone said she went to bed after leaving her boyfriend in the suitcase, thinking he could escape on his own. However, investigators later found videos recorded on Boone’s cell phone taunting him while stuck inside the suitcase. In the disturbing footage , Torres can be heard crying “help” and insisting he couldn’t breathe, while Boone laughed and hurled insults at her boyfriend—comparing his suffocation to how she felt when he choked her. Investigators also identified other injuries on Torres not related to his suffocation inside the suitcase. Boone later testified that she had beat Torres with a baseball bat while he was still inside the suitcase, fearing he would escape. In a written statement given before the court, Boone asked for forgiveness from her now-deceased partner, his family, and the judge—but also detailed physical abuse and threats she endured from Torres. Boone previously testified that her actions were in self-defense, claiming she was the victim of previous domestic violence from her boyfriend. However, the jury took only 90 minutes to return a guilty verdict, the Associated Press reported. But Boone also insisted she still loved the partner she was found guilty of killing. “I think of him every day and still speak to him when alone on the rec yard,” she said. “I ask his forgiveness and that he looks for me at gates of heaven so I can tell him how sorry I am, endlessly, and that I never stopped loving him.”

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh, the architect of transformative economic reforms, passed away in Delhi on Thursday after a prolonged illness. The 92-year-old economist was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi on Thursday evening. Singh lost consciousness suddenly at his residence on Thursday evening and was immediately rushed to the emergency department of AIIMS Delhi at 8:06 pm. In an official statement, the hospital confirmed that Singh was being treated for age-related health concerns. Despite efforts to stabilize him, he was declared dead at 9:51 pm. Singh had been facing health challenges in recent months and had largely stayed out of the public eye. His last public appearance was in January 2024 at the book launch of his daughter. Tributes Pour In Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes and wrote, "India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people's lives." Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, "Manmohan Singh Ji led India with immense wisdom and integrity. His humility and deep understanding of economics inspired the nation. My heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Kaur and the family. I have lost a mentor and guide. Millions of us who admired him will remember him with the utmost pride." Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid tributes, "Few people in politics inspire the kind of respect that Sardar Manmohan Singh ji did. His honesty will always be an inspiration for us and he will forever stand tall among those who truly love this country as someone who remained steadfast in his commitment to serve the nation despite being subjected to unfair and deeply personal attacks by his opponents. He was genuinely egalitarian, wise, strongwilled and courageous until the end. A uniquely dignified and gentle man in the rough world of politics." Manmohan Singh, India’s 13th Prime Minister, was a pivotal figure in the country’s economic transformation. Serving from 2004 to 2014, he is best known for spearheading India’s economic liberalisation in the 1990s as the Finance Minister under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. His reforms, which included dismantling the License Raj, promoting foreign investment, and encouraging privatisation, were crucial in shifting India from a stagnant, state-controlled economy to a more open and competitive market. Singh's visionary leadership not only guided India through a critical period of economic crisis but also set the stage for its emergence as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. In recent years, Singh had distanced himself from politics due to health issues and had been unwell since the start of 2024. His last public appearance was in January 2024 at the launch of his daughter’s book. He retired from the Rajya Sabha in April 2024. Manmohan Singh served two consecutive terms as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leading a coalition government under the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA). He was also the architect of India’s economic liberalisation in 1991, serving as Finance Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao government. United captain Bruno Fernandes’s red card for a second booking changed the dynamics of the match shortly after half-time, with Matheus Cunha scoring direct from a corner at a rocking Molineux. Wolves’ star man teed up substitute Hwang Hee-chan to wrap up a 2-0 win deep in stoppage time as Amorim’s 10th match in charge ended in a fifth defeat, leaving them 14th in the Premier League table. “The idea needs time,” United’s head coach said. “I said it before to you guys that this will be a tough moment and we are far from the end of this moment and that’s it. “We have to continue and focus on the next game.” Asked how long he thinks it will take to make his mark, Amorim said: “I have no idea. No idea. Instead of me trying to understand how much time it will take, just day by day. “Improving, trying to see the videos, using every minute of training and try to win some points because it’s really important in this moment.” United are closer in points to the drop zone than the Champions League places heading into their final match of a topsy-turvy 2024 at home to in-form Newcastle. “In this moment, we just have to survive and to win some time to work on the team,” Amorim said. “We already knew it. I start this job and you start with the team, a new idea, without any time to train, with a lot of games, tough games. “We already knew it, so it’s a long journey, like I said in the first day. We have to continue, and we have to fight these bad moments because this is part of football.” Put to Amorim that he cannot think of European qualification right now, he said: “No, no, no, no. “We have to work on a lot of things in our club – inside the pitch, outside the pitch – so let’s focus on each game, each time and use every minute of training and game to improve the team.” As United nurse their wounds, Wolves head to Tottenham on Sunday looking to continue their perfect start to life under Pereira as Gary O’Neil’s successor followed up an impressive 3-0 win at Leicester in style. "We need his quality!" Wolves boss Vítor Pereira is determined to keep Matheus Cunha at the club 🔒👀 #PLonPrime #WOLMUN pic.twitter.com/3KyZSQ1V9x — Amazon Prime Video Sport (@primevideosport) December 26, 2024 “Fantastic feeling,” the Portuguese said after his first home match in charge. “Special because of the spirit of the team. “Now I think we can see that the players are ready to suffer together. They are ready to run, to fight, to compete for each ball. “I feel that they have confidence to play and to win the duels to and this is most the most important for me.” Pereira’s name echoed around Molineux after a win in which Cunha was the star man, with the forward’s goal direct from a corner a key moment in the triumph. United also conceded in that manner at Spurs last Thursday, when back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir rather than Andre Onana was between the sticks. Asked if he looked at the video of that, Pereira said: “Of course we analyse every match. “We try to, I think all the staffs, try to understand the movements or the spaces that we can explore, and we try to not allow them to do it against us. This is football. Sometimes happens, other times not.”
