Ruben Amorim forces his Man United players to applaud travelling fans at full-time after new Red Devils boss is held to disappointing 1-1 draw at Ipswich
Kenny Dillingham, the 34-year-old in his second season at Arizona State, was the unanimous choice as Big 12 coach of the year after leading his alma mater to a championship and a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff. The Sun Devils (11-2) went into their league debut as the preseason pick to finish last among the 16 teams. At cornerback, Hunter had 31 tackles, tied for the Big 12 lead with 11 pass breakups and was tied for second with four interceptions. On offense, he leads the Big 12 with 92 receptions and 14 receiving touchdowns, and is second with 1,152 yards receiving. His 21 catches of at least 20 yards are the most nationally. He is also the AP's player of the year. Sanders is the Big 12 passing leader, completing 337 of 454 passes (74.2%) for 3,926 yards and a school-record 35 touchdowns with eight interceptions for the Buffaloes (10-2) Arizona State freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt, who is 11-1 as a starter, is the league’s top newcomer. The Michigan State transfer has 2,663 yards passing with 24 touchdowns and only five picks in 304 attempts. AP source: Mullen picked as UNLV coach LAS VEGAS — Former Florida and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has agreed to lead UNLV's 24th-ranked football program, two people with knowledge of the hire said Wednesday. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no announcement has been made. The 52-year-old Mullen replaces Barry Odom, who left for Purdue on Sunday after going 19-8 and helping the Rebels receive back-to-back bowl invitations for the first time in program history. UNLV will play California in the LA Bowl on Wednesday. UNLV athletic director Erick Harper wasted little time in finding Odom's replacement. Mullen, most recently an ESPN college football analyst, went 103-61 at Florida and Mississippi State. Rich Rodriguez back at West Virginia Rich Rodriguez is returning to West Virginia for a second stint as head coach at his alma mater. Athletic director Wren Baker announced the hiring on Thursday, 17 years after Rodriguez made a hasty exit for what became a disastrous three-year experiment at Michigan. “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Rich Rodriguez and his family back home,” Baker said in a statement. “Coach Rodriguez understands what it takes to win at West Virginia, and I believe he will pour his heart, soul and every ounce of his energy into our program. I am convinced Coach Rodriguez wants what is best for West Virginia, WVU and West Virginia football, and I am excited about the future of our program.” Rodriguez, who is the current coach at Jacksonville State, an architect of the spread offense and a polarizing figure in his home state, replaces Neal Brown, who was fired on Dec. 1 after going 37-35 in six seasons, including 6-6 this year. Arizona WR McMillan declares for draft TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona star receiver Tetairoa McMillan declared for the NFL draft following three stellar seasons. McMillan announced his decision Thursday on Instagram. “Now, it’s time to take the next step. ... I’m officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft,” McMillan posted. “This is only the beginning.” McMillian is Arizona's all-time leader in receiving yards, finishing with 3,423 in three seasons, and is projected to be a first-round NFL draft pick. BRIEFLY FCS: The NCAA is taking its Football Championship Subdivision title game back to Tennessee. The FCS championship games at the end of the 2025 and 2026 seasons will be played in Nashville on the Vanderbilt campus. This season’s game will be played Jan. 6 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, which will host the game for a record 15th season in a row and was set for at least two more. OC: UCLA announced Tino Sunseri’s hiring as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Sunseri replaces Eric Bieniemy, who was fired on Dec. 5 after fielding one of the nation’s worst offenses this season. Sunseri spent one season as Indiana’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after following Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti from James Madison.

Small caps poised for a rebound in 2025, says Shaw and Partners Falling interest rates could boost small cap growth Small caps offer better diversification and strong returns Shaw and Partners' 2024 stock picks have performed exceptionally well, with the investment advice and wealth management firm's 10 emerging company selections up an average of 49%, highlighted by Metro Mining's (ASX:MMI) standout 210% gain. Name Ticker YTD Return 2024 Metro Mining MMI 210% Gentrack GTK 96% FireFly Metals FFM 70% MMA Offshore MRM 65% Austin Engineering ANG 64% Silex SLX 50% AIC Mines A1M -4% Readytech RDY -15% Chrysos C79 -44% Peninsula PEN -50% Looking ahead, Shaw and Partners is even more optimistic about 2025, predicting a strong rebound for ASX small-cap stocks. With several key factors at play, the research firm believes 2025 could be the ideal time to invest in these often-overlooked opportunities. One of the most compelling reasons to invest in small caps is their recent underperformance compared to large caps. Over the past three years, small-cap stocks have lagged behind by 10% per year. This is an unusually large gap, especially when considering historical trends. Shaw and Partners research analysts point out that such underperformance has often been followed by a swift rebound when market conditions improve, particularly when interest rates start to fall. Smaller companies tend to be more reliant on external financing, so when interest rates fall, their borrowing costs decrease, giving them more room to expand. “The relative performance can mean revert quickly given favourable fundamentals,” the wealth management firm explained. “Over the past decade, there have been two periods of RBA interest rate cuts, each case resulting in Australian small cap stocks rising strongly and outperforming large caps.” Another key reason to look at small caps right now is their superior growth potential. Historically, small companies have outpaced large companies in earnings growth, as their smaller size allows them to grow faster from a smaller base. “Equity markets look forward, and consensus estimates forecast stronger EPS growth for small caps relative to large caps as the economy normalises post-Covid,” Shaw and Partners said. Small-cap stocks often have exposure to niche industries, which can lead to faster growth when conditions are right. Diversification and upside Small-cap stocks also provide greater diversification compared to large caps. The biggest stock in the ASX 100, BHP (ASX:BHP) , has a weighting of over 10%, which means its performance can dramatically impact the index. On the other hand, the largest stock in the small-cap index is Life360 (ASX:360) , which makes up just 1.6%. This means small-cap investors can access a broader range of companies across sectors, from technology to consumer products, without being overly exposed to any one company. “This diversification can help investors capture growth across a wider spectrum of the economy,” noted Shaw. Also, the firm said that small-cap managers have consistently delivered strong returns. The “median small-cap manager has outperformed their benchmark across 1, 3, 5, 10, and 15-year timeframes,” Shaw said, largely due to the inefficiencies in the small-cap market, such as lower liquidity and less analyst coverage. This creates opportunities for active managers to generate ‘alpha’ – returns that exceed the market average. Also, current valuations offer attractive entry points, particularly as small caps are trading on a 2-year forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 16.2, which is below the 17.9 P/E for large caps. Historically, small caps have traded at a premium to large caps, so this discount could represent a solid buying opportunity. Shaw and Partners’ Top 10 small cap ideas for 2025 As 2025 approaches, Shaw and Partners has selected its top 10 small-cap stocks to watch, and provided the following comments for each: Amaero International (ASX:3DA) leads in metal additive manufacturing, targeting aerospace defence, and energy sectors. Leveraging advanced materials and strategic partnerships, it benefits from re-shoring trends and increased defence spending, driving significant growth opportunities. Australian Vanadium (ASX:AVL) is developing an Australian battery industry utilising vanadium flow batteries that will be used for grid-scale storage. The energy transition requires both electricity generation and matched storage to balance the grid. Beforepay Group (ASX:B4P) is now profitable with its core pay advance lending product. B4P is using its AI algorithms for two new businesses that can double revenue by (1) supplying larger/longer personal loans and (2) supplying AI credit risk modules to US financial institutions. Bannerman Energy (ASX:BMN) is developing the Etango Uranium Project in Namibia. Etango is one of only a handful of construction ready uranium projects globally. It is a large (~215Mlb) and long life (~40 years) asset. The uranium price is expected to continue rising due to strong demand coupled with limited supply. Chrysos Corporation's (ASX:C79) proprietary photon assay technology is making mineral assays faster, more accurate and more environmentally friendly. C79 trades on FY25 EV (expected value) revenue multiple of 8.4x and we forecast a 3-year revenue CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 46%. We see considerable upside as our $7.20 PT (price target) only assumes 265 terminal units vs a current TAM (total addressable market) of 610 units. Humm (ASX:HUM) is a value investment emerging from restructuring and turning to growth. It is trading on a PE (price earnings) of 4x with earnings growth looking solid for FY25. It is Australia’s leading non-bank financial in secured asset lending to SME’s. Metro Mining (ASX:MMI) ships bauxite to China and is trading at just 3.7x PE and 1.5x EV/EBITDA in 2025. Bauxite prices are rising due to strong demand from China at a time of supply disruptions in Guinea, China and an export ban from Indonesia. Santana Minerals (ASX:SMI) is an advanced gold developer. The company is continuing to develop the 100% owned Bendigo-Ophir Gold Project in New Zealand that boasts 2.5Moz in resource. Shaw sees SMI rerate as it rapidly progresses to production whilst simultaneously continuing to explore its sizeable land package. Silex Systems (ASX:SLX) has the potential to be a generational investment, Shaw says. Its technology is "likely to revolutionise the uranium enrichment industry". There are positive catalysts in 2025 as the pilot plant proves up the technology, Cameco exercises its option to increase its stake in the joint venture and the US government provides financial support. Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (ASX:SXE) is a leading national electrical, instrumentation, communications, and maintenance services group. SXE is exposed to the electrification and decarbonisation of the economy. We are attracted to SXE due to the quality of its management and the strength of its industry tailwinds. Read moreWhen the concept of the NFL’s most dangerous offense is broached, the image that first comes to mind likely depends on the age of the beholder. It could be Dan Marino’s Miami Dolphins or perhaps Kurt Warner’s St. Louis Rams. Maybe it’s Peyton Manning’s Indianapolis Colts or Tom Brady’s New England Patriots. For the youngest observers, it’s likely Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs. Each of those units — no matter the era in which they played — had one thing in common: an explosive passing game that put video game numbers on the stat sheet week in and week out. The Detroit Lions — this year’s highest scoring NFL offense — certainly have that capability. But this is a team that very much reflects the personality of its head coach — former NFL tight end Dan Campbell. In addition to the aerial exploits of quarterback Jared Goff and his fleet of receivers, the Lions (9-1) boast the league’s third-ranked rushing offense. Two players — Jahmyr Gibbs (796 yards, eight touchdowns) and David Montgomery (595 yards, 10 touchdowns) — already have surpassed the 500-yard rushing mark, and Detroit is not afraid to get down in the trenches and bully the opposition when the situation calls for it. “We had a joint practice what, two years ago with them, and I think what stood out is that they are a physical, tough team,” Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said. “They come in with a mentality. So it starts with that. It comes from their head coach. He's done a great job with that culture. Then you look at their skillset, right? They've got two really good running backs. Their offensive line is — I mean compared to a lot of the great offensive lines that have played. “So up front, they can run the ball. They can protect. The quarterback is playing — I mean, if he has three incompletions in a game, that's a shocker to him. So they're just very effective. They're very efficient. They've got playmakers on the perimeter. ... If they don't score every series, they're upset. So very explosive that way, and it's a great challenge for us.” Indianapolis has won its last two meetings against Mahomes and the Chiefs in large part by being the more physical team on the field. The Colts ran the ball efficiently in both a 2019 victory at Arrowhead Stadium and a 2023 upset at Lucas Oil Stadium. That helped keep the Kansas City offense on the sideline, and the Indianapolis defense made some big plays at opportune times to further limit the damage. That won’t be a simple formula to replicate Sunday against the Lions. Detroit has the fifth-ranked run defense in terms of total yards and is 11th with an average of 4.3 yards allowed per carry. So keeping the ball out of the Lions’ hands will take significant effort. And when Detroit has possession, it’s absolutely lethal. The Lions average 33.6 points per game and have topped the 40-point barrier four times – including two 52-point showings in the past four weeks, against the Colts’ AFC South rivals Tennessee and Jacksonville. Detroit put up a massive 645 yards of total offense last week against the Jaguars, and its 46-point margin of victory marked the third time this year it has won by more than 35 points. This is domination often witnessed in the college game but rarely at the pro level. “Obviously, they play hard for all four quarters,” Indianapolis defensive tackle DeForest Buckner said. “They play really well together, especially offensively. On the offensive line, they do a really good job working with each other, communicating. They’ve got a lot of great skill players. They’ve probably got one of the best running back duos in the league. Obviously, Jared Goff is playing at a very high level. “So, defensively, we’ve got to be on a lot of our keys and our technique. We’ve just got to continue to communicate better and just make sure that everybody, especially in the run game, are in their gaps and their fits.” • Injury report — Left tackle Bernhard Raimann (knee) did not practice again Thursday, increasing the chances Indianapolis will again start three rookies on the offensive line. Right tackle Braden Smith (foot) was upgraded to full participation. Defensive end Tyquan Lewis (elbow) and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (back) were full participants for the second straight day. Wide receiver Josh Downs (calf) and cornerback Kenny Moore II (knee) were added to the report but were full participants Thursday. Cornerback Terrion Arnold (groin) was added a limited participant for the Lions and was the only player on Detroit’s 53-man roster who was not a full participant.

Oklahoma residents on Sunday mourned the death of former Democratic U.S. Sen. Fred Harris , a trailblazer in progressive politics in the state who ran an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1976. Harris died on Saturday at 94. Democratic Party members across Oklahoma remembered Harris for his commitment to economic and social justice during the 1960s — a period of historical turbulence. Harris chaired the Democratic National Committee from 1969 to 1970 and helped unify the party after its tumultuous national convention in 1968 when protesters and police clashed in Chicago. “Fred Harris showed us what is possible when we lead with both heart and principle. He worked to ensure everyone had a voice and a seat at the table,” said Alicia Andrews, chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Harris appeared at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago earlier this year as a guest speaker for the Oklahoma delegation, where he reflected on progress and unity. "Standing alongside him in Chicago this summer was a reminder of how his legacy continues to inspire,” Andrews said. Kalyn Free, a member of the Choctaw nation of Oklahoma and the DNC, said that there is no one else in public service whom she admired more than the former senator. “He was a friend, a mentor, a hero and my True North. Oklahoma and America have lost a powerful advocate and voice,” Free said in a statement. “His work for Indian Country will always be remembered.” “Senator Harris truly was an Oklahoma treasure and was ahead of his time in so many ways,” said Jeff Berrong, whose grandfather served in the state Senate with Harris. “He never forgot where he came from and he always remained focused on building a society that would provide equality of opportunity for all.” Harris served eight years in the state Senate before he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served another eight years before his 1976 presidential campaign. State party leaders commemorated his work on the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, or the Kerner Commission, to investigate the 1960s riots. Harris was the last surviving member of the commission. Shortly after his presidential campaign, Harris left politics and moved to New Mexico and became a political science professor at the University of New Mexico. —- Lathan is a corps member for the Associated Press/Report for America Statehouse News Initiative. Matt Gaetz says he won't return to Congress next year after withdrawing name for attorney general WASHINGTON (AP) — Matt Gaetz is not coming back to Congress. The Florida Republican said Friday he has no intention of serving another term in the House now that he is no longer President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general. Gaetz withdrew as the nominee this week amid growing fallout from the allegations of sexual conduct against him. Gaetz denies the allegations. Gaetz didn't lay out his plans now that he's out of office, saying only, “I’m still going to be in the fight, but it’s going to be from a new perch." After Gaetz's withdrawal on Thursday, Trump named former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi to lead the Justice Department. Vance takes on a more visible transition role as he works to boost Trump's most controversial picks WASHINGTON (AP) — After several weeks working behind closed doors, Vice President-elect JD Vance returned to Capitol Hill this week in a new, more visible role. He's been helping Donald Trump’s most contentious Cabinet picks try to win confirmation in the Senate, where he has served for the last two years. Vance spent part of Wednesday at the Capitol with Rep. Matt Gaetz sitting in on meetings with Trump’s controversial choice for attorney general. On Thursday, Vance was back, this time accompanying Pete Hegseth. Vance is expected to accompany other nominees for meetings over the coming weeks as he tries to leverage the two years he has spent in the Senate to help push through Trump’s picks. Beyond evangelicals, Trump and his allies courted smaller faith groups, from the Amish to Chabad Donald Trump’s lock on the white evangelical vote is legendary, but he didn't focus exclusively on large religious voter blocs. He and his allies also wooed smaller religious groups, away from the mainstream. He posted a tribute to Coptic church members on social media and met with members of Assyrians for Trump — two smaller Christian communities with Middle Eastern roots. He visited the grave of the revered late leader of an Orthodox Jewish movement. His allies sought votes from the separatist Amish community. While Trump won decisively, the outreaches reflected aggressive campaigning in what was expected to be a tight race. NATO and Ukraine to hold emergency talks after Russia's attack with new hypersonic missile KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — NATO and Ukraine will hold emergency talks Tuesday after Russia attacked a central city with a hypersonic ballistic missile that escalated the nearly 33-month-old war. Ukraine's parliament canceled a session Friday over the security threat. In a stark warning to the West, President Vladimir Putin said in a nationally televised speech Thursday that the attack with the intermediate-range Oreshnik missile was retaliation for Kyiv’s use of U.S. and British longer-range missiles capable of striking deeper into Russian territory. Putin said Russia is launching production of the Oreshnik, saying it's so powerful that several of them fitted with conventional warheads could be as devastating as a strike with strategic — or nuclear — weapons. Texas education board approves optional Bible-infused curriculum for elementary schools AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas’ education board has voted to allow Bible-infused teachings in elementary schools. The approval Friday follows other Republican-led states that have pushed this year to give religion a larger presence in public classrooms. The curriculum adopted by the Texas State Board of Education is optional for schools to adopt, but they’ll receive additional funding if they do so. Parents and teachers who opposed the curriculum say the lessons will alienate students of other faith backgrounds. Supporters argue the Bible is a core feature of American history and that teaching it will enrich learning. 2 convicted in human smuggling case after Indian family froze to death on US-Canada border FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) — A jury has convicted two men of charges related to human smuggling for their roles in an international operation that led to the deaths of a family of Indian migrants who froze while trying to cross the Canada-U.S. border during a 2022 blizzard. Harshkumar Ramanlal Patel and Steve Shand each faced four charges related to human smuggling before being convicted on Friday. Patel is an Indian national. Shand is an American from Florida. They were arrested after the family froze while trying to cross the desolate border during a 2022 blizzard. Northern California gets record rain and heavy snow. Many have been in the dark for days in Seattle FORESTVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A major storm with heavy snow and record rain that's moving through Northern California has toppled trees, closed roads and prompted evacuations in some areas after knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people in Washington and Oregon. Forecasters warn that the risk of flash flooding and rockslides will continue through Friday. The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch for areas north of San Francisco as a plume of moisture known as an atmospheric river inundates Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Up to 16 inches of rain is forecast in Northern California and southwestern Oregon. The storm system unleashed winds earlier this week that left two people dead and hundreds of thousands without power in Washington. Archaeologists discover 4,000-year-old canals used to fish by predecessors of ancient Maya WASHINGTON (AP) — Using drones and Google Earth imagery, archaeologists have discovered a 4,000-year-old network of earthen canals in what’s now Belize. The research published Friday in Science Advances shows that long before the ancient Maya built temples, their predecessors were already altering the landscape of Central America’s Yucatan peninsula. The ancient fish canals were used to channel and catch freshwater species such as catfish. These structures were used for around 1,000 years — including during the “formative” period when the Maya began to settle in permanent farming villages and a distinctive culture started to emerge. California case is the first confirmed bird flu infection in a US child Health officials are confirming bird flu in a California child — the first reported case in a U.S. minor. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced confirmatory test results on Friday. Officials say the child had mild symptoms, was treated with antiviral medication and is recovering. The child’s infection brings the reported number of U.S. bird flu cases this year to 55, including 29 in California. State officials have said the child lives in Alameda County, which includes Oakland, and attends day care, but released no other details. Giants release quarterback Daniel Jones just days after benching him EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The Daniel Jones era in New York is over. The Giants quarterback was granted his release by the team just days after the franchise said it was benching him in favor of third-stringer Tommy DeVito. New York president John Mara said Jones approached the team about releasing him and the club obliged. Mara added he was “disappointed” at the quick dissolution of a once-promising relationship between Jones and the team. Giants coach Brian Daboll benched Jones in favor of DeVito following a loss to the Panthers in Germany that dropped New York's record to 2-8.

Rakushkin has had notable success working closely with both customers and other solution providers to create widely adopted industry standards. During his time at vAuto, he designed highly effective sales and operations management processes and built a renowned national sales team. When asked about his optimism around 365's growth potential, Reidy noted, "I'm fortunate to be joining a well-established team at 365 Retail Markets, and I believe that through coaching and establishing the right processes, we can expand our opportunities immensely. I am looking forward to elevating the reach and success of this organization through the help of a world-class sales team." Joe Hessling , CEO at 365 Retail Markets, expressed his excitement about the leadership additions. "Bringing experts like Anton and Bill onto the team is essential to keep up with the intense growth we are seeing in our unattended retail business. We have heard for years that the market is tired of the lack of investment by the legacy VMS providers and the lack of consumer-focused features from the me-too payment terminal providers. Anton and Bill will be focused on being sure 365 remains the global leader for decades to come." Joe Rogan retires after 10 years with 365. While currently serving as Chief Strategy Officer, he has previously served as Chief Financial Officer and an early advisor and Board Member helping define nearly every successful initiative in the company's history. Joe will be missed greatly by his industry colleagues and friends at 365 but will remain in an advisory role in his retirement. John Chidiac's decade of service to 365 comes with many accomplishments in roles as Chief Operating Officer and later as President of International, spearheading international growth. His dedication to 365 has positioned the long-term success internationally and his relationships with many in the industry has gained him immense respect among his peers and colleagues. Hessling acknowledged their contributions, stating, "I would like to thank both Joe and John for helping me turn 365 into what it is today. Taking the leap to join over 10 years ago was a risk neither had to take and their impact on 365, me, and the industry has been something that most don't ever get the chance to do in their careers. I will miss working with them both but am happy for them in their next stage of life." Both retirements are effective December 31, 2024 and 365 Retail Markets thanks both individuals for their incredible dedication and commitment to the organization and industry. Top 10 movies of 2024: In a time of scoundrels, ‘Brutalist,’ ‘Challengers’ and the movie about the exotic dancerThe Pittsburgh Steelers -Kansas City Chiefs helped deliver historic ratings for the NFL. For the first games streamed on Netflix, the game brought in 24.1 million viewers, which is the second-most streamed game in NFL history behind only the Houston Texans -Baltimore Ravens game from later that day. The entire idea for the NFL to get games on Christmas was to sell it at a high price, and they got $150 million for these two games. On top of that, the players get a bonus from playing in these games, which means that NFLPA support for it was there. Still, it threw all four teams' plans and schedules off with three games in 11 days. Some, like the Ravens and Chiefs took to the challenges and came out of it better, but the Steelers and Texans faltered on just about all sides of the equation. Either way, the NFL has been trying to make its imprint on Christmas, and it certainly seems like they will continue to do so in the future as they rival the NBA. Rico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title with the Atlanta Braves, dies at 85The United Arab Emirates arrested three suspects they say were involved in the killing of an Israeli-Moldavan rabbi whose body was found on Sunday, days after he was reported missing in Dubai. Investigations into the murder of Zvi Kogan are still underway, the UAE Ministry of Interior said, according to state news agency WAM. “The UAE and its institutions are fully committed to safeguarding the safety and security of its citizens, residents, and visitors,” the ministry said. No detail was provided on the identity of the suspects. Security authorities in the UAE had earlier located the body of Kogan, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said, calling his apparent murder it an “abhorrent act of antisemitic terrorism.” “The State of Israel will use all means, and will deal with these murderers, and those who dispatched them, to the fullest extent of the law,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a cabinet meeting on Sunday. “None of them will get away.” Israel said it’s reinforcing its recommendation to avoid non-essential travel to the UAE. It also recommended avoiding businesses and gathering places identified with the Israeli and Jewish population, avoiding posting travel details on social media, and reducing movement. “There is concern that there is still a threat on the ground against Israeli and Jews in the area,” the National Security Council said. Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, the Israeli government has warned its citizens traveling abroad of possible attacks by Iranian or Iran-backed operatives. It’s raised the alert level in dozens of countries, including the UAE. Netanyahu said that he appreciates the cooperation of the UAE in investigating the Kogan’s disappearance and death. “We will strengthen the ties between us in the face of attempts by the axis of evil to harm the relationship of peace between us,” Netanyahu said. “We will strengthen them and we will work to expand regional stability.” Kogan, 28, had been living in the UAE as an emissary of Chabad-Lubavitch, a Jewish organization. He’d been working for several years, together with colleagues, on “establishing and expanding Jewish life in the Emirates,” including making kosher food widely available, according to a Chabad website. He was joined there by his wife, Rivky, after their marriage in 2022. “This vile antisemitic attack is a reminder of the inhumanity of the enemies of the Jewish people,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog said in a post on X. “It will not deter us from continuing to grow flourishing communities in the UAE or anywhere.” ©2024 Bloomberg L.P.
