USA News Group Commentary Issued on behalf of Oncolytics Biotech Inc. VANCOUVER, BC , Dec. 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- USA News Group News Commentary – The American Cancer Society has published its Advances in Oncology – 2024 Research Highlights , underscoring major strides in cancer research and ongoing innovation. However, the optimism is tempered by a troubling finding: a significant global rise in early-onset colorectal cancer cases . This unsettling trend comes as the medical community grapples with the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent Nature article revealed how disruptions in cancer care—particularly delays in screenings, diagnoses, and treatments—have likely exacerbated the progression of advanced disease, diminished survival rates, and complicated long-term data analysis. Still, the oncology field continues to push forward with promising developments emerging from key innovators like O ncolytics Biotech Inc. ONCY ONC , Cardiff Oncology, Inc. CRDF , Personalis, Inc. PSNL , Tempus AI, Inc. TEM , and Checkpoint Therapeutics, Inc. CKPT . The article continued: Additionally, the American Cancer Society has spotlighted an alarming rise in cancer incidence and mortality among younger age groups. Analysts at Exactitude Consultancy anticipate that the global Cancer Immunotherapy Market will expand at a robust 12.84% CAGR, reaching $258.22 billion by 2031 —a clear indicator of oncology's rapid growth and critical importance. Oncolytics Biotech® to Present Promising Pelareorep Data in Pancreatic and Anal Cancers at ASCO GI Symposium Oncolytics Biotech Inc. ONCY ONC , a leading clinical-stage company specializing in immunotherapy for oncology, today announced the presentation of two data sets through two abstracts showcasing pelareorep's potential in difficult-to-treat gastrointestinal cancers, which were accepted and will be presented at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco January 23-25, 2025 . "We are enthusiastic about pelareorep's applicability across multiple gastrointestinal cancer indications, including pancreatic and anal cancer," said Tom Heineman , M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer of Oncolytics . "Pelareorep engages patients' immune systems to help make commonly used chemotherapies and checkpoint inhibitors, such as atezolizumab, more effective in fighting cancer. This offers the promise of delaying disease progression and improving survival in patients with these devasting diseases. Given the versatility of pelareorep, we see multiple clinical and regulatory options for bringing this promising medicine to patients." Oncolytics will present two key data sets from the GOBLET study, with preliminary safety and tumor response results for the relapsed anal carcinoma cohort treated with pelareorep and atezolizumab presented in Poster Session C on January 25, 2025 , from 7:00 to 7:55 a.m. PT . Additionally, results from the safety run-in phase for first-line metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients treated with pelareorep, modified FOLFIRINOX, with and without atezolizumab will be presented in Poster Session B on January 24, 2025 , from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. PT . Both abstracts will be available on the ASCO Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium website at 5:00 p.m. ET on January 21, 2025 . CONTINUED... CRDF , a clinical-stage biotechnology company leveraging PLK1 inhibition to develop novel therapies across a range of cancers, recently announced positive initial data from CRDF-004, a randomized, Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating onvansertib in combination with standard-of-care (SoC) in patients with first-line RAS-mutated metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Efficacy and safety data are for all evaluable patients as of a November 26, 2024 , data cut-off date, and all efficacy data are determined by a blinded, independent central review (BICR) of each patient's tumor scan. "We are highly encouraged by the robust efficacy signal and favorable safety profile observed with onvansertib plus standard-of-care from the first 30 evaluable patients in our randomized first-line RAS-mutated mCRC CRDF-004 trial," said Fairooz Kabbinavar, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Officer of Cardiff Oncology . "Our data shows an objective response rate of 64% in patients receiving the 30 mg dose of onvansertib in combination with standard of care, significantly higher than the 33% objective response rate observed in the control arms of standard of care alone. In addition, as can be seen in the spider plots, we are observing deeper tumor response in patients receiving the 30mg dose of onvansertib compared to those receiving the 20mg dose with similar safety profiles for both doses." Personalis, Inc. PSNL , a developer of advanced cancer genomic tests and analytics, and Tempus AI, Inc. TEM , an AI-powered healthcare technology company, recently announced they've expanded their commercial relationship. Both companies agreed in November 2023 to collaborate and bring ultra-sensitive MRD testing to market and launched their efforts at the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. Tempus is serving as the exclusive commercial diagnostic partner for Personalis' ultra-sensitive tumor-informed MRD product, NeXT Personal® Dx, for broad patient adoption in breast and lung cancers, and for immunotherapy monitoring across all solid tumors. "While we already offer NeXT Personal through our own biopharma channel, we are pleased to leverage Tempus' integrated platform as well for these biopharma customers who desire to combine NeXT Personal with other Tempus products," said Chris Hall , CEO of Personalis . "We believe the expansion of the relationship with Tempus will accelerate market penetration of our leading ultra-sensitive MRD platform and allow us to better capitalize on the opportunity." Under this expanded relationship, Tempus will be enabled to offer Personalis' NeXT Personal MRD product to pharmaceutical and biotech customers who wish to bundle MRD testing with other Tempus offerings in a given study. Checkpoint Therapeutics, Inc. CKPT , a commercial-stage immunotherapy and targeted oncology company focused on novel treatments for patients with solid tumor cancers, recently announced that the FDA approved its UNLOXCYTTM (cosibelimab-ipdl) for the treatment of adults with metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) or locally advanced cSCC who are not candidates for curative surgery or curative radiation. UNLOXCYT is the first and only programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) blocking antibody to receive FDA marketing approval for this indication. "[This] FDA approval of UNLOXCYT – the first marketing approval for our company – is a significant milestone both for Checkpoint and for patients with advanced cSCC," said James Oliviero , President and CEO of Checkpoin t. "This approval marks Checkpoint's transformation to a commercial-stage company, with the opportunity to compete in a U.S. market estimated to exceed $1 billion annually, where we believe UNLOXCYT offers a differentiated treatment option versus available therapies by binding to PD-L1, rather than programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1), to release the inhibitory effects of PD-L1 on the anti-tumor immune response. Additionally, UNLOXCYT has demonstrated the ability to induce antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), another potential differentiating feature of the drug compared to existing marketed therapies for patients with cSCC." Harris died Saturday at age 94. He served in Congress for eight years before mounting an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1976. The Oklahoma Democratic Party commemorated his work in the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson to investigate civil unrest. Harris chaired the Democratic National Committee from 1969 to 1970 and helped unify the party after its tumultuous national convention in 1968. The former senator appeared at the Democratic National Convention earlier this year where he spoke to the Oklahoma delegation about progress and unity. Oklahoma residents on Sunday mourned the death of former Democratic U.S. Sen. Fred Harris, a trailblazer in progressive politics in the state who ran an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1976. Harris died on Saturday at 94. Democratic Party members across Oklahoma remembered Harris for his commitment to economic and social justice during the 1960s — a period of historical turbulence. Harris chaired the Democratic National Committee from 1969 to 1970 and helped unify the party after its tumultuous national convention in 1968 when protesters and police clashed in Chicago. “Fred Harris showed us what is possible when we lead with both heart and principle. He worked to ensure everyone had a voice and a seat at the table,” said Alicia Andrews, chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Harris appeared at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago earlier this year as a guest speaker for the Oklahoma delegation, where he reflected on progress and unity. “Standing alongside him in Chicago this summer was a reminder of how his legacy continues to inspire,” Andrews said. Kalyn Free, a member of the Choctaw nation of Oklahoma and the DNC, said that there is no one else in public service whom she admired more than the former senator. “He was a friend, a mentor, a hero and my True North. Oklahoma and America have lost a powerful advocate and voice,” Free said in a statement. “His work for Indian Country will always be remembered.” “Senator Harris truly was an Oklahoma treasure and was ahead of his time in so many ways,” said Jeff Berrong, whose grandfather served in the state Senate with Harris. “He never forgot where he came from and he always remained focused on building a society that would provide equality of opportunity for all.” Harris served eight years in the state Senate before he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served another eight years before his 1976 presidential campaign. State party leaders commemorated his work on the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, or the Kerner Commission, to investigate the 1960s riots. Harris was the last surviving member of the commission. Shortly after his presidential campaign, Harris left politics and moved to New Mexico and became a political science professor at the University of New Mexico. —- Lathan is a corps member for the Associated Press/Report for America Statehouse News Initiative. Shares of Trump Media and Technology Group dipped during midday trading on Friday after President-elect Donald Trump transferred his nearly 114.75 million shares, valued at approximately $4 billion into a revocable trust. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the transfer, representing over half of the company’s stock, was categorised as a “bona fide gift” to the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. It’s not clear why Trump transferred the stock. Donald Trump Jr. is the sole trustee and has sole voting and investment power over all securities owned by the trust. Trump Media shares were down about 2% at midday, to $34.68 each. At one point Friday, they were down around 6%. Trump Media shares have been extremely volatile since the company began trading in March. They reached intraday highs close to $80 on the first day of trading, then slumped to all-time lows in September when Trump and other insiders were finally allowed to sell shares after standard lock-up agreements expired. Trump has not sold any shares in the company. The company’s stock price has fluctuated wildly on news — good and bad — related to Trump. They tumbled after Trump’s conviction in a hush money trial in May, then surged after the first assassination attempt on Trump in July. They surged again after he won re-election in November, even as the company reported a $19.2 million third-quarter loss. Trump created Trump Media after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Trump said in November that he had no intention of selling his shares in the company, which owns the Truth Social media platform. Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is the sole trustee of the trust and has sole voting and investment power over securities held by it, according to the securities filings. Trump Media has a market capitalisation of around $7.7 billion as retail traders bet on the stock as a proxy of Trump winning the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Emily Andre has shared a rare glimpse of the kids she shares with Peter Andre . The 35-year-old is mum to Amelia, who will turn 10 in January, eight-year-old Theo, and baby Arabella - known as 'Belle' - who was born in April this year. Though the NHS doctor is careful not to show their kids' faces on social media, she did upload a sweet clip of the children going wild when they spotted their famous dad on the TV. Taking to her Instagram stories, Emily posted the cute video. She is heard saying 'Who's that?' as the older kids shout 'Daddy!' and baby Belle is heard making noises suggesting she recognises it's dad Pete she can see on the screen. Emily captioned the post: "Daddy's biggest fans." Pete, 51, was appearing on ITV News to talk about headlining the New Year's Parade, which will go through the streets of central London on January 1, with the singer set to perform some of his biggest hits such as Mysterious Girl, Flava, Only You and I Feel You. But just hours before he is booked to play a New Year's Eve set in Dubai, so it will be a mad dash to get back to London in time for his New Year's Day gig. Despite his career spanning 30 years, Pete revealed the last few months had been the 'busiest of my life.' He told ITV News : "At 51, I thought it was going to really slow down now, but I'm very grateful. There's lots going on." Giving fans a preview of what's to come, he continued: "I'm filming a TV drama at the moment overseas, so I'm coming backwards and forwards. Then we've got the New Year's Day Parade and New Year's Eve in Dubai. It's crazy." One of the reasons Pete is so keen to sing in the show is so his own mum and dad, who can no longer travel for health reasons and older age, can watch from Australia . He said: "Not a lot of people know this, but it's actually televised around the world . This means my mother and father can watch from Australia, which for me is a huge thing because they'll be watching me live. That for me is a massive, massive plus so I'm very honoured to do it." Though Pete has found massive success as a music artist - with his 19-year-old son Junior, who he shares with ex-wife Katie Price following in his footsteps - he revealed his first love is acting. And he's actually starred in a feature film and has more plans to act in the future. He shared: "I'm doing film at the moment. I've actually just finished my first feature film, which isn't out until next year. And we're now doing this TV drama, so I'm now moving into that area. And getting to write songs for - I've written a song for the drama and for the film. For me, that's a way of kind of evolving a bit because I don't think anyone wants to see me standing there singing the same old songs from 30 years ago constantly." Pete added: "You've got to evolve in other ways. I do try, I'm very driven and now that I've got so many children I have to make sure that I keep working to provide." As well as his three children with wife Emily, Pete shares two older kids with ex-wife Katie. They are Junior, 19, and 17-year-old Princess. Do you have a story to share? Firefighters and passengers hurt after train hits fire truck on crossing

New Democrat Leader Marit Stiles proposed the motion on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women while the government continues to study an NDP bill introduced last spring to declare an epidemic. Stiles said passing the bill would clear the way for a boost in provincial aid to overcrowded women’s shelters and other programs to fight the violence problem as high housing costs make it difficult for women to leave abusive partners. “They’re just spinning their wheels and it’s really offensive,” Stiles said, noting the NDP’s Bill 173 has been before the legislature’s justice committee since it passed second reading in April. “The reason they will not do this is very simple. They do not want to commit the resources to actually addressing the issue,” she added. Williams said the government is using the committee hearings to come up with a comprehensive plan of action, not just a declaration of an epidemic. So far, the committee has heard input from organizations in the field and will soon hear from victims and survivors. “I’ve worked in the sector for 20 years,” the associate minister added. “We know that there are things that we can be doing. And we’re government, we need to be thinking upstream. I want to address those root causes.” Critics are worried the government will call an next spring, stranding the bill, which the Progressive Conservatives after signalling they would not. “I wish the government had the same sense of urgency for intimate partner violence as it does for booze and bike lanes,” Liberal MPP John Fraser (Ottawa South) said in a reference to the government’s moves to put beer, wine, cider and pre-mixed cocktails into and control where municipalities have special lanes for cyclists. Stiles said the government should be moving to save lives now by implementing from a 2022 coroner’s inquest into the brutal 2015 murders of three women in a one-day killing spree by a shotgun-toting man in eastern Ontario.MBTA’s Red Line running at full speed through all stations for the first time in 20 yearsNone

Threads continues to roll out more updates and improvements ahead of the busy holiday season, while the announcements also coincide with a rise in interest in Bluesky . Which may or may not be related. Either way, on Friday, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced that Threads is testing out some changes to how it displays trending topics in the app, while it’s also rolling out new search filters in order to expand on its discovery elements. First off, on trending topics, Mosseri says that Threads is expanding its listing of AI-generated trends in the app, in order to add more context to what’s generating discussion. This is an example of the current Threads trending display, which was launched to all U.S. users back in March . The new listing will include more trends and more AI elements. As per Mosseri: “We’re starting a test showing more than five trending topics on Threads, and we’re using Meta AI to summarize those trends. You can get to all the content, but you can also get a little bit of a description of what’s going on.” To be clear, the trends themselves have always been determined by Meta’s AI systems, as per its original outline of the process . The only changes here are the expansion of listed trends, and the inclusion of an AI-generated summary on each, as opposed to a highlighted post related to the topic. So it’s not a radical change in process, as such, though it will make Threads trending listing much more like X’s AI-generated topic summaries: As you can see, X’s Grok-generated trend summaries provide a description of each trend, which is the same direction that Threads is now heading. Though those Grok summaries haven’t always been accurate , so it will likely take some time and testing before Threads expands this to all users. Mosseri says that this is initially being tested with a subset of U.S. users. Next up, Threads is also updating its Search element to provide more filters and tools to help you find relevant posts. “ In the new Search experience, you’ll be able to search within a specific date range or search for posts from a single account.” As you can see in this example, Threads’ updated search experience will make it easier to drill down to more specific results, which will be a big help for social media managers in particular. Improved search has been a much-requested feature, as has video viewing in landscape, which is yet another new Threads update: As per Threads engineer Tim Oliver , now, if you want to see videos on Threads in landscape format, you can just turn your phone while viewing. Which is a relatively small but also significant update, which will being Threads more into line with other online video experiences, while it’ll also make it a better medium for watching, say, sports highlights, which remains a key element that Threads needs to capture if it wants to beat out the former bird app . Though as noted, Elon’s X project doesn’t seem to be the thing that’s really occupying the Threads team’s attention at present, with the rise of Bluesky seemingly prompting at least some concern at Meta HQ. Bluesky is still much smaller than Threads , so it’s not like it poses an immediate threat, in terms of taking the real-time social crown. But the momentum shift behind Bluesky has raised eyebrows, which may have prompted Threads to get more active in rolling out its updates. Or this was all planned, ahead of an expected rise in usage over the holidays. Either way, more Threads features, and more updates to the experience, as Threads continues to establish itself as a legitimate force in the social media space.“I’m in it and I love it,” Chelsie Schweers said. “I’m getting better, and I feel myself getting more confident, and just trying to enjoy the journey.”

Despite warnings aimed at moving app developers using ChatGPT away from creating romantically programmed bots, some companies have reported huge success with online girlfriend services. One has been boasting about earning $30,000 a month from infatuated men desperately searching for love via the website FoxyAI . Artificial Intelligence explained Here's what you need to know Artificial intelligence, also known as AI, is a type of computer software Typically, a computer will do what you tell it to do But artificial intelligence simulates the human mind, and can make its own deductions, inferences or decisions A simple computer might let you set an alarm to wake you up But an AI system might scan your emails, work out that you’ve got a meeting tomorrow, and then set an alarm and plan a journey for you AI tech is often “trained” – which means it observes something (potentially even a human) then learns about a task over time For instance, an AI system can be fed thousands of photos of human faces, then generate photos of human faces all on its own Some experts have raised concerns that humans will eventually lose control of super-intelligent AI But the tech world is still divided over whether or not AI tech will eventually kill us all in a Terminator-style apocalypse "We are just now beginning to see the emergence of individuals who would rather be intimate with an AI object than another real human being," lamented Seattle-based Dr. Jantz. He has seen an increasing number of patients within the last 12 months needing help to curb digital addictions, which are treated in the same way as alcohol or drug problems. "We do know that you can create an emotional bond to that technology, to that social media, and to that AI girlfriend. "An emotional connection is made so you will go through withdrawal when that is extracted." "As a mental health expert, I don't like the direction we're going." "If you've stepped into this already, watch where it can take you," concluded Dr. Jantz. The Brightline train was stopped on the tracks, its front destroyed, about a block away from the Delray Beach fire rescue truck, its ladder ripped off and strewn in the grass several yards away, The Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported. The Delray Beach Fire Rescue said in a social media post that three Delray Beach firefighters were in stable condition at a hospital. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue took 12 people from the train to the hospital with minor injuries. Emmanuel Amaral rushed to the scene on his golf cart after hearing a loud crash and screeching train brakes from where he was having breakfast a couple of blocks away. He saw firefighters climbing out of the window of their damaged truck and pulling injured colleagues away from the tracks. One of their helmets came to rest several hundred feet away from the crash. “The front of that train is completely smashed, and there was even some of the parts to the fire truck stuck in the front of the train, but it split the car right in half. It split the fire truck right in half, and the debris was everywhere,” Mr Amaral said. Brightline officials did not immediately comment on the crash. A spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board said it was still gathering information about the crash and had not decided yet whether it will investigate. The NTSB is already investigating two crashes involving Brightline’s high-speed trains that killed three people early this year at the same crossing along the railroad’s route between Miami and Orlando. More than 100 people have died after being hit by trains since Brightline began operations in July 2017 – giving the railroad the worst death rate in the United States. But most of those deaths have been either suicides, pedestrians who tried to run across the tracks ahead of a train or drivers who went around crossing gates instead of waiting for a train to pass. Brightline has not been found to be at fault in those previous deaths.Home | Andhra Pradesh | We Will Comprehensively Resolve Land Disputes Through Revenue Meetings Ap Cm Naidu We will comprehensively resolve land disputes through revenue meetings: AP CM Naidu Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said the TDP-led NDA government will comprehensively resolve all land disputes through revenue sadassulu (meetings) across the state.
