A staggering £16 billion investment will also be coming to the wider Aberdeen region in the next decade. This investment is set to also benefit the wider city economy of Aberdeen, transitioning it to becoming a global leader among the life science sectors, energy transition and food and drink. The city council will also be making improvements to Aberdeen’s housing stock, allowing for the UK seaside city a better place to live in with plans in place to review its housing for those in different needs including sheltered housing and extra care housing. In the final weeks of President Joe Biden’s administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is announcing a jobs giveaway for newly arrived migrants with work permits. On Tuesday, Mayorkas announced a final rule from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that will allow millions of migrants, many of whom have been released into the U.S. interior by the Biden administration, to keep their work permits for up to 540 days when they seek a renewal. Migrants previously could renew their work permits for 180 days. For years, Democratic mayors had lobbied DHS to extend such automatic employment authorization for migrants. The rule will go into effect on Jan. 13, 2025. Mayorkas said in a statement the move is meant to help “businesses fill” American jobs with more migrants: Increasing the automatic extension period for certain employment authorization documents will help eliminate red tape that burdens employers , ensure hundreds of thousands of individuals eligible for employment can continue to contribute to our communities, and further strengthen our nation’s robust economy. A Dublin City Councillor who accompanied Conor McGregor to his High Court hearing on Friday, where a jury found he had assaulted Nikita Hand, has resigned as a member of his political party. Cllr Philip Sutcliffe (Sr) sat between Dee Devlin and James Lawrence as he joined McGregor’s family in the courtroom to hear the verdict read out. Sutcliffe was photographed accompanying McGregor into court on Friday alongside Devlin, McGregor’s mother Margaret, sister Aoife and father Tony. A former boxer and two-time Olympian, he has coached McGregor in the past. He defeated the outgoing Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí de Róiste, to take a seat in Dublin City Council for Ballyfermot/Drimnagh in June when he ran as an Independent Ireland candidate.
