NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police arrested on Friday a man accused of killing two people during a large parade where two separate shootings within an hour left two dead and at least 10 wounded. Curtis Gray, 19, faces two counts of second-degree murder tied to the Nov. 17 shootings along a crowded parade route, according to a news release from the New Orleans Police Department. Gray allegedly fatally shot Rasean Carter, 21, and Malachi Jackson, 19, at the Almonaster Avenue Bridge, authorities say. Carter, an aspiring photographer who lived in Marrero just across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, had planned to document the Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club’s annual outing and was accompanied by Jackson, his friend and uncle, Nola.com reported. The parade was part of New Orleans’ long-running tradition of “second-lines” where revelers follow brass bands marching through the streets and has deep ties to the city’s Black culture. The deaths of Carter and Jackson were among a series of recent lethal shootings in New Orleans. While most violence has been on the decline in the city since mid-2023 , there were three people killed and eight wounded in six shootings over the past weekend according to Nola.com . On Thursday, New Orleans police arrested two men, Darrell Fairley Jr., 18, and Cornelius G. Tillman, 19, in connection with a Nov. 30 double homicide in New Orleans East.
Brazil: US dollar pierces R$ 6 barrierSaquon Barkley rushed for 167 yards to join the 2,000-yard club and the Philadelphia Eagles clinched the NFC East title with a lopsided 41-7 victory against the visiting Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The Eagles (13-3) swept the rival Cowboys (7-9) for the first time since 2011 and locked up at least the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs. With his 11th 100-yard game of the year, Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Sitting on 2,005 yards, he needs 101 to break Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season record of 2,105 set in 16 games in 1984. Starting for Philadelphia with Jalen Hurts in the concussion protocol, Kenny Pickett tallied a touchdown pass and a touchdown run before exiting early in the third quarter with a rib injury. Tanner McKee, making his NFL debut, replaced Pickett and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown to put the Eagles up 34-7 with 2:44 left in the third quarter. McKee added a 25-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to DeVonta Smith, who finished with six catches for 120 yards and two scores. The Cowboys turned the ball over four times. Cooper Rush threw two interceptions and one touchdown pass and Rico Dowdle rushed for 104 yards to notch his first 1,000-yard season (1,007). Philadelphia built a 24-7 halftime lead by scoring 17 points off three Dallas turnovers. The Cowboys' opening drive ended in a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown by C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Rush shook off the pick-6 and fired a game-tying 4-yard TD pass to Jalen Tolbert with 5:38 left in the first quarter. Pickett's 22-yard strike to Smith put Philadelphia ahead for good at 14-7 midway through the second quarter. Jake Elliott's 31-yard field goal made it 17-7 after Jordan Davis recovered a fumble by the Cowboys' Jake Ferguson. Gardner-Johnson's second interception gave Philadelphia the ball back with 36 seconds left in the half. Smith's 49-yard catch got the Eagles to the doorstep and Pickett punched it in. Elliott's 26-yarder extended the lead to 27-7 on the first drive of the third quarter, but Pickett's day was over after absorbing a hit from Micah Parsons. --Field Level MediaIn Ireland, election officials are deeply involved in a long and intricate vote-counting process following a national election that promises to reshape the political landscape. An exit poll points to a close contest among the three primary political parties: Fine Gael, Fianna Fail, and Sinn Fein. Ballot boxes have been opened at counting centers throughout the country, heralding what is expected to be several days of intense tallying. The exit poll data suggests a broadly divided voter base, leaving the future government formation in question and potentially leading to days or even weeks of negotiations. The election has been dominated by issues such as the cost of living and housing crises, with observers noting that the election could signify a departure from Ireland's lengthy history of two-party politics. A Sinn Fein-led government could not only redefine domestic politics but also enhance pressures for a united Ireland. I’m A Celebrity viewers couldn’t contain their emotions after Danny Jones' heartbreaking moment when he reunited with his family. During Friday’s (December 6) episode of the ITV reality show, the remaining six campmates were treated with a huge surprise as their friends and family visited camp. Things took an emotional turn for Danny as his wife Georgia and son Cooper surprised the McFly singer and admitted that he ‘didn’t want to let them go’. While waiting to reunite with his dad, Cooper said: “I’m really excited to see my dad!” As Georgia added: “He’s been doing amazing, he said he wanted to make you proud didn’t he, and show you how to be brave. We think he’s achieved that.” As Danny came around the corner to see his wife and son, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Fighting back tears, he dropped down to give Cooper and Georgia a big joint hug. It appeared Cooper had gotten emotional too, as Danny asked him whilst they hugged: “Are you crying happy tears as well?” Taking a seat, he told them: “That was such a shock! Look at me!” An emotional Danny said: “That was the best surprise I think I’ve ever had in my life, just an amazing feeling.” Cooper told his dad: “Luckily you haven’t been voted out yet!” As Danny asked “Have you been telling everyone at school to vote for me?” As Cooper nodded. Danny also took the opportunity to wish his wife Georgia a happy birthday, ecstatic he could spend some time with her on her special day in the jungle. Georgia said to Danny whilst looking at Cooper: “He’s doing a smashing job isn’t he, sweetheart? We’re very proud. We’ve been watching non-stop haven’t we?” Speaking about standout moments, Georgia told him: “You as a pencil!” With Cooper in his arms, he told her and Georgia: “Honestly this place is an amazing place, even though it’s been challenging. It just makes you realise how much you love people and you put stuff into perspective.” Saying their goodbyes, Cooper hugged his dad tight for one last time as he said: “I don’t wanna let go!” Viewers watching at home were left feeling emotional at the reunion and wasted no time sharing their reaction on social media. One viewer took to X, formally known as Twitter and said: “Knew it would get me, Danny seeing Cooper #ImACeleb."
