Former President Jimmy Carter has died at his home in Plains, Georgia at the age of 100. His son, Chip Carter confirmed that the former president died about 3:45 p.m. The nation’s 39th president had been in hospice care since February 2023. After a series of short hospitalizations, Carter decided to “spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention,” the Carter Center said in a statement at the time. Carter, 100, the longest-lived American president, was a little-known Georgia governor when he began his bid for the presidency ahead of the 1976 election. He went on to defeat then-President Gerald R. Ford, capitalizing as a Washington outsider in the wake of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal that drove Richard Nixon from office in 1974. Carter served a single, tumultuous term and was defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan in 1980, a landslide loss that ultimately paved the way for his decades of global advocacy for democracy, public health and human rights via The Carter Center. The former president and his wife, Rosalynn, who died on November 19, 2023, at the age of 96, opened the center in 1982. His work there garnered a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Carter, who has lived most of his life in Plains, traveled extensively into his 80s and early 90s, including annual trips to build homes with Habitat for Humanity and frequent trips abroad as part of the Carter Center’s election monitoring and its effort to eradicate the Guinea worm parasite in developing countries. In 2015 Carter announced he had metastatic melanoma, which spread to his liver and brain. He survived through an immunotherapy treatment, but faced a series of additional health scares in 2019. He entered home hospice care on Feb. 19, and remained surrounded by his family members. At that time, his grandson Jason Carter posted on Twitter: “They are at peace and — as always — their home is full of love.”Team NI Commonwealth chief says Ulster Banner linked to race hate as he sets out rationale for dropping the flag

(AP) — The New York Giants snapped a franchise-record 10-game losing streak and ended the Indianapolis Colts’ slim playoff hopes Sunday as Drew Lock threw four touchdown passes and ran for another in a 45-33 victory. New York earned its first home win of the season and it no longer has control of the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Lock sandwiched touchdown passes of 31 and 59 yards to Malik Nabers around TD passes of 32 yards to Darius Slayton and 5 yards to Wan’Dale Robinson in leading the Giants (3-13) to their first win since beating Seattle on Oct. 6. Ihmir Smith-Marsette had a 100-yard return on the second-half kickoff on a day the league’s worst offense set a season high for points. Jonathan Taylor scored on runs of 3 and 26 yards for Indianapolis (7-9), while Joe Flacco, subbing for the injured Anthony Richardson, threw touchdown passes of 13 yards to Alec Pierce and 7 yards to Michael Pittman, the last bringing the Colts within 35-33 with 6:38 left in the fourth quarter. Lock, who finished 17 of 23 for 309 yards, iced the game by leading a nine-play, 70-yard drive that he capped with a 5-yard run. The 45 points were the most for New York since putting up 49 in a 52-49 loss to the Saints in 2015. It’s the Giants most in a win since a 45-14 rout against Washington in 2014 and most at home since a 52-27 win against the Saints in 2012. Nabers finished with seven catches for a career-high 171 yards. Flacco was 26 of 38 for 330 yards with two interceptions, the second by rookie Dru Phillips shortly after Lock’s TD run. Taylor, who rushed for 218 yards in a win over Tennessee last weekend, finished with 125 yards on 32 carries. Pierce had six catches for 122 yards. Rookies Nabers and running back Tyrone Tracy become the third pair of rookies to have more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage in the same season. The previous duo was running back Reggie Bush and receiver Marques Colston of the Saints in 2006. Injuries Colts: Richardson was inactive with foot and back injuries sustained against Tennessee. Giants: DL Armon Watts (knee) was ruled out in the first half. Forget presents, turkeys and trees, all we want for Christmas is the Doctor Who Christmas special ! Luckily, Joy to the World isn't far away now and, thanks to teasers and tidbits from writer Steven Moffat and showrunner Russell T Davies, as well as the full cast list , which has now been unveiled, we can guess and speculate about what's set to happen (to make it clear - we haven't seen the episode yet, so these are all theories). The episode will follow the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and a new character named Joy (played by Nicola Coughlan ) as they encounter a hotel chain that has capitalised on time travel to sell stays throughout history. There's a Silurian, there's a dinosaur, and there's a character named after a Bond girl. What's not to love? For now, here are some theories about what could happen in the Doctor Who Christmas special this year. Set-up of a Villengard arc in season 15? What do we know so far? There's a suitcase in the Christmas special that has something to do with the corporation Villengard. Throughout Moffat's episodes in particular, Villengard has grown in importance from a casual mention to an all-out evil in the universe, so perhaps this is the beginning of Villengard being a big bad in season 15. It certainly doesn't seem outside the realms of possibility. While Joy to the World will surely have its own self-contained story, Doctor Who Christmas specials (including the Church on Ruby Road) have often set up new mysteries and arcs - most prominently, the ongoing mystery of Mrs Flood's (Anita Dobson) identity after she first appeared in last year's Christmas special. Villengard seems like an ideal way to do that. If that does happen, we'd expect Moffat to be back to write one or more episodes in season 15 since Villengard is his beast. Although he's claimed Joy to the World could be his last episode, it's always worth taking claims like this with a pinch of salt. Maybe we'll see him back sooner than we think. A Bond connection? When looking at the confirmed character list, James Bond fans might notice a recognisable name - Sylvia Trench, played by Niamh Marie Smith. Sylvia Trench was the first Bond girl to be introduced to the hit film franchise. Originally played by Eunice Gayson, Trench appeared in the first two Bond films, Dr No and From Russia with Love, alongside Sean Connery. So, could a Bond character or a version of her appear in a Doctor Who Christmas special? Or even just a tribute to her? Doctor Who has definitely paid homage to Bond before, not least with the Jodie Whittaker story Spyfall, but this could bring it to a new level. We also know that writer Moffat is a big Bond fan, and even previously devised a 007 movie idea with fellow writer Mark Gatiss. Interesting, very interesting. A new recurring character? There's certainly precedent for a Doctor Who to introduce new recurring characters at Christmas - perhaps you could even call it a tradition. From Catherine Tate's Donna Noble to Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday, Christmas is a great time to allow audiences to fall in love with a new returning character. But we're not talking about Nicola Coughlan's Joy here. We've got our eye on Jonathan Aris's character, a Silurian hotel manager who has appeared prominently in teasers and first looks. With Doctor Who's next spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, set to focus on the Sea Devils/Silurians, could we see more of him in future? Parallel and alternate universes? The synopsis of the Christmas special says that the Doctor will have to "save Christmas, everywhere, all at once", suggesting the Time Lord might have to step outside his universe to save all of humanity... everywhere. It wouldn't be the first time a Doctor has dealt with parallel universes, and if there's one thing Moffat is keen on, it's a bit of wibbly-wobbly, time-wimey madness. Oh, there's also the little clue that Disney Plus recently gave us about the show's title. In artwork unveiled by Disney Plus to coincide with Doctor Who Day, the title is instead printed as Joy to the Worlds. While fans initially assumed that the plural 'Worlds' was an error, the Disney Doctor Who social media account replied to comments to indicate that something else is afoot. Mrs Flood? No, she's not on the cast list, but that doesn't mean a surprise appearance from Mrs Flood is definitely ruled out. After she made her first appearance in The Church on Ruby Road, last year's Christmas special, and rocking a fur coat that wouldn't be out of place in an East 17 music video, could she be back to disrupt Christmas this year? Death?! This might be a bit of a mad and morbid one, but there's always room for a bit of tragedy on TV at Christmas - just look at the soaps! The more melodramatic of us Doctor Who fans have been calling out for a bit more mortal danger in recent years, and perhaps Moffat, king of breaking Whovian hearts, will be the man to do it. Never forget Kylie Minogue's incredible death scene in Voyage of the Damned, as Astrid plunged to her death to save the Doctor. Moffat has already teased that Coughlan is set to give us a "devastating" turn as Joy in Joy to the World - so perhaps we should be fearing for her life. Merry Christmas, one and all! But the real Mo now says they have not spoken since December 2023 and claims Sir Mo reneged on a promise to get him a visa. Speaking from his home in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, the other Mo said: “Mo got what he wanted and now he doesn’t care whether I live or die. He made a lot of promises and said he would stop using my name and give me my name back. “He told me he wanted to stop living a lie, but he is still living a lie. “He said he would help me get a tourist visa so I could visit my mum in England, but I’ve spent two years waiting and nothing has happened.” Sir Mo became the world’s greatest long-distance runner winning double golds in London 2012 and Rio 2016, and shares four children with wife Tania. But his namesake’s life has been beset with tragedy. The other Mo said: “My mother left, I was left with her older sister Amina in Nairobi, and when she died from kidney failure in 2005, my world fell apart. “I wanted to become a cricketer. I went for trials for Kenya under-19s and would have had much more opportunity if I’d taken the visa and moved to England.” The other Mo only discovered his link with Sir Mo after the 2012 Olympics. He said: “Some uncles were visiting from the UK, they said, ‘Do you know the athlete, Mo Farah? Do you know he is using your name?’ I couldn’t believe it. 6 Sir Mo Farah, pictured with wife Tania, has allegedly been hounded for money by the man whose name he took Credit: Getty - Contributor “I’d watched him on TV and clapped for him when he was heading to the finish saying, ‘Go, Mo’. “I was a big fan. But even then I didn’t try to get in touch with him. “The first time we spoke was when Sir Mo’s adopted aunt Kinsi contacted me on Facebook and said, ‘‘Mo is looking for you. He is going to give you everything. He’s going to give you back your name and take you abroad’. It is not Mo’s responsibility to be looking after the son of people who mistreated him and trafficked him to the UK Source close to Sir Mo “We kept in touch by phone after that and, after the documentary came out the TV crew kept me hidden in a hotel for six weeks to make sure no one could find me. “One BBC producer even discussed making a second documentary in which I would get to meet Sir Mo in London, but that didn’t happen.” Last night sources close to Sir Mo painted a different picture of why the relationship has broken down. An insider said: “Sir Mo has sympathy. This man was also a casualty of events out of his control as a child. But it is not Mo’s responsibility. The people who were adults and responsible for them clearly didn’t do their jobs properly. “But it certainly wouldn’t be appropriate for Mo to use his influence on any UK immigration policy or process. Quite the opposite. “This isn’t Mo’s job to sort out. That said, on a personal level, Mo has been in contact with Somali Mo for a number of years. “Communication ceased in the summer when Mo had to distance himself. Anytime there’s something on Mo’s socials, when it might look like he has had some kind of financial gain, a deal with Nike or whatever, they are demanding why has he not sent money.” Last night the other Mo insisted: “I’m not a bad person. There is no way I would tell anyone to hound him. I didn’t give anyone his number so I don’t know who has been doing this. It’s not anyone in my family.
