The prominent Illawarra men urging others to stand up against domestic violenceBy Lalit Basel,Surkhet, Dec. 11: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has said that the government cannot tolerate any attempts to influence investigations and the judiciary. Amid protests by members of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) against the investigation of party president Rabi Lamichhane on charges of cooperative fraud, Minister Lekhak emphasised that attempts to influence investigations and judicial processes through street protests are unacceptable. Speaking at a press conference organised by the Nepal Press Union in Karnali Province on Tuesday, Minister Lekhak expressed concern over efforts to maneuver investigations and judicial proceedings by mobilising crowds. He clarified that there has been no violation of human rights in the context of Lamichhane’s arrest and reiterated that the government cannot tolerate such actions. He further remarked that justice cannot be achieved through mob pressure and that such behaviour is inappropriate. The Home Minister also addressed ongoing anti-constitutional and anti-system activities, asserting the need to suppress such actions. Highlighting conspiracies to destabilise the government formed with the alliance of Nepali Congress and UML, he said, “Anti-constitutional and anti-system activities have surfaced, and they must be neutralised.” He said that the conspiracies stem from attempts to derail the present coalition and destabilise governance. Regarding constitutional amendments, he informed that discussions are underway with all political parties and emphasised that any amendment would proceed only after thorough consultations. Minister Lekhak also addressed concerns about some government offices of Karnali Province being located in other provinces. He pledged to relocate them to Karnali as soon as possible. Specifically, he mentioned that some police offices currently based in Banke district of Lumbini Province could be moved to Karnali if local and provincial governments provide the necessary infrastructure such as land. On Monday, a provincial-level security meeting in Surkhet highlighted several challenges in Karnali Province. Minister Lekhak noted that issues like suicide, drug abuse, and road accidents are major concerns in the region, surpassing other criminal challenges. He instructed subordinate offices to implement measures to mitigate these problems and called for awareness programmes in schools, villages, and communities to address these issues more effectively. In another event, Minister Lekhak was urged to open border points connecting Karnali Province with China. During a meeting of the Nepali Congress Karnali Province parliamentary party on Tuesday, Minister for Social Development Ghanshyam Bhandari requested the Home Minister to facilitate the opening of these border points. Minister Bhandari argued that opening border points with neighbouring countries would significantly enhance trade of Karnali Province. Dolpa, Humla, and Mugu districts in Karnali share border with China. Minister Bhandari advocated for opening these border points to strengthen friendly relations with China and boost trade and commerce. Similarly, Nepali Congress Province President Lalit Jung Shahi also called for initiatives to open the borders and urged the Home Ministry to adopt immediate security strategies for the same.

Kyle Cameron gave Simo Valakari his most satisfying experience since he took over as St Johnstone boss. But a superb performance from the on-loan Notts County man in testing circumstances against Aberdeen is no guarantee that he will keep his place for Saturday’s visit of St Mirren. Cameron’s readiness to step in for Bozo Mikulic after the Croatian picked up an injury in the Pittodrie warm-up showed Valakari that the principles he is trying ingrain in his Saints squad are more than just words. However, the Finn treats every team selection as a blank piece of paper, meaning a rapid return to fitness for Mikulic could mean a rapid return to the bench for Cameron. “Kyle took his opportunity,” said Valakari. “Big credit to him. He was the leader of our backline in the game. “It was a statement about how I want my players to behave. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in the starting team or not – you prepare yourself and if the opportunity comes, you are ready for it. “Kyle was ready. “I said straight after the match how important it was. Normally I don’t speak too much about individuals because it’s all about the team performance. “But this was about one of our key values – and values define what type of team we will be. “It’s easy to talk about them but it’s the actions that matter. “I was so happy – it’s the most happy I have been. “If Kyle hadn’t been ready, we would have lost. In this league, at this level, if you’re not prepared and right, game day is too late. “If you’re negative in the days before the match, of course you are not ready. “I saw Kyle during the week – he was doing as I wanted him to do as an opponent for our strikers in training so we could prepare our starting line-up to be as good as possible.” On who will start the St Mirren game as Jack Sanders’ central defensive partner, Valakari added: “There is more to picking a team than just saying ‘if you play well, you keep the jersey’. “I always try to pick the best starting line-up for that individual match. “All a player can control is train well, play well and the rest is out of his hands.” “Andre trained today and Bozo has trained for a couple of days,” Valakari reported. “Because of the difficult weather conditions last week, we had been changing from a very hard artificial surface to soft grass. “The big man felt some sharp pain in his calf and he couldn’t move it. “If my players tell me they can’t play, I 100% trust them. “Big credit to our medical department. “It wasn’t something with the muscle. It was to do with the nerve and they were able to release it at the start of the week.” Saints will be without Sven Sprangler, who picked up his sixth booking at Pittodrie. “Of course, we have seen how well Sven has played,” said Valakari. “I’m disappointed for the boy because I can’t remember him making a bad tackle. “Actually, the one he got his yellow card for at Aberdeen was Champions League level defending. “It was a brilliant example of how you stop the transition of an opponent in open field – winning the ball with good body contact. “I feel that it should have been applauded rather than got a yellow card. “I’ve told Sven I would obviously rather have him available but we’re not going to waste anytime thinking about missing him. A torrid 20 minutes after half-time cost Saints dearly the last time they faced St Mirren. The players now have a chance to show they have taken their manager’s post-match observations on board. “I hope we have learned since then that every action matters,” said Valakari. “Can I get control of the ball for us? Can I get a free-kick for us? With a bit more quality we can breathe and go again ourselves. “If a spell lasts as long as it did in that game it’s almost impossible to defend.”UFC President Dana White has given an update on Conor McGregor's future with the organisation. Speaking for the first time about McGregor since a jury in a civil case ordered the MMA fighter to pay Nikita Hand almost €250,000 in damages, White seemingly cast doubt on McGregor's future with the company. When asked in the UFC 310 post-event press conference whether he had anything to say about the McGregor verdict, White replied: "What do you mean 'what's my reaction?'" before going on to say "If I had a comment, I would have put it out already." The journalist asking the question mentioned how McGregor was meant to fight in the Summer of 2024 at UFC 303 before asking White whether these events impact McGregor's future in any way, with White replying: "Well, if he does fight, it will be some time next year." 36-year-old McGregor hasn't fought inside a UFC Octagon since breaking his leg in defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021. He was due to fight in the Summer of 2024 against Michael Chandler but was forced to pull out of the contest with an injury.
