NEW YORK (AP) — Technology stocks pulled Wall Street to another record amid mixed trading. The S&P 500 rose 0.2% Monday after closing November at an all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3%, and the Nasdaq composite gained 1%. Super Micro Computer, a stock that’s been on an AI-driven roller coaster, soared after saying an investigation found no evidence of misconduct by its management or the company’s board. Retailers were mixed coming off Black Friday and heading into what’s expected to be the best Cyber Monday on record. Treasury yields held relatively steady in the bond market. The S&P 500 rose 0.2% in afternoon trading after closing its best month of the year at an all-time high . The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 86 points, or 0.2%, with a little more than an hour remaining in trading, while the Nasdaq composite was 0.9% higher. Super Micro Computer, a stock that’s been on an AI-driven roller coaster, soared 31.1% to lead the market. Following accusations of misconduct and the resignation of its public auditor , the maker of servers used in artificial-intelligence technology said an investigation found no evidence of misconduct by its management or by the company's board. It also said it doesn’t expect to restate its past financials and that it will find a new chief financial officer, appoint a general counsel and make other moves to strengthen its governance. Big Tech stocks also helped prop up the market. Gains of 1.8% for Microsoft and 2.9% for Meta Platforms were the two strongest forces pushing upward on the S&P 500. Intel was another propellant during the morning, but it lost an early gain to fall 1.1% after the chip company said CEO Pat Gelsinger has retired and stepped down from the board. Intel is looking for Gelsinger’s replacement, and its chair said it’s “committed to restoring investor confidence.” Intel recently lost its spot in the Dow Jones Industrial Average to Nvidia, which has skyrocketed in Wall Street's frenzy around AI. Stellantis, meanwhile, skidded following the announcement of its CEO’s departure . Carlos Tavares steps down after nearly four years in the top spot of the automaker, which owns car brands like Jeep, Citroën and Ram, amid an ongoing struggle with slumping sales and an inventory backlog at dealerships. The world’s fourth-largest automaker’s stock fell 6.3% in Milan. The majority of stocks in the S&P 500 likewise fell, including California utility PG&E. It dropped 3.7% after saying it would sell $2.4 billion of stock and preferred shares to raise cash. Retailers were mixed amid what’s expected to be the best Cyber Monday on record and coming off Black Friday . Target, which recently gave a forecast for the holiday season that left investors discouraged , fell 1.6%. Walmart , which gave a more optimistic forecast, rose 0.3%. Amazon, which looks to benefit from online sales from Cyber Monday, climbed 1.3%. The stock market largely took Donald Trump’s latest threat on tariffs in stride. The president-elect on Saturday threatened 100% tariffs against a group of developing economies if they act to undermine the U.S. dollar. Trump said he wants the group, headlined by Brazil, Russia, India and China, to promise it won’t create a new currency or otherwise try to undercut the U.S. dollar. The dollar has long been the currency of choice for global trade. Speculation has also been around a long time that other currencies could knock it off its mantle, but no contender has come close. The U.S. dollar’s value rose Monday against several other currencies, but one of its strongest moves likely had less to do with the tariff threats. The euro fell amid a political battle in Paris over the French government’s budget . The euro sank 0.7% against the U.S. dollar and broke below $1.05. In the bond market, Treasury yields gave up early gains to hold relatively steady. The yield on the 10-year Treasury climbed above 4.23% during the morning before falling back to 4.19%. That was just above its level of 4.18% late Friday. A report in the morning showed the U.S. manufacturing sector contracted again last month, but not by as much as economists expected. This upcoming week will bring several big updates on the job market, including the October job openings report, weekly unemployment benefits data and the all-important November jobs report. They could steer the next moves for Federal Reserve, which recently began pulling interest rates lower to give support to the economy. Economists expect Friday's headliner report to show U.S. employers accelerated their hiring in November, coming off October's lackluster growth that was hampered by damaging hurricanes and strikes. “We now find ourselves in the middle of this Goldilocks zone, where economic health supports earnings growth while remaining weak enough to justify potential Fed rate cuts,” according to Mark Hackett, chief of investment research at Nationwide. In financial markets abroad, Chinese stocks led gains worldwide as monthly surveys showed improving conditions for manufacturing, partly driven by a surge in orders ahead of Trump’s inauguration next month. Both official and private sector surveys of factory managers showed strong new orders and export orders, possibly partly linked to efforts by importers in the U.S. to beat potential tariff hikes by Trump once he takes office. Argentina: A Phoenix RisesWASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland announced Monday that he will run to become the top Democrat on the powerful House Judiciary Committee next year, directly challenging fellow Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler as the party prepares to fight a second Trump administration and an emboldened Republican majority. "House Democrats must stand in the breach to defend the principles and institutions of constitutional democracy," Raskin wrote in a letter to colleagues. “That is our historic assignment now. We dare not fail.” Raskin said in the letter — obtained by The Associated Press — that he decided to run for the post after spending the week consulting with House Democrats and “engaging in serious introspection” about where the party is following their stunning electoral defeat last month that handed Republicans control of Congress and the White House. While currently the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Raskin said that come next year, the Judiciary Committee under his leadership would become "the headquarters of Congressional opposition to authoritarianism" as well as other efforts by President Donald Trump and his allies to thwart the Constitution. Being the face of the resistance against Trump is not new territory for Raskin who spent the last two years on Oversight as the most vocal defender of President Joe Biden and his family as they faced a sprawling Republican investigation — encouraged by Trump — into their various business affairs. Raskin, who is a former constitutional law professor, also helped draft articles of impeachment against the incoming president for his encouragement of the violent mob on Jan. 6, 2021, and led the impeachment prosecution in the Senate. But by throwing his hat in the ring, Raskin is inviting what a bitter intra-party fight with Nadler, who is currently serving his 17th term in Congress and who has held the top spot on Judiciary since 2019. Democrats have over the years rarely broken from the seniority system for committee assignments, no matter how long someone has held a position, making the outcome of the race uncertain. Both men did not respond to requests for comment but Raskin closed his letter by praising Nadler, saying that he made this decision “with respect and boundless admiration” for him. “If I’m lucky enough to be chosen for this responsibility in the 119th Congress, I will turn to Jerry first and throughout for his always wise counsel and political judgment,” Raskin added.

Bowling Green earns 87-62 win over AquinasThe Week 13 college football slate featured some incredible matchups, most notably in the SEC and Big Ten. A few of these matchups included No. 2 Ohio State versus No. 5 Indiana, No. 7 Alabama versus Oklahoma and No. 3 Texas versus Kentucky. While much of the attention is turned toward the powerhouse conferences, there was an interesting matchup down south. The UAB Blazers hosted the Rice Owls in Week 13, heading into matchup having won two games in the entire 2024 season. Despite the season struggles they played a phenomenal game, defeating Rice 40-14. Journalist and photographer Reid Scott posted a picture of the crowd at Protective Stadium on social media, mentioning that the Blazers had a great performance, but it didn't come with too many fireworks. Protective Stadium can accommodate around 42,000 fans. It's a relatively new venue, originally being built from 2020 to 2021 with around a $200 million investment. Former Rockstar Games developer Mike York has chimed in on all the fan theories about GTA 6’s second trailer and what the studio really thinks about the rampant speculation. For over one year , GTA fans have anxiously waited for Rockstar to reveal more information about GTA VI ever since the first trailer made its record-breaking debut . In the time since, fans have poured over every social media post , screenshot, in-game update, and just about anything GTA-related for hints at when the next trailer will be unveiled. Time and time again, these theories have failed to come to fruition – but now, a former dev at Rockstar who worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 has revealed the truth about these teases. Former GTA dev says Rockstar “trolls” fans with teases In a new YouTube video, York explained that Rockstar is extremely secretive and said that this actually helps them out, because it creates more “allure” towards what is being worked on. “It creates allure and it creates mystery and it creates people talking about [GTA 6] without them having to do anything,” he said. “The more they’re silent, the better it is, because the more people will be antsy and want to talk about it and have this feeling of not knowing what’s going to happen.” According to York , Rockstar is specifically keeping the trailer date vague, because it’s all a marketing tactic that creates wild fan theories. The ex-dev pointed to the GTA Online moon phase theory . Basically, in 2023, the Moon Festival event ended up aligning with the actual moon on December 5, 2023. This was the date that the first GTA 6 trailer released, so players instantly took that as a sign that history could repeat itself. “What’s cool about this stuff is Rockstar can capitalize on it, and if someone has some big theory, even if they didn’t do it on purpose, they can come in and make it look like they did this thing on purpose a long time ago,” he said. “It’s really neat. In a way, this brings the fans together.” Related: York further added how people always dive into these theories and the devs “geek out” about it behind the scenes, noting how a lot of these things are “trolls.” “It’s a mystery to nowhere. It’s just to have you dig and search for stuff and find it, but even though it won’t lead to something, it’ll bring a chase and a journey for players for years to come and it’s really cool.” The dev ended his video by saying he hopes that players will continue to look for signs, because when he used to work for Rockstar, he found it cool to see all the theories people would come up with. It’s not clear if York’s comments will affect the amount of GTA 6 theories on the net, but with the game still slated to release in Fall 2025 , we’ll have to see what the future holds and if any of these conspiracies end up having a shred of truth to them.

Three factors explain the JMM’s big victory – it is the biggest ever in the state’s history – in these elections: complete consolidation of its core constituency among Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters, better outreach among non-ST voters with a wider alliance, identity agnostic welfare schemes, and some external help from a nativist party making its debut which hurt the BJP alliance far more than the JMM alliance. Let us take the 28 ST reserved assembly constituencies . The JMM led alliance has won 27 of them this time. This is the third time in a row the JMM alliance has increased its seat count in the ST reserved ACs at the cost of the BJP. Because, the JMM led alliance had pretty much all of the ST reserved ACs in 2019 as well, a better measure of its growing dominance in the ST reserved ACs is its vote share which has increased from 43% to 51% between 2019 and 2024. See Chart 1: But even wining all the ST ACs would have not given the JMM a majority in the state. This is exactly what happened in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The JMM led alliance won all five of the ST reserved parliamentary constituencies (PCs) but the BJP led alliance won the remaining nine PCs. This is why the real story of these elections is the JMM alliance’s performance in the remaining 53 ACs. Not only has the alliance won a 55% seat share in these ACs, it is for the first time that the JMM has won more non-ST reserved ACs than the BJP in the state’s history. Clearly, the allies also played their role. Both the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have improved their strike rates compared to the 2019 assembly elections. The new entrant to the alliance, the Communist Party of India Marxist Leninist Liberation or CPI ML also won two of the four ACs it contested. Both of them had gone to the BJP in the last election. While it is difficult to provide statistics, the cash transfer scheme Maiya Samman Yojna must have played a part in this wider appeal of the JMM among non-ST voters who would have been more concerned about tangible gains than questions of identity or dignity. See Chart 2: Last but not the least is the tailwind from a disruptor in these elections. The Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) made its debut in these elections and contested 68 ACs. The JLKM has been founded by Jairam Kumar Mahato, who is primarily interested in mobilising the Mahato (Kurmi) voters in the North Chotanagpur sub-region of the state. While Jharkhand does not have caste-wise demographic data, Mahatos are believed to be a politically important demography in these parts. The JLKM has managed to win just one AC, but it played spoiler in 14 ACs. A seat is considered to be lost to other parties playing spoiler if the party finishing third has more vote share than the victory margin. Of the 17 seats the BJP alliance has lost to spoilers, the JLKM was the spoiling party in 11. Three of these had been given to the BJP ally All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) which until now was considered to be the main political front of Mahato voters. AJSU has won just one of the 10 ACs it contested. To be sure, the JLKM also spoilt three seats for the JMM alliance . While the JMM alliance has gained from the JLKM’s debut in the state’s politics in these elections, the party could change the course of Jharkhand’s politics in the future.

Washington wasn’t sure what option he was on the play. he certainly wasn’t first. Probably not even second. Maybe not even third. Washington was on the back side all by his lonesome while a sea of wide receivers and running backs zig-zagged across quarterback Russell Wilson’s field of vision. Only, Wilson didn’t like what he saw. Not enough to throw it anyway. So he pivoted to his left and found Washington wide open for a big gain. Asked if he was surprised to find the ball in his hands, Washington nodded. “A little bit,” he said. “I don’t know. I don’t know what was going on with the other people.” Wilson did. What began with throwing sessions in San Diego has morphed into team dinners and Friday nights where Wilson and first-year offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will hole themselves up in the team facility poring over tapes and bouncing ideas off each other until their wives call wondering where they are. On game days, that work manifests itself in various ways. It’s tight end Pat Freiermuth drifting toward an open area while Wilson scrambles, as he did two plays after Skowronek’s grab for a 25-yard touchdown. It’s Wilson calling an audible at the line of scrimmage late against Cincinnati to hit Van Jefferson for a 43-yard gain that led to a clinching field goal. It’s not just good for the stat sheet, it’s good for the vibes. “Morale is a big part,” Smith said. Guys who want to be invested. Spreading it around is beneficial in a myriad of ways. It means players don’t feel they are “decoys on every play,” as Smith put it. It also means once you put it on film, it means opponents have to find a way to defend it. And the more things an opponent has to defend, the better for an offense, particularly one led by a quarterback who will make his 195th start on Sunday when Cleveland (3-9) visits. “Russ has seen every coverage,” Skowronek said. “He’s ran all these concepts before. So he knows progressions like probably the back of his hand.” Besides, Wilson knows he can’t just preach about the importance of being unselfish without practicing it a little bit too. That means giving opportunities to those who have worked for it, no matter where they might fall on the depth chart. “I think that the best part about it is that we’re all super close,” Wilson said. “And I think that bond is really everything too, and just the understanding of each guy and the relationships that we have together, it’s fun. We’re having a great time.” It sure looks like it. The Steelers are averaging a healthy 28.7 points since Wilson recovered from a calf injury that forced him to watch the first six games from the sideline.
