LAS VEGAS — Formula 1 on Monday at last said it will expand its grid in 2026 to make room for an American team that is partnered with General Motors. "As the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence. It's an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world's premier racing series, and we're committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world," GM President Mark Reuss said. "This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM's engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level." The approval ends years of wrangling that launched a U.S. Justice Department investigation into why Colorado-based Liberty Media, the commercial rights holder of F1, would not approve the team initially started by Michael Andretti. Andretti in September stepped aside from leading his namesake organization, so the 11th team will be called Cadillac F1 and be run by new Andretti Global majority owners Dan Towriss and Mark Walter. The team will use Ferrari engines its first two years until GM has a Cadillac engine built for competition in time for the 2028 season. Towriss is the the CEO and president of Group 1001 and entered motorsports via Andretti's IndyCar team when he signed on financial savings platform Gainbridge as a sponsor. Towriss is now a major part of the motorsports scene with ownership stakes in both Spire Motorsports' NASCAR team and Wayne Taylor Racing's sports car team. Walter is the chief executive of financial services firm Guggenheim Partners and the controlling owner of both the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and Premier League club Chelsea. "We're excited to partner with General Motors in bringing a dynamic presence to Formula 1," Towriss said. "Together, we're assembling a world-class team that will embody American innovation and deliver unforgettable moments to race fans around the world." Mario Andretti, the 1978 F1 world champion, will have an ambassador role with Cadillac F1. But his son, Michael, will have no official position with the organization now that he has scaled back his involvement with Andretti Global. "The Cadillac F1 Team is made up of a strong group of people that have worked tirelessly to build an American works team," Michael Andretti posted on social media. "I'm very proud of the hard work they have put in and congratulate all involved on this momentous next step. I will be cheering for you!" The approval has been in works for weeks but was held until after last weekend's Las Vegas Grand Prix to not overshadow the showcase event of the Liberty Media portfolio. Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive championship in Saturday night's race, the third and final stop in the United States for the top motorsports series in the world. Grid expansion in F1 is both infrequent and often unsuccessful. Four teams were granted entries in 2010 that should have pushed the grid to 13 teams and 26 cars for the first time since 1995. One team never made it to the grid and the other three had vanished by 2017. There is only one American team on the current F1 grid — owned by California businessman Gene Haas — but it is not particularly competitive and does not field American drivers. Andretti's dream was to field a truly American team with American drivers. The fight to add this team has been going on for three-plus years, and F1 initially denied the application despite approval from F1 sanctioning body FIA. The existing 10 teams, who have no voice in the matter, also largely opposed expansion because of the dilution in prize money and the billions of dollars they've already invested in the series. Andretti in 2020 tried and failed to buy the existing Sauber team. From there, he applied for grid expansion and partnered with GM, the top-selling manufacturer in the United States. The inclusion of GM was championed by the FIA and president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who said Michael Andretti's application was the only one of seven applicants to meet all required criteria to expand F1's current grid. "General Motors is a huge global brand and powerhouse in the OEM world and is working with impressive partners," Ben Sulayem said Monday. "I am fully supportive of the efforts made by the FIA, Formula 1, GM and the team to maintain dialogue and work towards this outcome of an agreement in principle to progress this application." Despite the FIA's acceptance of Andretti and General Motors from the start, F1 wasn't interested in Andretti — but did want GM. At one point, F1 asked GM to find another team to partner with besides Andretti. GM refused and F1 said it would revisit the Andretti application if and when Cadillac had an engine ready to compete. "Formula 1 has maintained a dialogue with General Motors, and its partners at TWG Global, regarding the viability of an entry following the commercial assessment and decision made by Formula 1 in January 2024," F1 said in a statement. "Over the course of this year, they have achieved operational milestones and made clear their commitment to brand the 11th team GM/Cadillac, and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time. Formula 1 is therefore pleased to move forward with this application process." Yet another major shift in the debate over grid expansion occurred earlier this month with the announced resignation of Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei, who was largely believed to be one of the biggest opponents of the Andretti entry. "With Formula 1's continued growth plans in the US, we have always believed that welcoming an impressive US brand like GM/Cadillac to the grid and GM as a future power unit supplier could bring additional value and interest to the sport," Maffei said. "We credit the leadership of General Motors and their partners with significant progress in their readiness to enter Formula 1." Get local news delivered to your inbox!BOULDER, Colo. TORONTO (AP) — Hannah Miller scored a power-play goal with 1:38 remaining in the game, lifting the Toronto Sceptres to a 3-1 victory over the Boston Fleet in the Professional Women’s Hockey League season opener on Saturday. With Boston standout Hilary Knight in the penalty box for a vicious boarding penalty on Sceptres defender Renata Fast, Miller made good on her rebound attempt on a shot by Daryl Watts with a half-open net. Fast recovered for an assist on the winner before 8,089 fans at Coca-Cola Coliseum. The Fleet challenged the goal, but video review deemed Miller’s shot was good. Sarah Nurse got Toronto on the board with a short-handed tally 11:50 into the first period and Emma Maltais added an empty-net strike with 12 seconds left. Boston’s Hilary Knight opened the scoring 3 minutes in, sending a slap shot past Toronto goalie Kristen Campbell, who registered 18 stops on the night. Toronto outshot Boston 41-19. Boston goalie Aerin Frankel, a big reason why her team advanced to the Walter Cup final last spring, had 38 saves. Takeaways Sceptres: Billie Jean King MVP Natalie Spooner missed the season opener. The PWHL scoring champion underwent left knee surgery in June after getting injured in Game 3 of Toronto’s first-round series against Minnesota. Fleet: Defender Emma Greco played her first game for Boston. She was part of the Walter Cup-winning Minnesota team that defeated Boston in a three-game series last spring. Key moment With the game tied 1-1, the Sceptres failed to score during a 59-second 5-on-3 advantage midway through the second period. Boston blocked five shots during the span. Key stat Last year, Toronto enjoyed an 11-game win streak en route to its regular-season championship, including three wins against Boston. Up next Boston will play its home opener on Wednesday, a rematch with the Walter Cup-champion Minnesota. Toronto visits Ottawa on Tuesday. ___ AP women’s hockey: https://apnews.com/hub/womens-hockey

NoneColorado U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert broke new ground over the weekend when she became the first sitting member of Congress to offer personalized messages for sale — starting at $250 — through . The Windsor Republican, who won election to this month after moving across the state, started the account Saturday. The website allows customers to buy personalized video messages from celebrities. On Monday morning, Boebert advertised her messages starting at $250, though she stopped taking requests by 10:45 a.m. mountain time. “Whether you or someone you know needs an America-first pep talk, if you want to surprise friends or family with a message for a special day, or if you just want to know my thoughts on whatever’s on your mind, Cameo is the place to connect with me,” Boebert says in an introductory video. Brandon Kazimer, a Cameo spokesperson, confirmed that the account belonged to Boebert. Boebert’s office declined to comment Monday. Kazimer said she’s the first sitting member of Congress to sign up for the service as talent. At least two other former members of Congress, George Santos of New York and Matt Gaetz of Florida, have sold videos on the platform. Santos soon after he was expelled from Congress last year over allegations he for personal financial gain. Gaetz, who is a friend of Boebert’s, Friday, days after he withdrew his nomination by President-elect Donald Trump to be the U.S. attorney general following that he paid a teenage girl for sex. Boebert does not appear to have advertised the service on her other social media accounts on X or Facebook. will limit how much Boebert can earn from the videos. In 2023, members were limited to making $31,815 in outside income beyond their annual $174,000 salaries. She will have to report any earnings from Cameo on her annual disclosures. The law also prohibits people from using their public office to make outside money, said Kedric Payne, a vice president and senior director of ethics for the Campaign Legal Center. Ultimately, the restriction is meant to give voters confidence that elected officials aren’t using public office for personal gain — or putting that gain ahead of their public service. Boebert describes herself on Cameo as “Not your typical Colorado Republican politician. Jesus loving, Constitutionalist, America first, freedom fighter.” An earlier version of her Cameo page listed Boebert as a politician and categorized her as a political commentator, but it was updated to list her under the influencers category. Because she doesn’t use her title or appear to use other facets of her public job for the videos, such as filming in her congressional office, “that should take away any concern she’s trying to use her public job for personal gain,” Payne said. He added that the limit on outside income also anticipates these kinds of problems by limiting the incentive for members to spend more effort on outside business ventures than their public service. But, he noted, people can cross that line quickly if it’s not clear if they’re acting in their public or private capacity. The earned income that’s subject to the annual cap is considered separate from passive income made through things like stock market investments, Payne said, because it is actively made by selling goods and services. “We’ll be watching to see if this becomes a trend,” Payne said of the Cameo side work. “If this is just a one-off where someone does this for a month or so, that’s one thing — but if it becomes a trend, where members of Congress are trying to act as influencers and get paid, that could point to a bigger problem.”

With the Dolphins ahead 31-7 over the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon in the fourth quarter at Hard Rock Stadium, Mike McDaniel unloaded the bench and sent the backups in. After all, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense had basically had their way with their AFC East rivals for most of the day. With a short week ahead, it made sense to get their starters some rest. Well, that is until backup QB Skylar Thompson couldn't get the handoff executed with Jaylen Wright, leading to a fumble that the Patriots returned for a touchdown to turn a blowout into a two-score game. GONE-zo went 62 yards for the TD! : CBS pic.twitter.com/3ipg1qHazL The result? Tua Tagovailoa came back on the field and helped avoid disaster. But, then again, that's what he's been doing over the last few weeks. Bailing out this team after mishaps. And Tua has shown during that time - and during his time on injured reserve with a concussion - just how very invaluable he is to the Miami Dolphins franchise. Just why the team handed him a 4-year, $212.4 million extension during training camp. Of course, Tua was able to help close out the game, as the Dolphins won 34-15 and improved to 5-6 on the season, their third straight win since he returned from IR. And Sunday was his best performance of the season. He completed 29/40 attempts for 317 yards with 4 touchdowns and no turnovers. It wasn't just the numbers. It was the playbook opening up completely, with everything on the table for Mike McDaniel. Because there are very, very few quarterbacks in the league who can put the football in a specific spot and at a specific moment like Tagovailoa can do. And that includes what Miami had on its roster. Skylar Thompson couldn't do it. Tyler Huntley couldn't either. Tim Boyle, no shot. However, in retrospect, that pretty much that would have been the case for the majority of quarterbacks the Dolphins brought in this offseason. And even among starting-caliber quarterbacks, it's hard to see many who could operate Mike McDaniel's offense with the accuracy and timing that Tua possesses, which are far and away the strengths of his game. And those have been on full display over the last three weeks. It's been a great stretch for this Dolphins team, who are now finally looking like what many hoped they would this season. But Tua's high quality of play has proven that Chris Grier's decision to invest in him was a wise one - as has the sting of his absence. Men lose 17 minutes of life with every cigarette they smoke while a woman’s life is cut short by 22 minutes with each cigarette, experts have estimated. This is more than previous estimates, which suggest that each cigarette shortens a smoker’s life by 11 minutes. The new estimates, which suggest that each cigarette leads to 20 minutes loss of live on average across both genders, are based on more up-to-date figures from long-term studies tracking the health of the population. Researchers from University College London said that the harm caused by smoking is “cumulative” and the sooner a person stops smoking, and the more cigarettes they avoid smoking, the longer they live. The new analysis, commissioned by the Department for Health and Social Care, suggests that if a 10-cigarettes-a-day smoker quits on January 1, then by January 8 they could “prevent loss of a full day of life”. By February 20, their lives could be extended by a whole week. And if their quitting is successful until August 5, they will likely live for a whole month longer than if they had continued to smoke. The authors added: “Studies suggest that smokers typically lose about the same number of healthy years as they do total years of life. Make 2025 the year you quit smoking for good. Public health minister Andrew Gwynne said: “Smoking is an expensive and deadly habit and these findings reveal the shocking reality of this addiction, highlighting how important it is to quit. “The new year offers a perfect chance for smokers to make a new resolution and take that step.” Commenting on the paper, Professor Sanjay Agrawal, special adviser on tobacco at the Royal College of Physicians, said: “Every cigarette smoked costs precious minutes of life, and the cumulative impact is devastating, not only for individuals but also for our healthcare system and economy. “This research is a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address cigarette smoking as the leading preventable cause of death and disease in the UK.”When Stella Xing travelled to Vancouver on Nov. 13 to renew her U.S. work visa, she expected it to be a brief visit. Xing holds a Chinese passport and the United States requires that foreign nationals renew their work visas at a consulate or embassy outside of the country. For Xing, who works at a financial technology company in Seattle, the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver seemed like the most convenient option. But nearly two weeks later, she remains stuck in the city, waiting for her passport to be returned with its fresh work visa approval. "My visa got approved, and it was issued on Thursday," Xing told CBC News. She said she had expected to have her passport back by Friday, Nov. 15, but that was the day the Canada Post strike began. More than 55,000 postal workers across the country walked off the job more than a week ago, stating key concerns over wages, contract work, job security, benefits and working conditions. Xing said she's feeling anxious about the situation. "I don't know when the strike will end." She said the unexpected postal disruption has left her unable to return to the U.S., and that the costs of staying in B.C. are adding up. "I pay more than $100 US every day just for my Airbnb and my food, and also I'm paying my rent in Seattle." Others in similar situations share Xing's frustration. Haoyuan Cao, who works for a global tech company in Seattle, says he might even lose his job. "It took me a long time to get this job, I worked really hard for [it]," he said. "U.S. tech companies tend to have very strict in-person policy and I haven't been to the office for about two weeks now, so [human resources] might give me a warning if I don't go back to the office next week." Haoyuan Cao, who works at a tech company in Seattle, says he is worried he might lose his job as he has been stranded in Vancouver for nearly two weeks. (CBC) Both Cao and Xing have joined a WeChat group with dozens of others like them waiting for key documentation that they're now unable to access. The labour disruption is affecting numerous foreign nationals and Canadians awaiting passport renewals, new passports or updates to their immigration status. Earlier this week, Service Canada said it has been on mailing out 85,000 passports due to the strike. Employment and Social Development Canada said that "in anticipation of a potential labour disruption," Service Canada stopped mailing passport packages on Nov. 8 — a week before Canada Post workers walked off the job. Canadians who already have submitted an application and need a passport urgently can make a request in person to have their passport transferred to a Service Canada centre that offers pickup service. But foreign nationals like Cao and Xing don't have that option. Xing said her passport is held at Canada Post's processing facility in Richmond, while others were meant to collect their documents at a downtown Vancouver branch. Despite several attempts, none have been able to retrieve their passports. In a statement to CBC News, the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver acknowledged the issue and expressed sympathy for those affected. It advised applicants to use alternate delivery services as "visas cannot be picked up directly from the consulate." Canada Post, meanwhile, has said that mail and parcels in its network are secure and will be delivered on a "first-in, first-out basis" once operations resume. The Crown corporation is also warning of service delays once the strike comes to an end, as it deals with a backlog. "This is a difficult situation, and we sympathize," Canada Post spokesperson Valérie Chartrand said in a statement to CBC News. "Unfortunately, [the union's] decision to launch a national strike means mail and parcels were trapped in the system without warning to customers." CBC News reached out to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for comment but did not receive a response before publication.

Fine dining trends rebound post-pandemic, with 22 Prime leading New Year celebrations In 2024, steakhouses emerged as the culinary equivalent of samgyeopsal from previous years, dominating food trends in the Philippines. Over the course of the year, Manila Bulletin chronicled the openings and reinventions of numerous steak joints, each vying to stand out in a crowded field. Among the highlights was the launch of Carmelo’s Steakhouse at Rockwell’s Proscenium by Chef Cristina Santiago. Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, already a familiar name in the Philippines, expanded its footprint with a new location in Boracay. Peter Zwiener, the restaurateur behind Wolfgang’s, also debuted Il Lupino at Opus Mall, an Italian concept featuring exceptional steaks alongside Mediterranean fare. Melo’s, the classic and well-loved steakhouse now in its 36th year, introduced a refreshed menu in 2024. The trend culminated in the grand opening of Morton’s The Steakhouse in Uptown Bonifacio Global City, cementing the year as a steakhouse renaissance. The appeal of steakhouse dining Steakhouse dining is defined by its simplicity and focus on high-quality cuts of beef, meticulously prepared and paired with classic sides and sauces. Beyond the food, these establishments are renowned for their attentive service and sophisticated ambiance, creating a complete dining experience. Food trends, much like fashion, are inherently cyclical. Consider denim—once the attire of laborers, now a luxury item gracing high-fashion runways. In a similar vein, steakhouses have journeyed from special-occasion destinations in the ’70s and ’80s to everyday indulgences. Decades ago, dining out was reserved for significant milestones: graduations, anniversaries, or first dates. Today, a steak dinner is just as likely to be a spontaneous decision, reflecting an era of affluence and a willingness to invest in quality dining experiences. For many Filipinos, steakhouses were more than just places to eat—they were formative experiences. Parents would bring their children to learn table etiquette, navigating an array of cutlery and interacting with waitstaff. Establishments like Prince Albert Rotisserie at the InterContinental Manila in Makati (now the location of One Ayala) offered not just prime rib and Yorkshire pudding but also lessons in decorum and sophistication, introducing young diners to a world beyond home-cooked meals. The resurgence of steakhouses in 2024 can also be attributed to the lingering effects of the pandemic. During lockdowns, food trends revolved around home-created and deliverable goods such as sourdough bread, Basque burnt cheesecakes, ube pandesal, sushi bakes, and specialty ice creams like Kurimu. As restrictions eased, people sought opportunities to reconnect, socialize, and enjoy fine dining experiences once more. The return to steakhouses represents not just a craving for expertly grilled steaks but also a celebration of shared moments in elegant settings. 22 Prime: A steakhouse to ring in the New Year While 2024 has seen an influx of new players, Manila Bulletin recommends revisiting a classic: 22 Prime. Located in Discovery Suites in Ortigas, this steakhouse balances tradition and innovation, offering a dining experience that hearkens back to the golden age of steakhouse culture. For those planning a memorable New Year celebration, 22 Prime presents a curated holiday menu that highlights its signature dishes. One of the restaurant’s most enticing offers is the “Unlimited Steak All Day” promotion, available Fridays through Sundays. Priced at P2,950+ per person, the deal includes unlimited servings of ribeye steak for three hours, alongside soup, salad, two sides, dessert, and a glass of wine. At a recent media dinner, diners were treated to perfectly cooked ribeye, served in a refreshingly simple style reminiscent of old-school steakhouse dining in the Philippines. The straightforward presentation—succulent steak accompanied by accessible sides—evoked nostalgia while delivering exceptional quality. The ribeye itself is a highlight, renowned for its marbling and tenderness. Cooked to perfection, it strikes a balance between juiciness and a well-charred exterior. Side dishes such as creamy mashed potatoes and buttered vegetables further enhance the meal, while a decadent dessert and a fine glass of wine provide a satisfying finale. Beyond the menu, 22 Prime’s ambiance elevates the dining experience. With floor-to-ceiling windows offering sweeping views of the city, the restaurant’s elegant yet relaxed setting creates an atmosphere perfect for celebration. The renewed interest in steakhouses like 22 Prime reflects a growing preference for indulgent dining experiences. For a New Year’s celebration that combines exceptional food, stunning views, and a touch of nostalgia, 22 Prime is an ideal choice.

Ralph-Beyer puts up 20, Sacred Heart defeats Manhattanville 100-60Retailers coax Black Friday shoppers into stores with big discounts and giveaways NEW YORK (AP) — Retailers in the U.S. have used giveaways and bigger-than expected discounts to reward shoppers who ventured out on Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving still reigns for now as the unofficial kickoff of the holiday shopping season even if it’s lost some luster. Analysts reported seeing the biggest crowds at stores that offered real savings. They say many shoppers are being cautious with their discretionary spending despite the easing of inflation. Stores are even more under the gun to get shoppers in to buy early and in bulk since there are five fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. Online sales figures from Thanksgiving Day gave retailers a reason to remain hopeful for a lucrative end to the year. Inflation rose to 2.3% in Europe. That won't stop the central bank from cutting interest rates FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Inflation in the 20 countries that use the euro currency rose in November — but that likely won’t stop the European Central Bank from cutting interest rates as the prospect of new U.S. tariffs from the incoming Trump administration adds to the gloom over weak growth. The European Union’s harmonized index of consumer prices rose 2.3 percent, up from 2.0% in October, according to EU statistics agency Eurostat. However, worries about growth mean the Dec. 12 ECB meeting is not about whether to cut rates, but by how much. Market buzz says there could be a larger than usual half-point cut in the benchmark rate, currently 3.25%. The ruble's in a slump. For the Kremlin, that's a two-edged sword Russia’s ruble is sagging against other currencies, complicating the Kremlin’s efforts to keep consumer inflation under control with one hand even as it overheats the economy with spending on the war against Ukraine with the other. Over time a weaker ruble could mean higher prices for imports from China, Russia's main trade partner these days. President Vladimir Putin says things are under control. One wild card is sanctions against a key Russian bank that have disrupted foreign trade payments. If Russia finds a workaround for that, the ruble could regain some of its recent losses. From T-shirts to thongs, how indie film merchandise became a hot commodity LOS ANGELES (AP) — Merchandise is nothing new. But in recent years, movie-inspired streetwear has exploded in popularity among film buffs, thanks in part to viral marketing campaigns put on by independent film studios. Take the hourslong line for one-day-only “Anora” pop-up in Los Angeles, for instance. Clothes are promoted as trendy and in limited supply and are often made in collaboration with popular brands. The experience of watching movies has become a less collective one in recent years. For many fans, repping their favorite films in public is a way to combat that. Stock market today: S&P 500 and Dow post gains and close out best month of 2024 NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks closed with solid gains as Wall Street put the finishing touches on one of its best months of the year. The S&P 500 rose 0.6% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 188 points, or 0.4%. The Nasdaq added 0.8%. Friday was an abbreviated trading day, with stocks closing at 1 p.m. ET and the bond market an hour later. Investors were looking to see how much shoppers are willing to spend on gifts for the holidays. Black Friday unofficially kicked off the holiday shopping season, although retailers had been offering early deals for weeks. Macy’s and Best Buy each gained around 2%. Vietnam approves $67 billion high-speed railway project between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Vietnam has approved the construction of a high-speed railway connecting the capital Hanoi in the north with the financial capital of Ho Chi Minh in the south. It is expected to cost $67 billion and will stretch 1,541 kilometers (957 miles). The new train is expected to travel at speeds of up to 350 kph (217 mph), reducing the journey from the current 30 hours to just five hours. The decision was taken by Vietnam’s National Assembly on Saturday. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and Vietnam hopes that the first trains will start operating by 2035. But the country has been beleaguered by delays to its previous infrastructure projects. Massachusetts lawmakers push for an effort to ban all tobacco sales over time BOSTON (AP) — A handful of Massachusetts lawmakers are hoping to persuade their colleagues to support a proposal that would make the state the first to adopt a ban meant to eliminate the use of tobacco products over time. Other locations have weighed similar “generational tobacco bans.” The bans phase out the use of tobacco products based not just on a person's age but on birth year. Lawmakers plan to file the proposal next year. If approved, the bill would set a date and ban the sale of tobacco to anyone born after that date forever, eventually banning all sales. Santa's annual train visit delivers hope and magic to one corner of coal country ON BOARD THE SANTA TRAIN (AP) — Since 1943, the people of Appalachian Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee have looked forward to Santa’s arrival. Not in a sleigh on their rooftops, but on a train. At each stop of the CSX Santa Train there are dozens to hundreds of people. Many crowd around the back, where Santa and his helpers toss stuffed animals. Meanwhile groups of volunteer “elves” fan out with gifts, making sure every child goes home with something. Many of the children who line the tracks on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, waiting for Santa, are the third, fourth or fifth generation to do so. Sandra Owens has been coming for 43 years and now brings her grandchildren. She says, “The faces of the kids, that’s what makes me happy. You can’t see anything better.” Donald Trump's call for 'energy dominance' is likely to run into real-world limits WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump is creating a National Energy Council that he says will establish U.S. “energy dominance” around the world. It will be key in Trump’s pledge to sell more oil to allies and his intent to move away from President Joe Biden’s focus on climate change. But the president-elect’s energy wishes are likely to run into real-world limits. For one, U.S. oil production under Biden is already at record levels. F1 expands grid, adds Cadillac brand and new American team for '26FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — If Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh has given any thought to the possibility of clinching a playoff berth in his first season with the team with a win at New England on Saturday, he isn't letting it show. “Just attacking, that’s our mindset. Win the next game," he said. Harbaugh's relative silence on the topic isn't a total departure from his usual business-first approach, but there could also be something else at play. Aside from wrapping up what would be Harbaugh’s fourth postseason trip in five years as an NFL head coach, since the Chargers (9-6) have the tiebreaker over the Denver Broncos but not against the Pittsburg Steelers, Los Angeles would appear destined to be the sixth seed in the postseason. That would mean a trip to Baltimore and a possible Harbaugh Bowl 4 matchup opposite older brother and Ravens coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens beat the Chargers earlier this season 30-23. But first things first. And that's taking care of the Patriots (3-12), who have lost five straight games but showed several signs of offensive improvement during their 24-21 loss at Buffalo last week. Jim Harbaugh sees a dangerous group. And his players say they are locked in on the present. “Always one week at a time. We’ve got a lot of respect for this Patriots team," Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert said. "We know we’re going on the road and have to be prepared for everything.” If the Patriots are going to play the role of spoiler, it must start with rookie quarterback Drake Maye. He has thrown a touchdown pass in seven consecutive games, tied with Jim Plunkett (1971) for the longest such streak by a rookie in franchise history. But he has also thrown at least one interception in each of the past seven games. Overall, the Patriots have a minus-9 turnover margin. The Patriots did score 14 points in the first half during last week’s loss at Buffalo. Still, New England's offense has had trouble finishing drives, scoring touchdowns on only 47.7% of its chances in the red zone. Maye said that doesn't mean he plans to be timid over the final two games. “I think there’s definitely a way we need to cut down turnovers,” he said. “That starts with me protecting the football and throwing it incomplete or throwing it in the dirt or little things like that. I’m still going to be aggressive.” The Chargers could have a major weapon return in running back J.K. Dobbins, who has been on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury against Baltimore on Nov. 25. With Dobbins out of the lineup, the Bolts have struggled to have any consistency on offense. Los Angeles has averaged only 74.8 rushing yards in the past four games, which is quite a drop from the 118.1 they were generating before Dobbins’ injury. Dobbins was listed as questionable, while Gus Edwards — who rushed for two touchdowns and a season-high 68 yards in last Thursday’s win over Denver — was ruled out with an ankle injury. Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins would likely take over in the backfield if Dobbins also can't play. Justin Herbert, who has 20,466 career passing yards, needs 153 yards to surpass Peyton Manning for the most in a player's first five seasons in league history. Ladd McConkey is 40 yards away from becoming the first Chargers rookie receiver to reach 1,000 yards since Keenan Allen in 2013. The Chargers have won 11 of their past 13 when playing in the Eastern time zone, including last year’s 6-0 victory over the Patriots. Los Angeles has five of its nine games on Eastern time this season for the first time since 2005. They are trying to become the ninth team since 1988 on Pacific time to win at least four games when having to travel at least three time zones. The Chargers have given up two touchdowns and a field goal on the first possession in the last three games. They allowed only one touchdown on an opening drive in the first 12 games. Another cause for concern is that the Bolts have given up scores on the first two series in back-to-back games. AP Sports Writer Joe Reedy in Los Angeles contributed to this report.
