Hezbollah, which has previously vowed to respond to attacks on Beirut by targeting Tel Aviv, said it had launched precision missiles on Sunday at two military sites in Tel Aviv and nearby. Police said there were multiple impact sites in the area of Petah Tikvah, on the eastern side of Tel Aviv, and that several people had minor injuries. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said a direct hit on a neighbourhood had left "houses in flames and ruins". Television footage showed an apartment damaged by rocket fire. Israel's military said Hezbollah had fired 250 rockets at Israel, of which many were intercepted, with sirens sounding across most of the country. At least four people had been injured by shrapnel. Israel's military warned on social media that it planned to target Hezbollah facilities in southern Beirut before strikes that demolished two apartment blocks, according to security sources in Lebanon. Afterwards, the IDF said it had hit command centres "deliberately embedded between civilian buildings". On Sunday, the Israeli military said it carried out strikes against 12 Hezbollah command centres in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh. On Saturday, it had carried out one of its deadliest and most powerful strikes on the centre of Beirut. Lebanon's health ministry on Sunday raised the death toll from 20 to 29. It said a total of 84 people had been killed on Saturday, taking the death toll to 3754 since October 2023. The IDF did not comment on Saturday's strike in the Lebanese capital or say what it had attacked. Israel went on the offensive against the Iran-backed Hezbollah in September, pounding the south, the Bekaa Valley and Beirut's southern suburbs with airstrikes after nearly a year of hostilities ignited by the Gaza war. The Israeli offensive has uprooted more than one million people in Lebanon. Israel says its aim is to secure the return home of tens of thousands of people evacuated from its north due to rocket attacks by Hezbollah, which opened fire in support of Hamas at the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. US mediator Amos Hochstein highlighted progress in negotiations during a visit to Beirut last week, before travelling to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz, before returning to Washington. European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Sunday said a US ceasefire proposal was awaiting final approval from Israel. "We must pressure the Israeli government and maintain the pressure on Hezbollah to accept the US proposal for a ceasefire," he said in Beirut after meeting Lebanese officials. Israeli media reported that Netanyahu had convened a meeting of his security cabinet for Monday. Axios reporter Barak Ravid in a post on social media cited an unnamed Israeli official saying that Israel is moving towards a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. But a separate report from Israel's public broadcaster Kan said there was no green light given on an agreement in Lebanon, with issues still yet to be resolved. Diplomacy has focused on restoring a ceasefire based on UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended a 2006 Hezbollah-Israel war. It requires Hezbollah to pull its fighters back around 30km from the Israeli border, and the Lebanese army to deploy in the buffer zone. The Lebanese army said on Sunday at least one soldier had been killed and 18 more injured in an Israeli strike that caused severe damage at an army centre in Al-Amiriya near the southern city of Tyre. The Israeli military said it regretted the incident and was investigating, and that it was fighting against Hezbollah, not the Lebanese Army. Lebanon's caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, said the attack "represents a direct bloody message rejecting all efforts to reach a ceasefire, strengthen the army's presence in the south, and implement ... 1701". Reaves scores 20 points as Iona secures 79-73 victory over ColgateRanchi, Nov 23 (PTI) Despite the BJP-led NDA throwing all its weight to snatch Jharkhand from the hands of a JMM-headed coalition, the saffron camp suffered a debacle leaving the party's rank and file wondering what had gone wrong. Top BJP leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma canvassed aggressively, but the NDA did not project any CM candidate, as its campaigns mainly focused on “infiltration from Bangladesh” and “corruption” during the Hemant Soren regime. Also Read | Maharashtra Assembly Elections Results 2024: PM Narendra Modi Calls CM Eknath Shinde, Congratulates on Mahayuti's Win. About 200 rallies were addressed by BJP leaders including about two dozen by Shah and PM Modi who also held mega road shows including one in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi drawing huge crowds. The NDA won just 24 of the 81 seats it contested. Also Read | Maharashtra Assembly Poll Results Unexpected, Incomprehensible; Something Fishy, Says Uddhav Thackeray. The BJP contested in 68 seats and won 21. Its ally managed to get only one of the 10 seats it fought in the elections. In that constituency, Mandu, the party won by a slender margin of 231 votes. BJP's two other allies, JDU and LJP(Ram Vilas) bagged two and one seats respectively. Contradicting exit polls, Hemant Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) registered victory in 34 seats of the total 43 it contested. A source in the state BJP claimed that failing to project a tribal CM's face in the polls cost it dearly. Another leader claimed the entire show was run by “two leaders from outside” and the state BJP gave tickets to leaders who came from other parties, ignoring its own. BJP's sitting legislator Kedar Hazra along with former minister Louis Marandi joined JMM accusing dejection by party leaders just ahead of the polls. Political analyst Dr Bagish Chandra Verma told PTI that BJP failed to address issues linked to the masses during its entire campaign which was concentrated on national issues and ‘infiltration' which the rural people failed to connect. Besides, Muslims, Christians and tribals which were the traditional vote bank of the JMM, women were added to its fold because of schemes like ‘Maiyan Samman Yojna' promising Rs 2,500 financial aid to women in the age group of 18-50 years from present Rs 1,000, said Verma, head of the department of political science at Ranchi University. Women voters outnumbered men in 68 of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand. Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) too played a spoilsport seizing a sizeable chunk of votes harming BJP and AJSU Party like in Chandankiyari where Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Amar Kumar Bauri not only lost to Umakant Rajak of JMM but could occupy only third spot. The JLKM won the Dumri seat. (This is an unedited and auto-generated story from Syndicated News feed, LatestLY Staff may not have modified or edited the content body)

By Burnett Munthali Malawi is currently facing several interwoven challenges: Firstly, the country’s economy is teetering under the weight of rising inflation, a depreciating currency, and skyrocketing commodity prices. The cost of living has become unbearable for many, with basic necessities slipping out of reach for ordinary Malawians. Secondly, allegations of corruption continue to erode public trust. High-profile scandals and perceived inaction against corrupt officials have fueled frustration among citizens, raising questions about the government’s commitment to accountability. Sadly, the dissatisfaction has spilled into the streets, with protests becoming a common occurrence. Citizens are demanding better services, transparent governance, and meaningful economic reforms. Fourthly, the ruling Tonse Alliance if not the lonely ruling MCP is under strain, with internal divisions and opposition parties gaining momentum as they capitalize on the public’s discontent. The government’s handling of these crises will determine its credibility moving forward. To regain control, it must address key areas: Bold economic policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and supporting vulnerable populations are urgently needed. Stimulus packages, subsidies for essential goods, and policies to attract foreign investment could offer some relief. Malawi is experiencing a severe fuel crisis that has been there for weeks, yet the President, Pastor Lazarus Chakwera, continues to focus on pageantry and empty platitudes. This fuel crisis stems from a shortage of foreign exchange, a consequence of a failing economy driven by... pic.twitter.com/7A6J9m5qvL Swift and decisive action against corruption will be critical. High-profile prosecutions and institutional reforms could help rebuild trust in governance. The government must engage the public openly, acknowledging the challenges while outlining clear, actionable solutions. Citizens need reassurance that their leaders are both aware of their plight and actively working to address it. Failure to respond effectively risks plunging Malawi into deeper turmoil. Public frustration could escalate, leading to widespread unrest and a further erosion of government legitimacy. Political opponents, sensing weakness, may intensify their efforts to discredit the administration, potentially destabilizing the political landscape further. In conclusion, the crises confronting Malawi are daunting, but they also present an opportunity for the government to prove its mettle. Leadership is not about avoiding challenges but navigating through them with vision, decisiveness, and integrity. As analysts have pointed out, the coming months will test whether the government can rise to the occasion or risk losing its grip on the nation’s future. Recent developments indicate a significant shift with the introduction of new technologies that enhance the gaming experience for Linux users. As major developers release high-profile games with Linux support, gamers are witnessing a revolution that many deemed unlikely just a few years ago. Innovations like Steam Deck have accelerated this trend. Valve’s portable gaming device is designed to run Linux, proving the platform’s potential to handle mainstream gaming demands. The Proton compatibility layer, a key component in this evolution, allows Windows-exclusive games to be played smoothly on Linux. This technology minimizes the barriers between game developers and Linux enthusiasts, fostering a more inclusive gaming ecosystem. Moreover, game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine are increasingly supporting Linux. This expansion means indie and AAA developers can more easily target Linux alongside other major platforms. As a result, Linux gaming libraries are growing, attracting more users who value open-source environments. Looking ahead, the horizon for Linux gaming appears promising. Expect further hardware innovations and partnerships between tech giants and Linux distributors, enabling smoother experiences and pushing performance boundaries. With the gaming landscape becoming more diverse, Linux stands as a pivotal player, promising exciting developments and more inclusive access for gamers worldwide. How Linux is Quietly Transforming the Gaming World The gaming industry is witnessing a transformative shift as Linux emerges as a formidable platform for gamers and developers alike. This evolution is fueled by a series of groundbreaking innovations and collaborations that promise to redefine the future of gaming. ## Steam Deck and Proton: A Game-Changer for Linux Valve’s introduction of the Steam Deck has proven to be a pivotal moment for Linux gaming. This portable gaming device is fundamentally altering how mainstream audiences perceive the platform’s capabilities. By being rooted in Linux, the Steam Deck showcases the potential for seamless gaming experiences that rival traditional systems. A crucial component of this transformation is the Proton compatibility layer, which bridges the gap between Windows-exclusive games and Linux. Proton’s ability to allow smooth gameplay of these titles has eroded longstanding barriers, inviting more developers and players into the Linux ecosystem. ## Expanding Horizons with Game Engine Support Major game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine now offer robust support for Linux. This development opens doors for both indie and AAA game developers to include Linux in their platform lineup without excessive hurdles. As these engines continue to evolve, they ensure that Linux gaming libraries swell with diverse titles, gradually attracting a growing community of gamers who appreciate open-source systems. ## Linux Gaming: Pros and Cons Pros: – Open-Source Flexibility : Linux offers an open-source environment that encourages creativity and customization, appealing to a tech-savvy audience. – Performance and Stability : Many find Linux to be a stable and efficient platform that can effectively harness gaming hardware’s potential. – Cost-Effective : Generally free, Linux provides an economical alternative to paid operating systems. Cons: – Learning Curve : New Linux users may face a challenging learning curve, especially when setting up drivers and games. – Compatibility : While Proton and game engine support have improved, not all games and hardware are fully compatible with Linux. – Limited Native Titles : Despite growing libraries, the number of games with native Linux support still lags behind other platforms. ## Market Analysis and Future Predictions The market analysis indicates a trend toward increased adoption of Linux in gaming, heralded by milestones like the rise of Steam Deck and expanded engine support. Analysts predict that by 2025, Linux will carve out a significant share of the gaming market, driven by strategic partnerships with tech companies and continuous improvements in hardware compatibility. ## Conclusion Linux is steadily ascending as a mainstream gaming platform, challenging longstanding industry norms. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has approved the Burman family 's proposed open offer to acquire an additional 26% stake in New Delhi-based Religare Enterprises (REL), sources familiar with the matter said. Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also gave its approval to the offer by the promoter family of Dabur . With approvals from stock exchanges, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the Competition Commission of India (CCI), RBI, and Sebi, all clearances are now in place for the Burmans to proceed with the open offer. The Burman family is expected to announce its offer in the next few days, with a target launch in mid-January, sources cited above said. This open offer could potentially result in a change in management control of the non-banking finance company (NBFC). An email query sent to Sebi, the Burmans, REL and JM Financial , the banker for the open offer, did not elicit any response until Sunday press time. The Burman family, currently the largest shareholder in Religare with a stake of around 25%, announced the open offer in September 2023 to increase its stake and take control of the company. Sebi directed Religare in June to submit the Burman family's open offer proposal to the regulators within 15 days. The open offer, announced initially at ₹235 per share, amounts to ₹2,116 crore in all for the additional stake. If successful, it would raise the Burman family's total stake in the New Delhi-based NBFC to well above 50%, effectively granting it majority control. However, the stock, which has surged 38% in the last six months compared to the Nifty's 0.5% gain, is currently trading at ₹310 per share. The Burman family first invested in Religare by subscribing to share warrants which initially represented around a 10% stake. These warrants were later converted into equity. Over time, the Burmans increased their stake to approximately 22% before announcing plans to acquire an additional 5% through the secondary market. This move triggered the open offer for an additional 26% stake. Nominations for ET MSME Awards are now open. The last day to apply is December 15, 2024.
