The wheat, corn, soybean oil, and high-fructose corn syrup in the bun, the cattle feed for the beef, the tomatoes in the ketchup, the processed cheese, and even the potatoes and corn oil the fries are cooked in are all subsidized by taxpayers. There are also a ton of additives, food dye, and other garbage in these products—and in many of the foods you find in grocery stores—that negatively impact our health. All of this is enabled by policies that sail through Congress, regardless of which party is in power, thanks to the lobbying power of massive food, agriculture, and health care special interests. I've watched as these policies, decade after decade, have turned us into a sick country. WASHINGTON – A person accused of accosting U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in a Capitol Office building pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor assault charge. Witnesses told police that James McIntyre, 33, of Chicago, shook Mace's hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” manner after approaching the South Carolina Republican in the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening, according to a police affidavit. She said she was “physically accosted” at the Capitol, and she thanked President-elect Donald Trump for calling her Wednesday morning to check on her condition. “I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside,” Mace wrote. Mace declined to be treated by a paramedic after her encounter with McIntyre, who was arrested Tuesday by the Capitol Police, the affidavit says. That means winning their remaining games at home against Carolina and New Orleans, while the Atlanta Falcons lose at least once in the final two weeks of the regular season. The Bucs (8-7) and Falcons share the best record in the division, however Atlanta holds the tiebreaker after sweeping the season series between the teams. Tampa Bay, which has won three consecutive division titles, is the only NFC team that has made the playoffs each of the past four seasons. “We’ve got to take care of business or else we’ve got no shot,” quarterback Baker Mayfield said after a 26-24 loss at Dallas cost the Bucs control of the NFC South race. “This one, we've got to take it on the chin,” Mayfield added. “It's a short week. Yes, that made you a fraud to me,” Clark said. Rodgers responded (on McAfee’s show) by insisting that anyone who criticizes him must declare their vaccine status, because, in his mind, any criticism of him, as a celebrated anti-vaxxer, must come from being a pawn in the pharmaceutical industry’s push of Covid vaccines and others. Clark, who is vaccinated, has sickle cell trait, has had his spleen removed, and is immunodeficient, he says. So getting vaccinated against Covid is possibly life-saving for him, not political. Widespread criticism of Rodgers couldn’t have anything to do with his play during a 4-11 season — which has led to the head coach’s firing, the offensive coordinator’s demotion and just one 300-yard passing game, could it? By making any criticism about vaccines and political issues, Rodgers is trying to shield himself from legitimate raps from NFL analysts, who say that he isn’t the quarterback he once was, Clark said on The Stephen A. Smith Show . “I said a million times to you on your show, I think he’s the best quarterback I’ve ever played against,” Clark said. “But that doesn’t in any way negate what we’re seeing from him now — and the arrogance, the smugness, the entitlement he displays as a person when it comes to people who object or people who see things differently than him ... I mean, I’m just tired of it. “And I’m tired of people allowing him to say whatever the hell he wants to say, whenever the hell he wants to say it, without in any way pushing back.” (That final line was Clark firing at McAfee, an ESPN colleague who chuckled at Rogers’ comments.) Clark insists he doesn’t have the luxury of getting personal or using “vaccination, partisanship, or whatever to try to ignore the facts,” as Rodgers has. Clark added that he felt compelled to respond again because Rodgers used ESPN — which produces McAfee’s show — to attack an ESPN employee. “I am an NFL analyst, so in responding to Aaron Rodgers, I need to be able to respond with facts,” Clark said. “I can’t just come out and insult his fashion, I can’t just come out and say things that make zero sense like, ‘State your vaccination status.’ I don’t get to do that. I have to be factual. “Instead of saying ‘Ryan Clark is wrong about me being hypocritical because of X, Y and Z,’ [or] ‘Ryan Clark is wrong to call me arrogant because of X, Y and Z’ ... that is what athletes will do now. They don’t have to combat you with facts, because ... [they are] more popular than I am,” Clark said. However, with projections indicating an inevitable supplementary budget next year, concerns are growing over the potential spillover of economic uncertainties into the bond market. "Currently, the bond market's focus is on the supplementary budget," Eugene Securities analyst Kim Ji-na said. "Next year's supplementary budget is expected to further strain the supply of long-term bonds." The amount of government bond issuance anticipated next year already reached a record-high of 197.6 trillion won. In addition, the government plans to issue up to 20 trillion won in won-denominated foreign exchange stabilization bonds to bolster external credibility and stabilize the currency market. As a significant portion of the supplementary budget will be financed through government bond issuance, this additional supply is expected to place further pressure on the bond market. The increase in government bond issuance could drive up bond yields, raising borrowing costs for businesses and households in need of essential funds. Kim noted that while a supplementary budget itself is not unprecedented and would not surprise the market, the key issues are the amount and the timing of its implementation. "The upcoming supplementary budget could exceed 10 trillion won, driven by the political imperative of stabilizing livelihoods and the need to defend against economic growth falling below 1 percent. Depending on the next ruling party, it may not be limited to a single round," Kim said. Calls for a supplementary budget in 2025 gained momentum as the country's economy continues to struggle. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers have traded guard D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets for forward Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Shake Milton. The Lakers also sent forward Maxwell Lewis and three second-round draft picks to Brooklyn on Sunday. Russell averaged a career-low 12.4 points for the Lakers this season in a diminished role under new coach JJ Redick, who had vowed to unlock the point guard's formidable offensive game. Instead, Russell was removed from the starting lineup in early November, and he struggled to make a consistent impact as a reserve, with his shooting percentages declining significantly from his previous two seasons back in Los Angeles. The 6-foot-7 Finney-Smith isn't a top scorer, but he is a steady 3-and-D wing who fills an obvious need for the Lakers. Los Angeles has had inconsistent wing play and has lacked an effective defender at the key position during the long-term injury absence of Jarred Vanderbilt , who hasn't played since Feb. 1. Finney-Smith averaged 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds while hitting a career-best 43.5% of his 3-point attempts this season for the Nets, who acquired him from Dallas in the February 2023 in the trade of Kyrie Irving . Milton is joining his sixth NBA team in less than two years, including his third trade in 11 months. He is averaging 7.4 points and 2.4 assists this season as a Nets reserve. Russell is being traded by the Lakers to the Nets for the second time in his career. He also made the move in 2017 after spending his first two NBA seasons with Los Angeles, which drafted him in 2015. Russell earned the only All-Star selection of his career during his two seasons in Brooklyn. Russell has been traded five times in the past 7 1/2 years. The 10-year pro excelled for the Lakers during their run to the 2023 Western Conference finals after returning to the team in February of that season, although he got benched during that final playoff series against Denver. Russell remained a fairly consistent scorer last year while setting a new franchise record for 3-pointers made in a season, but his career-long problems with offensive inconsistency and defensive ability kept him out of Redick's plans this year. With Russell's departure, Gabe Vincent is the only true point guard left in the Lakers' rotation, although LeBron James often fills the role of initiating their offense. The Lakers (18-13) have won five of six heading into their visit from Cleveland on New Year's Eve. The trade continues a roster restructuring by the Nets, who traded former Lakers point guard Dennis Schröder to Golden State two weeks ago. Schröder was Brooklyn's third-leading scorer, while Finney-Smith was its fourth-leading scorer. The Nets have been one of the NBA's lowest-scoring teams this season, so Russell should have plenty of chances to make an offensive impact. Brooklyn has lost three of four heading into its road game against Orlando on Sunday. Russell's $18.7 million contract expires this summer, while Finney-Smith has a $15.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season. Ties, scrunchies and scarves made of red, green, gold and blue-patterned plaid — a design by Hugh Kirkwood Rankine that was added to the Scottish Register of Tartans in the ’60s and received royal assent to become an official emblem in Manitoba that decade — are for sale. “The red squares of the pattern represent the Red River Settlements, near what is now Winnipeg,” per an information card about the provincial tartan. It states that green is symbolic of local natural resources, gold is a reference to the agriculture industry, and blue represents the Earl of Selkirk, Thomas Douglas, whose Scottish family clan tartan has blue lines. Every new shop employee participates in a tour of the legislature to orient themselves and learn about the history of Manitoba, Gilfix-Bird said, adding customers often have questions about items and the grounds on which they are sold. “The best-(seller)? I think that it’s not a product. It’s everything that has a polar bear on it,” said Daniela Sanchez Ramirez, a retail employee at the gift shop. Sanchez Ramirez, who is originally from Colombia, said foreigners are often keen to take home a souvenir displaying Manitoba’s ceremonial mammal, whether it’s in the form of a stuffed animal, pin, pair of earrings or on a mug. The sales associate has been asked if polar bears can be spotted roaming city streets, she noted, followed by a chuckle. The summer is typically the shop’s busiest season, given the sheer number of tourists who stop by for free tours that often start and end near the gift shop. Busier periods correspond with the legislative session, the acting manager said. At the same time, Gilfix-Bird noted it’s a fairly unknown shop that, in line with historic landlord protocols, does not have any flashy advertising; she and her colleagues often hear from first-time shoppers who are surprised to learn they exist and the range of products in stock.
