BJP Barnala ex-head in AAPTaragi Cheisu and six other groups asked the UN on Sunday to pressure India to arrest those responsible for killing three women and three children in Jiribam. Imphal: A prominent Manipur-based think tank, Taragi Cheisu, along with six other organisations, on Sunday urged the United Nations to pressure the Indian government into arresting those responsible for the brutal killing of three women and three children at Jakuradhor in Jiribam district. In a memorandum addressed to the UN Secretary-General, the organisations demanded immediate action under the Geneva Convention Act, of 1960, and relevant domestic laws. They called for the arrest and punishment of the perpetrators of the "Jakuradhor massacre" and sought the formation of an independent judicial inquiry commission to investigate the killings. The organisations insisted that the inquiry be led by a retired Supreme Court judge and recommended the deputation of a UN special rapporteur to oversee the probe. The memorandum also appealed to the National Commission for Women (NCW) to visit the site and release a detailed report on the killings. It further requested the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to ensure justice for the victims. Additionally, the groups urged for the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), citing its contentious role in Manipur. The appeal to the UN was jointly submitted by organisations including the Youth Collective Manipur, Manipur Students Association Delhi, Manipur International Youth Centre, and others. They emphasised the urgency of addressing what they termed a gross violation of human rights. The killings at Jakuradhor occurred amidst heightened ethnic tensions in Manipur. The region has long grappled with violence stemming from ethnic and political conflicts. The Armed Forces Special Powers Act, in effect in Manipur, has been a focal point of contention for years, with activists and local groups claiming it enables excesses by security forces. Mumbai: The BMC is planning to open its third seafood plaza at Khar Danda Koliwada in Khar West. This initiative will prioritise women from the local fishermen community, particularly those from the Women Self Help Group (WSHG), to manage and operate the seafood stalls. However, following internal conflicts among the WSHG members at the first seafood plaza in Mahim, the BMC has decided to invite suggestions and objections regarding the new proposal. The deadline for submitting feedback is set for December 16. The BMC has identified a location for the new seafood plaza at the backside of the Sherely Village bus stop, located on Carter Road in Khar. The mobile eateries at this location will be operated on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, where traditional Koli cuisine will be served to visitors. The local WSHGs and fisherwomen in the Khar danda area will be given priority to set up their stalls. However, to ensure smoother operations and avoid the issues faced at the previous plaza, suggestions and objections have been invited from the locals of Khar Danda Koliwada before proceeding with the new venture, according to a senior civic official. A notice board erected by the BMC's H West ward office at the location states: 'Local residents of Khar Danda who have any objections to the proposal are requested to submit a written objection to the H West ward office by next Monday. Please note that any objections received after this deadline will not be taken into consideration.' To promote tourism and local food, the BMC decided to introduce "food on wheels" (mobile eateries) in all the Koliwadas last year. The city's first Seafood Plaza at Mahim Koliwada was launched in November 2023, followed by another at Worli Koliwada. However, the stalls that were shut from June to September due to the annual fishing hiatus did not reopen even after the season ended, owing to internal conflicts and political interference, said sources. The BMC's G North ward office has now informed WSHG instructing them to start their business from this month.

The scenario-specific Weather-Ready plans Tanger maintains at its centers have helped its local team members remain safe and mitigate property damage during events like this year’s devastating hurricanes. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Tanger’s center in Asheville, North Carolina, was well prepared to support the community, hosting emergency responders on-site and quickly restoring business operations to serve residents and business partners. Caleb Fowler, the Ironmen’s twin wrecking ball on the other side of the defense, didn’t have any. But no two players had a bigger impact on the Ironmen getting back to the state semifinals for the first time since 2020 than the two senior defensive ends. Miller — who moved within a half-sack of Danville’s all-time record with a fourth-quarter sack Saturday — and Fowler set the edge when the Eagles tried to stretch the field horizontally with their Wing-T attack. And when Bermudian quarterback Lane Hubbard dropped back to pass, Miller was hot in pursuit on almost every play. In the end, Danville stopped the Eagles’ 11-game win streak, limiting them to 115 total yards in another dominant defensive effort. “Fowler and Miller, that’s the best they’ve played all season long,” Danville coach Carl Majer said. “They really kept going harder and harder, and made a lot of plays out there.” Miller had several instances where he nearly stepped in front of Eagles screen passes. In the third quarter, with the game still in doubt, Bermudian tried a slip screen with a wide receive. Fowler sniffed it out, dropping from his right end spot to force a high throw incomplete out of bounds. Facing a true Delaware Wing-T, the outside edges spent most of the game diagnosing what was happening in front of them. “We can’t be selfish — coach preaches selflessness,” Miller said. “Trust the guy next to you. Sometimes you make the play by not making the play. Do your job.” “You always have to have your head on a swivel in a run game like that,” Fowler said. “You have to make sure the quarterback doesn’t do anything sneaky. You have to be patient against a team like this. You can’t get too far ahead of yourself and rush too far downfield. Be in the right spot at the right time.” For the fourth consecutive game, Majer called a timeout on the opening drive with his defense on the field. Saturday’s stoppage came a handful of plays into the game, and was used to settle the team and give them a heads-up regarding what everyone was seeing, Majer said. “I said all week long, you have to play your spot; you can’t play someone else’s spot,” Majer said. “Play your spot, play your responsibility. Stay home and do your responsibility, and the defense did an awesome job of that.” “We made adjustments, every timeout, every quarter, at halftime — we adjust as needed,” Miller said. “The first drive we were just feeling it out and we settled in.” Bermudian didn’t move the ball into Danville territory after halftime other than when it recovered an onside kick to start the second half and then on its final possession. Moments after the Eagles recovered the surprise onside to start the third quarter, linebacker Cameron Kiersch got a sack when Miller chased Hubbard from the pocket. Miller stopped another Eagle drive with a sack for a 16-yard loss early in the fourth quarter. After Danville iced the game on Bo Sheptock’s third TD run of the game with 3:16 to play, Miller hit Hubbard just as he threw. Kiersch intercepted the fluttering pass to seal the victory. “It definitely felt good to get one,” Miller said of the sack. “But sometimes you make them throw it away, or force a pick. Just make a play. “It might not show up in the stats, but I just want to see our team win.”
