New self-driving technology from Ford is helping the company keep up with a changing EV landscape and the company is seeing success in Arizona. FOX 10's Steve Nielsen has a first-hand look. Ford's new Mustang Mach-E is the company's latest push into the electric vehicle landscape. The new tech introduces a self-driving mode called BlueCruise. Automakers are bullish on EV technology despite threats from the Trump administration to abolish a $7,500 tax credit for EVs. PHOENIX - Pretty cool new technology from Ford is an example of where the EV world is headed right now. No hands on the wheel, no feet on the pedals and the car drives just fine. In a Phoenix parking lot, Ford executives are showing off their latest and greatest in electric vehicles : the F150 Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E. While nationally, Mach-E sales have grown and Lightning sales have lagged, Arizona is one of their best markets. "We're up 49% in sales in Arizona alone on this vehicle year over, and F150 Lightning is up 33 percent," said Stacey Ferreira. Stacey Ferreira is Director of retail sales, execution and innovation with Ford's electric vehicle division. She took FOX 10's Steve Nielsen on a test drive of the Mach-E. Their self-driving mode is called BlueCruise, and it all starts with just the push of a button in various driving conditions. The impressive tech comes at a precarious time for the electric vehicle landscape. Automakers are trying to lure consumers that are resistant to tech. For Ford, that means offering buyers free at-home chargers with free installation. For people that use it, they easily become adapted to it. It’s just a matter of answering the question of how you get someone who’s never done something before to get over that hurdle of doubting the unknown. Our state has invested heavily in EVs. Featured Lucid Motors, Arizona-based EV company, announces facility expansion, SUV Lucid Motors, an Arizona-based EV company, announced a major facility expansion in Casa Grande and an SUV it describes as "the most advanced electric SUV in the world that's ever been." With Lucid in Casa Grande , Nikola in Coolidge and battery makers all around, Arizona has bought into EV technology. But the incoming Trump administration has suggested scrapping the $7,500 tax credit for EVs. "I would say if consumers are interested in getting an EV and they think they can take advantage of the tax credit, they still have time in this calendar year to go get that," said Ferriera. Featured Arizona EV companies still confident amid signs of industry slowdown News that Tesla is laying off 10% of its workforce came as the electric vehicle industry has shown signs of a slowdown for several months, but heads of EV-related companies in Arizona are still optimistic about the industry. Behind the wheel, the car goes 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. We confirmed that on an on-ramp. Stacey says Ford is fully committed to their EV lineup no matter the politics in D.C. "I don’t have a crystal ball, I can’t see what’s going to happen next year. So, I would say if you want one, now is the perfect time," she said. (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel )Mayor Ken Sim announced Thursday that abolition of the elected Vancouver park board and bringing parks and recreation under the control of city council will lead to $70 million in savings over the next decade. In what the mayor described as a streamlining of services, the transition is expected to achieve further savings once a new governance model is established, including millions of dollars in infrastructure project costs. “And these are conservative estimates,” Sim told reporters at city hall Thursday. A city staff report that goes before council Nov. 27 estimated savings of $1.5 million to $3 million per year alone on “position savings,” which staff at a technical briefing prior to the news conference said will see park board staff fill city vacancies. "Our goal is not to have any staff layoffs," said deputy city manager Sandra Singh, adding that staff continues to meet with unions representing park board workers. Savings of $1.8 million to $3.3 million per year were identified under a category called “early operational integration opportunities.” For example, staff who currently support the elected park board could move into the city clerk’s office. Arts and culture, communications and marketing and social policy were some of the other areas identified as amalgamating to avoid duplication of services. The report estimated, so far, that 10 to 20 positions could be affected by duplication. Abolishing the seven-member elected board would translate to a savings of $280,000 per year, or $2.8 million over 10 years, said the report, which gave no indication when the park commissioners would be phased out. 'Unlikely this would be a priority for the province' The hurdle for Sim since he announced in December 2023 that he wanted to abolish the board has been getting the provincial government to make the necessary amendments to the Vancouver Charter. Premier David Eby initially committed to honouring the mayor’s request — which was supported by the seven councillors belonging to his ABC Vancouver party — but suggested during the recent election campaign that it wasn’t a priority. “It's very unlikely this would be a priority for the province before the next municipal election [in 2026], and they've got a lot of work ahead of them,” Eby told an audience at an all-candidates’ meeting Oct. 12 at St. James Community Square. Glacier Media contacted the provincial government Thursday for an update on Vancouver’s request. Municipal affairs now falls under Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon’s portfolio. “We have received the City of Vancouver’s transition report, and we are reviewing it," Kahlon said in an emailed statement. “We have been that clear our top priority will be to deliver on the priorities of British Columbians. That includes the costs of daily life, strengthening healthcare, and building safe communities in a strong economy.” Asked about Eby’s position, Sim said he wouldn’t comment on private conversations he has had with the premier but added that his office had “an incredible working relationship” with the premier’s office. Brennan Bastyovanszky, chair of the elected Vancouver park board, at city hall Thursday. Photo Mike Howell 'Erodes the trust in democracy' Brennan Bastyovanszky, chair of the park board, was at city hall Thursday to hear what Sim and city staff told reporters about the transition. Bastyovanszky was a member of ABC Vancouver until Sim announced he wanted to abolish the board. He told reporters after the news conference that he didn’t believe the numbers staff provided regarding savings, calling them “dubious.” He also questioned how city councillors could add parks and recreation to their duties, when they already put in long hours. “The amount of workload that the councillors would take on equates to an extra two days of work a week, on top of a full-time job,” Bastyovanszky said. “I don't see how the council is going to be able to manage that. It's going to remove access to elected officials and decision-makers.” Added Bastyovanszky: “This is a centralization of power that does not benefit the people in Vancouver. It erodes the trust in democracy.” The mayor said the transition will allow the city to legally designate 89 acres of land as permanent parkland, including sections of Stanley Park. Sim said the land would be protected, accessible and sustainable for generations to come. Beyond saving money and securing more green space, the transition is about improving how the city gets things done, said Sim, who was joined on a podium by First Nations leaders, city councillors and members of the transition team. “Right now, we are seeing significant delays in critical projects that impact our city — sewer upgrades, green infrastructure, streets, public spaces — they're being delayed, in some cases, by up to two years,” he said, noting a recent pump station project saw costs increase by $2 million because of extended negotiations with the park board. The 36-year-old UFC star is fighting to salvage his reputation after he lost a civil case brought by Nikita Hand, 35, who won almost €250,000 (£210,000) in damages on Friday after accusing him of rape. McGregor has been known to post and delete furious rants about his victim , recently uploading and removing an angry tirade against Ms Hand just yesterday. Tonight, he has again vowed to appeal the High Court's decision but expressed his 'regret' over 'mistakes' made. Writing on X, formerly Twitter , he said: 'People want to hear from me, I needed time. I know I made mistakes. 'Six years ago, I should have never responded to her outreaches. I should have shut the party down. I should never have stepped out on the woman I love the most in the world. That's all on me. 'As much as I regret it, everything that happened that night was consensual and all the witnesses present swore to that under oath. I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision.' He added: 'I can't go back and I will move forward. I am beyond grateful to my family, friends and supporters all over the world who have stayed by my side. That's it. No more. Getting back to the gym- the fight game awaits!' Addressing the 'heinous accusation' he said: 'Two men falsely accused. One vindicated, the other soon to be! 'Congrats James Lawrence on absolute exoneration! Twice this heinous accusation was put to you and twice it was shown as FALSE! LIES! 'It is absolutely disgraceful what they put you through here. Disgraceful! 'I look forward to seeing you further vindicate yourself and lambast those responsible in court! 'We know what happened that night! Everyone present knows, yet it was ignored. 'Every single statement of persons present on the night was ignored. And they all disputed Nikita's LIES! 'However James they did believe you but just in certain parts for some strange reason. And they apparently did not believe Danielle Kealy at all. Laughable!' The controversial Irishman may also face further battles because at least four women have made similar allegations over the past five years - and may now feel empowered to sue him despite police and prosecutors rejecting their cases. Ms Hand said outside court on Friday: 'To all the victims of sexual assault. I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be, speak up, you have a voice, and keep on fighting for justice.' She convinced a jury in Dublin that McGregor was lying when he denied he had 'brutally raped' and 'battered' her in a hotel penthouse during a drink and cocaine-fuelled Christmas 'after party' in 2018. She gave harrowing evidence describing how she was choked and 'kept thinking I would die'. Six years later she was vindicated in court in a case that heard her partner was stabbed when masked men invaded their home earlier this year. In every case case he has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and on at least one occasion sources close to him said allegations of sexual assault were mendacious and money-related. The case was brought by Ms Hand after Ireland's director of public prosecutions decided in 2020 not to bring criminal charges against McGregor and his friend James Lawrence due to a lack of evidence and no reasonable prospect of conviction. After deliberating for six hours and 10 minutes, the jury in the civil case she brought returned with their verdicts in the civil trial against Conor McGregor last week. His own legal costs are understood to be around €300,000 and he will likely have to cover a large chunk of Ms Hand's costs, likely to be in the region of €500,000. These would be paid by him on top of the almost €250,000 (£210,000) he must pay her in damages. On Monday, game developer IO Interactive revealed they will no longer be working with McGregor, whose voice featured as The Disruptor in the game Hitman . The company stated: 'In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. 'We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr McGregor from our storefronts starting today.' Almost a year after the hotel incident, McGregor was accused of another sex attack. In October 2019, police received another complaint against him from a woman who said he had sexually assaulted her in a car outside a Dublin pub. The UFC fighter denied the claim and prosecutors did not pursue any action over the complaint. In September 2020, McGregor was detained and questioned by authorities on the French island of Corsica for alleged indecent exposure and sexual assault in a bar. He spent two days in custody. Eight months later, police and prosecutors declared a lack of sufficient evidence to justify a criminal prosecution. The investigation is said to have included DNA collection that corroborated his version of events. In July 2022 an Irish woman claimed McGregor attacked her on his yacht during a party in Spain , forcing her to jump into the water to escape. The woman is understood to have claimed the UFC star kicked her in the stomach, punched her in the face and left her bruised during celebrations in Ibiza for his 34th birthday in July, describing him as 'possessed'. Asked whether McGregor was under investigation, a spokesman for the investigating magistrate said: 'I can confirm a court in Ibiza is investigating an Irish national for an alleged crime of wounding.' McGregor, his mother Margaret and partner Dee Devlin outside the High Court in Dublin In 2022 Samantha Murphy claimed she was attacked by the fighter off Ibiza and jumped off his boat (pictured in St Tropez) to escape Karen Kessler, a spokesperson for McGregor, told MailOnline at the time: 'Mr. McGregor is steadfast in his denial of all the accusations made by a guest on his boat.' The local newspaper Periodico de Ibiza wrote: 'According to her complaint, the mixed martial arts star became violent by surprise. 'After beginning to criticise the victim, the trigger for the attack was according to her that she tried to get a friend who was on board the yacht to help her.' 'It was as if he was possessed,' Periodico de Ibiza reported she claimed in her statement. 'I knew I had to leave the boat because I thought he was going to kill me. 'We have common friends and I have met him on a number of occasions. I can't believe what he did to me. I think he would have killed me if I hadn't left the yacht.' Periodico de Ibiza also claimed that in her statement to the Gardai a few days after she returned to Ireland at the end of July last year, she attributed her initial unwillingness to press charges in Spain to a state of shock when she was helped ashore by rescuers after she apparently jumped into the sea to escape. It said she had complained she was wearing just her bikini when she went into the water. She said she had no money or phone and just wanted to get back to her hotel as soon as possible, the newspaper added. It reported that she claimed in her Irish police statement: 'They left me stranded. They wouldn't even abandon a dog the way they did me.' Samantha Murphy revealed she was the woman and later launched a civil case against McGregor after the alleged incident last summer. The former UFC champion has faced a range of other legal claims in recent years, during which he has left and returned to the sport a number of times. Pictured: McGregor celebrates after defeating Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout during UFC246 at T-Mobile Arena on January 18, 2020 in Las Vegas Ms Murphy claims she suffered a broken arm after she was forced to jump from McGregor's yacht while it was anchored off the coast of the Spanish island of Formentara. After making her formal statement, the woman's car was set ablaze outside of her Dublin home. In February 2023, a brick was reportedly thrown through a window of that residence. In the same month it emerged that her civil claim was discontinued - but it is not clear if it was settled or thrown out. In June 2023 the MMA fighter, who at the time was expecting his fourth child with his fiancée, was accused of forcing the unnamed accuser to perform a sex act on him in the VIP men's bathroom at Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Miami. A video obtained by TMZ showed him leading her into the men's bathroom where she claims she was assaulted. He appeared to lead her by the hand into the bathroom, before the door is closed behind them. McGregor's entourage of security guards is then shown blocking the entrance to the door. His attorneys say the footage undermined the woman's original allegation that he and his security guards forced her into the restroom. McGregor denied the allegations. A source close to McGregor said at the time that he would cooperate fully with the investigation, but added the woman's claims are false and that she is only interested in the star's money. On October 18 2023, the case was dropped. It now remains to be seen if any of these women might also be willing to launch a new civil claim against him. Kathmandu, Dec. 30: Nepali athletes have won three silver and 23 bronze medals in the Asian Games since their debut in the first Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951. But when the nation returns to Asia’s biggest sporting event in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, for the 20th edition, the athletes plan to create history by challenging the medal tally in the past 75 years. “I have been involved with sports for the last 25-30 years. But it is the first time that I have seen such a long-term training plan for athletes in Nepal. This is an applaudable step by the National Sports Council (NSC),” said Jagdish Prasad Bhatta, head coach of Nepali women’s volleyball team. Alongside Bhatta and his team, the Nepali women’s kabaddi team, who won a silver in the previous edition, also showed determination to achieve a better result. Under ‘Mission 2026’, the NSC and sports stakeholders have dreamt of Nepal winning medals in double figures with at least one gold in Japan. The volleyball and kabaddi teams are joined by five male and female players each from karate, 3 males and five females from boxing, five males and three females from wushu, four males and females each from athletics, and three males and females each from judo and wrestling respectively. “It is our turn to write history,” said karateka Arika Gurung, when she addressed the closing of the two-day workshop on anti-doping and nutrition at ANFA Complex on Sunday. Gurung, who won a silver for Nepal in the 19th Asian Games, is one of the 81 athletes trained under ‘Mission 2026’. “We cannot challenge foreign players unless we are well-trained like them. The anti-doping and nutrition class was fruitful as the experts provided us insights with into the ongoing trend in the global sporting world. I believe we are all determined to make history for the country,” said Gurung. Likewise, stressing that it was highly possible to make the dream into a reality by winning medals, including gold, in double figures. “When I could not win a medal in the 1998 Asian Games, I could not sleep for days. However, if I had stayed sad, I would not have won medals in 2002 and 2006. We need to move forward in a disciplined manner. I believe our athletes can create a new history by winning the yellow medal in 2026,” said Deepak Bista, director of Mission 2026. Olympian Bista, who won two bronzes in taekwondo in the Asian Games, is currently overseeing the preparation of the national players for the 20th edition. “To win a medal, an athlete should be professional. With training, an athlete needs experience and learning from experts. I want commitment from the players because we are ready to support you in every way,” said Tanka Lal Ghising, member-secretary at the NSC. Ghising also urged the coaches and associations to recommend players for abroad training and request foreign coaches if needed. “The NSC has allocated a budget to send players for training and practice matches abroad. We will also help if associations want foreign coaches. But first, the players and officials should come up with a plan,” Ghising added.
