Babudar had faced up to 50 years in prison for what US Attorney Teresa Moore called a 'violent crime spree across the Midwest.' 'The defendant tried to conceal hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen cash by using it to gamble online and at casinos, but the odds caught up with him,' Moore said in a release in February. 'With today's conviction, he will be held accountable for the full scope of his criminal conduct, including his attempt to flee from justice.' As a part of his plea agreement, Babudar will have to pay over $530,000 in restitution to the victims' financial institution. Adding insult to injury, he will also have to forfeit an autographed painting of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This release was published on openPR.It's a photo that sent a tremor through British politics: Elon Musk flanked by British politician Nigel Farage and a wealthy backer, in front of a gilt-framed painting of a young Donald Trump. Taken this week at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the image suggested that Musk, a key player in the incoming US administration, could soon turn his disruptive attention to the UK. Farage, Trump's highest-profile British champion, confirmed talks are underway about Musk making a hefty donation to Farage's party Reform UK . The Times of London reported it could be as much as $100 million, which would be far and away the largest political donation in UK history. The reports have sparked calls for Britain's rules on political donations to be tightened - quickly. "We did discuss money," Farage told broadcaster GB News after the meeting with Musk. "That's a negotiation we will go back and have again. He is not against giving us money. He hasn't fully decided whether he will." Britain has strict limits on how much political parties can spend on elections, but they can accept unlimited donations, as long as the donors are UK voters or companies registered in Britain. Musk's social network X has a British arm, Twitter UK Ltd., with a registered address in London. The voting watchdog, the Electoral Commission, is calling for changes including limiting the amount a company can donate, so that it can't put in more money than it earns in Britain. "It's crucial that U.K. voters have trust in the financing of our political system," the commission's chief executive Vijay Rangarajan told The Guardian. "The system needs strengthening, and we have been calling for changes to the law since 2013, to protect the electoral system from foreign interference." Britain's center-left Labour Party pledged during the summer election campaign to tighten the rules on political donations, though legislation is not scheduled in the coming year. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's spokesman Dave Pares said Wednesday that work is already underway to "reinforce existing safeguards" against "impermissible proxy donations." Both the Labour government and the right-of-center opposition Conservatives are trying to figure out how to deal with Musk, who has taken a keen interest in the UK – and seemingly formed a strong dislike for Starmer. Musk often posts on X about the UK, retweeting criticism of Starmer and the hashtag TwoTierKeir – shorthand for an unsubstantiated claim that Britain has "two-tier policing," with far-right protesters treated more harshly than pro-Palestinian or Black Lives Matter demonstrators. Musk has compared British attempts to weed out online misinformation to the Soviet Union, and during summer anti-immigrant violence across the U.K. tweeted that "civil war is inevitable." Farage has echoed some of those themes in his own social media output and his party's anti-"woke" agenda, which includes pledges to slash immigration, scrap green-energy targets and leave the European Convention on Human Rights. Founded in 2021, Reform UK is the latest in a string of small hard-right parties led by Farage that have had limited electoral success, but an outsized influence on British politics. Farage's opposition to the European Union helped push the country toward voting in 2016 to leave the bloc, a seismic political and economic break with the U.K.'s nearest neighbors. Reform UK won just five of the 650 seats in the House of Commons in July's election, but came second in dozens more and secured 14% of the vote. Now it is pushing for fast growth, trying to professionalize its previously ramshackle organization and holding gatherings around the UK to recruit new members. Farage, a strong communicator who has embraced TikTok and other platforms, aims to emulate Trump's success in using the power of personality and social media to reach the "bro vote" - young men who are traditionally less likely to turn out at election time. Farage told GB News that Musk has "already given me considerable help – understanding the process from start to finish, reaching disaffected communities who frankly feel there's no point voting for anybody." It's almost that time again: a new year and new opportunities to and ourselves. Alongside or , you might consider taking steps now that might help you begin to boost your career. Here are three ways you can start to level up your career — even before the end of 2024, according to workplace experts. Sean Barry, the vice president of talent acquisition at Allstate, told Business Insider that workers should try to become more proficient in artificial intelligence. He said it's essential to realize that the technology will put a premium on a new set of skills for many people — like how to create an appropriate prompt for generative AI. "That is not a skill that anybody talked about two years ago, and it's critically important now," Barry said, adding that people who are better at this will likely do better in their careers. One way to improve your AI skills is simply to use it. Start by and seeing what works. It's become a cliché to say that , but someone who knows how to use it will. Yet there are areas where AI might replace humans, which is why a better understanding of can be beneficial. Kiki Leutner is cofounder of SeeTalent.ai, which is developing tests run by AI that would simulate tasks associated with a job to help the hiring process. She told BI that, traditionally, employers tended to use such tests for more senior roles only where it was worth the money and effort. Or, a company might give a software developer a coding task as a way of measuring proficiency. Leutner said Generative AI can let employers test far more job seekers and across a broader range of roles than would otherwise be practical. Plus, she said, AI-run assessments can collect insights that previously were difficult to capture, such as how someone might interact with others. Success in such areas often involves the employers say they're seeking and many bosses contend too many workers lack. You might feel , yet carving out some time to help others can help you. A recent study from the found that volunteering proved more effective in boosting worker well-being than other interventions. It's especially beneficial if it involves using your skills to assist others, according to Leila Saad, CEO of Common Impact, a nonprofit that connects companies and their workers with other nonprofits. Saad told BI that many nonprofits lack the resources to meet all of their operational needs. So, when workers with that expertise can help, it benefits both the organization and the worker, she said. "It feels good to give back skills you've honed over your entire career," she said. That often trumps something like showing up for a one-off event like painting a school or planting trees, Saad said. Beyond that, she said, workers — and their employers — can benefit if the employee might develop additional skills through volunteering. Jennifer Schielke, the CEO of the staffing firm Summit Group Solutions and the author of "Leading for Impact," previously told BI that — even after something traumatic like losing a job — can help those newly out of work get a sense of perspective. "If you have time to volunteer, go do it," she said. "Go get some encouragement by sitting alongside someone who has it worse than you do." Side hustles get a lot of attention when they're lucrative, yet there can be other benefits. They can be limited to , so workers' weekdays aren't too full. In other cases, side hustles might . They can also make workers feel empowered. Daniel Zhao, the lead economist at Glassdoor, told BI that workers in some industries feel stuck in their 9-to-5 roles because of lackluster hiring. That might be one reason more workers are picking up side hustles. Zhao pointed to data gathered by Glassdoor and the Harris Poll. In a February survey of some 1,100 US adults, 39% reported having a side gig. The share was higher among younger workers: Fifty-seven percent of Gen Zers and 48% of millennials reported doing work in addition to their primary roles. "Workers are much more willing to experiment nowadays," Zhao said. He pointed to rates of entrepreneurship, which he said "skyrocketed" during the pandemic. Zhao said it's good news that entrepreneurship rates remain elevated following a "fairly weak" 2010s and said it indicates America's entrepreneurial spirit has recovered. New business applications in the US have jumped to 431,000 a month in 2024, up 47% from 293,000 a month in 2019, Zhao said. "Not only is that an opportunity for people to supplement their income on the side, but it also opens up new opportunities, new ideas, new technologies that can potentially boost the economy in the long run," he said. Read the original article on( MENAFN - IANS) New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) Increasing the number of neurologists in India as well as leveraging digital health technology like telemedicine is crucial to combat the burden of strokes in India, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said on Saturday. Stroke has become a growing health crisis in India, with more than 1.8 million new cases annually, making it one of the leading causes of disability and death in the country. The condition imposes a significant emotional and financial burden on patients and their families while underscoring critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure, awareness, and timely treatment. "Addressing stroke care in India requires a multi-faceted approach that integrates prevention, timely diagnosis, and robust infrastructure," Advisor to National Health Systems Resource Centre, Dr K. Madan Gopal said at the 2nd Edition of the National Stroke Conclave and Awards, held here. "While programmes like hypertension and diabetes screening under the National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases are vital, the real challenge lies in building capacity, from increasing the number of neurologists to leveraging digital health solutions like telemedicine," he added. Gopal also urged for collective efforts from the public and private sectors to bridge the gaps and create a sustainable impact on stroke prevention and management. World Stroke Organisation President Dr Jeyaraj Pandian called for ensuring equitable services. "The WHO emphasises stroke surveillance as a priority, yet the struggle lies in gathering reliable data on mortality and addressing variations across regions. A comprehensive approach that includes rehabilitation and prevalence programmes, both locally and globally, is critical to transforming stroke care and outcomes," Pandian said. Stroke remains one of the most pressing yet preventable health challenges in India. It is responsible for more than 12 lakh deaths annually in the country. The experts stressed the need to boost awareness to ensure timely treatment. David L. Duvall Sells 4,500 Shares of Core Molding Technologies, Inc. (NYSEAMERICAN:CMT) Stock

Authored by Philip Wegmann via RealClearPolitics , Sen. Joni Ernst has not made up her mind about Pete Hegseth’s nomination to be secretary of defense, but despite the suggestion of some of her colleagues, the Iowa Republican told RealClearPolitics during a Thursday interview that she is not pursuing that role for herself. “I am not seeking to be secretary of defense,” Ernst said after some on the left suggested she would make a better candidate than Hegseth and after critics on the right accused her of trying to sink his nomination for personal gain. A combat veteran herself, she explained that while “I absolutely have interest in the military,” her focus is on continuing her work in the Armed Services committee, not joining President-elect Trump’s cabinet. Ernst, a senior member of the committee with jurisdiction over the nomination, met with Hegseth Wednesday as allegations about professional and sexual misconduct continue to dim his hopes of confirmation. “I’ve known Pete for a very long time,” Ernst said of Hegseth, a former Fox News host and decorated veteran, adding, “I really appreciated the time that he took to sit down with me and walk through a number of issues.” The senator described the conversation as “thorough” and the nominee as “very forthcoming.” A sexual assault survivor, she confirmed that the two discussed the misconduct allegations during their 45-minute sit-down. Hegseth denied all allegations of wrongdoing in a Wednesday interview with Megyn Kelly and vowed to fight on so long as he has Trump’s blessing. While Republicans control the Senate, the margins are slim. They hold the upper chamber with just a three-seat majority and are expected to have just a one-seat majority on the committee next year that will handle Hegseth’s nomination. This makes Ernst a critical swing vote, and her initial hesitation over the nominee has made her a MAGA pariah. Complained Donald Trump Jr., the son of the president-elect, in a social media post Thursday, “If you're a GOP Senator who voted for Lloyd Austin but criticize Pete Hegseth then maybe you’re in the wrong political party!” Charlie Kirk, a confidant of the Trump family, noted that Ernst had supported Austin, the current secretary of defense, and accused the senator of “leading the charge against Hegseth.” “No, no,” Ernst said of the accusation that she was working behind the scenes to sink the nominee, “and believe me, I have been feeling this.” The senator insisted that “there is absolutely no campaign against Pete,” adding that her focus remains strictly on ensuring a thorough and fair confirmation process. The candidates change, she said, but the process ought to remain consistent. “If there had been allegations made against Gen. Austin,” she said of the current defense secretary who was confirmed with broad bipartisan support four years ago, “we would have gone through that process as well. I think anyone that comes in front of our committee deserves a fair hearing.” “ I don’t have a campaign against Pete ,” she reiterated. “ I just want to make sure the process is able to play out and that we’re thoroughly vetting him. I do believe that Pete deserves to have a hearing. All the rumblings out there are absolutely false. My role as a senator is to make sure that we are putting to bed any rumors, any anonymous whatever,” she continued. “We just need to make sure that he is thoroughly vetted and that he has his opportunity to go in front of the committee, recount his service, and rebut any allegations,” she concluded. Democrats have already made their own conclusions. They think the nominee is already sunk. Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine said as much before telling the Washington Examiner that if Trump swapped Ernst for Hegseth, Democrats would begin with “a very favorable inclination” to confirm her. Added Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal, “she would have significant bipartisan support.” Ernst is not entertaining those suggestions, and even as Trump reportedly seeks a potential backup plan should Hegseth withdraw, the senator said she isn’t seeking out an alternative. Asked about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose name has been floated as a Plan B, Ernst replied, “I do think he would be a good candidate for this position. But as I’ve told reporters, as they ask me in the hallway, Hegseth is the nominee, and the president will determine who that nominee is.” Trump will assume office in January of next year, and confirmation hearings are not expected until the end of that month. The former, and now future, president believes he has a historic mandate after becoming the first Republican to win the popular vote in two decades. John McLaughlin, Trump’s longtime pollster, told RCP that opposition to his nominees incurs inherent risk and a potential primary challenge. “Republicans are totally behind his agenda and are totally supportive of him putting the right people in place so he can solve the country’s problems,” McLaughlin said in a Thursday interview. “If certain Republican senators side with the Democrats, they do so at their own peril.” Ernst insisted that her focus is not on politics and only on discovering “what the truth is.” “It’s all about making sure that the nominee is properly vetted,” she said of the process that will begin in earnest early next year. Added the senator, “That’s why it’s important that we continue through the hearing, and he’ll have his day in front of the public, and all of this can be sorted out.” There will be plenty of time, Ernst said, to go back and sort through “all the anonymous this-and-that-and the-other.” She noted that thus far, all the allegations have been made anonymously in the press and that no accuser has come forward publicly. “I mean, people need to really come forward if they have information,” she said. “They need to be willing to put their name to it.”
