Morgan Rogers looked to have given Emery’s side another famous win when he slammed a loose ball home in stoppage time, but referee Jesus Gil Manzano ruled Diego Carlos to have fouled Juve goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio and the goal was chalked off. Contact seemed minimal but VAR did not intervene and Villa had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw. “With the last action, it is the interpretation of the referee,” the Spaniard said. “In England, 80 per cent of those is given a goal and it’s not a foul. It’s very soft. “But in Europe, it could be a foul. We have to accept. “Everybody will know, in England the interpretation is different. The England referees, when actions like that the interpretation is a clear no foul but in Europe that interpretation is different. “They have to be working to get the same decision when some action like that is coming. I don’t know exactly why but we knew before in the Premier League that it is different. A very controversial finish at Villa Park 😲 Morgan Rogers' late goal is ruled out for a foul on Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio and the match ends 0-0 ❌ 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/MyYL5Vdy3r — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) November 27, 2024 “In Europe for example we are not doing a block like in England and we are not doing in front of the goalkeeper in offensive corners the same situations like in England. “When the action happened, I was thinking here in Europe it’s a foul. In England not, but in Europe I have to accept it. “At first, I thought the referee gave us a goal. In cases like that, it’s confusing because he has to wait for VAR. I don’t know what happened but I think so (the referee changed his mind with VAR).” It was a disappointment for Villa, who remain unbeaten at home in their debut Champions League campaign and are still in contention to qualify automatically for the last 16. “We were playing a favourite to be in the top eight and usually a contender to win this competition,” Emery added. “We are a team who for a long time didn’t play in Europe and the Champions League and this year is very important. “We wanted to play competitive and we are in the right way. Today to get one point is very good, we wanted to win but wanted to avoid some mistakes we made in previous games. “We have 10 points and we’re happy.” Before the game Emery called Juventus one of the “best teams in the world, historically and now”, but this was an Italian side down to the bare bones. Only 14 outfield players made the trip from Turin, with striker Dusan Vlahovic among those who stayed behind. Juve boss Thiago Motta, whose side are 19th but still in contention to reach the top eight, said: “There’s just three games left to qualify. The next home against Man City, then Brugge, then Benfica. “One at a time, as we always did with the goal to qualify for the next round. “In the end we will try and reach our goal which is to go to the next round.”COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. MUPPETS’ Christmas Carol fans are only just realising one Inbetweeners star appeared in the classic movie. Robin Weaver, 43, best known for her role as Simon’s mum, Pamela Cooper, in the Channel 4 comedy , played Clara, Fred’s wife, in the 1992 festive film . For years, the playful retelling of Charles Dickens’ timeless tale has been a staple of the holiday season. Featuring the Muppets cast and Michael Caine ’s performance as Scrooge, the new discovery has given fans a whole new reason to rewatch the movie this Christmas . The revelation gained traction after a Reddit user posted in a forum titled, "Approaching my 35th Christmas, and I've only just realised that Clara (Fred's wife) in Muppet Christmas Carol is Simon's mum in the Inbetweeners ." The post quickly drew reactions from fans thrilled to connect the dots between the two roles. more on the Inbetweeners One user exclaimed, “I live for these facts,” while another added, “Thank you! I watched it this week and was desperately trying to work out what I knew her from!” A third joked, “Bloody hell, Simon’s older than he looks,” adding some Inbetweeners humor into the conversation. But Robin isn’t the only cast member in The Muppets’ Christmas Carol with ties to other iconic works. Steven Mackintosh, who plays Fred (Scrooge’s jovial nephew and Clara’s husband), is known for his role in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Most read in Film Someone pointed this out on the site, writing: "And Fred is that bloke from Lock Stock!" When it was first released in 1992, many thought the Disney film was going to be a huge flop. Pairing a much-loved Charles Dickens novel with a load of puppets and actor Sir Michael didn’t seem like a recipe for success. On top of that, The Muppets had lost two of its most prominent figureheads - Muppets creator Jim Henson, who died suddenly in May 1990, followed by puppeteer Richard Hunt in January 1992. But 32 years later, it’s become a festive classic, watched by kids over and over every year.Schmidt scores 19 off the bench, Valparaiso downs Eastern Illinois 81-53

Manchester United’s decision to put up the cost of all members’ match tickets to £66 for the remainder of the season has been labelled “offensive” by the club’s leading supporters’ group. Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) revealed the club had informed the fans forum that changes to certain ticket policies will take effect immediately “and that this price will apply for kids and over-65s as well as adults”. The news comes as the club confirmed the cost of paying off former manager Erik ten Hag and his staff was £10.4million, while a release clause to bring in new head coach Ruben Amorim and his staff amounted to £11m. The figures were part of a longer version of the club’s first-quarter accounts which were released to the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday. United and Everton fans are set to stage a protest against ticket prices ahead of their Premier League clash on Sunday. Supporters are being asked to gather next to the trinity statue outside Old Trafford to support the Football Supporters’ Association’s ‘Stop Exploiting Loyalty’ campaign. As well as increasing prices generally, fans are unhappy about the removal of concession tickets for certain groups. An MUST statement read: “Suffice it to say that the idea that the fans must pay their ‘fair share’ for the club’s excesses and/or mismanagement — and above all, the Glazers’ lack of investment over two decades — is offensive. “We fans have done everything we have been asked. We have cheered the players on even in the face of substandard performance. “We have objected to this action in the strongest possible terms, both for the action itself and the complete lack of consultation, which is a step backward based on the process we had agreed with the club before INEOS’ arrival. “Over the coming days MUST will be seeking urgent discussions with the club to get them to listen to fans’ concern at this policy. “United fans have sucked up a lot. We will not be silent on this and we need to be prepared to resist any attempts to further drive up ticket prices.” Supporters’ group The 1958 said along with United and Everton, both Liverpool and Manchester City supporters will also display an FSA banner ahead of their match on Sunday. “With 19 out of 20 Premier League clubs increasing ticket prices this season, FC58, Everton, Liverpool and City supporters will display the FSA banner to raise awareness that any future season ticket price increases, removal of concessions, and treating match-going supporters as an easy target to make quick revenues will not be tolerated,” the fans’ group said. “With the discussions around the rebuild or redevelopment of Old Trafford, we need to send a message to the club that we are laser focused on keeping football affordable and looking after our loyal, match-going fan base. “Manchester United have announced that they will be selling tickets to members for the remainder of the season at a minimum of £66 irrespective of if you are under 16, youth, OAP or disabled, which is a clear exploitation of the loyal fan base and their first move towards dynamic pricing.”Lakers’ LeBron James, Warriors’ Stephen Curry adding another chapter to rivalry on Christmas DayReport: RB Justice Haynes Expected to Transfer to Michigan After Alabama Exit

The Gamecocks (5-1) lost for the first time since April 2023, when Caitlin Clark and Iowa beat them in the NCAA Tournament national semifinals. Te-Hina Paopao scored 18 points and Tessa Johnson scored 14 for the Gamecocks, whose road winning streak was third-longest in Division I history. It was the first time UCLA took down a No. 1 team in school history, having been 0-20 in such games. They will meet at Soldier Field on what is forecast to be a cloudy and chilly night in Chicago. Game time is 8:15 p.m. and will air on Prime Video in what will mark the final Thursday night game of the season. All of the Week 18 games will take place next Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025. For what it’s worth, the Bears beat the Seahawks 25-24 in Seattle in their last meeting on Dec. 26, 2021. Seattle (8-7), trying to stay in the playoff race, trails the NFC West-leading Los Angeles Rams by a game with just two remaining. They will play at the Rams in Week 18. The Seahawks have four straight road wins, their longest streak since they won five in a row in 2020. “The destiny’s out of our hands right now. That stings,” coach Mike Macdonald told reporters this week. “But we’ve got a lot to play for, still. We’re just gonna keep hammering away until this thing cracks. I think it’s right there. We want to be ready when that happens. Hopefully, we get an opportunity to get into the dance and go do some damage.” Quarterback Geno Smith comes in off one of his better games of the season, completing 31 of 43 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He did throw two interceptions, giving him 15 this season. Seattle has had more success through the air, ranking 14th overall on offense and fourth in passing while languishing near the bottom (30th) in rushing offense. WHO:Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears WHERE: Soldier Field, Chicago WHEN:8:15 p.m. ET Thursday TV: Prime Video Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has 1,089 yards this season, making him the 10th player in franchise history with 1,000 yards receiving and the first since both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in 2020. The Seahawks threw on 45 of their 60 snaps last week, and with the Bears struggling against the pass, Smith-Njigba figures to get plenty of opportunities. A loss to Seattle would give Chicago (4-11) double-digit losing streaks for the second time in GM Ryan Poles' three years. The Bears dropped the final 10 in 2022 as part of a franchise-worst 14-game slide that stretched into last year. They haven’t won a game since beating Jacksonville on Oct. 13 by a score of 35-16 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams will get another start for the Bears. Williams looked better this past weekend against Detroit after a string of shaky outings, throwing for 334 yards and two touchdowns. The No. 1 overall draft pick is sixth on the Bears' single-season passing list with 3,271 yards, and Erik Kramer’s franchise record of 3,838 in 1995 is within reach if he plays the final two games. His 326 consecutive attempts without an interception are an NFL rookie record and the most ever by any Bears player. But he has also been sacked a league-leading and club-record 60 times. Defensively, the Bears had a top-10 pass defense as recently as Nov. 17. It’s now 23rd. The Bears have given up 865 yards passing and 102 points in the three games since Matt Eberflus was fired on Nov. 28. ©2024 Advance Local Media LLC. Visit pennlive.com . By Ja'han Jones Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs name-checked Donald Trump in his latest attempt to secure bail amid his ongoing sex trafficking case. And federal prosecutors aren’t feeling it. On Monday, Combs’ attorneys filed a letter affirming their belief that his request for bail should be granted. This was required by Judge Arun Subramanian after prosecutors claimed that Combs should be denied bail because he was allegedly trying to to manipulate witnesses from jail and influence potential jurors . The letter says Combs is “not required to sit idly by” amid a “nonstop drumbeat of negative publicity [that] has destroyed his reputation and will make it virtually impossible for him to receive a fair trial.” The letter continues: He has a right to a fair trial and a constitutional right to speak out on his own behalf. The government’s arguments that asking his children to post birthday wishes on Instagram and that he is not entitled to publicly express his opinion that this prosecution is racially motivated are, quite simply, an unconstitutional effort to silence him. So Combs is seeking the Trump treatment and asking the judge to apply the broad First Amendment protections that the president-elect was afforded in his federal election interference case in Washington. “In United States v. Trump , the D.C. Circuit ‘assume[d] without deciding that the most demanding scrutiny applies to’ pre-trial speech restrictions on criminal defendants, ‘and that only a significant and imminent threat to the administration of criminal justice will support restricting [a defendant’s] speech,’” Combs’ lawyers wrote. Trump, of course, went nuts on social media under his partial gag order in D.C. The lawyers also contend that the judge should apply the Jan. 6 case’s “heightened standard when considering Mr. Combs’ speech here.” Trump, of course, went nuts on social media under his partial gag order in D.C. But prosecutors in the Southern District of New York are raising a seemingly obvious difference between Combs and Trump. In Trump’s case, the court “faced the unique task of balancing the right of a current candidate for the presidency to speak publicly about his charges against the public’s right in a fair trial,” the prosecutors wrote in response Monday. The prosecutors argued that “[t]hose same First Amendment interests are not at stake here,” adding: Further, the defendant’s comments go well beyond attempts to claim that he is innocent of the charges against him and make clear that he intends to use the press to deliberately manipulate “outside influences to be biased in his favor.” The judge is expected to rule on Combs’ latest bail attempt — his third, after two failed tries — sometime this week. As someone who has written about the disturbing similarities between Combs and Trump , it comes as no surprise that the former is now adopting the latter’s legal strategy. MADRID (AP) — Spanish King Felipe VI used his traditional Christmas Eve speech to remember the victims of the catastrophic Valencia flash floods , and urged the country to remain calm despite public debates around hot-button issues such as immigration and housing affordability. In a pre-recorded speech that usually reviews the year's most relevant issues, Felipe said Spain “must never forget the pain and sadness" the flood have caused. The Oct. 29 floods killed more than 225 people in eastern Spain, damaging countless homes and leaving graveyards of cars piled on top of each other. In some towns, the heavy downpours that caused the floods dropped as much as a year's worth of rain in just eight hours. In early November, as Spaniards' shock at the wreckage turned into frustration, a political blame game began, directed especially at regional authorities who failed to send timely emergency alerts to cell phones on the day of the floods. The frustration of residents in hard-hit Paiporta near Valencia was on display when people tossed mud and shouted insults at the king and government officials in early November when they made their first visit to the town. “We have seen — and understood — the frustration, the pain, the impatience, the demands for greater and more effective coordination," Felipe said about how the disaster was managed, adding that he had asked that aid be sent to everyone who needed it. He also addressed the country's housing crunch and high rents, which have become a leading concern in this European Union country that is the eurozone's fourth-largest economy. Fast-rising rents are especially acute in cities like Barcelona and Madrid, where incomes have failed to keep up, especially for younger people in a country with chronically high unemployment. Felipe urged that “all the actors involved reflect” and "listen to each other” so that they facilitate bringing access to housing under “affordable conditions.” Spain's immigration debate should keep in mind the country's European partners and immigrants' countries of origin, Felipe said, warning that “the way in which we are able to address immigration ... will say a lot in the future about our principles and the quality of our democracy.” Felipe said Spain need to remain calm in the public sphere, even in the face of a “sometimes thunderous” contest in its politics.

China unveiled an updated model of its high-speed bullet train, which will travel at a speed of 450 kilometres per hour. Thus, making it the world's fastest high-speed train. The train currently in service in China is the CR400 Fuxing model. The CR400 Fuxing high-speed rail (HSR) operates at speeds of 350 kmph, a report by state-run Xinhua said. China Unveils World's Fastest High-Speed Train Prototype The new model unveiled by Beijing has been named the CR450 prototype, reported PTI. This will further shorten travel time and improve connectivity, making travel more convenient and efficient for the country's vast passengers, said the China State Railway Group Co (China Railway). The CR450 prototype reached a test speed of 450 kmph, with key performance indicators - operational speed, energy consumption, interior noise, and braking distance - setting a new international benchmark. China Railway will arrange a series of line tests for the prototypes and optimise technical indicators to ensure the CR450 enters commercial service as soon as possible. China Railway Facing Loss? According to reports, the High-Speed rail network expansion has proved to be a costly affair for Beijing and is not gaining any profits. Though not profitable, China says the HSR network expansion has played a crucial role in the nation's economic and social development, reducing travel times and boosting industrial development along railway routes. According to internal surveys, the Beijing-Shanghai train service was the most profitable, while the networks in other cities have yet to turn lucrative. According to the latest official figures, China's operational HSR tracks have reached about 47,000 kms, connecting major cities in the country. Meanwhile, apart from the domestic expansion, China's HSR has exported its network to countries like Thailand and Indonesia. China has also built the Belgrade-Novi Sad HSR in Serbia.
