Colorado (7-2) has won two straight after competing in the Maui Invitational, most recently a 72-55 win over in-state rival Colorado State. Now the focus turns to South Dakota State and shoring up issues before conference play. "Defensively, we're understanding what our jobs are. Now, we're not where we need to be for sure," coach Tad Boyle said. "But we're making strides in that area. And I think the guys are getting used to playing with each other, understanding each other." The Buffaloes lost a lot of talent from last year's NCAA Tournament team but boast some quality players. Andrej Jakimovski (13.0 points per game), Julian Hammond III (12.3 ppg) and Elijah Moore (12.0 ppg) lead the team in scoring. Sophomore big man Bangot Dak has shown he can be a force after scoring a career-high 16 points in the win over Colorado State. The Jackrabbits (8-4) are coming off a 77-63 loss at Nevada on Wednesday night and complete a two-game trip in Boulder. South Dakota State is led by senior center Oscar Cluff, who tops the team in scoring (17.3 points) and rebounding (11.0) but had a subpar night against Nevada when he scored a season-low six points while battling an ankle injury. "I wish he was feeling a little better," coach Eric Henderson said of Cluff. "He's going to be fine, but he's still nursing that ankle a little bit." Freshman Joe Sayler is second on the team in scoring at 12.8 ppg and has reached double figures in each of the last three games. Sophomore Kalen Garry is third on the Jackrabbits in scoring at 9.6 per contest, an average that has been hurt by his last three games when he has averaged just 5.3 points. --Field Level Mediakijiji thunder bay

Moving your body is for everyone, regardless of experience level, skill, or location. This year’s Best of What’s New innovations make getting outside and active easier in many ways. A tightly woven shirt stops itchy mosquito bites sans chemicals. An electric fishing reel cuts the cord and ditches heavy batteries once and for all. An app combines avalanche education with hard-to-find reports for safer snowshoeing and skiing. A waterproof jacket uses a battery membrane to maintain its breathability and waterproofing. An exercise bike with cutting-edge technology takes the experience of a peaceful ride and brings it inside. Overall, the best sports and outdoor innovations take the “rough” out of “roughing it.” “Riding a bike outdoors” and “riding a bike at the gym” are vastly different experiences. One feels immersive and relaxing; the other can feel tortuous and monotonous. Samuel Matson, the founder of Saga and a former Google VR designer, noticed that same dichotomy after returning from a sabbatical during the pandemic, which he spent cycling in the Andes Mountains in Colombia. Wearing a bulky VR headset isn’t ideal for a cycling workout, though. Instead, the HoloBike forgoes a wearable headset for a lenticular-inspired, high-resolution screen that utilizes optic flow, the same phenomenon that is the basis for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Eye-tracking cameras adjust the scene based on where you’re looking for an immersive experience. The 3D environments are made using -powered scans of real trails and resemble an open-world video game. Best of all, the HoloBike has roughly the same footprint as a Peloton, meaning it won’t take up too much space in your house. It’s currently available for pre-order online. There are a few ways to prevent mosquito bites in the woods effectively. Almost all of them require chemicals, from in bug spray to pyrethrin-treated clothing, that wash away and potentially enter the water system—all except Royal Robbins’ Mosquito Protection Technology (MPT). MPT uses an incredibly tight weave that prevents mosquitoes from getting their proboscis through without sacrificing breathability. The fabric is also made to resist deforming, meaning a spin through the washing machine won’t affect protection. It’s set to launch in spring 2025. Electric reels for sea fishing are typically powered by a cord plugged into a power source. If you’ve been on a boat, you know that “wet surface” and “thing that can be tripped on” don’t mix. The Fathom Electric reel ditches those cords for a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Despite the battery, the reels are impressively lightweight at 60, 71, and 84 ounces, depending on size. The reel also has bonus features like an easy-to-use LED display with customizable settings. According to , an average of 28 people die in avalanches every winter in the United States. Getting accurate avalanche data involves lots of research, and reports are typically written for professionals. Even the most advanced professional guide makes assumptions when looking at avalanche data. The Aspect Avy app combines historical data, live data from the North American Public Avalanche Danger Scale, “ ,” and LiDAR mapping to give those visiting or living in snow country an accurate, dynamic view of daily conditions. The app’s “go” and “no’go” slope categorizations make it easier to understand reports and make safe decisions in the mountains. They also keep winter explorers out of the runout zone if an avalanche is likely to occur above them. Starting in 2025, several states including New York and California will ban the sale of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances ( ) in apparel. Other states are set to follow in the years after. PFAS has been integral to waterproofing—and can be found in other components like zippers and webbing—yet they’re forever chemicals, and harmful to the environment. Patagonia’s built-from-the-ground-up M10 collection is an indication of what’s to come in the textile space. The waterproof membrane is borrowed from the car battery industry, which uses mechanically made nanoporous membranes to separate ions. In the M10, these consistent-sized pores keep rain and snow out without PFAS but let heat and sweat escape even better than the rain jackets and ski shells we’re used to.Colorado continues to work on defense, faces South Dakota State

Holiday shopping isn’t over for the Los Angeles Lakers , who are “monitoring the sellers around the NBA,” per ESPN’s Shams Charania. Singling out the Portland Trail Blazers, Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors, and Chicago Bulls as potential trade suitors, the insider reveals that L.A. is willing to move up to three first-round picks for immediate help. The caveat is that they want a player who Lakers head coach JJ Redick can help mold after LeBron James retires. Shams Charania: “They’re [Lakers] monitoring the sellers around the NBA: Portland, Washington, Toronto, maybe Chicago.” pic.twitter.com/mnEgZNcIZP — Omer Osman (@OmerOsman200) December 26, 2024 If so, the Wizards are the best option among the listed teams. Wizards Trade Fits Lakers’ Needs Most Amid Recent Rumors Toronto Raptors The Toronto Raptors appear committed to the young core of Immanuel Quickley , RJ Barrett , and Scottie Barnes right now. As a result, Jakob Poeltl would likely be the focus of and best player in their trade talks, even if the Lakers had their eye on young players like Gradey Dick and Ja’Kobe Walter . A broad shouldered center with a familiar European game, Poeltl can definitely fortify their frontcourt rotation. Portland Trail Blazers A package from the Blazers would likely revolve around Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant . There aren’t many differences between Simons and D’Angelo Russell , who L.A. has been dangling as trade bait. Yet, the best part of adding Simons is his youth, as he’s just 25 years old. Grant is probably a more valuable addition as he’s a more advanced scorer than Rui Hachimura is right now. However, the former ninth overall pick is valuable glue piece in the starting lineup. Giving him fewer minutes may not work in their favor. The same goes for the idea of Grant allowing James to rest more. Chicago Bulls High-flying wing Zach LaVine might finally land in Los Angeles after years of speculation. That is, unless the Lakers turned their attention to Nikola Vucevic , whose blistering hot shooting could open up the paint for players like James and Anthony Davis . LaVine is a deadly marksman himself though, which should matter for a team that ranks in the bottom-10 in three-point conversions, three-point attempts, and three-point percentage (.348). If the Lakers are set on adding a younger player, 2021 No. 6 pick Josh Giddey fits the description. In the immediate future, he’d be a high IQ floor general who stabilized the point guard position. Down the line, he could star in it. Washington Wizards If the Lakers were able to strike a deal with the Wizards, they could come away with a package that includes Kyle Kuzma , Jonas Valanciunas , and Jordan Poole . However, the math suggests that L.A. would have to be willing to trade Hachimura to acquire the Poole. Kuzma hasn’t gotten off to a great start this season. Nonetheless, he’s an underrated scorer with playmaker who won a championship with L.A. in 2020. Valanciunas, who’s even more skilled than Poeltl, was among the players James was willing to take a small paycut for this offseason. Poole, an NBA champion with a smooth offensive game, also has a tendency to shine in the clutch. By making this trade, it’ll be like consolidating the other potential packages. Like Grant, Kuzma —who should already have chemistry with James and Davis —helps solidify the frontcourt rotation. Valanciunas does the same. Furthermore, whether or not his three-ball is falling like Vucevic’s, he possesses the physical tools the Lakers have been looking for at center. Poole isn’t as explosive as Simons or LaVine but he’s quick, crafty, and on fire .
