[PRO] Buffett's biggest war chest Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is currently holding $325 billion in cash — the largest amount it's hoarded in absolute terms. Cash now comprises around 30% of Berkshire's total assets, the highest proportion in 34 years, according to data from Oppenheimer. Buffett sold large quantities of Apple and Bank of America shares this year. Why is the 94-year-old legendary investor holding on to so much cash? Analysts weigh in. U.S. markets began the trading week in holiday cheer. The S&P 500 gained 0.73% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average , recovering from earlier losses, ticked up 0.16%. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.98% on the back of strong performances from large tech firms such as Nvidia , Tesla and Meta Platforms . However, shares of bitcoin proxy MicroStrategy slumped 8.8% on its first day in the Nasdaq-100 index, following the cryptocurrency's price falling to below $93,000 on Monday. That said, MicroStrategy is still among the best-performing U.S. tech companies valued at $5 billion or more, according to FactSet data. Its shares have rocketed 426% so far this year, mostly thanks to the company's stockpile of bitcoins , which it started to amass in 2020. With the rally in bitcoin following Donald Trump's election victory, MicroStrategy's bitcoin holding is now worth around $42 billion. It's the basis for the company's market capitalization ballooning to $82 billion from roughly $1.1 billion from the time it began buying bitcoin in bulk. Investors looking to ride on MicroStrategy's explosive rise should remember that the company's share price is currently trading on the back of bitcoin prices. The flipside of it is that if bitcoin prices crater for any reason — volatile as cryptocurrency can be — MicroStrategy shares may stumble too. Trading is likely to be thin this week. Markets in the U.S. will close early on Tuesday and take a break on Wednesday for Christmas Day. But light trading doesn't mean small moves in markets. "With the market's primary uptrends still intact, we are not giving up on the potential for a Santa Claus to come to Broad & Wall this year," Craig Johnson, chief market technician at Piper Sandler, said in a note. As investors celebrate the festivities — and the S&P's 25.25% year-to-date pop — they might find an extra present underneath the tree. — CNBC's Yun Li, MacKenzie Sigalos and Ari Levy contributed to this report. CNBC Daily Open will be on hiatus and return next year. Happy holidays!

Cleaning your log burner glass is not only essential for aesthetic reasons, but also so that it can properly heat your home. All good quality stoves are manufactured with air-wash technology, meaning the glass stays very clear for long periods. That being said, even if you are burning good quality wood fuel at optimum temperatures, it is inevitable that the build-up of stains on the glass will occur. Using the vast array of glass cleaning products available it is relatively easy to clean your glass. However, this can set you back some money. To avoid spending anything or using any chemicals, one cleaning fan took to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page to share “incredible” results after taking on advice from her fellow group members. Amanda Clark shared pictures of her filthy log burner glass covered in crusty black and brown stains before sharing another which showed spotless results. So how did she tackle the task? She revealed that ash left behind from the previous fires and newspapers she picked up free was the secret. Amanda said: “You guys are amazing, thank you so much! Five minutes using ash and a few pages of the newspaper I got free from the tube made the stains wipe off incredibly well. Honestly, I wouldn’t use anything else now.” Many group members suggested Amanda use ash and newspaper when she first asked for advice. Tracey Lampert said: “I got told by my chimney sweep to use ash with newspaper.” Kirsty Pearse commented: “Use damp crumpled newspaper or a paper towel, dip it in ash and use this to clean wood stove glass. If the glass has a lot of buildup, try burning a couple of high-temperature fires in the wood stove before attempting to clean the glass.” Jane Clark wrote: “Get some newspaper and water. Wet the paper, dip it in the cold ashes and run over the glass. “Wipe off with kitchen paper or cloth works a treat. Make sure you are using the correct wood and this should not happen. Usually happens if the wood you burn has too much moisture in it.” Skyla Annette said: “Scrunched up newspaper dampened with water then dip it in some ash then rub your glass.” Even the experts at Ignite Stoves & Fires are fans of this hack. They said: “Rather than using the stove glass cleaning products you’ve purchased, simply use the wood ash within the stove to clean the glass! “Yes, that’s right the ash byproduct from burning wood in your stove can be used to clean the glass. “We’d heard about this trick and for a long time, doubted its effectiveness. However a few years ago when we tried it, we couldn’t believe how well it worked.”Investors eye bullish 2025 as S&P 500 rallies on AI and growth policies

The NCAA is moving toward increasing football scholarship totals from 85 to 105, simultaneously invoking the opposite of Emma Lazarus’s welcoming words to U.S.A. arrivals: “Walk-ons not welcome in college sports’ future.” Next, and sadly monstrous, SEC schools have been required to publish injury reports throughout game weeks, so gamblers are bettor informed. In the aftermath of the NCAA’s December 4 early signing date for high school football players, on December 9, fans can monitor the transfer pothole, that’s already produced a season of seemingly unexplainable losses/wins. Speaking of the pothole, Alabama (9-3) has 13 transfers; Auburn (5-7) has 38; and Colorado (9-3) has 51. Troy, with 52, boasted a 4-8 record. Arizona State has 65 transfers. Nowadays, it’s not how many starred players a college signs; it’s how many it keeps ... by recruiting/paying its current players daily. There has to be ill will when players emerge from the pothole and are inserted ahead of same position players, who’ve paid with practices/sweat/injuries to play at their school and were projected starters until the new guys arrived. As everyone knows, there’s no “team” in “I.” We may all end up Notre Dame fans. That’s today’s NCAA football. Moving to amateur sports, let’s remember Enterprise High School’s football season that ended one game short of the rematch the Wildcats wanted to play: Central/Phenix City. Here’s how Enterprise opponents ended 95-55 in combined 2024 records: Andalusia—7-5, second-round playoff loss; Pike Road—10-4, semi-final loss; Dothan—5-5; Auburn—10-1, second-round loss; Central—10-2 in Wednesday’s 7A Championship Game vs. Thompson; Carver—6-3; Opelika—9-3, second-round loss; J.A.G.—2-9; Smiths Station—0-10; Austin—9-2, first-round loss to EHS; Baker—9-3, second-round loss to EHS; Thompson—8-5, played Central in Wednesday 7A Championship; Choctawhatchee—10-3, third-round playoff loss. Enterprise outscored opponents, 341-254, went 4-2 at home, 4-3 away. And now they’re getting ready for next year. Hmmm.
