By KELVIN CHAN, Business Writer LONDON (AP) — Looking for a new social media platform because X, Threads and Mastodon just aren’t cutting it? You could try Bluesky . People seeking to avoid chaos, noise and political bluster in the aftermath of the U.S. elections are noticing a different mood on the Bluesky social platform, where the vibe is seemingly welcoming and there are noticeably fewer trolls. The site announced it had rapidly added more than a million new users in the week after Election Day, and has emerged as one of the fastest growing rivals to Elon Musk’s X and similar platforms. If you’re tempted to check out the new space, here’s a guide on how Bluesky works: Maybe you’re not ready to commit to adding yet another social media account. No problem — you can still look around on Bluesky without signing up because all posts and profiles are public. You might get a sense of deja vu because the platform’s look and feel are very similar to X. That should be no surprise because Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey was an early Bluesky champion. (Dorsey’s no longer involved with Bluesky, which is owned and run by its executive team as a public benefit corporation.) If you take the plunge and get an account, you’ll need a username. You’ll notice Bluesky handles are a little bit different because they end by default in the site’s domain, .bsky.social. You can personalize your handle to make it more memorable, by using your own website’s domain or buying a custom one through Bluesky. But it might not be something most newbie users need or want to do right away. Bluesky boasts that it gives users “algorithmic choice” to tailor the content they’re shown instead of leaving it up to the whims of a centralized system. “Our online experience doesn’t have to depend on billionaires unilaterally making decisions over what we see,” it says . What it means is that you can follow custom feeds set up by other users, or design your own. If you tap #Feeds in the menu on the left, you’ll see some default offerings like Cat Pics and Gardening. My Bangers is a list of your most popular posts by likes and Catch Up shows the site’s most popular posts from the past 24 hours. You can find more by doing a search and tapping the Feeds button. There’s also the usual “Discover” feed of suggested posts and a chronological feed of accounts that you follow. To help new users settle in, Bluesky has starter packs of recommended feeds and accounts to follow, which anyone can create and share. They don’t show up in Bluesky’s search results but can be found in directories online . Or someone might share one with you. After I signed up, a colleague pointed me to one for major news outlets . There are tens of thousands of starter packs, ranging from broadly appealing topics like Taylor Swift to niche interests like cargo bikes or U.K. comedians . You can follow the whole pack or scroll down the list to choose individual accounts. What about people you followed on X? There’s a browser extension tool called Sky Follower Bridge that will help you find X users who’ve migrated to Bluesky. But check before clicking the follow button to make sure it’s not a different user using the same display name or handle. Ready to join the conversation? You can write posts or reply to others but keep it short because there’s a limit of 300 characters — 20 more than on X. You can also upload photos and videos, though videos can’t be longer than 60 seconds. GIFs and emojis are, of course, available too. You can still @ people by typing in their username, like posts by tapping a heart icon or use hashtags to highlight a theme. Bluesky has added a menu to hashtags, so when you click on one you’ll get different options for seeing, or muting, posts on that topic. Bluesky’s decentralization ethos extends to the content control options it offers. For starters, users can choose in their settings menu whether to see replies, reposts or quote posts in their feed. Specific words or tags can be muted temporarily, or forever, while accounts can be muted or blocked individually, or in bulk by adding them a moderation list. You can even fine tune the level of adult content that shows up in your feed. Bluesky has a team of content moderators to police the site for material that’s illegal or breaks the rules. But it’s also taking a different approach by open sourcing its content moderation system in an attempt to resolve problems with traditional moderation services which it says “lack transparency and user control.” So, individuals or groups can set up their own content filters, or labelers, that go beyond what Bluesky offers. These labelers can be used to categorize content or users, which can then be blocked or hidden. But they could also be used for informational or creative purposes, like curating or verifying content. There are labelers to identify images generated by artificial intelligence or to fact check news posts. You can find lists of labelers online. After I subscribed to a U.S. politics labeler, some posts in my feeds were flagged “!Donald Trump” or “!Democrat politician” and hidden unless I click Show. WORCESTER – It took a couple of overtime periods, but Oliver Ames is back on top for the third straight season. Senior captain Jackson Mercieri delivered the lone goal as he hit home the game-winner in the 102nd minute during the second overtime period to lift No. 3 Oliver Ames over No. 4 Hingham in the Div. 2 state boys soccer final at Worcester State University on Saturday. “All joking aside, I’d like to thank the Lord for keeping (our kids) safe and healthy all year because we were very thin at times,” said Oliver Ames coach John Barata. “So, I do thank God that we were healthy and that he was able to help navigate this season, which was a very long season.” With Hingham (19-3-1) turning its offensive pressure up during the end of regulation and the overtime periods, Oliver Ames (18-2-2) used a timeout to collect itself after a near game-ender by Hingham’s Aadam Healey. After that timeout, the Tigers pushed the ball up field and Mercieri was able to finish it off before heading towards the Oliver Ames fans to celebrate. “I just said, ‘Let’s finish this damn thing. Let’s stick to the game plan to get the ball to Jackson,’ ” Barata said about what he told his team during the timeout. “We’ve been here. (Hingham) is nervous as hell. You can tell because they settled with four guys back the whole game. So, they kind of helped us. ... We didn’t want to go to PKs.” Over the first 80 minutes, there were only two shots on net before each team traded shots on goal in the second overtime period. “It’s the winning culture,” said Mercieri about being part of a three-peat. “It’s what we strive for. We keep ourselves to such high standards that we want to have nothing less. We want nothing less than to win every single game we play. We just believe in the bottom of our hearts. We just believe. It’s just the culture we have and it’s in the blood of OA.”Trimble’s 2025 Construction Industry Outlook: Key Trends and Predictions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the decisive mandate in favour of BJP-led Mahayuti in Maharashtra Assembly elections as a victory of a united OBC, SC and ST community against the divisive forces, alluding to the Congress-led INDIA bloc which has alleged that there is a threat to the Constitution and reservations under NDA rule. He reiterated the “Ek Hai to Safe Hai” slogan propagated by him and the BJP in the elections, underlining that as long as it is upheld India will march unhindered towards becoming a developed nation. Assembly Election Results Live Updates Maharashtra Election Results Jharkhand Election Results Bypoll Election Results In his victory speech at the BJP headquarters here, Prime Minister Modi underlined that this victory soon after winning in Haryana polls is a mandate for development, good governance and real social justice, and a strong rebuff to “falsehood, ulterior designs and duplicity”. “Ek Hai to Safe Hai. This has become the Maha-mantra of the nation. Congress and its ecosystem had thought that by lying in the name of the Constitution and reservations they would be able to divide SC/ST/OBC into fragments. Maharashtra has negated this. It has vociferously said, ‘Ek Hai to Safe Hai. It has taught a lesson to divisive forces,” Modi said. He asserted that the ST, OBC and SCs have all voted for BJP-NDA. “This verdict is a strong attack on the INDIA bloc view of dividing the nation. Maharashtra has given a befitting reply. We also combine development and heritage as we move ahead,” the prime minister said. Modi maintained that good governance of the BJP governments at the Centre and in several states has won three consecutive victories in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Gujarat, Goa and now Maharashtra (for NDA) as well as the NDA at the Centre. In “In the last 50 years, no party or any pre-poll alliance has won such a massive victory (in Maharashtra). This is also the third consecutive time that any BJP alliance has been blessed by the people of Maharashtra. Again, this is the third time that BJP has emerged as the largest party in the state. This is historic and a stamp on the governance model of BJP,” Modi said, adding that BJP alone has got more seats than all the Opposition combined. The prime minister claimed that when it comes to good governance people only have faith in the NDA. “To choose stability consecutively for the third time shows the maturity of the people of Maharashtra. In between some people tried to create disturbance by deceiving us. Voters have punished them,” Modi said. Paying obeisance to Shiv Sena founder Bala Saheb Thackeray and Veer Savarkar, the prime minister alleged that Congress has done a great disservice by dividing SS for its political gains. “Maharashtra has also exposed the two-facedness of Aghadi. Bala Saheb Thackeray left behind a major legacy. Congress broke his party into two factions... It has also insulted Veer Savarkar. Though for getting votes, it temporarily stopped abusing him,” he said. The prime minister described Congress as a “parasite party” and maintained it has been decimated in Maharashtra. “The fact is that Congress has become a parasite party; it sinks its ally with it. The strike rate of Aghadi parties is less than 20%. Congress lost 4 out 5 seats it contested. Its allies also performed like it,” Modi said, adding, “The urban naxalism of Congress is posing a challenge in front of the country. Everybody has to understand this truth about the Congress.” The prime minister launched a scathing attack on Congress, alleging that it has failed to gauge the mood of the nation and is underestimating the voter. “The voter does not want instability. The voter does not like those for whom it is ‘Kursi (power)-first’,” he said. The voter is also keeping a close eye on the performance of parties in various states they are in power. “In Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh , people can see how Congress governments are betraying the mandate of the people. You will notice this in Punjab (AAP ruled) too. Hence, the people have trashed the hypocrisy of Congress (in Maharashtra),” Modi said. The prime minister also took on the Opposition for alleging the Constitution is under threat. “Another message of this verdict is that only one Constitution will work in this country- the Constitution of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Anybody who talks about another Constitution will be defeated. In Jammu and Kashmir, another attempt to restore Article 370 has been made. Maharashtra’s verdict has shown this will not work. Congress should hear it with open ears that no force can bring back Article 370,” Modi said. He charged Congress with sowing the “seeds of appeasement”, saying this is a big betrayal of the people and the Constitution. “Congress played this game- made laws for appeasement, ignoring even the Supreme Court- for decades. The Wakf Board is one example of it. In 2014, while relinquishing power they handed over some properties around Delhi. Wakf Law has no place in Ambedkar’s Constitution. But Congress created Wakf law for appeasement,” Modi said. The Wakf Board Bill is with the Joint Parliamentary Committee and may come up for discussion in the winter session of Parliament starting on November 25. He alleged that the “royal family” of Congress, alluding to Nehru-Gandhis- is trying to create caste divisions by spreading the poison of caste to satiate its hunger for power. “It has become difficult for committed workers to function in Congress as serving the interest of the family has become primary. Its Shahi family cannot stay out of power. Going to the South and abusing the North, going to North and abusing the South; going abroad and abusing the country,” Modi said. It's clear Taylor Swift couldn't be happier as the latest Kelce baby news was announced on Friday. The pop megastar showed her support for her boyfriend Travis Kelce's brother, Jason , and his wife, Kylie, as they announced to the world via Instagram that they are expecting their fourth child together. Kylie posted a picture of the three girls that she shares with Jason - Wyatt, five, Elliotte, three and Bennett, 20 months - all wearing matching "big sister" sweaters. "I feel like we captured a very accurate representation of how each of the girls feel about getting another sister," she wrote in the caption, referencing Wyatt holding her hands over her ears and Bennett in tears, while Elliotte grinned widely. "At least Ellie, mom and dad are on the same page!" she quipped. Taylor showed her excitement for Jason and Kylie by liking the post, causing fans to jump to the comments and refer to her as "Aunty Tay". "Aunt tay to be once again," one fan wrote, while another commented, "Auntie tay!!!! congrats jason & kylie". Taylor began dating NFL superstar Travis in September 2023, and the pair have been inseparable since. The 34-year-old can be seen frequenting Travis' games in showstopping outfits, while the podcast host loves to dance up a storm in the VIP tent at Taylor's Eras Tour Show. Her social media support comes just days after Travis opened up about fatherhood in an appearance on Prime Video's Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity? When a guest told him that having kids makes you "wiser", he reacted excitedly. "Is that what happens when you have kids? You get smarter? Man, that's all I had to do to become brilliant?" he joked. The guest quipped, "Just have a baby," spurring the audience to cheer. For their part, Jason and Kylie Kelce couldn't be happier for the A-list couple. "Ultimately, if Trav is happy, we're happy," Kylie said in an April interview on the Today show. "We are always cheering on Uncle Trav. It's such a treat to be able to do that on and off the field." The mom of three called Taylor and Travis' romance "amazing"; Jason also frequents the Eras Tour , leading to him becoming a fan-favorite with the Swifties. While the couple have yet to comment on their future plans together, Taylor is wrapping up her record-breaking tour on December 8 in Vancouver and will likely take time off from her grueling schedule to be with her boyfriend. Sunderland fans have expressed their frustrations after Régis Le Bris’ side conceded a late equaliser against Millwall at The Den. An injury-hit Sunderland side were forced to settle for a point at Millwall after Femi Azeez’s stoppage-time goal. The Black Cats looked to have secured an outstanding win, given their injury issues, after Aaron Connolly’s first goal for the club early in a first half that was delayed for half an hour due to medical emergencies in the crowd. Advertisement Advertisement Here, though, we take a look at how Sunderland fans reacted to the result on The Echo’s social media pages: Niall Tansey said: “Frustrating draw but considering the players we have available + Connolly going off injured. Fair result. Although Aleksic should have scored at the end.” Dean Cummings said: “Totally comfortable first half... 2nd half we allowed the composure to totally desert us and barely come over halfway. We're shooting ourselves in the foot. Pick up 3 points on Tuesday and today's point will be a good one.” TJ Brown added: “I get that he might not be a big fan of Adil, Ba, Anderson and Jewi but the absolute refusal to use them baffles me. All are perfectly capable of coming in as a sub and we need their fresh legs.” Advertisement Advertisement Elliot Luke said: “Can we talk about being ‘found out’ yet? I don’t mean le Bris, I mean the squad. 1 game since Luton (Oxford) where they didn’t just pump the ball into the box and play for set pieces. Luton showed people how to cause us problems and they’ve all done it. Lee Ingram commented: “Sometimes we forget that there are two teams playing. We have no divine right to control games. Millwall are strong at home, beating both Burnley and Leeds recently. We are decimated by injuries and suspensions. Didn't we concede when not sitting back.” Adrian Young concluded: Felt like a loss, due to all in the injuries and suspensions but we never learnt our lesson from the Coventry game. excellent 1st half but poor 2nd half. We cannot kill teams off when on top.”

Player safety has recently become a topic of conversation in the sports world, and the NBA is the latest major professional league to raise awareness as it relates to home security. The league sent a memo to team officials after Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley were victims of home invasions. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the memo. The NBA noted that the FBI believes a number of the burglaries were connected to "transnational South American Theft Groups" that are "reportedly well-organized, sophisticated rings that incorporate advanced techniques and technologies, including pre-surveillance, drones, and signal jamming devices." The Timberwolves guard participated in the Vikings' traditional pregame festivities as he helped fire up the more than 66,000 fans inside U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, but while Conley was attending the game, his home in Medina, Minnesota, several miles away, was targeted by thieves, police said. Burglars left the property with jewelry, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported at the time. NFL ISSUES SECURITY WARNING AFTER BURGLARIES AT MAHOMES, KELCE'S HOMES LINKED TO 'ORGANIZED' GROUP: REPORTS Medina Police Chief Jason Nelson noted that Conley's property was one of three home burglaries that authorities investigated on the same day. The NFL issued a similar warning memo to its teams this week. "Obviously, it’s frustrating, disappointing, but I can’t get into too many of the details because the investigation is still ongoing," Mahomes recently said. The shop is known for selling brand-name and designer clothing at discounted prices. But a fashion stylist recently noticed a problem with some of the clothes on the rails and urged shoppers to think twice before picking clothes up there. Kenzie Welch took to Instagram and explained that despite her love of the budget-friendly retailer she can't un-see one major probloem. "Ever since I noticed this one thing I can never look at their clothing the same," she explained. The issue? Some of the cloths in the shop aren't quite up to scratch and have some subtle design flaws. To prove her point, Kenzie picked up a trendy silver midi skirt which looked perfectly fine at first glance. But when she turned it around the show the back of the garment she pointed out that the back pockets were unevenly spaced out, which could make it fit weird on your bum, she said. And it wasn't just the one skirt that had this subtle design problem all of the silver skirts on the rail did too. The problem continued with a cable knit jumper, which also looked totally fine at first. But, unlike the rest of the same jumpers on the rail, one of them was missing a design feature on the top of the sleeve, which might seem like a small problem but could completely change the way the garment fits and looks. Elsewhere in the shop, a plaid shacket also fell victim to the same issue. Kenzie explained: "Here on this shacket you can see the pockets are misaligned, so this one is slightly higher on the left "It's not the most obvious thing you would notice but I can't walk into a TK Maxx anymore and not notice these small details." And if you thought the problem wouldn't continue into the show section - you'd be wrong. Kenzie also found a pair of UGG boot dupes which had been stitched up wrong, leaving some of the inside panelling of the shoe visible. Unlike the skirt, it seemed like the problem was only on one pair of the shoes though. "Make sure you are inspecting your clothing at TK Maxx," she added. After sharing her video on social media people were left divided over the issue. One commented on the clip: "That's literally why they're at TK Maxx." A second agreed: "That's why a lot of these items end up at TK Maxx, many of them are seconds, meaning they had slaws when created so ended up in discount shops." But others thanked Kenzie for pointing the issue out. "This is great intel , thank you," one said. "That's fascinating! Such great tips to look out for, I had no idea," another fashion fan wrote. And someone else added: "I've noticed this and have to remind myself to slow down and be more mindful when shopping! "Stop and inspect the quality of things!"
