The Bears had their best shooting performance of the season, finishing 57.4% from the floor while hitting 15 3-pointers, their most in a game since setting a program record with 17 last season. “Once we started to defend, we started to rebound, we turned them over a little bit,” Baylor head coach Nicki Collen said. “We started to get out in transition and got just about anything we wanted. We did a good job getting the ball downhill and then moving it to open shooters. And then, ultimately, stepped up and made a lot of 3’s today. “Really good, balanced team effort all the way around.” Five different Baylor players scored in double figures, led by junior Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, who finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. And I thought that kind of relaxed us.” The Bears will play Indiana in the semifinals Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Baylor and Southern Miss battled back-and-forth for most of the first quarter until Felder hit a 3-pointer with under four minutes to play and the Bears ended the quarter on a 13-6 run to take a seven-point lead. The premiers and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau talked about using their political diversity and connections to thwart the prospect of Trump's proposed 25 per cent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, Eby said Thursday in a year-end interview. He said it was discussed that conservative premiers Danielle Smith in Alberta, Doug Ford in Ontario and Nova Scotia's Tim Houston are well-placed to lobby Republican governors and business leaders. Eby said as a New Democrat he will likely have more in common with Democrat governors and business leaders from the West Coast states. "I can easily have conversations with governors and businesses down the West Coast of the U.S., where we have close relationships and our politics are very similar," he said. "Premier Smith can have conversations with Republican governors. That would be more challenging for me, and (she) would have more connections potentially with the Trump administration than an NDP administration in B.C. would." He said a meeting last week between the premiers and Trudeau discussed Canada's diversity of representation, and how it could bring leverage and advantages in tariff talks. "It's interesting, there was a lot of talk about what unity means in terms of Canada's response to the tariffs," he said. "There's obviously a diversity of views around the Council of the Federation table of all the premiers. Certainly, mine is not the same as Premier Smith's or Premier Ford's or Premier Houston's, and that diversity of views is actually potentially a significant strength for us as we enter into these discussions." Eby also said he was prepared to appear on American's right-leaning Fox News TV network, as did premiers Ford and Smith. "Anything that I can do to support the national effort to protect the families in Canada from the impact of tariffs and also families in the U.S. from those unjustified tariffs," he said. "Absolutely, if I thought it was helpful." This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 5, 2024. Dirk Meissner, The Canadian PressOntario municipal councillors could be removed from office and disqualified from running again under new provincial legislation introduced Thursday that would increase penalties for violating a municipal code of conduct. Municipalities have for years been calling for updated codes of conduct to address workplace harassment, as well as stricter penalties for those who violate the rules, including removal from office. Municipal Affairs Minister Paul Calandra introduced a bill today that would allow for the creation of a standard code of conduct for all municipalities and penalties of removing and disqualifying a member from office if they are in serious violation of the code. The government says that removal and disqualification could only happen if the municipal integrity commissioner recommends it, if Ontario’s integrity commissioner agrees and if councillors except for the member in question unanimously agree to it in a vote. Calandra also introduced a Peel Transition Implementation Act, to transfer some services currently handled by Peel Region to its three municipalities of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. That comes after Ontario reversed course on a plan to dissolve the regional government, instead promising to find efficiencies in its management.Kolpack: A major league meltdown for Bison in Vermillion

Rookie Bucky Irving relishes opportunity to help Buccaneers any way he can against skidding RaidersCousins Properties Announces Pricing of Senior Notes OfferingProsecutors rested their case Thursday in the trial of Nima Momeni, the tech consultant accused of fatally stabbing Cash App founder Bob Lee in April 2023 . The move marks the end of testimony in the trial and a step towards jury deliberation where a panel of 12 San Franciscans will decide Momeni's fate. Thursday's testimony was marked by compelling testimony from Lee's longtime friends, who described him as a kind and gentle person, even while under the influence of drugs, in a striking rebuttal to the defense's portrayal of him as aggressive in the early morning hours of April 4, 2023. Lee's brother, Timothy Oliver Lee, expressed gratitude for the friends who took the stand, sharing personal stories that brought Bob's character to life in the courtroom. "I think he would have appreciated his friends coming here, coming under fire, and opening up their lives to scrutiny," Timothy said. "I think he would have been very proud." Longtime friends testified that Lee, affectionately called a "teddy bear," was known for his smile and calm demeanor. Even when using drugs, they said, he remained kind and often diffused tense situations rather than escalating them. "He was fun, kind ... he was just always there to smile and have great conversation and loved hugs he was just an extremely kind, generous, loving human being," one witness who said they knew Lee since 2015, said of his character while he was under the influence. Another friend who said they knew Lee since 2004, described him as "a teddy bear, he's incredibly affectionate incredibly sweet, he loved to talk highly about his friends ... he would have deep conversations so all of those qualities just got enhanced," while under the influence of narcotics. A third witness, who said they knew Lee since 2017, said "he could be really amazing at diffusing a situation, reminding two people in a relationship fighting that you love each other," the witness said, adding that Lee was "not someone who would get aggressive." Attorney Shannan Dugan highlighted the impact of this testimony, saying it could directly undermine the defense's claim that Lee acted aggressively the night of the fatal confrontation with Momeni. "It had the power today to do great damage to the defense and Nima Momeni's testimony," Dugan said. Momeni's defense hinges on his account that Lee, while high on cocaine and ketamine, became erratic and aggressive after he made a "bad joke" at the expense of Lee's family. Momeni has claimed he acted in self-defense after Lee allegedly lunged at him with a knife. However, the prosecution countered with testimony challenging this narrative. Friends insisted Lee was not the type to engage in a physical confrontation, or speak negatively about others, even under the influence of drugs. "The question hanging over this case for the jury," Dugan noted, "is whether Bob Lee was the type of person who would conceal a knife, take it to the scene of a crime, and act aggressively. Based on today's testimony, the answer was a resounding no." As Thanksgiving approaches, Lee's family is grappling with their loss. Lee's brother Oliver reflected on the holiday's bittersweet nature, saying the family will keep a seat open for Bob at their table. "We're going to miss him a lot this Thanksgiving. It's going to be, you know, a smaller table," he said. The trial is now paused for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with closing arguments scheduled for Dec. 2. Both sides will then make their final cases to the jury, which must decide whether to convict or acquit Momeni.
Srinagar, Nov 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday said that government jobs cannot resolve the entire employment crisis. “Reality is that we can’t give government jobs to everyone,” the CM said after laying the foundation stone for the upgradation of a hi-tech flower nursery and the development of Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood (Chrysanthemum Theme Garden) here in Srinagar. “Unemployment will not end with government jobs in J&K. We will give as much as we can. But until we increase the private sector, we will not be able to treat this disease of unemployment. We hope that big owners will come from abroad and set up factories here, but they will not.” The hi-tech flower nursery and the development of Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood projects are being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 4.83 crore and Rs 1.87 crore. The upgraded nursery at the Poloview facility aims to serve not only as a resource centre for plants but also as an education hub. Workshops and training sessions will be conducted to empower growers and citizens with sustainable gardening practices. The Chrysanthemum Theme Garden, to be spread over 100 kanal, is poised to become a major autumn attraction. It will showcase vibrant blooms in shades of yellow, red, pink, and purple, adding charm to Kashmir’s tourism landscape during the traditionally quieter autumn months. CM Omar emphasised the significance of gardens in Kashmir’s heritage and tourism. He said: “The Kashmir valley is renowned worldwide for its breathtaking beauty, and within that charm, our gardens hold a special place. From the time people began visiting Kashmir, they either established gardens or made it a point to visit them. The Mughals, for instance, created iconic gardens like Cheshma Shahi, Nishat, Shalimar, and Harwan. Over time, visitors, even if they saw nothing else, ensured they visited these Mughal Gardens.” The CM highlighted how the introduction of the Tulip Garden transformed Kashmir’s tourist season. “Our tourism season was once limited to two periods: winter, when people came to witness snowfall or in May when visitors explored gardens and other scenic spots. However, with the establishment of the Tulip Garden, this pattern transformed. It extended our tourist season into March and April,” he said. “Today, people of Srinagar know how bustling the area around the Tulip Garden becomes during this time. It’s a challenge even to navigate through the traffic near the garden.” Addressing the need for a similar boost to autumn tourism, CM Omar commended the efforts of the Parks and Gardens Department and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir (SKUAST-K). “While the Tulip Garden has had a remarkable impact, a new challenge lies in utilising the ‘off-season’ months of October and November, before snowfall draws tourists to destinations like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam. To address this, I commend the Parks and Gardens Department and SKUAST-K for their role in introducing Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood – the Chrysanthemum Garden,” he said. The CM explained the potential of the Chrysanthemum Garden saying: “The chrysanthemum, a flower that blooms in autumn, has the potential to do for October and November what the Tulip Garden does for March and April. Visitors to this garden will also explore other parts of Kashmir, benefiting the entire ecosystem of tourism – be it Shikarawalas, taxi operators, houseboat owners, or others.” On the sustainability of the initiative, he said, “Importantly, unlike tulips, which require costly bulb imports to maintain the garden, chrysanthemums can be grown locally without external dependence. Our efforts are already underway to develop tulip bulbs locally to reduce imports and even export them in the future. With chrysanthemums, however, we are self-reliant from the start. I hope this initiative will be fully developed and marketed by next year, providing Srinagar with a new tourist destination in the form of the Chrysanthemum Garden.” On the occasion, the CM also spoke about the importance of promoting high-value, low-volume products like essential oils. “Lavender oil, mint oil, and similar products are already being exhibited, alongside cut flowers and contributions from progressive growers,” he said. CM Omar congratulated progressive farmers on their success and pledged government support, saying: “If you face any difficulties, do let us know so we can support you.” He emphasised the need to bolster the private sector to tackle unemployment. “It’s a reality that we cannot provide government jobs to everyone. Addressing unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir requires a shift beyond government employment. While we will create as many government jobs as possible, the solution lies in boosting the private sector. Unless we empower this sector, unemployment cannot be effectively tackled,” the CM said. He said that expecting large-scale foreign investments here (Kashmir) was a challenge. “Instead, we must focus on sectors with strong local foundations, such as agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, and floriculture,” CM Omar said. “To those already in these fields or those aspiring to enter them, I assure you that our government is committed to supporting you in every possible way. Together, we can strengthen floriculture and allied industries, paving the way for sustainable growth and opportunities.” Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani; Member of Legislative Assembly Sheikh Ahsan Ahmad; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri; Commissioner Secretary Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad; Director Floriculture Kashmir also attended the event. The Chrysanthemum Theme Garden, located within the Botanical Garden in Srinagar, is being developed at Rs 1.87 crore. With its blooms expected to colour late autumn, the garden is set to open to the public in Autumn 2025, marking a new chapter in Kashmir’s tourism story.
Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings vs Manchester City Tottenham Hotspur inflicted a third straight Premier League defeat to reigning champions Manchester City in what was a sensational performance by Ange Postecoglou’s men in his 50th league clash as Spurs boss. Manchester City had opportunities to go ahead but it was Tottenham who struck first in the 13th minute thanks to James Maddison’s excellent finish. The English international, whose future at the club has been called into question , doubled the lead seven minutes later to give the visitors a healthy cushion. A shell-shocked Manchester City were unable to come to terms with Tottenham’s energy and a former star of their drive home the result in the second half. Pedro Porro scored the visitors third in the 52nd minute to condemn the champions to yet another defeat. The loss gives Tottenham a shot in the arm in their aim to finish in the top four while severely denting City’s chances of a fifth straight league crown. Substitute Brennan Johnson added further wounds to Guardiola’s side by scoring a fourth in injury time. Here is how we think Tottenham Hotspur players fared in the game against Manchester City in the Premier League at home. GK | Guglielmo Vicario: (8/10) The Italian struggled with the national team in the international break but made an excellent stop to deny Erling Haaland in the first half when the game was yet scoreless. He also rose to the occasion in the second half, denying Ilkay Gundogan and Haaland to further frustrate the hosts. The performance should act as a much-needed confidence booster for the Spurs goalkeeper. RB | Pedro Porro: (7/10) The Spaniard’s stock has risen in recent times and he initially struggled to keep Savinho quiet. However, he readjusted his approach and improved as the game went on. A thunderous strike saw him score the visitors’ third of the night in what was yet another excellent outing for the full-back. CB | Radu Dragusin: (7/10) The Romanian has been subject to some criticism in recent months and his performance on the night will hardly be counted as a vintage one. However, he stood tall when needed and largely kept the Man City attackers at bay. CB | Ben Davies: (7/10) The senior-most figure in the Spurs backline, the Welshman made excellent use of his experience. Davies might not have been spectacular but help keep Phil Foden quiet and was at hand to deal with any trouble. His organisational skills also frustrated Man City on the night. LB | Destiny Udogie: (6/10) Not the Italian’s best night but he kept pushing and was not afraid to run up and down the flank when needed. Udogie made way for Djed Spence in the 90th minute. CM | Pape Matar Sarr: (5/10) He lost the ball a couple of times and also picked up a yellow card in the second half. However, Sarr’s physicality gave Tottenham a presence in the middle of the park and helped the visitors retain control in the middle of the park. CDM | Yves Bissouma: (6.5/10) An early yellow card put him on thin ice but Bissouma made his case in Rodrigo Bentancur’s absence. Bissouma put in a fighting performance and deserves credit for doing the dirty work in a key role. CM | James Maddison: (8/10) The birthday boy certainly upped the ante and showcased his best on a night when his team needed him. He times his run for the first goal while showcasing immaculate coolness to dispatch his side’s second of the night. Maddison petered off as the game went on as Spurs aimed to see out the result. RW | Dejan Kulusevski: (6/10) The Swede has been Tottenham’s best performer this season and once again found himself among the assist-makers on the night. He had Josko Gvardiol’s number and often led the Croatian in his wake. Speaking ahead of the game, Kulusevski was hopeful of making a difference and it is good to see him make good on that promise. LW | Son Heung-min: (6/10) A rather quiet night for the Spurs’ skipper, who is often Man City’s tormentor in chief. He singed Ederson’s gloves with a shot in the first half before earning himself an assist for Maddison’s second. He was taken off for Brennan Johnson in the second half. ST | Dominic Solanke: (6.5/10) The Englishman might not have gotten on the scoresheet but his ability to hold up the ball and bring his teammates into play remains a potent weapon. Solanke also secured himself an assist on the night. Substitutes: Brennan Johnson: (6/10) The Welshman came on for Son in the second half and scored his side’s fourth in the final minute of stoppage time. Djed Spence: (NA) A late substitute for Destiny Udogie as Tottenham sought to see the game out. Lucas Bergvall: (6/10) A late substitute for Pape Matar Sarr as Tottenham sought to see the game out. He also frustrated Manuel Akanji enough to secure the latter a yellow card. Timo Werner: (NA) A late substitute for Maddison, Werner provided the assist for Brennan Johnson’s coup de grace.
