ABUJA – The Minister of the Federal Cap­ital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a scathing re­buke of former Rivers State gov­ernor, Dr. Peter Odili, accusing him of engaging in sycophancy and lacking the integrity expect­ed of an elder statesman. Wike’s remarks came during a special thanksgiving service or­ganised by the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of As­sembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amae­whule, held at the Church of Ni­geria (Anglican Communion) in Port Harcourt on Sunday. The FCT minister in a state­ment signed by his Media Aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, criticised Odili for his recent comments, praising the current Rivers State governor as having surpassed the achievements of all previous gov­ernors, including Wike himself. Wike dismissed the comments as insincere and politically mo­tivated. “How can an elder statesman, someone who is supposed to be a father figure, reduce himself to a sycophant and a trader?” Wike asked. “Must you be a trader all the time? NSIB Plans N2bn For Construction Of Yola, Delta Offices LAGOS – The Federal Government has appropriated a total sum of N55,545,673,512 for the presidential fleet in the 2025 Appropriation Bill sent to the National Assembly. This also includes the appro­priation of N8,646,336,653 for the repair of air navigational equip­ment for the presidential fleet. The further breakdown of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, checked by Daily Independent , showed that the government earmarked the sum of N5,514,000,000 for the engine overhaul of one of the air­craft in the presidential fleet with the registration number, 5N-FGW. The document indicated that this was already “ongoing.” Also, the government planned to carry out overhaul of engines of another two aircraft, Falcon 7X, in the presidential fleet with the sum of N3,132,336,65. The document also showed that the project was “ongoing.” The Federal Government also earmarked the sum of N8,766,181,315 each for rehabilita­tion/repair of fixed assets in 2025. The rehabilitation/repair of fixed assets included the pres­idential building, N119,844,662 and air navigational equipment, N8,646,336,653. Also, the government intends to spend the sum of N1,550,000,000 as aircraft fuel cost in 2025 and another N1,255,700,000 on mainte­nance of aircraft in the presiden­tial fleet. The government also set aside the sum of N1,900,206,000 for fuel and lubricants for the presidential fleet, which included N100,860,000 for motor vehicle fuel cost for the fleet. For utilities, the govern­ment earmarked the sum of N224,787,194, which was dis­tributed as follows: electricity charges, N120,000,000; telephone charges, N10,514,622; internet access charges, N18,000,000; satellite broadcasting access charges, N15,000,000; water rates, N50,672,572 and sewerage charges at N10,600,000. The proposed budget further showed that the government ear­marked the sum of N3,325,000 for corps members kitting, transport and feeding allowance in the pres­idential fleet in the forthcoming year. Besides, the government pro­posed the total sum of N108,800 for miscellaneous with N6,850,000 earmarked for honorarium and sitting allowance; N18,678,000 for medical expenses; postages and courier services will gulp N49,000,000; subscription to pro­fessional bodies, N30,000,000 and another N550,800 for sporting ac­tivities. Between holiday breaks, visiting relatives' homes, attending festivities, and opening gifts galore, kids face extra risks for accidental exposure to poison. In addition to heart felt season’s greetings, the Nebraska Poison Center sends out reminders that changes in routine may increase risks for kids. Poison experts urge parents and party hosts to remember safety best practices. • Pretty holiday plants aren't edible. Keep small children and animals away from mistletoe, holly berries, yew plants and poinsettias. • Be mindful of small batteries. Toys, games, watches, remotes, and musical greeting cards may contain button or disc batteries. If swallowed, they can become stuck and cause serious injury or death if not removed. • Watch out for water beads and magnets in toys . Expanding water beads and rare earth magnets are inappropriate for those who may ingest them. Strong magnets can stick together in the intestines and trigger a medical emergency. If water beads are swallowed, they may swell and cause a blockage in the intestines. • Be on the lookout for nicotine-containing products, including vape liquid and chewing tobacco, as well as CBD and THC products . Cheryl Lucas, 38, allegedly stabbed Heath Speedie, 47, in the chest as he sat on the couch of their home in Park Lane, in the Ballarat suburb of Mount Helen, on Saturday. A young child was inside the home at the time of the alleged attack. Cheryl Lucas has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of her partner. Police arrested Lucas at the home shortly before 8am and later charged her with one count of murder . She appeared in Ballarat Magistrates’ Court for a brief filing hearing on Monday, after spending the weekend in police custody. Dressed in a light pink shirt and with her brown hair tied in a ponytail, Lucas was not required to speak during the proceedings and slumped in a half-shrug with her shoulders up. The court heard it was Lucas’ first time in custody and arrangements should be made for her to see a medical professional in prison for an assessment for “health concerns”. Speedie’s family members, who attended the hearing in person, refused to speak to the media outside court. Neighbour Doug Mills said most residents in the street kept to themselves, and Speedie and Lucas were no exception. He said Speedie had knocked on his door to introduce himself when the family first moved to the neighbourhood from the Ballarat suburb of Winter Valley, but he had limited interactions with him since.
