A high-profile barrister who was cleared of misconduct over social media posts has called on the head of the Bar Standards Board to resign. Dr Charlotte Proudman, who specialises in family law, had faced a Bar Standards Board (BSB) disciplinary tribunal over a 14-part Twitter thread criticising a judge’s ruling over a domestic abuse case, saying it echoed a “boys’ club”. However, the five charges against the 36-year-old were dropped on Thursday. In an interview with The Times, Dr Proudman described the position of Mark Neale, the board’s director-general, as “untenable” and said its chairwoman, Kathryn Stone, should also stand down. “They need a change, not just in those two individuals, though, because, of course, it seeps down to the rest of the organisation,” she said. She told the paper she “genuinely” wanted to work with the Bar Standards Board in helping them to understand how misogyny and sexism have impacted women at the bar. However, she said that “under the current leadership, it’s just not going to be possible”. The charges alleged Dr Proudman had “failed to act with integrity” in posting the tweets, that they amounted to professional misconduct, were “misleading” and “inaccurately reflected the findings of the judge” in the case. The women’s rights campaigner was also accused of behaving in a way “which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public placed in her and in the profession”, and that she “knowingly or recklessly misled or attempted to mislead the public” by making the posts. But panel chairman Nicholas Ainley found her tweets are protected under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998 and the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects the right of freedom of expression. He said her tweets did not “gravely damage” the judiciary, which would “put them outside” of Article 10 protection, even if they “might not have been pleasant for any judge to read” or even “hurtful”. “We take the view that the judiciary of England and Wales is far more robust than that,” he said. The panel also concluded that some of the tweets were only inaccurate “to a minor degree” and not to the extent necessary for a charge of a lack of integrity. Speaking after the hearing, Dr Proudman told the PA news agency: “This ruling is a victory for women’s rights and a right to freedom of speech. “The prosecution against me brought by my regulatory body, the Bar Standards Board, should never have happened and I said that from day one. “I criticised a domestic abuse judgment. Everyone should have the right to do that, whether you’re a barrister or not. Our justice system, which I strongly believe in, is robust enough to withstand criticism from me.” She believes her tweets help “foster confidence” in the justice system, adding: “Only that way can we go about building change and a better treatment for all victims, women and children and men who are affected by domestic abuse.” Explaining that the BSB appears to have spent almost £40,000 “of barristers’ money” on instructing counsel in her case, she added: “I think it’s shameful that they’re using our money to pay for, in my view, malicious, vexatious prosecutions which I have no doubt was a personal attack against me as a woman and as a feminist, as an outspoken critic and advocate for women’s rights.” Dr Proudman called for “systemic change” within the board. “They don’t understand gender, they don’t understand diversity, I don’t think they’ve ever heard of the concept misogyny and certainly not institutional misogyny,” she said. “Until they recognise the deeply rooted, entrenched issue of bullying, harassment, sexism at the bar, for which I have suffered relentlessly... and own up to it I don’t think we’re going to see any change and I have no confidence in them.” She told of how male barristers have called her insulting names on social media and made derogatory comments about her. In the posts on April 6 2022, Dr Proudman referenced a case in which her client alleged she had been subjected to coercive and controlling behaviour by her husband, a part-time judge, meaning she had been “unable to freely enter” the couple’s “post-nuptial” financial agreement. Commenting on the ruling by Family Court judge Sir Jonathan Cohen, Dr Proudman wrote: “I represented Amanda Traharne. “She said she was coerced into signing a post-nuptial agreement by her husband (who is a part-time judge). I lost the case. “I do not accept the Judge’s reasoning. I will never accept the minimisation of domestic abuse.” She continued: “Demeaning the significance of domestic abuse has the affect of silencing victims and rendering perpetrators invisible. “This judgement has echoes of (t)he ‘boys club’ which still exists among men in powerful positions.” In the thread, Dr Proudman wrote that the judge had described the relationship of the couple as “tempestuous”, which she argued was a “trivialisation” of domestic abuse. “Tempestuous? Lose his temper? Isn’t this the trivialisation of domestic abuse & gendered language. This is not normal married life,” she wrote.Pressure on a veteran and senator shows what's next for those who oppose Trump

Hesai Group Reports Third Quarter 2024 Unaudited Financial ResultsA disruptive ransomware attack on Blue Yonder, a supply chain management software provider for major retailers, consumer product companies, and manufacturers, highlights the heightened risk organizations face during the busy holiday season. A Nov. 21 attack on Blue Yonder affected infrastructure that the company uses to host a variety of managed services for customers, which include 46 of the top 100 manufacturers, 64 of the top 100 consumer product goods makers, and 76 of the top 100 retailers in the world. Among those reportedly most affected by the attacks are Morrisons and Sainsbury's, two of the UK's largest supermarket chains. British media outlet The Grocer quoted a Morrisons spokesperson as describing the Blue Yonder attack as affecting the smooth delivery of goods to stores in the UK. Availability of some product lines at wholesale and convenience locations could drop to as low as 60% of normal availability, the media outlet reported. In the US, Starbucks reported the Blue Yonder attack affecting a back-end process for employing scheduling and time-tracking . But besides that, there have been no confirmed reports so far of widespread disruptions resulting from the attack. Blue Yonder's US customers include Kimberly-Clark, Anheuser-Busch, Campbell's, Best Buy, Wegmans, and Walgreens. Related: Dark Reading Confidential: Meet the Ransomware Negotiators In its initial disclosure on Nov. 21, Blue Yonder said it experienced disruptions to its managed services hosted environment, which it determined was the result of a ransomware attack. The company said it was actively monitoring its Blue Yonder Azure public cloud environment but had not spotted any suspicious activity. "Since learning of the incident, the Blue Yonder team has been working diligently together with external cybersecurity firms to make progress in their recovery process," a Blue Yonder spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Dark Reading. "We have implemented several defensive and forensic protocols" to mitigate the issue. "We have notified relevant customers and will continue to communicate as appropriate. Additional updated information will be provided on our website as our investigation proceeds," the spokesperson added. The statement did not provide any kind of timeline by which it hopes to completely restore its systems. The fallout from the Blue Yonder attack is similar to that from other major supply chain attacks in recent times, including the ones on Progress Software's MOVEit file transfer software , Kaseya , WordPress , and Polyfill.io . In each instance, the threat actors behind the attacks managed to impact a broad swath of organizations by targeting a single trusted player in the software supply chain. Related: Fancy Bear 'Nearest Neighbor' Attack Uses Nearby Wi-Fi Network The Blue Yonder incident is also typical of the attacks that tend to happen around holidays and during weekends, when IT departments tend to be less than fully staffed. Research that Semperis conducted showed that 86% of ransomware victims over the past year were targeted either on a holiday or on a weekend. More than six in 10 respondents in the survey said they experienced a ransomware attack during a corporate event. Semperis found that while most of the organizations in its survey maintained a round-the-clock security operations capability, some 85% scaled back security operations center (SOC) staffing levels by up to 50% outside normal business hours. "Despite widespread cybersecurity efforts, many organizations are unintentionally opening a door to ransomware by reducing their defenses during weekends and holidays," says Jeff Wichman, director of incident response at Semperis. "Attackers clearly expect this behavior and target these periods — as well as other material corporate events that might signal distracted or reduced defenses — to strike. Related: Yakuza Victim Data Leaked in Japanese Agency Attack Wichman says the Semperis study looked at nearly 1,000 organizations in the US, the UK, France, and Germany. In each country, the vast majority of businesses reduce staffing by up to 50% on holidays and weekends. In Germany, 75% of organizations downsized staff by as much as 50% on holidays and weekends. "In security, you can’t wax or wane, and your defenses need to be constant" and around the clock, he says. Wichman recommends that organizations maintain at least 75% of their regular staffing levels on holidays and weekend to maintain operational resiliency. Nick Tausek, lead security automation architect at Swimlane, says incidents like the attack on Blue Yonder highlight why cyber hygiene is important at all times of the year, but especially so during the holiday season: "User training, frequent, comprehensive backups, and a tested disaster recovery plan are the three biggest protections against cybercriminals and ransomware operators during the busy holiday season." It remains to be seen who will and won’t be available when the 49ers embark on a cross-country trip to face the AFC East-leading Bills, currently 9-2 and the No, 2 seed in the conference. The 49ers are expected to get a practice lift with the activation of linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who will begin his 21-day window off injured reserve after offseason Achilles surgery after being injured in the Super Bowl. Cornerback Charvarius Ward, who worked with the scout team last week as he works through his grief following the loss of his 23-month-old daughter, may also begin getting work again with the first team. Are things actually looking up for the 49ers? One thing for sure is that the 49ers are looking up at everybody else in the AFC West but are still only a game out of first place with Seattle and Arizona at 6-5 and the 49ers and Rams at 5-6. It’s clear to Shanahan that any pathway to the playoffs would be as a division title rather than as a wild card, where Washington holds the final spot at 7-5. “You look at the whole NFC picture and if you don’t win the division, 10-7 is not guaranteed to get in as a wild card by any means this year,” Shanahan told reporters during his weekly conference call. “That is why the Seattle game was so tough, and that’s why last night was even worse. “We know exactly what the playoff situation is, but really all that matters is this week when you do need to go on a run and put a lot of wins to even think of that, then you’d better be thinking of only one thing – and that’s Buffalo.” Should Purdy be unable to go, Shanahan said Brandon Allen would get a second start at quarterback after he played Sunday in Green Bay. Safeties Ji’Ayir Brown and Malik Mustapha and middle linebacker Fred Warner played every defensive snap. When Allen at quarterback and Jaylon Moore at left tackle play every snap (along with Colton McKivitz, Dominick Puni and Jake Brendel) then you know there’s a problem with injuries. And Allen and Moore were the least of their problems. Leonard Floyd played 61 percent — about his usual number — even without Nick Bosa in the lineup. With 3 1/2 sacks in his last two games, he’s a half-sack behind Bosa for the team lead. Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall Jr. played 67 percent of the snaps — the same as Deebo Samuel — and did not have a pass thrown his way. Robert Beal Jr. played a season-high number of snaps in Bosa’s absence at defensive end and did not appear on the stat sheet for having a tackle or an assist. Running back Jordan Mason has played 14 snaps in three games since McCaffrey’s return and has six carries for 26 yards. Tashaun Gipson was promoted to the 53-man roster but still hasn’t played on defense in three games at safety. He had four special teams snaps against Green Bay.COLLEGE FB NOTES
FRISCO, Texas — The FCS national championship game will be leaving Frisco and going back to Tennessee after the 2024 season amid Toyota Stadium's multi-year renovation project . This season's FCS championship game will be played on Jan. 6 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, which will host the game for a record 15th season in a row . The FCS playoffs are currently in the quarterfinal round, with the following teams still competing: Montana State, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, South Dakota, UC Davis, Incarnate Ward, Mercer and Idaho. Frisco was set to host the game for at least two more seasons, with an option for a third year. But NCAA officials told the Associated Press Thursday that they had to look at other sites because of the multiyear, $182 million renovation project planned at the 20,500-seat professional soccer stadium, which is slated to begin in 2025. “The upcoming renovations at Toyota Stadium are a necessary step to ensure the long-term viability of the facility,” said FC Dallas Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Smith. “We’re confident the improvements will make the stadium an even better venue for future events. We’re excited to work with the NCAA for the opportunity to bring the championship back to Frisco in 2028 and beyond.” Vanderbilt's campus stadium is in the process of its own multiyear renovation that will be completed by next year. The Commodores played for two seasons during the construction. When South Dakota State beat Montana 23-3 to win its second consecutive FCS title in January, Frisco became the longest-serving host of the game with 14. Chattanooga had hosted the 13 games before that from 1997 to 2009, according to the Associated Press. “We made every effort to keep the event in Frisco by exploring alternative locations within the city. Looking ahead, we aim to secure a long-term extension to host the FCS Championship at Toyota Stadium once renovations are complete,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “We have shown the NCAA we will continue to invest in our infrastructure to optimize the game experience for the FCS Championship. This event was heavily considered in the stadium renovations, underscoring our commitment to offer the best game experience and facility.” The NCAA said the location of the game beyond the 2026 season will be determined in a future bid cycle. “The city of Frisco and Toyota Stadium are incredible partners and have helped grow our championship to an exceptional level the past 15 years,” said Ty Halpin, NCAA director of championships. “Frisco holds a special place in the history of the championship and in the hearts of our institutions and fans. The committee looks forward to seeing the renovations to the stadium in Frisco.” Nashville will be the 11th city to host the FCS championship game, which started in 1978 in Wichita Falls, Texas. The 2025 FCS Championship game will be played Monday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. CST on ESPN. Today is also favorable for exploring new ideas or ventures, as your adaptable nature allows you to thrive in dynamic situations. Be mindful of staying balanced, as your restless energy might lead to overextending yourself. This is a day to harness your curiosity and enthusiasm while staying grounded. Social interactions will be stimulating, and you might even make connections that open doors to exciting possibilities. Trust your instincts, but remember to slow down enough to absorb and process everything. 6 (Those born on the 6th, 15th, or 24th of any month are ruled by the Numerology number 6) Today may bring financial challenges, urging you to reassess your spending habits. Creating a budget or revisiting an existing one will help you navigate this period of discomfort. Your natural inclination toward harmony and balance will make it easier for you to prioritize needs over wants. While financial concerns may loom, this is also an excellent day for introspection and reevaluating what truly matters to you. Luxurious items or indulgences might lose their appeal as you focus on long-term stability. Family and loved ones may seek your guidance or emotional support, and your nurturing nature will shine through as you provide comfort and reassurance. It’s a day to simplify, both financially and emotionally, and to find joy in life’s smaller, more meaningful moments. By addressing these challenges with your characteristic grace, you’ll emerge stronger and more centered, ready to face future opportunities. 7 (Those born on the 7th, 16th, or 25th of any month are ruled by the Numerology number 7) Today, you’re in a lighthearted mood, choosing enjoyment over responsibility. While it’s wonderful to embrace fun and relaxation, there’s a need for balance, as some essential tasks may be neglected. Your intuitive and introspective nature might encourage you to explore creative hobbies or spiritual practices, providing a fulfilling sense of joy. However, be mindful of commitments, especially in professional or business settings. Missing important appointments could lead to avoidable complications later on. The day’s energy is perfect for reconnecting with friends or indulging in leisurely activities, but it’s equally important to address any pressing responsibilities. Embrace this cheerful energy, but remind yourself to stay grounded and organized. A little focus amidst the merriment can help you make the most of this day without sacrificing productivity. Balance is key, allowing you to enjoy the moment while maintaining control of your obligations. 8 (Those born on the 8th, 17th, or 26th of any month are ruled by the Numerology number 8) You may feel a strong sense of frustration or restlessness today, especially concerning situations that seem beyond your control. This internal tension stems from your desire to see tangible results, yet external circumstances may feel stagnant. It’s essential to practice patience and avoid venting your frustrations on others, as this could lead to unnecessary conflicts. Use this time to reflect on long-term goals and strategies rather than focusing on immediate outcomes. Meditation or quiet introspection can help channel this energy constructively. Remember that persistence is your strength, and while today may feel slow, your efforts will yield results in due course. Instead of forcing solutions, allow things to unfold naturally. By staying composed and focusing on inner growth, you can transform today’s challenges into a stepping stone for future success. Trust that time will provide clarity and resolution. 9 (Those born on the 9th, 18th, or 27th of any month are ruled by the Numerology number 9) Today is a day of heightened emotions and intense energy, which can push you to react strongly to situations. While your passion and drive are admirable, it’s important to temper them with balance and rationality. Avoid overreacting or letting your emotions cloud your judgment, as this could lead to unnecessary conflicts. Channel this powerful energy into creative or altruistic endeavors—your natural compassion and leadership skills can inspire and uplift others. This is also a good day to focus on resolving lingering issues, but approach them with a calm and open mind. Take care to practice self-care, as the day’s intensity may leave you feeling drained if not managed properly. By maintaining emotional equilibrium, you’ll be able to make sound decisions and positively impact those around you. Trust your instincts, but ensure they’re guided by clarity and perspective, not impulsive emotions. (AP) — That buzzing coming out of New Jersey? It's unclear if it's drones or something else, but for sure the nighttime sightings are producing tons of talk, a raft of conspiracy theories and craned necks looking skyward. Cropping up on local news and social media sites around Thanksgiving, the saga of the drones reported over New Jersey has reached incredible heights. This week seems to have begun a new, higher-profile chapter: Lawmakers are demanding (but so far not getting) explanations from federal and state authorities about what's behind them. Gov. Phil Murphy wrote to President Joe Biden asking for answers. New Jersey's new senator, Andy Kim, spent Thursday night on a drone hunt in rural northern New Jersey, and posted about it on X. But perhaps the most fantastic development is the dizzying proliferation of conspiracies — none of which has been confirmed or suggested by federal and state officials who say they're looking into what's happening. It has become shorthand to refer to the flying machines as drones, but there are questions about whether what people are seeing are unmanned aircraft or something else. Some theorize the drones came from an Iranian mothership. Others think they are the Secret Service making sure President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster property is secure. Others worry about China. The deep state. And on. In the face of uncertainty, people have done what they do in 2024: Create a social media group. The Facebook page, New Jersey Mystery Drones — let’s solve it , has nearly 44,000 members, up from 39,000 late Thursday. People are posting their photo and video sightings, and the online commenters take it from there. One video shows a whitish light flying in a darkened sky, and one commenter concludes it’s otherworldly. “Straight up orbs,” the person says. Others weigh in to say it’s a plane or maybe a satellite. Another group called for hunting the drones literally, shooting them down like turkeys. (Do not shoot at anything in the sky, experts warn.) Trisha Bushey, 48, of Lebanon Township, New Jersey, lives near Round Valley Reservoir where there have been numerous sightings. She said she first posted photos online last month wondering what the objects were and became convinced they were drones when she saw how they moved and when her son showed her on a flight tracking site that no planes were around. Now she's glued to the Mystery Drones page, she said. “I find myself — instead of Christmas shopping or cleaning my house — checking it,” she said. She doesn't buy what the governor said, that the drones aren't a risk to public safety. Murphy told Biden on Friday that residents need answers. The federal Homeland Security Department and FBI also said in a joint statement they have no evidence that the sightings pose “a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus.” “How can you say it’s not posing a threat if you don’t know what it is?” she said. “I think that’s why so many people are uneasy.” Then there's the notion that people could misunderstand what they're seeing. William Austin is the president of Warren County Community College, which has a drone technology degree program, and is coincidentally located in one of the sighting hotspots. Austin says he has looked at videos of purported drones and that airplanes are being misidentified as drones. He cited an optical effect called parallax, which is the apparent shift of an object when viewed from different perspectives. Austin encouraged people to download flight and drone tracker apps so they can better understand what they're looking at. Nonetheless, people continue to come up with their own theories. “It represents the United States of America in 2024,” Austin said. “We’ve lost trust in our institutions, and we need it.” Federal officials echo Austin's view that many of the sightings are piloted aircraft such as planes and helicopters being mistaken for drones, according to lawmakers and Murphy. That's not really convincing for many, though, who are homing in on the sightings beyond just New Jersey and the East Coast, where others have reported seeing the objects. For Seph Divine, 34, another member of the drone hunting group who lives in Eugene, Oregon, it feels as if it’s up to citizen sleuths to solve the mystery. He said he tries to be a voice of reason, encouraging people to fact check their information, while also asking probing questions. “My main goal is I don’t want people to be caught up in the hysteria and I also want people to not just ignore it at the same time,” he said. “Whether or not it’s foreign military or some secret access program or something otherworldly, whatever it is, all I’m saying is it’s alarming that this is happening so suddenly and so consistently for hours at a time,” he added. LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Tyrese Hunter scored 17 of his 26 points after halftime to lead Memphis to a 99-97 overtime win against two-time defending national champion and second-ranked UConn on Monday in the first round of the Maui Invitational . Hunter shot 7 of 10 from 3-point range for the Tigers (5-0), who were 12 of 22 from beyond at the arc as a team. PJ Haggerty had 22 points and five assists, Colby Rogers had 19 points and Dain Dainja scored 14. Tarris Reed Jr. had 22 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the Huskies (4-1). Alex Karaban had 19 points and six assists, and Jaylin Stewart scored 16. Memphis led by as many as 13 with about four minutes left in regulation, but UConn chipped away and eventually tied it on Solo Ball’s 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining. Memphis: The Tigers ranked second nationally in field goal percentage going into the game and shot it at a 54.7% clip. UConn: The Huskies saw their string of 17 consecutive wins dating back to February come to an end. The teams were tied at 92 with less than a minute remaining in overtime when UConn coach Dan Hurley was assessed a technical foul for his displeasure with an over-the-back call against Liam McNeeley. PJ Carter hit four straight free throws — two for the tech and the other pair for the personal foul — to give Memphis a 96-92 lead with 40.3 seconds to play. UConn had three players foul out. Memphis attempted 40 free throws and made 29 of them. Memphis will play the winner of Colorado-Michigan State on Tuesday in the second round of the invitational. UConn will play the loser of that game in the consolation bracket. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . More than half of the job gains in the Bay Area were produced by the East Bay as the tech-heavy South Bay and San Francisco metro region lagged by a wide margin, according to a report from the state’s labor agency. The Bay Area added 3,000 jobs in November — but the East Bay accounted for 1,900 of those employment additions, the report from the state Employment Development Department showed. The South Bay’s job totals were unchanged while the San Francisco-San Mateo region managed to add just 600 jobs last month, the EDD reported. California added 11,100 jobs in November and the statewide unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.4%. California has one of the highest jobless rates in the nation. All of the numbers were adjusted for seasonal volatility. Despite the employment gains in the state, this news organization’s assessment of the EDD figures hints at a deterioration of the California job market. During the most recent four months from August through November, California averaged a gain of 7,900 jobs a month — but during the prior eight months, from December 2023 through July 2024, the statewide job gains averaged 22,100 a month. In the Bay Area, the pattern was reversed. In the most recent four months, the Bay Area averaged gains of 2,500 a month, while during the eight months before, the average gain was 1,400 a month.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Walmart’s Mexico subsidiary said Friday it plans to appeal a $4.6 million fine for alleged anti-competitive practices involving suppliers. Walmart de Mexico said in a statement that it had talked with suppliers to see if there were any concerns. The agency that issued the fine, known as the Federal Competition Commission, expressed concerns about a “relative monopolistic practice.” The commission, Mexico's main anti-monopoly regulatory agency, is one of several independent agencies soon to be eliminated as part of what the government describes as a money-saving measure. It apparently levied the fine after at least one rival store chain accused Walmart of using its substantial purchasing power to gain discounts that put other sellers at a disadvantage. Walmart is by far the largest retail chain in Mexico. It called the decision “incorrect” and said it contained “errors in applying the law.” The company said it would abide by the agency’s ruling Thursday, but would appeal the decision. Walmart's shares rose about 7.5% on the Mexican stock exchange Friday.By DARLENE SUPERVILLE WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he is “so proud” that a women’s health research initiative he launched last year at his wife’s urging has already invested nearly $1 billion because a healthy female population improves U.S. prosperity. “That’s a fact,” he said in closing remarks at the first White House Conference on Women’s Health Research. “We haven’t gotten that through to the other team yet,” Biden said, referencing President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming administration. Trump’s three conservative nominees to the Supreme Court from his first term as president voted to overturn a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion . Democrats campaigned on reproductive rights and women’s health issues in this year’s elections. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team, said the president-elect will keep his promise to improve health in the U.S. “President Trump campaigned on making America healthy again for ALL Americans including men, women, and children, and he will deliver on that promise,” Leavitt said in an email. Women make up half of the U.S. population, about 168 million people, but medical research into their unique health circumstances has largely been underfunded and understudied, officials have said. Jill Biden has said she brought the idea for the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research to the president after Maria Shriver, herself a women’s health advocate and member of the influential Kennedy political family, brought it to her. The first lady told the researchers, advocates, and business and philanthropic leaders attending the conference that she will keep pressing the issue after she leaves her role. “My work doesn’t stop in January when Joe and I leave this house,” she said. “I will keep building alliances, like the ones that brought us here today, and I will keep pushing for funding for innovative research.” The first lady said the U.S. economy loses about $1.8 billion in working time every year because of how menopause affects women. And she is interested in learning more about extreme morning sickness during pregnancy. “I heard this a couple weeks ago and I was particularly interested because my own granddaughter was going through the same thing, ’cause we’re going to be great-grandparents,” Jill Biden said.
