The University of North Carolina has agreed to pay $10 million a year, according to a term sheet the university released Thursday afternoon. While the agreement is for five years, only the first three years’ pay is guaranteed in case Belichick is fired without cause. The annual pay figure is double what North Carolina had been paying recently fired coach Mack Brown. It would make Belichick the sixth-highest paid college football coach at a public school for the 2025 football season, and contracts obtained through open-records requests. Among coaches at public schools, Belichick will trail Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Texas' Steve Sarkisian, Florida State's Mike Norvell and Alabama's Kalen DeBoer. Southern California’s Lincoln Riley was paid $10,043,418 during the 2022 calendar year, according to the university’s most recently available tax records – the only documents available because USC is a private school. Belichick’s deal also provides him with a $100,000 expense annual expense account and the possibility of getting $3.5 million a year in bonuses. Among the bonuses, a total of $250,000 looks to be routinely attainable: $150,000 for the team playing in a non-CFP bowl game, which generally requires a record of at least 6-6 (UNC's record this season), and $100,000 for the team having a single-year NCAA Academic Progress Rate figure of 950 to 969 (the team has exceeded 950 in each of the past three years). In addition, the term sheet says North Carolina will provide: --$10 million as an "assistant coach salary pool." (This season, UNC is paying nearly according to information obtained from the school by USA TODAY Sports. The NCAA Division I Council this past summer eliminated its 10-person limit on the number on-field assistant coaches at schools other than service academies.) --$1 million for strength and conditioning staff. --$5.3 million for support staff, including funding for a new general manager position with pay "not to exceed $1.5 million." During a news conference Thursday, Belichick said that role will be taken by Mike Lombardi, a former NFL executive. is due to make $825,000 next season. --$13 million as what the term sheet called "revenue sharing.” This is presumably a figure that represents the total amount of money the university plans to pay to football players as consideration for the use of their name, image and likeness if a federal judge grants final approval in April to the proposed settlement of antitrust lawsuits against the NCAA and the Power Five conferences. So far, North Carolina is the first school to publicly disclose as part of a coach's employment terms the amount it intends to provide football players for their NIL rights. Under the settement's terms, schools are expected to be allowed to pay their athletes, across all sports, $20 million to $23 million for their NIL rights. How families can keep the 'happy' in the holidays by avoiding stress and upheaval

Municipalities have for years been calling for updated codes of conduct to address workplace harassment, as well as stricter penalties for those who violate the rules, including removal from office. Municipal Affairs Minister Paul Calandra introduced a bill today that would allow for the creation of a standard code of conduct for all municipalities and penalties of removing and disqualifying a member from office if they are in serious violation of the code. The government says that removal and disqualification could only happen if the municipal integrity commissioner recommends it, if Ontario’s integrity commissioner agrees and if councillors except for the member in question unanimously agree to it in a vote. Calandra also introduced a Peel Transition Implementation Act, to transfer some services currently handled by Peel Region to its three municipalities of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. That comes after Ontario reversed course on a plan to dissolve the regional government, instead promising to find efficiencies in its management.Percentages: FG .596, FT .833. 3-Point Goals: 10-23, .435 (Kopp 4-7, Nyeri 3-5, Petty 2-3, Ammons 1-3, Grady 0-2, Hall 0-3). ST. LOUIS (AP) — Fourteen North Korean nationals have been indicted in a scheme using information technology workers with false identities to contract with U.S. companies — workers who then funneled their wages to North Korea for development of ballistic missiles and other weapons, the head of the FBI office in St. Louis said Thursday. The scheme involving thousands of IT workers generated more than $88 million for the North Korean government, Ashley T. Johnson, special agent in charge of the St. Louis FBI office, said at a news conference. In addition to their wages, the workers stole sensitive information from companies or threatened to leak information in exchange for extortion payments, Johnson said. Victims included defrauded companies and people whose identities were stolen from across the U.S., including Missouri, Johnson said. The indictments were filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. All 14 people face wire fraud, money laundering, identity theft and other charges. Most of those accused are believed to be in North Korea. Johnson acknowledged that bringing them to justice will be difficult. To help, the U.S. Department of State is offering a $5 million reward for information leading to any of the suspects. RELATED COVERAGE Taiwan’s leader calls on China to refrain from threats ahead of expected military drills Who is the South Korean president who imposed martial law? California man charged with shipping weapons to North Korea Federal authorities said the scheme worked like this: North Korea dispatched thousands of IT workers to get hired and work remotely or as freelancers for U.S. companies. The IT workers involved in the scheme sometimes used stolen identities. In other instances, they paid Americans to use their home Wi-Fi connections, or to pose in on-camera job interviews as the IT workers. Johnson said the FBI is going after those “domestic enablers,” too. “This is just the tip of the iceberg,” Johnson said. “If your company has hired fully remote IT workers, more likely than not, you have hired or at least interviewed a North Korean national working on behalf of the North Korean government,” Johnson said. The Justice Department in recent years has sought to expose and disrupt a broad variety of criminal schemes aimed at bolstering the North Korean regime, including its nuclear weapons program. In 2021, the Justice Department charged three North Korean computer programmers and members of the government’s military intelligence agency in a broad range of global hacks that officials say were carried out at the behest of the regime. Law enforcement officials said at the time that the prosecution highlighted the profit-driven motive behind North Korea’s criminal hacking, a contrast from other adversarial nations like Russia, China and Iran that are generally more interested in espionage, intellectual property theft or even disrupting democracy. In May 2022, the State Department, Department of the Treasury, and the FBI issued an advisory warning of attempts by North Koreans “to obtain employment while posing as non-North Korean nationals.” The advisory noted that in recent years, the regime of Kim Jong Un “has placed increased focus on education and training” in IT-related subjects. In October 2023 , the FBI in St. Louis announced the seizure of $1.5 million and 17 domain names as part of the investigation. The indictments announced Tuesday were the first stemming from the investigation. Johnson urged companies to thoroughly vet IT workers hired to work remotely. “One of the ways to help minimize your risk is to insist current and future IT workers appear on camera as often as possible if they are fully remote,” she said. Officials didn’t name the companies that unknowingly hired North Korean workers.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has defended his decision to approve a private airstrip amid rising concerns and allegations of preferential treatment. Keyamo said this on the ‘This Morning’ programme on Arise News on Sunday. Where he stressed the importance of fairness and adherence to legal processes in granting approvals for private airstrips across Nigeria. “You can’t single out an individual in a country like this when you have given the same right to so many people and say withdraw that particular one. On what basis?” Keyamo asked. “The people have not breached any terms upon which we gave them the license. If you single them out, the constitution says you should not discriminate against any Nigerian. They are following the rules.” Keyamo explained that the approval process for the airstrip was rigorous and took over a year to complete. “It took me one year to approve that airstrip because we went through so many processes. By law, I said the minister would approve. That is what the law says. And it came to me. I looked at all the processes. I approved,” he said. That is why we must be careful not to see this as an attack on the church. Once they have fulfilled the obligations, why not?” he questioned. Keyamo also addressed security concerns, assuring Nigerians that stringent measures are in place for private airstrips. He noted that no private aircraft can depart directly from an airstrip to an international destination without undergoing thorough checks at a designated airport. “You cannot take off from any private airstrip in Nigeria and fly outside the country. This is not possible. You must first land at an international airport. You will be well-processed and checked before you fly out. If you are flying in, you must first land at an international airport. You will be processed before you fly to your private airstrip,” he explained. Recall that this is following the House of Rep’s instruction to the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace to stop the issuance of airstrip licenses to private individuals and organisations. They also called for the withdrawal of licenses already granted to Living Faith Church, as well as to other private individuals and organisations, to safeguard national security.AFP – South Korea’s main opposition party said yesterday it will try again to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol after his declaration of martial law. Meanwhile police arrested the defence minister in charge of the martial law operation, and the interior minister resigned. Both they and Yoon are being investigated for alleged insurrection. Yoon averted impeachment late Saturday as huge crowds braved freezing temperatures in another night of protests outside Parliament to demand the president’s ouster. Opposition parties proposed the impeachment motion, which needed 200 votes in the 300-member Parliament to pass, but a near-total boycott by Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) doomed it to failure. Leader of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) Lee Jae Myung said yesterday that they will try again on December 14. “Yoon, the principal culprit behind the insurrection and military coup that destroyed South Korea’s constitutional order, must either resign immediately or be impeached without delay,” Lee told reporters. “On December 14, our Democratic Party will impeach Yoon in the name of the people.” SOFT COUP In exchange for blocking his removal from office, Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) said that it had “effectively obtained (Yoon’s) promise to step down”. “Even before the president steps down, he will not interfere in state affairs, including foreign affairs,” PPP leader Han Dong-hoon said yesterday after a meeting with Prime Minister Han Duck Soo. This will “minimise the confusion to South Korea and its people, stably resolve the political situation and recover liberal democracy”, Han told reporters. But Lee and the National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, both from the opposition Democratic Party (DP), yesterday called the arrangement illegal. “For the prime minister and the ruling party to jointly exercise presidential authority, which no one has granted them, without participating in constitutional processes to address unconstitutional martial law, is a clear violation of the Constitution,” Woo said.Skier/snowboarder Ester Ledecka has 2 Olympic races on same day in 2026, hoping for schedule change
